Really nice and big Meijer location that I went to several times during my 3 day visit to the area. This store definitely has everything you would ever need and then some! If you've never been to a Meijer, just think of a higher end Walmart but also larger in size. Meijer typically carries groceries, sporting goods, toys, clothing, shoes, electronics, school/office supplies, and home decor. Prices seem pretty good, especially because they have random sales, promotions, and even clearance sections. This is especially true for their clothing and shoe departments. Also be sure to sign up for their Mperks rewards program to earn points towards future discounts! read more

Just because you have the monopoly in this year area doesn't give you a license to not care about your customers. Meijer, you're too damn big for your britches. Your customer service is non existent. The latest episode of incompetence happened at the Cascade Meijer this afternoon. I spent over $165.00 and didn't go home with all of my grocery bags. This has happened at least 4 other times this year alone. Why is it so difficult for the cashier or bagger to make sure ALL bags make it into the cart? It's not rocket science. Furthermore it's not my job to babysit your cashiers and baggers. I went to make dinner this evening and I'm missing 4 items. I have the receipt and I paid a lot of money for said items. Get your act together Meijer and start training your staff. I live 25 minutes from the Cascade Meijer. They should reimburse me for the gas and my time. Dinner is going to be late tonight. read more

Every part of the country has its own local grocery chain: in Portland, New Seasons Market; Georgia, Publix and Kroger; the South, Piggly Wiggly; New Jersey, A&P (Atlantic & Pacific), and in Michigan it's Meijer (pronounced "Meyer"). Meijer dates back to the Great Depression, 1934, and opened its first modern all-in-one grocery location in 1962. The retail landscape has changed dramatically since then, and one can see the effort the struggle against mega-chains like Target, Costco, and Walmart are taking. Employees, far and few between, are hard to find when shopping the cavernous spaces filled with everything from groceries to home decorations and electronics. The lack of quantity of scale means that Meijer pays more for things that Target, for example, has already squeezed out of their supply chain and brick-and-mortar costs. I see the attraction to shopping at a local place, but it's harder and harder to overlook the shortcomings and inconveniences when doing so at Meijer. I like this meijer the employees are friendly and facilities are clean. In the bakery they have mini free cookies for the kiddos. The Starbucks is a convenient addition as well! I try to avoid coming in weekends because it gets pretty busy. Today was a good day. I was in and out on a weekend. Some of my favorite Products sold here is the Hint of honey almond milk on the top shelf by the milk, kinda hard to see. Did you know? This is a different Meijer than the rest in town. There are grocery items at this store not carried by other Meijer stores in town. A great deli counter and their cheese selection is awesome. The weekends can be so busy here so we avoid it on Saturdays and Sundays. Staff can be hard to find at times, but usually they can be found if you are patient. read more

BREAKING NEWS!!!! "New Razor"? "MORE LIKE POO RAZOR"!!! I'm speechless...... apparently my " new razor purchase" was actually used and contained some random persons hair stuck inside the blades, sticky brown who knows what all over the handle. I'm not a picky person or one to complain about things ever. Typically I would deal with it. BUT THIS HAS GOT TO BE, THE MOST DISGUSTING ITEM I HAVE EVER SEEN OR PURCHASED ANYWHERE!!! I was extremely shocked. I will never be going back to this Meijer's again, other than to return this... so I highly recommend to steer clear of the razor section for awhile. OPEN DISCRIMINATORY BEHAVIOR BY THEIR EMPLOYEES THAT'S CONDONED BY MANAGEMENT. STORE DIRECTOR MATT AND RACHEL F. / Meijer's Management (5531 28th St. SE) appear comfortable with their employees openly discriminating against minority customers. On 6/27/21 I walked into the 5531 28th St. location at about 7:24pm and waited in line at the deli 7.5-8mins. 2 persons were behind the counter. I was 2nd in line and waiting patiently while this White male employee stood their and just looked at me while cleaning a meat cutting machine while I was waiting all that time. He never acknowledged me or anything. Meanwhile the person (2 people together) in front of me was being waiting on by a Black Female. It was my turn and I go up. This other white male customer comes over from the side of the Delhi where he was not in line but instead standing in the middle of an aisle on his cell phone (and he didn't even have a number), walks in front of me, and demands to be waited on. Guess what? The white male behind the counter runs over and starts waiting on him. The white male customer kept yelling and making demands. I'm just curious to know why a White Customer who is not in line can demand to be waited on while I'm about to be served, and why didn't that same employee cleaning the machine have that same sense urgency to wait on a black female customer standing in line for 7.5 to 8 minutes? Management came over and seemed to not really care....or find it alarming.....at least that's what their body language conveyed. They said, "Oh, so did you find everything else in the store you were looking for?" That was their response to the situation. read more

