Really disappointed tonight in Melitos. We haven't been there in at least three months. My wife and I have been going there for at least 17 years. Tonight she orders the chicken teriyaki salad. It's a really big salad and comes with a small side of dressing. She asked for an additional dressing and is told it will be an additional charge. We blow it off and say okay whatever. I order the NY strip and get two sides. I chose the Brussels and sweet potato fries. Once again the waitress says that the sweet potato fries are also an additional charge. Seriously? Why? They ended up being basic frozen sweet potato fries you can get from any grocery store. There are way too many options now in the Richmond west end. To top it all off our waitress acted like she could care less about us. Maybe we will try again in 3 months. read more

Melitos is one of our favorite casual neighborhood restaurant in the West End. Recently they changed their menu, raised their prices and added a few new items. But the quality and freshness of their meals remains reliable and tasty. Our only complaint is the service. Due to high volume on a typical evening, staff are constantly circulating and asking diners if they're finished eating or need anything else. On our latest visit on a Wednesday evening, our entire dining experience lasted less than 45 minutes. We skipped dessert and chose to finish our meal in a more relaxing environment without someone constantly interrupting and asking us if we needed anything else. read more

So when someone says, "We serve the best dogs in the world"... as a hot dog connoisseur I have to try it out. Of course I'm thinking...hot dogs...who can go wrong with that although I do like mine to have a little crispiness to it. This place did not bring on the crispiness like I like it so I give it an A-ok rating. I'm a relish fan, but felt it was relished a bit too much on a such a small dog that it made the dog taste a little sour. Nonetheless I enjoyed it and will return again. Great place for a business lunch. It gets busy around noon, but have never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. GREAT Caesar with Salmon! They roast turkey every day? Yum! Really disappointed tonight. We had not been here in several months. I ordered the appetizer stuffed Portobello mushrooms which on the menu said came with two Portobello mushrooms and two sides. Mine came with one and when I asked about it they said it depends on the size of the mushroom we give you???? Your menu said two. Melito's you let me down! Let me first first say I went there to meet a an old friend to catch up. So time and food wasn't high on my list. So you did have that going for you!! But wow! It was truly a bad experience. It was crazy busy and took almost 25 minutes to get our first drinks after already waiting for someone to greet us at our table after 15 minutes. I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon. I do wish I took a picture. I'm sure you would be embarrassed. I ended up with a bowl of chopped iceberg lettuce. Didn't see any Parmesan cheese at first but when I tossed it, I saw a few pieces of cheese. No croutons. It did have the extra dressing I asked for. The salmon was way over cooked but edible. I was hungry so I ate it. My friend ordered a side salad and I ordered French onion soup and asked to send out first. Neither came to the table. Our entrees arrived and we told her we didn't get our salad and soup. She then asked if we still wanted them. We said yes. It came to us in about 15 minutes. The soup was not something I'd ever order again. Water. No cheese. Or bread for a French onion soup. Just a broth with onion in it and a bowl of oyster crackers on the side. I did ask her about my salad and why it was just lettuce and she was sorry and said they ran out of lettuce and croutons. It seemed she was maybe inexperienced in customer service or waiting tables. We were super nice and understanding. . Drinks were hard to come by. We moved to the bar to have another drink and the bartender was so very friendly. Paid the bill in full and gave a good tip even though not deserved due to our experience. Y'all are close to where I live and could be a place to return in the future for dinner and drinks but unfortunately I won't be returning. read more

Went in for the first time after seeing it for years...best decision I have made. Started with the crab dip which was so good and the pretzel. Dark wood decor, crowded space (not necessarily bad, but get a booth if you have kids). Food is quintessential Richmond. That means it is bland. And Richmonders love it. The chili actually has some flavor. Cool Daddy sandwich is a neat twist on a ham sandwich. Fish sandwich is good. Salads, overpriced hot dogs, bar food, etc. Homemade potato chips appetizer is very tasty. Hummus actually ok. Desserts brought in from some good local places like Gelati Celesti ice cream. Good local beer specials during happy hour and mixed drink specials. The young women who are waitresses have started dressing a bit more appropriately as of late which is nice. We went to the restaurant on a weekday around 6pm. We had a sleeping baby in a car seat and 3 adults. One of them was a larger gentlemen (6'6) who could not comfortably fit in the booth with a car seat. We asked to be moved to an open table with pull out chairs and were told unless we had another person they could not accommodate our request. I could understand this if there had been a waitlist, or the restaurant had every table full, but this was not the case. We quickly left with a terrible taste in our mouth, and will never return. Great neighborhood lunch spot. Known for its World Famous Hot Dogs, but I prefer the Chicken Caesar Salad. A simple salad packed with flavor. The chicken is always freshly grilled. I have eaten here several times over the corse of a decade cause I work nearby and exhaust myself of nearby options. The menus has never changed. The clientele are pretentious, the food is just ok. The waitresses are blah, and the owner is a prick. It's like a dungeon inside day and night. Very dark dusty and old. Fight the traffic and go to a chain restaurant in short pump or go hungry. The Xmas decor is also left up for way too long, tacky and traditional....I suppose much like its owner. This place is tired and needs to catch up with the times. The older generation is dying off and the legacy of this restaurant is soon to follow. The food needs a facelift as well as the decor. read more
