Next time, I am coming hungry!

I'm gonna keep this simple. In a twist of fate...... I have discovered that My NEW Favorite coffee shop on the beautiful Island of Kauai is..... Drum Roll Please..... MELROSE!!!!!!! That's it. That's my Review. What do you think? Gotcha! Alright, here's how it went down. During our most recent trip to Kauai, we went to our favorite little local breakfast spot in Lihue, known as Tip Top. Fun Fact #1: Tip Top has been around for over 100 years (yeah! It was Established in 1916). Fun Fact #2: Hawai'i didn't even become a state until 1959. Crazy right! Anywho... that morning we drove into Lihue and pulled into the Tip Top parking lot just like we do every trip to Kauai. But this visit, as we approached the front door, there was a sign posted at the entrance saying something along the lines of: "Sorry, No coffee today". Now I don't know about you, but you don't wanna see me without my morning brew. Of course, this didn't detour us from having a delicious breakfast at our favorite little hole on the wall. (Check out Tip Top if you want to eat with the locals) So as soon as breakfast was over, we got back in the rental car and went on Yelp to find us a place to get coffee. And after my wife scrolled for a few minutes looking at the different coffee shops nearby, she suddenly exclaimed: "oh this place looks cute!" In my head, my exact thought was ... "cute?". I don't want cute! I want caffeine, Lots of caffeine! But I was desperate. I didn't care if the place was cute or not, I just wanted coffee Stat! The drive from Tip Top was less than 2 minutes before we pulled into the Parking lot of Melrose. Initial impression: is this place even open? There were windows, but they were all covered and you couldn't see inside. Me: Oh great, it looks closed. Are we gonna have to settle for McDonalds coffee across the street? My wife: Just go check. Yelp says they're open. So I walk up, anxiously hoping for the best and..... To my surprise, they were open. Ok, this is where it went from good to GREAT! We walked in and my first thought (fellas don't judge) (ladies, I finally get it) The place was soooo CUTE!!! Haha Yeah, it was 1/2 Boutique (apparel, accessories, gifting) And 1/2 coffee shop/café. And of course, beautiful roses throughout. The 2 young ladies behind the counter were so sweet, kind and made us feel so welcomed. While looking at coffee menu to see what we wanted, we were offered a sample of their collagen melon milk frozen concoction. Ho. Lee. Crap. This stuff was ridiculously delicious, so you know we had to get ourselves a full size one for the kids to share. In addition we got a Miss Melrose (iced) and a Mocha Melrose (hot) for my mother-in-law waiting in the car with the kids. All drinks were out of this world and definitely made with love! Speaking of Love... Their straws are pink and are HEART SHAPED!!! Yeah, this place didn't leave any detail out. Everything from the product they sell (the coffee and merchandise in the boutique), the whole vibe this space gives off, and of course the kind hearted staff they employ here... Melrose, you deserve every star I'm giving you! It was too bad we had just come from breakfast, otherwise we totally would have eaten here because everything looked/sounded so good from their bakery menu. We liked it so much, we decided to stop in a few days later when we were passing through Lihue and realized this time, they were actually closed (closed on Sundays). Thankfully for us, Kauai is our home away from home in our hearts and we have been so blessed to be able to come back so often and share this special place with our kids. Melrose know this... We will 1000% be coming back and know that every person I talk to that's going to Kauai, I will pass on the good word about your shop. I wish you nothing, but success until me see you again. Mahalo!

We stopped by Melrose on the last day of our trip to Kauai and it was a lovely way to end off the vacation! The shop is so cute and feels like something straight out of LA. We got the Hawaiian tropical and Mr. Melrose drinks and both were lovely (and very pretty), but the standout for me was the brown butter chocolate chip cookie -- it was heavenly!

Coffee? So good. The decor? So pretty. The barista? So nice. I have zero negative things to say about my experience at this coffee shop!! They have good drinks with fun fall specials. It shares space with a small boutique I think. There's some parking too! Not a hard place to get to. If I lived here I'd visit all the time!

Ordered the Melrose Matcha and the coconut oatmeal cookie. Both were so delicious, I wish I could get the cookie recipe! The Matcha reminded me of a butter pecan ice cream.

Melrose is the perfect spot to have a treat and a matcha with your girlfriends! The cutest little place to enjoy. The outdoor seating is ideal and has a nice ambiance. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie is my absolute favorite. All of the girls working there are always delightful and helpful. I will always take friends here when they are in town visiting, just love it. There is parking in front that is easily accessible.

Woah! This drink is one of the best! If you are in Kauai, this is a must stop! I had the Melrose Mocha. I'm a Texas Starbucks freako and this totally tops that!

This place is a lot located in what used to be. I believe a former gas station. The transformation is absolutely incredible and it is even more breathtaking as soon as you walk inside. It definitely looks like something out of Europe, more Italian type of environment with the decor and all of the flowers both fresh as well as dried for decorative purposes The menu is incredible so please be sure to read through it and take your time and the staff is super friendly and patient with you There are also lots of ready to purchase that you can take home and cook at home such as sauces and pastas There are also a limited amount of baked goods available as well and they also sell some accessories, house, decor, etc. This is a must visit, not only because everything taste good but everything looks fantastic!!!

