Oh man...if you want a hole in a wall Hibachi with a good time and great vibes, DEFINITELY check out Mei Hibachi. We came here for my son's birthday and invited the family. We were about 17 people reservation and Mei Hibachi was able to accommodate us. The food was great, I felt like they gave bigger portions than other hibachi places. They also had a salad bar that had some fried stuff that's off the menu and actual salad that you can build. Complimentary. Which is great because why not have some extra food on the house right. The ambiance was a bit on the older side, so when I said hole in a wall, I meant how it looked. It's not done up nicely, but what they lack in ambiance they make up in service and good vibes. The owner waited our table. She was great. The place is BYOB so remember to bring your bottle. Also, if you feel like singing some kareoke, just ask the owner and she'll break out her kareoke machine. We ended up closing up with the restaurant because we had such a good time with the kareoke, the byob and the great service. Coming back soon soon.

I would easily give this place 5 stars but there are some things off and shady about their billing system. Initially, my boyfriend bought a Groupon for this restaurant thinking it was situated somewhere within the vicinity of New York City. Well. . . there's nothing like a little trip on the bus to New Jersey. The groupon isn't exactly specific and states that it's $30 towards hibachi dinner for two. We both thought it would entail $30 each for a hibachi dinner for two people but it was just $30 off the final bill. Which they bring out of your entire meal including tip (didn't realize) and then after the fact just snip off $30 from that. So we did double tip. In some states we call that blatant theft. I guess New Jersey is able to get away with that. They don't state the tip is included anywhere on their receipt. So it's well hidden. Beware. The good: They do have a buffet of free appetizers before the hibachi dinner starts. I'm wondering if that's like an 'I'm sorry we're dicks but hey who doesn't love popcorn shrimp and sweet and sour chicken!?' Also, included zucchini fries, chicken satay, a variety of dipping sauces, and iceberg salad. The hibachi chefs were the true pros of the night. Very entertaining and very skilled. They did the whole schtick and squirt shots of sake in your mouth and throw appetizers at your face. It's a fun time. Included was miso soup, fried rice, lo mein, stir-fryed vegetables, shrimp appetizers to whatever you end up ordering for your main for hibachi. I went with steak and shrimp and he went with steak and salmon. I enjoyed the meal and had leftovers to go. It's also byob which is awesome as they have both a wine shop and a grocery store nearby in the parking lot to prep for byob. It's just a damn shame they eff up with both the pretty much pointless Groupon because you aren't saving nearly anything and the already included hidden tipping system. This restaurant would have been so much fun if it didn't leave a sour taste in my mouth when I got home and did the actual math. Yes, we left a 66% tip on what was supposed to be a $30 meal. Now, tell me how you really feel? It's a scam. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back given how long it took us to get here. Anyway, hopefully this gets rectified by the manager in the near future.

The food is awesome and the entertainment was great. The service was very attentive. Highly recommend the place for hibachi. They have huge selection of sushi as well.

Came in at 10pm on a Friday for sushi and ordered three rolls- Godzilla, princess roll and the spider roll. We were seated immediately. The restaraunt was practically empty. The sushi menu is extensive. One of the rolls was good (the middle one in the photo) the other two were not. Too much rice and the spicy tuna was clumped on top like a small mountain but was not good. The sushi did not taste fresh and the coating on the deep fried rolls seemed a bit stale. I was disappointed and won't be back for sushi. On the bright side, staff was very attentive, friendly and quick.

That is my "filet" and scallops. Can't say anything bad about the veggies - the rest was not fit for an anyone to eat.

Food was horrible. The rice was still as hard and crunchy as it would have been uncooked. Paid for filet that was definitely not filet and my portion of filet and scallops was very small. They don't care if you are not satisfied and leave all your food for trash.

Used a Groupon and called ahead for a party of 4. Had to order one to go hibachi because I didn't order it at the table and didn't realize I had purchased the Groupon for 4. But all good, no biggie although the food tastes so much better made at the restaurant. We ended up with three chicken hibachi and one Emperor Deluxe hibachi which all came with two pieces of shrimp. All of these came with fried rice, noodles, and veggies. The food was delicious and the cook was entertaining for both adults and even my toddler. Great experience and def worth the prices!

Well, some things were great and some were not! I started off with a glass of water - which ch was served with a bug in the glass. I usually love hibachi and I know the meal is not all served at once but things were way out of order. The last item was the shrimp appetizer. We had several appetizers. The soup & salad were good. The spicy tuna roll needed spicy Mayo sauce. The guoyza & vegetable tempura were both good but the beef negamaki was not very good. The main dishes were good but everything was covered with too much soy sauce. Me and another woman at the table asked for more water. The waitress came over with a pitcher and filled our glasses. We both took one sip and almost gagged! It was pure salt water! We could not understand when she apologized she said she took someone else's pitcher by mistake. That made no sense! Who was being served a pitcher of salt water! Our server did not throw the veggies in our mouths. That was disappointing. I was not happy with our bill. First of all they added the tip and chose whatever amount they wanted (and we already tipped the chef with cash). They also charges us the tip on the tax! That is not proper. Also - I had a gift card for $25 but they took it off at the very end - after I was charged extra tax and tip. They should have totaled my meal, then take off my gift card, then figure what tip should be and add in tax on the food. I have very mixed feelings about my experience.

