Sure, still charged me $185 for diagnosis. Thought I was getting taken for a ride by my Carmax warranty because they were only willing to pay $66 towards the $160 charge for the part. Turns out that is exactly what the part retails for, checked AutoZone and genuine Chevy parts online. This place doubled down, they reserve the right to mark up the parts as they choose on some margin they weren't able to disclose to me, wouldn't tell me how much they paid for my part, just that they weren't gonna budge on what they charged me. Ladies, make sure you ask ALL the questions, don't let anyone think you don't know what you're talking about before you leave your car with a mechanic shop like this one.

Absolutely stole $400+ from me…read more Visited them in September 2023 because my A/C was not working properly. They informed it was just time to recharge the refrigerant and it would be around $430. I said this seemed steep and they said it would be $120 if I did nothing and just picked the car back up for their diagnostic fee, they gave a big pitch about why it cost so much for this type of refrigerant and their work includes a warranty and yada yada. I said fine go ahead. At which point I looked up Autozone's cost for a can of the refrigerant with a gauge and it was $150. So I called them to tell them not to do the work, I would just do it myself. A full 8 minutes had passed and they said "sorry, he's already finished and parking it now." $430 for 8 minutes of work must be nice especially when they don't stand behind it at all. Fast forward to the end of February, it finally had a day warm enough for me to turn my a/c on again and now it's doing the same thing it was when I brought it in. Called them up and they said yes I'm still in the warranty. Take the car in. They determine there is indeed a leak in the valve and argued with me for having the car for a few months since the last time, I informed them that the months between September and February are known as winter and I hadn't been using the A/C. They agreed to honor their service warranty and fix the leak but asked me to pay for the lost refrigerant which is magically now only $108 lol. I was about to resign and agree when Kyle kept on about how the leak wasn't present in September, I told him I think it could have been because that's a big coincidence, at which point he then scoffs and said FINE WE WILL JUST FIX IT THEN. When I went to pick up the car he handed me the card for another mechanic as a way to say he didn't want my business anymore, which was never ever ever in danger anyway. Now HERE I AM JUST A FEW WEEKS LATER and guess what isn't working again? So congratulations on the $430 for a job you clearly did not do. I'll find somewhere else to fix it this time. If this was the type of service I provided in my work I would be ashamed of myself. I cannot recommend against them strongly enough, they should scrape the "Honest" sign off their building and just be Negative One Auto Care because that's what you get with them.

Wednesday the technician called and said it had no compression, that they would tear into it further and was to call back the next day. The following day I didn't hear from them so I called. He told me they weren't quit sure what the point of failure was, but took pictures and sent them to the parts supplier to help identify the failure. (Red flag - the failure had to be identified to be able to know what part failed, right?). The next day they told me the timing chain broke and they "suspect" it caused major engine damage and that it would be 20K for a new motor installed - in a 11 year old truck that is only worth 12K. I asked about the warranty, since the failure was a direct result of a part they installed and they said its not covered because the list of exclusions (of course). They told me the manufacturer would not cover any of the damage because the part was out of warranty (1 year). I asked where they got the parts and a quick search showed they had their choice of buying the kit that had a 1 year warranty or a kit that had a lifetime warranty. (They charged me the equivalent price of the lifetime warranty parts, and didn't ask if I would like to pay extra for more quality parts). I go in today to have the vehicle towed to my home and all the parts they removed are on my leather passenger seat without even a paper towel put down. After I finished taking pictures, someone came out, I'm guessing the mechanic, and placed my dipstick in the pile of parts. I asked him if it was standard practice to put dirty oily parts on customers seats like that. He responded it was indeed the practice if the vehicle is stored outside. EDIT: It's been a little over two weeks since the owner/manager commented on this review to ask for contact information in which I provided. I have yet to hear from him.

Initially things were going well and I was starting to get back on my feet, but then Walgreens sold to a private equity firm and I lost my job. I was also tricked into purchasing a car from YouDrive auto a few months prior because of being in a bind when I left Virginia on an Amtrak with a single backpack of my clothes. Needless to say after I lost my job, that set me back yet again to only having what is in my car because the storage locker I got after I moved out of my apartment was auctioned over a $50 surprise rental increase. Don't make any mistakes, I take full responsibility for my situation but I point this out because I want you all to understand the situation I am in, and the depth of care this Meineke showed me, right up to the owner of the location spending hours working on my car when the starter got fried. I literally have nowhere else to turn, finally receiving two job offers starting next week and being on the verge of finally starting to see some light at the end of this tunnel. Right now though DoorDash was my only income and even that got suspended because I had to cancel an order when my car wouldn't crank. Stranded in the parking Lott of a planet fitness for 3 days before deciding to come to this Meinekes, after being turned away from countless mechanics including other Meinekes because of my current financial situation. I had honestly lost faith in people, businesses, life, and even god himself. A few days ago my mind was going places it has never gone before into dark places I hope it never goes again towards ending things for myself and simply not having to deal with this struggle anymore. Days with no food, no ability to make an income, no ability to move to even attempt to make an income will do that to a person. I've been a paramedic in my past and I never understood how people get to the point of taking their own life but now I understand. I came to this meineke and told the my situation; they immediately started working on my car because I had a job interview I couldn't afford to miss. Everyone in this shop from the guy at the front desk, to the mechanics were all working on my car trying to rush to ensure I made it to my interview. They're the only reason I was able to get there and get hired into a job that will be better financially than the one I lost months ago. A few days later because of problems that already existed with the vehicle prior to this situation, and because of being in a rush to get back to making money to catch up from the downtime, the car once again left me stranded and I came back to the only place that showed any concern for my situation. That is when I met Alex, the owner. Him and his entire team looked over my car and he then spent hours upon hours himself trying to get the problem fixed. As a 38 year old, I can honestly say that in all my years I have never once seen a business care about an individual customer so immensely. I have never once seen a business owner on the ground working vigorously in the sweltering sun during a 108 degree heat advisory for hours. Staying well past an hour beyond their store closing in an attempt to get me back up and running. Everyone at this location all the way up to the literal owner genuinely cares about people and the situation they're in. They're beyond fair and honest to their customer's and the quality of work they put into their customers vehicles is next to none. Money cannot begin to repay these folks for the kindness, respect, concern, and humanity they have shown me. I owe these people and in large part the owner so much more than money can ever repay for not only working so tirelessly on my vehicle and only source of income until I start my new jobs next week. But for also showing me that people actually still care about other people and giving me a chance to continue to climb back from rock bottom when no one else would.
