If you're looking for reliable, comfortable, courteous, safe and honest transport, this is definitely not the bus for you. Because you will get none of these things. I wish I didn't have to write this review but unfortunately everything I'm saying is true.
I rented the Gillibus 4 months in advance of my October weekend retreat planned for a group of 20 people hosted 2 hours from SF. After reading a few good reviews on the bus, as well as having seen the bus multiple times out and about, I was confident I had made the right choice.
Alex responded to all my emails starting in June, and I sent him a deposit to secure our reservation for both Friday and Sunday.
We have multiple emails where I described the schedule of events and set specific pick-up times as we we're strategizing with 20 peoples schedules. I even created a google map route that I sent him via email before the event, to ensure things would run smoothly for my guests. Neither his phone or the driver's had the updated google map app, so they were not able to use this properly and I had to text him a list of every single address, even though I had already sent him that the day before. (Try doing this while also loading a bus, while 3 hours late to pick up your guests)
My pick up time on Friday was 4:30pm. I had the chefs, DJ, and other organizers meet me at our first pick up spot at 4pm. At 4:10 I received a call from Alex saying his bus was having mechanical issues and although he was trying to fix them, he wouldn't be able to get to us until 6pm and possibly in a completely different bus than I had reserved with no DJ capabilities.
After a few minutes of dire panic & frustrated tears knowing all my guests were waiting to be picked up at their assigned locations by 5pm, I buckled up and awaited Alex's 6pm arrival. When the driver finally showed up with the yellow bus at 6:30pm, we had to wait for them to clean out the entire thing in front of us. I imagine because of the rush, they missed the sticky soda covering the whole left side of their "lounge". Yuck.
Question. If they knew our pick up was at 4pm why was the bus full of someone else's party at 6:30pm when he finally arrived?
By the way, the bus has 0 cup holders and one 1 tiny table to set drinks and food (and the dj set up).
Although Alex had mentioned I could definitely fit a massage table in his "extensive storage", his only tiny storage was filled with his own trash and collection of random items which he tried to push to the back.
Some of the windows on the bus don't close, and if they do, the driver had no intention of helping us do this. So once on the freeway, it was pretty cold and drafty inside.
When we were finally on the road by 7:30pm (3 hours late) we suffered through an extremely bumpy ride (don't recommend for city use). When we finally arrived to our retreat property at 11pm I decided (out of good faith) to tip the driver $100 since he technically did his job.
After an amazing weekend in the woods, and almost forgetting about Friday's nightmare, we were all packed up and ready to go with a scheduled pick up time of 2pm on Sunday. At 11am I texted Alex to make sure everything was running smoothly and we could still expect our pick up to be 2pm. He quickly responded that everything was cool. (Phewww)
When they hadn't arrived at 2:15 I texted Alex again thinking maybe he was running a couple minutes late. He didn't seem to have a clue what was going on, and even though 3 hours before he said everything was cool, now he had no idea and had to call the driver.
The driver was another full hour late and just kept saying "There was traffic, there was traffic, there was traffic, there was traffic" as he waived his arms in my face and repeated this line 4-6 times in a row in front of my other team member, who also commented on his rude and aggressive demeanor. Had he just apologized instead! (By the way, this is the same driver I was gracious with on Friday, and also tipped $100).
When we got on the bus the 2nd time, it was dirty again with old beer cans and dirty ice water floating in the coolers. My guess? Alex overlaps trips to make all the money he can and has no regard for other peoples business or reputation. Either that, or they are completely terrible at what they do. Last time I checked the transport business is all about punctuality as it's first objective.
I planned this weekend for 5 months and although it went really well (besides the bus), the bus experiences really spoiled it for me as the host and organizer, causing me more stress than I've ever endured with any other service I've used.
Alex never apologized or checked on us after the 2 terrible experiences we had, and although this is just my opinion, I don't think he really cared.
ps. I asked Alex if I could see the bus before my event and he said I was over-thinking it. Hmmm now I see why. What a fraud. read more