Really one of the poorest Meijers I've been to. When I was shopping around the holidays, it was pretty easy to forgive them being poorly stocked frequently. However, after shopping there several more times, I've noticed they are always out of multiple items. Today, they had no pull-ups my kid needed and they were completely out of a bunch of frozen items, including nearly all the Tyson chicken products (I took a photo) and were out of several other items I usually shop for - not just one or two. My wife agreed this Meijer is just not worth going to, do we're switching stores...ugh. read more

Date/Time of Visit: 8:30pm Was welcomed at the door by a friendly greeter. Easily found the shavers, neatly stocked. The lighted shelving feature in the health and wellness department was a nice feature and helpful to see the product lineup. The pet department was being stocked at the time of visit. The store is generally clean, and the staff is very friendly, but I am constantly having to take second/supplementary trips to other stores because this Meijer is *always* out of stock. Every single visit they are out of their store brand diet cola--and this time that included diet orange and root beer. This trip they didn't have block Gouda cheese, queso fresco, and RED ONIONS! I asked a woman where she found hers, and she said she had to scrape through the box of white onions to find one. The only red onions available were two-pound bags of rotting ones. They never have tempeh. Often don't have the Oikos Greek yogurt I need. I just wish they could get it together so I don't always have to go to Walmart, Trader Joe's, or target. I stopped in to return my Red Box movie, and grab some steak for dinner tonight. I was greeted right off the bat by David D. who was kind and welcoming. All the items I was looking for were in stock and the shelves were organized and clean. Round steaks were on sale for 4.99/lb. (I'm super cheap, otherwise I would have gone for a better cut- which they had plenty of). I also grabbed some organic veggies for salad and snacks- which they had plenty of as well. Pat V. checked me out. I waited about 6 minutes once I entered her lane. Most lanes had one or two customers waiting. My only complaints were the stabby customers in the parking lot. If they could restrain from dinging my car doors or almost hitting me while walking across the pedestrian walkway, we'd be all set. read more

I headed to Meijer to search for some local Michigan beer to bring home to my husband (you can call me the best wife ever). I wasn't expecting the amazing selection I would find there. There was practically an entire row of Michigan brews, along with a refrigerated case with individual bottles that I combined to make a Super Six Pack full of various local beer. I was super excited to find a UK Cosmo magazine in the rack and it didn't cost a ton like they usually do. Everything is cooler in the UK. This store has a little of everything, so no matter what you are looking for, they will have it. read more

I just moved away from Michigan and I miss the thrifty acres so much. The Cascade Meijer is the best one by far, but the others aren't far behind. Extensive wine section too! Plus, the best in cleaning products, makeup, hair stuff, holiday decor...Meijer has it all, and the best bonus is is a local business. Stay away from Walmart and get to Meijer. Much to the chagrin of my Chief of Staff, I like to grab a cart and go up and down all the aisles. This can take an hour minimum. I've been around the world, and around this great nation but nothing makes me prouder to be an American than the Meijer shopping choices. You can get golf balls, bird feed, 1/2 percent milk (in case 1 percent is too fatty, and skim is just too thin, it's like a Goldilocks dairy solution), fresh pomegranate, a helmet mounted flashlight, deck shoes, a tea pot, a Timex watch, and Blueberry Mead all in the same shopping trip, a gasoline fill up for the car, at any hour of the day (this is not a hypothetical combination). The Chief of Staff would not allow me to get a bow and arrows, which is probably just as well. Meijers in Western Michigan are superior, I've found the Meijers that have expanded into other states like Indiana and Illinois aren't as good, it has to do with the way the workers here are sincerely friendly, neighborly, as well as competent, it's an ideal combination that apparently can't be exported out of state. This particular location isn't as pristine as some of the other locations I've been to, it may be showing its age a bit. read more

