I was shopping around to get my wife's 2014 Subaru Crosstrek serviced. Apparently these are notorious for engine leaks and transmission problems but I was searching to get the latter serviced. After getting a diagnosed from Subaru, the amount to fix the transmission issue was in the thousands! I've searched yelp and called around but couldn't find a mechanic that new Subarus very well. When adding the AAA discount, savings were noteworthy. They also told me that several dealer-recommended repairs were either unnecessary or optional at this time, and they completed all necessary work on time and under quoted costs. Mekatron will be servicing both our cars in the future and we can't say enough for their integrity, quality of work, and outstanding customer service. I'm here, at 4:42 pm on a Saturday, for a smog, I pull up and the employees see me and say they're closed. Confused, I ask, isn't this the Smog Check place? I ask because they are located next to a window tinting place. They proceed to tell me that the smog check place isn't there anymore, and point next door..... I take one step outside, I ask "Isn't this Mekatron?", as I show them the Yelp picture. I follow up with , "Dont you do smog checks?" He says, yeah we're closed. Still holding the Yelp page on my phone, I show them that it says they close at 5. Then they both ignore me and one starts mopping the floor! Unbelievable! I wasted my fuckin time and gas on this place, so I hope I can help the next Yelp user by saying "Just go somewhere else. They don't want you business and they dont wanna work!" Ive been going here with 2 cars for 15 years. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving my car wouldn't start and almost had to tow it. I thought it was the battery and had it jumped by AAA but they tried several times and luckily it was successful so no tow: But through various tests it showed that it wasn't the battery at least at the onset. So at 10AM I got it to Mekatron and over the course of a couple of hours they concluded it was the battery and exhausted any other issues. Therefore put in a new battery. Happily I thought I was done and went shopping for Thanksgiving, After 2 1/2 hours, the car barely started after several tries and I brought it back to Mekatron, mind you it's Thanksgiving Wednesday and everyone was busy and businesses were closing. So at about 3 pm Ian and Mike agreed to repair the car no matter what to get me on the road. All car rentals were depleted of vehicles so I'd have No wheels for a while. So at nearly 6 pm a new starter was installed and I was saved by the heroes of Mekatron. I trust the staff there with their experience and training. It may seem expensive but the reliability and comfort I get by putting my vehicle in their hands is highly valued. My fortune is to have honest and professional car mechanics who really care. I was considering buying a used Honda CRV. I wanted the car inspected prior to purchasing it to ensure it was not going to cause me grief. I called a few shops in the area that YELP had high praise for. Two of the shops no longer did pre-purchase inspections....but one of them referred me to Ian at Mekatron. I call him up and he answers the phone right away. I tell him my story. The guy talks me out of buying that year of Honda over the phone by sharing with me his conclusive evidence of likely issues with that make and model of Honda. Been coming here for the past year, since I bought my used Fit. I found them through Yelp, liked the reviews from customers, and really liked how close they are to where I live. The mechanic was very professional when he gave it a full once over and Ian (owner) made me feel great about my purchase. They noticed a few things that needed fixing and did it for a fair price in just a few hours. From that experience, I knew these guys were my new mechanics. Been taking her here for oil changes and minor repairs, which have all been done in a timely manner at great rates. A few mechanics at the shop have worked on her and each one does a great job; Kim at the front desk is friendly and funny, it's always fun to talk with her. Hopefully, my one year checkup goes as smoothly as my previous appointments. *Should be noted that my dad was a mechanic for over 30 years, so I know what to look for in a mechanic shop...This will be my mechanic as long as I own a car and live within a 20 mile radius.* read more

I was a customer for many years. And I would have given them a 5 if it would not have been for my recent visits. For the past year I have had my car serviced here twice and it seems like they have grown too big and careless with the quality of service. They have always been on the expensive side, but I thought you get your money's worth. At my last visit they charged me for things they hadn't done, for example they charged me for wheel alignment and didn't do it, so I had to get the car to the shop again, which is a complete waste of time. They also didn't wire things they had opened back properly and as a result a couple of buttons in the console were not working anymore. They rush through their orders and seem to neglect the details. You probably get the same service for lesser elsewhere, so I wouldn't recommend this place any more. read more

