I have been on several trips with Megabus. The first ride itself was ok, but their reservation system (ANA - SFO) made a mistake and had me booked on the return trip which left three hours before I even arrived! A first-year computer science student could have fixed that mistake. There was no customer service, except a recording which stated that I can change my trip up to three hours before departure. Except that would have been six hours before I arrived!! After that no further contact. Only a semi-friendly driver "allowed" me to go back with the next bus, because there were plenty of unused seats. On the third ride, a woman driver was hellbent on arriving on time that she drove at high speed, which was completely unsafe and inappropriate for the weather and road conditions (there were torrential rainfalls during that trip - all the way!), and during the drive along highway 152 (from the 5 to the 101 fwy), she drove constantly in the No. 1 lane, but again so fast that at one time I could feel the wheels on the right front side was starting to lift off in a right curve. When I wrote a complaint, I was promised a voucher for my next trip to be free, When it came, it was for $9.99 and my trip cost a lot more, so it was a reduced price, but not a free ride. Again, customer service non-existing. On the fourth ride (again SFO to Anaheim) the driver outdid himself with rudeness, condescending remarks and even yelled at passengers who dared to take the front staircase, which had no signs whatsoever that this was not allowed. He even threatened them with having them removed from the bus by CHP.
Forgot to mention: even though the weather was really cold, the cold air was on, leaving people freezing. Requests to increase the temperature were greeting with a driver clearly annoyed by the mere request, and otherwise it was ignored.
Ride 5 was reasonably ok, but we arrived an hour late, though that was better than having an unsafe driver. Ride 6 back to Anaheim was one hour late leaving Oakland and arriving 1 1/2 hours late. During the last trip an African-American driver (Kenneth) outdid himself with rudeness, yelled at me for having put my suitcase into the bus by myself, gave condescending speeches regarding toilet use and threatened passengers with leaving them behind after the break-stop in Buttonwillow, after which he was replaced by another driver. This guy has a serious attitude problem and should be reminded that passengers are paying customers, not his slaves! Forgot to mention: he made me pay $40 for my heavy luggage (which is ok), but when I asked for a receipt, he just laughed and walked away. That money probably went straight to his own pocket.
During NONE (except one) of these trips was the internet working, but the drivers always said that "internet is wonderful thing if it is working, but (s)he cannot make it work." Seriously? The router itself worked, but there was no connection to the internet. (It worked only for a little while during my last ride, otherwise none of their buses had WORKING WiFi, though it is heavily advertised.
Overall, customer service is practically non-existent. There is no number to call and you get standardized response from assorted "team members", who could be all the same person.
Assessment: NEVER AGAIN!!! Unsafe, rude drivers who collect money without receipt, no customer service, a reservation system without any checks. WORST BUS COMPANY EVER! read more