This is one of the bigger Meijer - I assume they use this as a playground/trial store as HQ is close by. Always clean and well stock. Never much wait at the registers. I'm not a fan of their new grocery lay-out, inter-mixing the grocery items with the clothing and other merchandise. I think Meijer has the best quality options at a consistent lower price. This Meijer has a customer service area that is more like a casino... spending way too much time with those lottery customers than doing returns. The deli kiosk is a good idea but they rarely slice meats as they were ordered. Then you have to return to the deli and watch the painfully slow workers slice it again. I've made the occasional trip to the other supermarket chain in GR (rhymes with "Mall-Art.") and I keep getting pulled back to Meijer. Better selection, only slightly higher prices. Meijer is pretty awesome. Coming from a land of Walmarts and Kmarts, Meijer was a huge upgrade. Everything just seemed so much more in order, and the employees were much more friendly. They had a "Buy 1 pair of shoes, get another for $1" which was perfect as that was the main objective of my trip. They don't have a lot of different brands of shoes, but I was able to make the sale work out in my favor. The one downfall ended up being a huge downfall. We were there late at night, and the 2 check out lines they had open had long lines, so we opted for the self checkout. Which...would have worked perfectly, until there was a problem with the checkout machine. They had one guy monitoring the 6 or so checkouts and he was REALLY slow. My friend couldn't get an item to scan, and he told her to go back and get another one. She came back and the item wouldn't scan again and he just told her that "he didn't know how to fix it"...so the item wasn't purchased. Really weird customer service there. read more

Oh Meijer, how I miss my Cincinnati Kroger! IMO, Meijer is expensive especially compared to Kroger. At this store in particular, there are not a lot of organic produce options, and I've had to return oranges twice now because they have molded the day after I bought them! The fruit and veggies in general here do not seem very fresh. They are constantly moving around the produce, so I never find the same thing in the same spot, which is very annoying. I mainly shop at this store because it's the closest one to me. I try to buy food at Costco and Aldi also in hopes that the prices are better and the produce is fresher! Meijer does have a nice selection of ethnic foods, and I appreciate the non-food sections, so that I don't have to run around town to buy everything that I need. They do also have a nice beer and wine selection with wine & cheese tastings on the weekends. Overall, Meijer's prices are cheaper than D&W Fresh Market (or Publix in some cities), but more expensive than most of the other grocery stores that I've shopped at around the country. I really don't like Meijer's monopoly on the area, and I cannot wait until Trader Joe's opens at the end of the year! I wish that Whole Foods would move in soon too!! read more

This is probably the best Meijer store I have been to. Always clean, great selection also. The produce and meat are always good. There is a very good pharmacy, and the vitamin selection is outstanding. They have a good selection of everything overall. I am disappointed that they are pushing the Fall Creek clothing, I have found its kinda cheaply made and shrinks very badly, There is a very good beer selection including craft beers from all over. If you like to drink like me this is s good thing. The bathrooms are not cleaned as often as the should, I often stop in and toilets are plugged, seats are disgusting or there is no toilet paper. read more

I have been going to this Meijer for years. Prices are generally ok except I noticed their produce and meat prices are getting expensive. Just as much and sometimes more than D&W or Forest Hills Foods. Its disappointing because the main reason I went there was for the reasonable prices even if I have to drive a bit farther to get to them. It looks like I'll go to FH Foods more now unless I want fresh seafood. So far, Meijer's prices are less than FH Foods on seafood items. Then there's Aldi and Walmart super center too. read more