Parts changers. Up-sell pitchers. Exaggerators. We took our Q45 to Mekatron several times during the years. Every visit ended up with a high bill which, considering the car, isn't anything of surprise. But the last visit about 2 years ago killed Mekatron for us. Our car had failed smog and they diagnosed the problme as an Oxygen sensor. No problem. They made the repair. It's what they recommended needing work that raised my concern. First, they said the head gaskets needed to be repaired. Yes, the car was leaking oil badly, admittedly, and a head gasket job was about 3 grand. Second, they said there was a coolant leak and that either the radiator or water pump (I honestly forget which) need to be replaced immediately, that it was leaking horrible and required filling every day. NONSENSE! Two years later I just replaced the valve cover gaskets. They were leaking. NOT the head gaskets. I replaced the water pump which showed evidence of a very minor drip. The radiator level was fine. Had been for the entire prior 2 years. NOT a problem. I believe it was Ian who also said they detected a light ticking sound in the engine which he thought might be valves. Another chunk of money. When I replaced the manifold gaskets not only was there no sludge to be seen but the valves, guids, etc., look essentially new. I have concluded that Mekatron is much like taking your car to a dealer for service/repair. Everything the mechanic spots as remotely being a potential problem is identified and then the sales pitch begins - and the mechanic gets a piece of the action right on up the line. This is speculation on my part, I can't prove it - but I smell it! Mekatron is an immaculately clean shop. The personal service is wonderful but boy oh boy, you really pay for the "experience". read more

Went in for a SMOG check today. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I told them I would drop my car off and go for a quick lunch. About 20 mins after dropping it off, they called me to let me know the work is done. They staff seem awfully honest about the off and deals. I was able to get $40 off since it was my first visit...but ya know, if their services was a lil bit more expensive than some of their competitors, I'd probably still go them. read more

My bmw 2007 died on the freeway and towed to Mekatron. I received a called next day for quote of $1540 for replace alternator and battery. I denied the quoted, they charged me $421 for diagnosed the car which is ripped off. I told them bmw dealer charges only $200 for diagnose, they relied, this is my shop charges, I don't care how much bmw dealer charge. I offer $200 for the diagnosed, they refused to take it, they refered me pay of $421 otherwise my car will be locked at their shop. I know they were took advantage over me, so I paided $421 for the diagnosis and towed my car to Reliance Auto Repaire, they quoted me for $450 to replaced the alternator. I was referred by AAA called for a quote from a professional woman who didn't need to put me on hold to ask a man or mechanic. She quoted $200 for a leak in my coolant tank. I thought that was a good deal since I called 5 star who said $800-1200 for the same thing and they looked at it. When I arrived the service people were attentive and nice, I left the car, they called me an Uber and a few hours later the car was repaired and the bill was $191 and change. I was very pleased to receive good service and happy to give my business to an honest service provider. I would highly recommend. read more

These guys are a diamond in the rough. Years of having my leg pulled about my 2004 Honda Accord are now over! They give you a priority list of your cars needs, take time to show and explain everything with patience and kindness, and are all just lovely people. Highly recommend! Ian and Michael are the team that is Mekatron. I just emailed all the Mekatron details and very positive recommendation to my second coworker. Mekatron is fast becoming the shop of choice for our company. The key benefits of Mekatron are they listen to you, they explain things to you in a no nonsense way, they are very schedule based, they call you with updates to the service to let you know how things are progressing and they will not undersell you, to only add up charges at the end. Other yelpers have mentioned they are at the high end of the price scale, and if you look at it "per task" it is spendy. But look at the overall process and the end result and you will see there is tons of value! My last trip in was over $2,700! But this included, 2 new rear shocks, 2 new rear struts, 2 new lower control arms (from Mazda $$$!!!) 4 wheel alignment (over 1.5 hours of shop time) and I added a full synthetic oil change (just because it was in). However Ian and Michael saved me over $3,000. I took it in at the same time for an exhaust leak and the Ian/Michael team called the Mazda factory and determined it was still under warranty, but only had 100 miles left on the warranty. So I took it to the dealership right away and it took the dealership 5 days to fix the exhaust leak, including dropping the sub frame, broken exhaust studs and a brand new rear manifold AND catalytic converter! When you meet Ian and Michael, you will wonder if you are actually in a garage. Ian has on a blazer and slacks, while Michael is working on the cars, he still has clean hands. Is this a garage? When I brought my car in it was for squeaky front brakes. Mike at the front desk said it should be no more than $300. If it was going to cost more they would call and tell me. I told him while you have it check the belts they are squeaking and it probably needs an oil change too. They diagnosed the vehicle the next day and came back with a laundry list of items costing thousands of dollars. Ian called to explain everything and did a good job. I authorized the oil change. But being an older vehicle I did not want to spend the money of everything else. The next day I was completely blindsided when I went in to pick up the car and Mike presents me with a $125 bill for changing the oil and diagnosing the vehicle. The standard in the industry is a free diagnosis and there are plenty of shops that offer this service. Needless to say I was upset as I only authorized the oil change and was not made aware charge me for diagnosing the problem. Don't have your customer sign a form and say it will cost $300 to fix it and then not fix it and use that form as a way to make a buck when they fail to authorize the repairs. That's just bad business. Good business is about communicating well. This was poor communication which is why I have given a poor review. But I welcome the opportunity for Mekatron to make things right with a phone call. read more