The tables are spread out and comfortable!

This place has great options and delicious food! The service is top tier, a very fun cook and he cooked my steak to perfection. There are 4 hibachi tables so make sure to call ahead to make a reservation! I love the filet mignon and lobster combo, the noodles were nice and tasty! I'm the ambiance is your ideal hibachi place, and it's on a main road!

My family had placed an order consisting of cucumber rolls, avocado rolls, and a kani salad. All of which was ruined by the bitterness and chemical like taste of the cucumber. Now if the cucumber itself is bitter it should not be produced and served out to customers. My family is a big supporter of this place and the fact that this is our experience tonight is more than disappointing to say the least. If you guys proceed to serve bitter cucumber in the future please put a notice of that. This was not okay and I'm very dissatisfied to say the least. Do better.

Not terrible food but cleanliness is suspect. The waitress was efficient but not terribly friendly. All the staff seems crabby. I ordered a Thai plate and my husband ordered a bento box. Both were rather delicious but there is some odd undertone there. The bathroom was also dark so hard to tell if it was actually clean. There are few lights on, it seems many lights are broken or need new lightbulbs. It's not cheap so I never understand how a place next to a major store would not do well. It was empty other than a family doing the habachi meal. The food was good but, something is very off.

We drove to New York from Toronto, came to Mei Hibachi Steak House. We ordered 4 sets Hibachi dinner. One lobster, one scallop, one chicken and one steak hibachi dinner. With the dinner came free side dishes/ appetizer such as fried chicken, fried zucchini, salad etc. also came with soup. We bought a groupon for $39cad for $60 worth and only can be used for Hibachi dinners. The lobster and scallop was good, rice and noodles flavorful , steak wasn't as great. The chef was great, although I saw the others seem to do better tricks. He was still good. We tipped him $10. Only to know in the bill they already applied 20% tips to the bill after . I felt this should be communicated to us first, unless this is the norm in NY? Because we were at other restaurants and they didn't automatically apply 20% tips. If I knew I would have pay another amount to the chef as that's a lot of tips for the dinner. At least this wasn't as bad as the other review who paid 66% tips.... Luckily we looked at our bill before paying.

Its just not right... what's with all the ONIONS.. Eeek!!!

I stopped by a food stand called call Kasume Donkasu to grab something for dinner…read more I ordered a new dish pasta chicken dish with spicy topping. The plate looked very attractive and well presented. It came with fried chicken cut into pieces, ramen noodles, shrimp, and a spicy touch that added a lot of flavor. I personally preferred dipping the fried chicken instead of pouring the sauce over everything, which kept the chicken crispy. The combination of fried chicken, noodles, shrimp, and the spicy flavor worked really well together. I really enjoyed it, and this has definitely become one of my favorite dish of this food stands inside the H-Mark market. The food court is shared with other food stamp. My dining partner and I were seated rather quickly. Our server took our drink orders and came back promptly so we could order our food. The menu is pretty extensive but we ordered an assortment of skewers and a bowl of ramen to share. The skewers came out little by little; about 3 skewers per plate. They didn't come all at once so I assume they bring them out as they finish getting grilled. The chicken heart was some of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure if it's the way it was sliced, the seasoning, or just everything about it but I wish we ordered more. The tail skewer was another standout. It had so much crunch that it was almost like it was fried. The flavors were rich and varied. Each skewer cost upwards of $4 so that's a bummer. Unfortunately the ramen wasn't so great. Not terrible, but not great either. Especially not great for $19. Not my first choice for ramen. Is it the most bang for your buck? Certainly not. But I did enjoy my meal and in the end, that's what matters.

What started as a handful of niche noodle shops is now a full-on culinary movement. All across Jersey, ramen chefs are crafting rich broths, house-made noodles, and inventive toppings that delight the senses. Located on State Street in Hackensack, I frequent this establishment numerous times during the year. Ramen Azuma pours out their soul in preparing perfectly the classic Japanese cuisine. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the staff and got an empty table by the window inside their cozy and inviting vibe. Their menu features a wide selection of ramen, curry, and appetizers. I decided on their newest edition--Wonton Ramen and 3 pieces of Fried Chicken. The savory ramen soup was filled with shrimp wontons. Even though they were very thin wonton wrappers with a smaller amount of filling, they tasted consistent with other shrimp wontons from past restaurants, accompanied by Menma Bamboo, Scallions, and Egg. The Fried Chicken was well seasoned. The food overall remained authentic and incredibly flavorful and on point. The portion was very generous. Friendly service, and the price was reasonable. Make sure one comes on an empty stomach.
