This is my third time riding the megabus from DC to NYC and despite the negative comments I can honestly say that so far I've had a pleasant experience. The buses I've been on have all departed on time. I'm docking a star because of the no refund ticket policy, boo! read more

Really bad service in general. Conditions of the bus aren't good. It's very uncomfortable. Also, don't believe the arrival time, it's always 30 minutes more. The price isn't even better than other bus services that are way better overall. Never taking Megabus again. read more

I will NEVER use Megabus again. They just canceled my bus and was forced to reschedule. There were no options for me to reschedule that would work with my schedule. I called customer service and they are absolutely useless. I asked for a refund and they refused a refund and since I was within 24 hours of my trip I could not change it. It's bad enough almost every bus I get on is always late and or have issues half way through the ride. The cheap (sometimes) tickets are not worth their idiotic customer service reps and/or policy. Do yourself a favor and use Greyhound express. A little more expensive but I'm sure their customer service isn't completely useless. read more

0 stars!!!!I am writing this review from the middle of nowhere..!!!After freezing off for more then 3 hours because of improperly functioning AC Megabus NY-DC broke down! The driver just stopped and got out, without announcing anything. Waiting for another bus to come and pick us up for more then 3 hours...4 AM...Finally the next bus from NY-DC arrived to rescue!!! But: 1) there was no space for everybody, 2) as soon as we got in they said we need to get out because the driver's shift is over so the bus can not move anywhere!!!!Whaaaaaat???????4 AM!!!!50 people out there freezing and the driver's shift is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Horrible management, incompetent drivers, the most irresponsible bus service I ever seen!!!Never ever ever again!!!Shut it down!!!!This kind of service and business can't exist!!Not safe!!!!Not safe!!!! read more

I will never buy from Megabus again. My husband and I were planning a trip to New York from DC today and coming back tomorrow. Our bus was canceled due to a severe winter storm (no big deal) and the other bus (Best Bus) was kind enough to give us a credit to use between now and a year from now. That leaves us to figure out what to do with the bus ticket from New York back to DC. I called customer service and they told me I could get a credit, but would have to pay a fee. No big deal. Got online and tried to do so, but there was no option to trade it in for a credit. I called again. A gentleman told me to just book out far so I could have enough time to decide what day I actually wanted to book because I had no idea when I was able to make the trip again. Paying the rebooking fee, I decided to book out far and get cheaper tickets ($10 for 2 seats instead of my original $38 for 2) because the website led me to believe that I could get the rest credited. I booked those and went to go see if anything had been credited to my account. No credit. Called again and another gentleman said there was nothing they could do. I completely understand that they weren't able to reimburse us, but it seems like this company will do anything to get an extra dollar. I had to pay and extra $5 for a rebooking fee online, but they tried to do it all three times that I called to get an extra $10 to use the phone service. I was just trying to ask questions. So now I'm out a total of $50. Don't use this bus line. At least Best Bus gives you the option to credit incase you don't know when you can go for the people that have busy schedules. I'll say once again, do not choose Megabus read more

Holy sh1t!!!! Megabus has the BEST customer service ever. I take back anything negative I've ever said about megabus. Seriously. Today I accidentally deleted my confirmation email and had no printed confirmation of my ticket from DC back to Philly. It was 945 and the bus was scheduled to leave at 10. I explained this to the bus driver and asked if I could show my ID, but he said that they only use ticket confirmation numbers, not names. I was in full blown panic mode when I decided to google megabus customer service on the of chance that they'd answer at 945 on a Saturday night. A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ANSWERED AFTER THE FIRST RING and provided me with my confirmation number after verifying my email address. Thank the megabus gods, I am now on the bus en route to Philly... I still can't believe I averted a potential crisis! Lesson learned- I will always print out my confirmation number from now on. read more

Don't EVER take Mega Bus. The 7:30 DC - NYC bus showed up 22 mins late...when a bus finally did show up, we were told by Mega Bus personnel with really crappy attitudes that it was the 8:00 bus. When the 2nd bus showed up, it was a single level, contracted out bus with no wifi. We were told that was the 7:30 bus, and when I explained that I paid for a double decker Mega Bus, the same crappy attitude said, "what ya wanna do about it?!" What I want to do about it is he on the bus that I paid to be on - a double decker one with wifi!!!! Mega Bus, you guys are awful. Your service is terrible, and this is a great example of false advertising. I assume you're going to refund this portion of the trip since this isn't what we paid for?!? read more

Can I give 0 stars?!? I arrived an hour early for my bus but they sent me a message telling me they would 30 minutes late. When I go check the bus left early!!! Who does that?!? Why announce u will be late? They made miss my bus and now customer service just hangs up on me! read more