I've taken 3 different cars to Mekatron (Accura, Lexus, Toyota) a number of times, and it's time for a review, after having a major service done on my 2002 Accura TL. They had told me last year I should do the timing belt, even though the mileage was under the limit, due to time, and after checking, I saw the manual agreed. I called a couple of places, and Mekatron was lower or equal to any good shop, so I had it done. No problems at all, and it actually seems like the car runs better, even though it ran fine before. I enjoy going to the shop; it's very clean, the people are all very nice, and Michael, up front, is very knowledgeable and patient, and takes the time to explain everything they do, including the whys and hows. They have a nice waiting room with good coffee, if you need to wait, and they provide either a free rental car, or a ride somewhere close by. They are inexpensive compared to the lousy dealer nearby, comparable to any other professional shop, and AAA approved. The owner, Ian, still runs the business, and I could tell after talking to him that he really cares about quality. I really wonder about the one bad review from "Reviewer S" in San Jose - that's a long way from Concord, maybe his review is in the wrong place. I see his reviews before and after are all in the San Jose or Peninsula area. I know mistakes happen, but what he describes really sounds atypical. Makes me wonder... read more

I was referred to Mekatron by AAA, & decided to have my Honda Accord towed there, less then 1 mile from my residence in Concord. I had been using a very good auto mechanic in the Antioch area, but I am so happy I had a chance to use Mekatron. You can read a review which talks about pricing, one that talk about service issues, & the balance are very positive in all other aspects. My personal experience with Ian, & also with Michael, the cutomer service & work that was done to my vehicle, I have to rate as truly solid & outstanding. And even tho I was financially strapped, the total, for a new battery, cables, sensor, oil pressure guage & a bunch of other things, came in at $675, when I am sure the actual time & labor was closer to $1,000. I will definitely return to Mekatron for more service & can't recommend them more highly. In a time when customer service has largely been forgotten, Mekatron's work to build lasting customer relationships I find very refreshing indeed. read more

Well, once again we had a great experience taking our 2002 Infinity to Ian and Michael. Something went wrong and the car had to be towed to Merkatron. The computer "fault" code did not provide the specific cause but Ian knew past issues with the car and did a brilliant maneuver to identify which of the multiple issues was the culprit. Saved us costly diagnostic hours and costly multiple repairs to "hunt" for a cure. 5 stars seems a conservative rating! read more

It is true that this shop is honest and not trying to pull the wool over your eyes. They explain every step of what is going wrong with your car which makes it easy for you to understand. I would give it 5 stars, but I'm taking one away because you do pay for this honesty with your checkbook. I recently went here and was kind of taken back as to why it cost 800$ to replace a waterpump on a $2000 VW. I guess it is what it is, but there is definitely no price competitiveness with this shop. But as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Again, I would give 5 stars if there was more "value" in what was going on, but there really wasn't, I paid money for the job, I wouldn't exactly drive from out of town to go back to this place like other shops I've been to. I've been a Mekatron customer for close to 25 years. Today they impressed me even more than usual. My air conditioner went out today. I am leaving for a trip tomorrow and needed my car. I was in at noon, they found out I needed a new compressor. Knowing I had a trip planned, Michael found the part and had the repair done by the end of the day. They are a busy shop so I know that was a challenge. But before I left the car for the repair Michael arranged for a rental just in case they couldn't get it done. I've been a customer of Mekatron's for years, and am unfailingly delighted with the work they've always done. They are honest, friendly, and do top-quality work. And I've never felt that they charge too much. In fact, the last time I brought one of my cars in and asked only for an estimate to re-attach the front bumper that some idiot valet managed to nearly take off they re-attached it for free. Probably took them a good half hour or so, but I think they were afraid I'd try to do it myself and screw it up. Just plain great guys. They only work on Japanese cars, and frankly, no matter how well made any other car is I won't buy non-Japanese, because there is no way I'd use another shop for auto repair. read more