I am impressed by this Meijer store's selection of gluten-free and vegan options, as well as their selection of mushrooms to choose from. One problem with this Meijer is that they don't always have what you want in stock. I've come in here on several occasions looking for organic cauliflower florets for stir-fries, and was unable to find any because they were sold out. They have also discontinued a few of my favorite gluten-free items such as Daiya pizzas or other convenience oriented frozen foods entrees for those on restrictive diets or who are health-conscious individuals. For those who haven't been there before, Meijer is like a more upscale version of Wal-Mart. Meijer stores tend to be similar to a Wal-Mart supercenter, but they seem to have a more pleasant environment to shop in, and have a larger selection of specialty foods to choose from. read more

I stopped shopping here because anytime I would go to the deli to pick up lunch... their employee John would find something to get mad about and start throwing a fit. I don't even know the guy, I just know his name from his tag and I can't go to the Deli during lunch without him going nuts about my order when it is simple every time. If anything I want is already packaged somewhere in the store he will point and tell me to go get it. first, if you're ever in the midwest, be sure to visit meijer thrifty acres. second, if you currently live near a meijer, you know the magic and majesty that is meijer. and the cascade meijer is the belle of the ball, in my opinion. the positives: cleanliness, produce quality and variety, olive oil selection, bottle return, bulk dog treats, garden section, print your own photo deal (with like a dozen individual stations!), great pharmacy (with a drive through for the particularly lazy), huge deli, bakery with whole grain baguettes, pour over coffee filters, solid alcohol selection with empty six pack boxes to make your own), toys, and everything else under the sun. the negatives: the book section is overflowing with ultra conservative and religious "literature". simply a reflection of the area, so i'd subtract half a star. however, meijer gets an extra half star for still keeping it real with sandy, the $0.01 mechanical pony, entertaining kids for decades and decades. finally, if you're like me (and for your sake, I hope you aren't), you like to do some grocery shopping with a huge cup of coffee. the cascade meijer has a starbucks, which is great in a pinch (I prefer the purple cow, rip). a better option is to swing into the meijer gas station on the way in and grab a huge extra strength coffee- much tastier and cheaper. plus, you can fill up your car! all that you may need and sandy's still a penny let's go to meijer! read more

This particular store has an exceptional range of Michigan wine at amazing prices---during my last visit I bought wine that would sell for $25 at Safeway in San Francisco for $5. One of the worst Meijers I have ever been too. It's very nice, fancy and clean, however it's poorly stocked. They were out of almost everything I was there to buy. Fresh dill, eggs, cream and a few other things. How can a store this large be our of cream and eggs? Worst of all there was no employees to be found in those areas either. Okay, I love the concept of Meijer... It's where one can one go to buy eggs, control top pantyhose, a fish tank, some tires, and cliff bars? Hell, I bet you could find disposable slacks and a infant shark cage if you really wanted too. And I love that it's local. The hell with Walmart I say!!! But over the past year I have noticed that this location (my favorite) has gone down hill in many ways. First and foremost clean the bottle return area! It is always a sicky mess and half the machines never work. Oh, and today the trash was over flowing onto the floor. Second, get some employees who can answer my simple questions. If the store is so large and disorganized that the employees can't tell me where my beloved salad dressing is there's a problem in river city. Oh, and greet me at the check out. If I ask for paper don't roll your eye's. That just pisses me off. I do love the beer and wine area you have added. Prices can be a bit cheaper at Walmart but at least they don't keep only 2 cashiers staffed 24/7. Walmart isn't a place you go to be treated like a person & have your personal time considered & appreciated. I'm going back to Meijers.. This Meijer has recently gone through a complete overhaul in look and feel and now is one of the most pleasant locations in the area. The outside appearance of the store is a faux Main Street and the inside has been remade into a clean, modern store. read more

I use to go to this store when I was growing up in Wyoming Michigan. My little sister and I always had fun at Meijers. They always had little samples of food there. One time when my sister was about 5 years old we were in Meijers and there was a lady handing out samples of this pastey stuff. It was on crackers. Well my sister took a bite of it and spit it out and yelled "Ewww! Yuck!" Our mom said "Don't do that! You tell that lady your sorry." And my sister said "But mommy.. it's gross!" And then she ran away from the samples table and over to the cart. I was laughing. Anyway that's one of my favorite Meijers memories. I have a lot of Meijers memories. They're all good ones.
