They cater to groups too. I was with a party of about fifteen and sat in a separate group space. I wanted to thank Christina for serving all of us. It's not easy for one server to manage a large group. Well done. The majority of my group ordered pizzas. They came out hot and fresh. My pizza is a half-and-half gluten free pie. That's what they did well. I understand Mellow Mushroom is a chain restaurant, but it's consistently amazing. This location is also great with making sure food is ready on time for pickup orders. I placed my order via their website for an hour ahead of time for curbside pickup. I ordered pretzel bites and a large half & half pie. The pretzel bites are absolutely necessary to have at Mellow. They are light and fluffy. The half & half pie is my favorite way to have pizza here because you basically try two different pizzas for the price of one. Mellow Mushroom is celebrating 50 years so I wanted to try their new anniversary flavors - Super Pepp and The Marley. Super Pepp was a great mixture of pepperoni & and honey. I loved the pesto base from The Marley. The dough from the pizza (and pretzel bites) is absolutely perfect. I could eat it everyday. As always, my order was ready on time and still hot when I got home. The portions were a good amount as this was two nights of dinner for my husband and I. We were seated right away on a busy Saturday night. Our server Michelle, was attentive and suggested we get half House pizza and half Holy Shiitake to satisfying both of our palates. I didn't realize that she as even aware! We ordered the naked wings with Thai chili on the side. Man- those were nicely seasoned and didn't need sauce in my opinion. We ordered the medium which was 8 nice sized slices of a 16" pizza. It was hard to find the cheese at all and since steak, cheese and mayo was all I got on the sub, I expected to be able to see the cheese. A steak and cheese is just not good without the cheese. I'm definitely a fan of Mellow Mushroom, having visited several locations over the years and being a regular customer when I lived in Durham. I've ordered takeout from the Burlington location a few times but last night was my first time dining in. For a busy Friday night, our party was still greeted very warmly by the hosts and taken to one of the few remaining available booths. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, bringing refills before we had to ask. Each Mellow Mushroom is different inside, though still eclectic. I love the quirkiness. The Burlington location is one big open space with a bar in the middle and booths and tables surrounding - it can be a little tricky walking amongst the tables to get to a booth and understandably it was a bit loud given the crowd. I ordered the small house salad with their signature esperanza dressing and a small holy shiitake pie. The salad was fresh and had plenty of parmesan shavings on top. The esperanza dressing reminds me of a cross between caesar and italian - I can't get enough of the stuff. The Holy Shiitake pie consists of several types of mushrooms on a garlic base with caramelized onions and three types of cheese. I've had mushroom pizzas from other restaurants and Mellow Mushroom's continues to be my favorite. I also really like their dough and it was just right this time - perfectly chewy with a little crunch. I'm looking forward to my leftovers! This location offers a lunch buffet during the week and it's a great deal - all you can eat pizza and salad. I have missed the buffet in Chapel Hill since the closing of that location so I definitely plan on hitting up Burlington's buffet soon. read more

But last night I got a wild hair and decided that this would be a great choice for dinner. I am so glad we did. We had really great service and an amazing pizza. It's been a long time since I've been here but when #SuperHubs mentioned it, I knew it was time to go back. I am so glad we did! Upon entrance, we were greeted warmly & immediately, led to a table, and given menus. No waiting. That was my favorite part. Our waitress got our drink orders instantly and we were sippin' on them within 3 minutes of entering the place. As usual, I observed the decor and cleanliness. The decor hadn't changed since the last time we'd been there but, hey, who really has time for all that? The place was spotlessly clean, smelled like pizza dough and sanitizer. Sadly, I'm writing a negative review. We chose Mellow Mushroom because we love the chain and the food. We asked for outdoor seating out of consideration for other guests ( my husband was on day 6 of Covid and did not want to risk getting anyone sick). We were told a 25 minute wait, which was fine on a busy Friday night at 7:20. We were happy to be seated ahead of schedule and encouraged when our server appeared right away. Sadly, it went downhill from there. We didn't see our server for 25 minutes, so we flagged another server because my husband wanted another beer. 45 minutes after ordering food and zero service or apology for lack thereof, I stopped the manager (Barbie) on my way back from the bathroom. I asked if there was any chance we would receive our food soon since it had been over 45 minutes since we ordered. Her answer? " we are not a fast food restaurant. You can expect an hour. ". Whaaat??? I was taken aback because this is not a high end restaurant. I am a mystery shopper for 5 star steakhouses that would be appalled if it took longer than 15 minutes to receive an entree. This is a pizza place! The server was not at all interested in giving us good service, and it's no wonder when the manager's attitude was as it was. The table beside us complained and was given coupons by their apologetic server. This is clearly a regular occurrence. It's a shame because the food was very good. That said, the service was not, and this is a very poorly managed restaurant. Pretty sure it was because we were seated outside. Each table had a different server, so it seems the outdoor tables were not part of anyone's section. The food was good, but we spent over two hours at a pizza restaurant, and none of the staff cared. Walked in, waiter took us to a table quickly. Service came and took our drinks, got them really quickly! So far everything was quick and restaurant was clean. Food was pretty quick to come and was AMAZING!!! Pizza is great, wings are good, everything was good. They also have an Icee Machine and a pineapple mocktail. Very pleasant dining experience today. Our waitress was very good very attentive. We ordered some pretzel bites and we had two children to order the meatballs off the kids menu. And three adults ordered a large house pizza. What I found out was that the pizza stay hot until the final bite is very pleasing.