We've been taking our cars to Ian for more than 20 years. Our 1985 Civic we bought new went to 125K miles and we sold it 1997 for $2,500. Not bad for a care we paid $8,000 for out the door. Our 1989 Accord, also purchased new, went 227K before I donated it to charity, not because it didn't still run like a top, but because I needed an AWD vehicle. Why do we like Ian so well? Yesterday the check engine light came on the instrument panel of our 2007 Accord Hybrid. Called Ian. Instead of telling us to bring the car in, he explained it is likely due to the gas cap not being on tightly (three clicks). How many mechanics will tell you not to bring the car, that the fix is an easy one you can do yourself? Trust is valuable and Ian has ours. read more

I am extremely impressed with Mekatron. I am originally from NY and was a bit worried about finding a trustworthy mechanic out here. Dropped off my vehicle at their shop for the first time. My car was making a weird ticking noise; as I accelerated, the noise became louder. Ian kept me in the loop the entire time. He called me to tell me he didn't hear the noise when he drove the vehicle. I asked him if he put the window down; he was honest and said no and told me he'll give it another try. They ended up finding the problem and fixing it for me. They even hooked me up with a free rental! These guys are the definition of professionalism! Originally, I brought my car to Oakland Acura expecting the best service. Unfortunately, I ended up with the exact opposite. I won't bother wasting my time with Oakland Acura anymore! After having my wives '97 Mazda MPV serviced through Mekatron I would like to give them a good review. They replaced the timing belt, water pump, front cam & crank seals. They were on time, and on budget with the job. Up front and honest about what was going on with no attempts to upsell me on any unnecessary services (and I'd know too, a couple of semesters of De Anza colleges auto program generally keeps me from getting ripped off when I don't do my own work, and that been a lot lately with work & kids). It was quite refreshing, actually. Also a few weeks after the job, the bearing in the new waterpump failed. They were very professional about it, replaced the pump under warranty at no charge to me. Shortly after the van developed a bad stumble. I wasn't sure why as I had recent replaced the plugs, rotor, cap & wires. They plugged into my van with the scan tool & pulled the codes. Found out that one of my new plugs was already dead. When I asked them how much they wanted for the diagnostics they smiled and waved my off on my way to get a new plug at the parts store. That right there won them a customer for as long as I own a car they can work on. read more

I've had excellent service, they are very pleasant to deal with, are very knowledgable, and will take time to explain everything to you. They've installed new brakes, a new transmission, wheel bearings, basic periodic maintenance, you name it. Ian and Michael are honest, and have an excellent reputation. Rare in Class! I was having power issues with my car going in and out of power. It seemed that some wire must be loose but everywhere I called wanted to charge me an hour labor just to look under the hood. I bought a new battery and almost a new alternator at the advice of other places. But then I called Michael at Mekatron******He was very courteous and kind over the phone and said to bring my car in and that he would have his shop manager take a look under the hood and agreed it sounded like something very simple. Ten mins later Mike-Shop Manager scrapped some corrosion off the connectors to the battery, problem solved! No $$ charge, nothing just a kind smile send off. It is such a beautiful heartfelt thing to see people like this still exist in the world. I have been taking my 98 Subaru to the dealer for 15 yrs for repairs. I was satisfied with the service and prices until this year. Customer service became awful and the prices went way up. I tried Mekatron and was amazed at their attention to detail, customer service and knowledge of my car. I compared prices with several other shops before I went to Mekatron. I never told them I was comparing estimates. When they gave me the estimate I was blown away at how reasonable it was plus a free rental car. I will keep coming back as well as send my daughter's Hyundai to them. I've been a customer for several years now and I am happy with the service here. They do a good job. They are friendly and honest about what needs to be done. The prices are competitive, not higher than dealer. I've had my timing belt done, checked engine looked at and gotten repairs taken care of, and had my glove compartment changed out due to broken keyhole. They pay for a car rental if you need to leave your car here for a couple of days. Enterprise is across the street from the shop. They are open Sats to do repairs/work for scheduled appts. I like that they give explanations of what is wrong and what needs to be done. I take that info and decide what needs to be repaired first and what can be done at a later time. They do not pressure you into getting repairs done. They make notes for you so that you are aware of what needs to be done next time. Will be back for services for my VW Jetta. read more
