We arrived 15 minutes early for my Husband's 3:15 appointment. An hour later we had yet to be acknowledged except for taking our money and completing paperwork. Meanwhile, the front desk "trainer" and another clerk were gossiping, laughing and chatting- ignoring myself and others at the front desk waiting. After I approached the front desk, we miraculously were called back- 50 minutes AFTER our appointment time. But we only saw an assistant for tests. We were then put in a full waiting room and told there were at least three patients ahead of us so it would be ANOTHER 25 to 30 minutes before we saw a doctor. So two hours plus for a check up. But it gets better- turns out there were 10 patients ahead of us. So I wouldn't believe a word that anyone at this office says. I was considering using this practice for eye surgery myself. There is no way I would give them a dime of my money with such an inefficient office. If I ran my business this way, I wouldn't have a business. Zero star rating. Do better, Mann Eye Institute.

$268.00 for a contact lens exam…read more That is not a medical bill. That is a ransom note written in optometry ink. Two hundred and sixty-five dollars to look into my skull windows and tell me what shape of plastic disc belongs on my eyeballs. I did not walk into your office expecting a luxury spa treatment for my corneas. I expected a routine contact lens exam -- the same basic exercise I have had before, including through this same business, at roughly a quarter of the price. So when the bill came back at $268, I had the distinct feeling of being mugged in broad daylight by a phoropter. If this exam was going to cost $268, that number should have been made clear before the appointment began. Not whispered through paperwork. Not hidden in a fog of billing codes. Not revealed at the end like the final twist in a bad carnival scam. It should have been stated plainly, directly, and unmistakably: "Before we begin, this contact lens exam will cost $268." Had I heard that sentence, I would have stood up, thanked everyone for their time, and walked directly out the door in search of a business operating somewhere closer to reality. This charge is outrageous. It is excessive, poorly disclosed, and completely unacceptable. No reasonable person would expect a routine contact lens exam to cost $268 unless that price was made brutally clear in advance. I am asking you to review this charge and provide a fair adjustment or refund. And I want to be very clear about what happens if this is brushed off. I will not slink away quietly and absorb this nonsense like a beaten insurance animal. I will share an accurate account of this experience everywhere people look before choosing an eye care provider -- Google, Yelp, Facebook, LinkedIn, neighborhood groups, local forums, and any other digital town square where people still value being warned before they are financially body-slammed over an eye exam. Call it social media shaming if you want. I call it consumer hygiene. I will not lie. I will not exaggerate. I will not invent a single detail. I will simply tell people the truth: I was charged $268 for a contact lens exam, the price was not made clear enough before the appointment, my prior exam through the same business was roughly a quarter of that amount, and I would never have agreed to proceed had I known the cost. This is exactly the kind of customer experience that deserves sunlight, noise, and a long paper trail. Review the charge. Correct it. Explain how a contact lens exam became a $268 ambush.

Based solely on Michelle's…read morereview I checked out the training of Dr. Lindsey and found we both attended the same med school. That was enough for me. I scheduled an appointment (I was able to be seen the next day) and the visit went smoothly. The office staff was friendly and efficient, and Dr. Lindsey was delightful. Every good thing Michelle said about Dr. Lindsey was true for me, too. We had a good time chatting about faculty we knew in common. My fears of an eye infection were groundless (my discomfort was most likely due to allergies so she gave me some eyedrops). I had her do a full refraction and eye exam since I was already there. She found my current eyeglass prescription was fine and didn't need to be changed, and that my eyes were perfectly healthy (she said they were likely the healthiest she'd see all day). I'll see her again in a year, and look forward to it. If you need an ophthalmologist who is well-trained in diseases of the eye as well as the normal eyeglass and contact lens fitting, then I recommend Dr. Lindsey. Other physicians who are members of the group practice (The Eye Institute of Austin) appear to be equally stellar in their pedigrees.

She listens well and proposes workable solutions for every little complaint - like loading me up with samples of various eye drops to try with my finicky gas permeable lenses. Her staff is excellent, as well, and for as long as I've been seeing her, she's had the same assistant, the same optometrist, the same contact lens expert - the longevity in this office just says something. Also, she hates waiting at the doctor's office, so she works hard to stay on schedule, which I so appreciate. Doctors who realize that their patients' time is valuable, too, are much too rare. I'd recommend Dr. Lindsey without reservation.

We saw Dr. Thai for our 10 month old as we had concerns he might have a strabismus. Dr. Thai was friendly and approachable from the get-go. Even though it turns out our son had no eye problems at this time, we got the sense Dr. Thai really cared about our concerns. I've had dismissive doctors in the past, but Dr. Thai is the kind of healthcare provider I always hope to find: he listened, explained every step of his examinations, and he put us at ease. As for the waiting area, yes, it is a bit cluttered with toys, but I found that made for an interesting environment for young children. Needless to say I was basically blind in that bright afternoon sunlight on the drive home almost causing an accident when I couldn't see well enough to avoid swerving into a center median while turning. Second, I was never notified the exorbitant cost of the dilation on checkout and only noticed it on the single bill I finally received several months later. Third, I told them I could not receive postal mail but they insisted I give them a postal mailbox anyway. They never sent me a bill electronically, only through the postal mail, and then they added late fees when I did not pay the bill but I never received. I only received the paper bill by happenstance. Fourth, I was told I would receive a glasses and contact prescription but at check out they only had a glasses prescription and they required me to pay $75 extra if I wanted that. Later, when discussing the exhorbitant bill with the billing department, they only credited me $70 even though my credit card statements showed I paid $75. Fifth, the glasses prescription I was provided was rejected by two different online providers as being an invalid prescription. Moreover, when I went to a brick and mortar shop to get contact and glasses prescriptions they verified that the prescription was nowhere near accurate and was unusable. Sixth, the building department was completely unhelpful. They gladly removed a charge here but then added it over here so the final amount was still the same. They didn't seem to care that the service was poor, the prescription was invalid, my safety was put in jeopardy for really anything else. There is nothing good that I can say about this shop and, personally, I will never go back to them and trust them with my vision.
