Reasonable price and good arrangement. I ran into melissa orchids and florist through google maps while searching for florist near my sisters job. May 10th is Mexican mothers day and i needed an arrangement quickly as i was told in short notice that my sister would be in the Cupertino area. We both live in hollister but my sister travels to Cupertino for work & her schedule can put her in Santa cruz, Cupertino & San Jose all in one day. I ordered online around 10:30am and set for a 5pm pick-up but my sister decided to bump up the time to 3pm so i decided to contact melissa with the time change and she was very professional and sweet & had no problem having the arrangement ready by 3pm. My call was at roughly 12:30pm. Mind you; this location is 3min drive from my sisters work. But of course her work would also need her in San Jose and I had already felt bad about contacted melissa with the 3pm pick-up. My sister shows up at the shop at 1:20pm and By the grace of god; melissa had the arrangement ready. We're beyond happy and soo appreciative of her quick service. Melissa's attitude, comments and quality of flowers said it all. My husband ordered roses and had them delivered to my work on Friday for our anniversary on Sunday. The flowers were delivered and the arrangement was horrible. All the roses were different lengths jumbled in the small vase, the filler flowers were already wilted and the water they were sitting in was clearly not clean and looked like they had been sitting for a while. When he texted her back after sending her the photos, she proceeded to give him a lesson on what a fresh flower is and when she purchased them (which was Tuesday and they were all left overs she said) and said she would be back to pick them up and would refund his money. Then she said "please do not order again from us, thanks." I have never received flowers like that especially when my husband was charged $80!!! And to tell your customer that these were all "leftover flowers"?!?! The roses were half open already. I've purchased nicer roses at Safeway! My husband felt bad that this whole thing happened this way since they were supposed to be a gift. There was absolutely no reason for Melissa to speak to my husband the way she did here was no apology either. Pretty sad and upsetting all together. read more

When searching for a place to buy orchids, I almost dismissed this shop because of the average 3.5-star rating. But then I realized the reviews were mostly either 5-star or 1-star, and the 1-star ratings were predominantly due to customer service complaints. I then browsed their online store and realized the prices at Melissa Orchid were significantly lower than other florists, so I decided to add it to my list of stores to visit. And I am so glad I did!! Melissa's had the best selection of the places I visited (different sizes and colors), and the plants were all healthy. For 2 orchid stems in a 5" tall pot, Melissa's price was slightly cheaper and her plants had more flowers in bloom than nearby nurseries, so they looked much more beautiful and gift-worthy. Another florist I checked out had equally full flowers as Melissa's, but Melissa's price was less than half the cost! When shopping for anything, it's rare to find the best selection and quality for the best price but that was exactly my experience at Melissa's. As for customer service, I had no problems but I can see how others could be dissatisfied. You may not be acknowledged or greeted with a smile when you enter. You may only get terse answers to your questions. You shouldn't expect to be showered with attention, but I would not consider that rude or poor service. Personally I like to have the time to make my decision and I respect someone who runs an efficient business. My goal is to get the best product for my budget, not to make friends or small talk. When I was finally ready to place my order, I received exactly the aesthetic guidance I needed and left with a gorgeous arrangement that ended up receiving numerous compliments. She has now moved to a new location, next door to the Subway, in a small plaza off De Anza Blvd. This new location is much nicer, very bright and spacious. She seems very happy with her new choice as well. I think the pricing for the orchids here are very fair, and such a wide variety of choices. The orchids typically last a good couple months, and if you take care of them well, they re grow every year. She's very patient with me as I make choices, and ask how much each orchid I like is. I've noticed if you pay with cash, she doesnt charge tax, but if you use plastic, she will. So I always make sure to bring cash. Absolutely remarkable work. I bought two of the larger arrangements for my mother and MIL for Mommy's Day, and I felt like a hero! They are so proud of them, they took pictures to share with all of their friends and family. It was easy. The flowers are perfect, the pots are modern and chic and I don't know how she does it. I found Melissa's business on Yelp and visited her shop about 4 months before my wedding. I was looking for an artist who could create a couple centerpieces to be placed on the altar for my church wedding ceremony. About 3 months prior to my wedding, I met with Melissa and communicated to her I envisioned: simple, classic and timeless. She showed me a number of options and kept the ideas flowing until we came upon the arrangement and pot that worked. She was patient and listened well, but also was not shy about her opinion! We agreed on two arrangements and before I left that day I placed a 50% deposit and set a pick up date and time for the week of the wedding. Flash forward to the pick up: I doublebooked myself the day of pick up and had to send my sister and cousin to grab the arrangements. I called Melissa when she opened that day and was able to pay the amount due over the phone with no problem. Shortly after our call she sent me pictures of the arrangements and they exceeded my expectations. They were exactly what I envisioned and for the price point I was so pleased! I kept them in a cool place until the wedding and everyone at the ceremony commented how unique of an arrangement they were and how they lent a sense of tranquility to the ceremony. We also had our wedding coordinators take them from the church to the reception, so no doubt we were able to receive our money's worth. They're currently in my house, looking exactly as they had the day I received them. Only constructive feedback I have is (and reason for 4 out of 5): provide customers with a printed invoice. I had my credit card record to reflect the 50% deposit I put down, however in hindsight an invoice and perhaps a pick up receipt would have provided me more peace of mind. With all the details that come with planning a wedding, I was a little anxious without some kind of proof that I had two arrangements to pick up; in fact, I called Melissa the day before the scheduled date just to make sure--she was pleasant and said they were ready for me. In short: Melissa does amazing work, definitely coming back in the future for special events and gifts! read more