I have driven past this place a few times while visiting the island. I'm so glad that we decided to stop by for breakfast this time around. Such a cute place. Service was quick and friendly. Drink & the chocolate croissant were yummy! I'll definitely be back!

Really good coffee drinks. The place looks like it was transplanted straight from Los Angeles. Cute little shop with yummy food. We had the Miss Melrose, Matcha Latte and Hawaiian Tropic and all were excellent. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie they heat up and is delicious. We also enjoyed the pepperoni on focaccia. The service is great too.

Such an amazing spot. The ambiance is the best! They have the cutest decor. Their pastries are to die for! The cookies and the cinnamon roll were so flavorful. They warmed the cinnamon roll for us and the cream cheese topping just melted in the mouth. The staff were extremely friendly and made recommendations for our drinks explaining the differences and options. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is I've tried the matcha recommendations on 2 separate occasions and I was not impressed. It lacked something, almost as if it was watery. The hint of cookie was a nice touch but could have been alittle stronger. I was bummed as I love me a good matcha. The Mr. Dubai coffee drink on the other hand was bold and delicious. And the melrose milk was also another good try. I'm usually a matcha person, but Maybe I will have to try something other than matcha next time.

We enjoyed our coffees this morning and thank you for the tip on what beach to go to!

For this visit , I Got 2 large coffees ($5.50) and the Jalapeño bagel egg sandwich with bacon cheddar spread ($14.) . Wow- super yummy, the bagel was fresh-baked in house, perfect chew with a nice jalapeño kick, egg fluffy and bacon + cheddar spread melted just right. I am not a fan of bagel since the ones I had were hard to chew but this one hits different. Coffee was strong and hot, perfect Kauai morning fuel. Opens at 6AM, The lines are long but they move, worth the wait. Charming little bakery with fresh ocean views when you exit the shop, true family-owned vibe, super friendly hard working staff. You can tell everything is made from scratch -- they're famous for the fresh-baked bagels and banana pudding for a reason. The cinnamon rolls are huge with pecans, looks so tempting but I had to limit my sweets & carbs. "The Banana definitely is Jammin here", at The Jammin Bakery & Cafe , I can't wait to be back!!

Kind of odd to be charged per piece but I guess than means someone can order 10 and know their price. Food came out quickly even though it was busy. We found a nice small table to sit at. M y wife ordered the Acai bowl. When they say banana base, they mean the yogurt flavor. No actual real sliced fruit in th bowl. Seems kind of odd for an Acai bowl to be 70% granola with yogurt and nutella on top. Prices are still high even if not as high as the hotels.

The ice cream, thankfully, was worth crossing state lines for. My kids predictably ordered something bright blue - Cookie Monster and another flavor that could only have been invented by either a six-year-old or a marketing genius. Whoever came up with those flavors is probably laughing all the way to the bank. I went with mint chocolate chip and toasted coconut topped with hot fudge, and it was absolutely fantastic. Rich, creamy, and exactly what vacation ice cream should be. The only reason this isn't five stars was the service. Let's just say the welcome felt a little more "Who sent you?" than "Aloha." Maybe we accidentally wandered into a locals-only witness protection program. Hard to say. Still, the ice cream was so good I'd happily endure another soul-piercing stare for a second scoop.

It's incredible and the most delicious homemade Filipino bun ever! My kids were also incredulous of how wonderful it tasted. During this visit we also tried the chicken adobo (better than my Filipino mom's version and better than the way I prepare it!) Wow, again best ever chicken adobo dish! My hubby got the breakfast plate that had sausages and rice. He loved it. Also got the chicken tinola and pork adobo on a second visit and more pan de sal! The shopkeepers are so nice and friendly. It's a pleasure supporting this local small business. It will definitely be a place we'll return to over and over again during future visit to Kauai! Highly recommend! There were many locals who came too! The lovely owner grandma said they've changed the name of the restaurant, because she's handed it down to her son and he'll run the business. I should've got a dozen. This place is a small Filipino bakery and turo-turo joint on Rice Street in Lihue in between Rob's Good Times Grill and the bowling alley. The Tita that helped us was friendly and I was going to get a bag of their homemade chicharon but decided against it. She laughed when I changed my mind. They have some vegetables for sale scattered about the small retail space out front. But the main draw is their baked goods and their hot food to-go. I saw everything from biko (sticky rice dessert), musubis, empanadas, suman (sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf) for baked and packaged goods. Then they had pancit, dinuguan, fried fish and pork adobo. There were several other offerings that I cannot recall. Pan de sal was 3 for $1 or a dozen for $4. Gotta get the dozen. Parking is in the share lot right out front or street parking along Rice if the plaza is packed.