The owner acted like I was breathing her air or something. If I wasn't already late I would not buy from here. The arrangement she made was really sloppy. She left water in the leaves of my orchids and there were scraps all around the flower pot. The worst part is that I asked for a paper towel to wipe it up and she gave me gift wrap tissue paper that can't wipe anything up. There is a big selection of orchids though. read more

First off, this is one of the best orchid shops you can buy orchids from. I love this place and have purchased many orchid plants that thrive. My daughter knows I love this place so she ordered an orchid basket for me from this place for my birthday this week. The basket turned out to be an orchid plant with ABSOLUTELY no spikes + a bunch of cut out orchids that the shop decided to snip from older wilting plants. An arrangement put together with carnations and a bunch of really shriveled up orchids. I know my daughter paid an arm and a leg for the basket in the hope that I was going to get a basket of live orchid plants with flowers on them! What a disappointment! I will never order anything from here ever again. Saying something on the website and delivering something else is not cool!! This is a wonderful shop that has a fantastic selection of beautiful, healthy orchids. I see here a couple dings on the owner, but I think she's really cool. She's totally open and honest if you ask her questions about anything, is happy to help you pair multiple plants and gives you all kinds of tips on how to keep the particular orchids you buy in bloom the longest as well as getting them to rebloom. She's a real artist when it comes to putting arrangements together. I normally don't do reviews unless I've given a place a few chances, but my emergency flower run today made me feel obligated to give this place some credit. We ALMOST forgot a co-worker's birthday and so I ran to 3 places in the area: Citi's Flowers by Valley Fair, Whole Foods, and then here Citi's flowers had EXTREMELY expensive arrangements. They were nice, but a vase with 2 roses and some fillers cost around $25 or more The decent one was over a hundred I went to Whole foods under the impression they had some arrangements as well, but just typical bunches you see at the Supermarket. When I first walked into Melissa's Orchids, I was soooo disappointed to only see 1 arrangement and it was already made for someone else. I really appreciated that the front desk and florist saw my frustration and quickly helped me pick out an arrangement with a price range. She said 10 MINUTES! Came back in 10 and paid for what I thought was very worth it. I'm only dropping a star because while both ladies were nice and accommodating, the place is not as presentable as other florist shops. It's not all a bad thing, because you get to see the florist at work and talking with you instead of hiding behind somewhere. It's like, a "mom and pop" florist where they don't have the time to constantly clean up, present, and commercialize but the selling item is there and well worth it.