I wish I could leave a zero! This last experience I had with Megabus was the worst experience ever!! First my trip was from New York to DC at 7pm the bus was an hour and a half late they didn't tell us anything, nothing, some random person who didn't even look like he worked for the company just walked the line once and said "hour late" turns out the 6 pm bus hadn't even arrived?! At this point it was 7:15 pm. It wasn't until 8pm that someone who actually knew what he was doing came and let us know that the bus left the terminal late and is stuck in the tunnel. The only saving grace was that the buses weren't booked completely and we were able to get on that bus otherwise who know what time I would have left New York. Spoke with customer service to let them know that I wanted a refund or an adjustment because they left all of us in the dark until 15 mins before a bus came and they said "nope we have nothing stating that the bus was late" like seriously?!? Never again unless you want to be left in the dark and eventually picked up should you ride megabus read more

Of all the new megabus venues, DC's is probably my favorite because they have developed very well organized lines for a curbside service and there is a roof overhead with garage parking and plenty of transit connection options including Greyhound and Amtrak and Bolt Bus all under the same address. read more

Megabus DC - Travel Services Near Me

This is my first and last experience with megabus. Just watched a megabus employee scream at a woman when she asked about boarding. It's 97 degrees out, the bus has been here 45 minutes, supposed to leave at 7 and they could care less. There are to many other options to put up with this kind of service. read more

The service is HORRIBLE!! I don't know why I never learn my lesson when traveling to NYC. The bus is late half the time, the stop across from the Jacob Javits center has attendants that are SUPER rude! And the seats are small. The tickets are cheap and that'a the only plus. So I guess you get what you pay for!!! read more

Price is compatible with others e.g., boltbus - wasn't much of a bargain. I had to cancel a trip and was told that I won't be able to do that. There is no cancellation except roll it towards the next trip - in which I have to do now when I can't forsee future trip at this moment. Additionally, when I asked to speak to the supervisor, I was told that there is nothing the supervisor could do and abruptly hanged up. I wanted to understand if there is indeed no cancellation policy, except for exchanges only - if this is the case, then their website needs to be clear and transparent. read more

Would've given it zero stars if I could. The customer service sucks. The bus took off half an hour later than the original time. Their luggage policy is stricter than most airlines. I had one large luggage and a carry-on luggage, but they said the carry-on was too big and charged me $20 for it. Also the bus driver didn't even know where he was going before taking off! The tickets are cheap for a reason. You get what you pay for. read more

I've ridden Megabus on this route for years, but apparently they no longer offer any kind of value. Here's the blow by blow: We make it as far as Delaware before the bus breaks down. The driver says we're waiting for another bus to arrive. One hour in to the wait, when it does, there's room for less than half of our bus's passengers. those lucky few board, but in the process of getting their bags out of the storage compartment, the driver throws everyone else's bags all over the parking lot - in puddles, in the path of cars, etc. Two hours in, the mechanic gets there, and finds that it's not regular wear and tear that caused the bus to break down - it's a maintenance error that has put a leak in the oil tank. Ridiculous. Three hours in. I've been on the phone with customer service twice. Both times, when I asked to speak with a supervisor, they literally HUNG UP on me. Our replacement bus finally arrives. On the move again, about 20 minutes away from NYC... and the bus driver pulls over at a gas station for his break. This is the story of how Megabus took nine hours to get me from DC to NYC in zero traffic. Guess what, everybody? Greyhound now matches or beats Megabus's prices for the route. read more

I would give zero stars if possible. HORRIBLE service. I bought tickets for myself and a friend to Philadelphia from DC and back this past weekend. The day I was supposed to travel back, I got a notice on the way to the bus stop saying that the bus was 2-3 hours delayed due to mechanical issues, and I would receive an update by text or email when they had more information. My friend and I returned to our friend's house to wait until we got updated information. After an hour and a half (and after the bus tracker stopped updating) I called Megabus customer service. They were unable to give any updates, saying that they couldn't locate the bus, and to call back in 15 minutes and they would have more information. I called back 15 minutes later and was told the same thing. I called 5 times, over the course of almost an hour, and never got any updates. They just told me to wait at the stop until the bus shows up. The last 2 times I called, I said I wanted to change my ticket to the next morning because there were no other busses leaving that evening, and they refused, saying that tickets can only be changed 3 hours before departure time. I'd love to know how I'm supposed to change a ticket 3 hours before departure without knowing it would be delayed. The last time I called, they also refused to refund my tickets. The bus NEVER came and I got no communication from Megabus until the following day. They are only offering credit to travel with them again, and refusing to refund me. Not only did it cost me an additional $50 to buy 2 new tickets because they wouldn't change my tickets, but I had to pay for an additional night of pet care ($35) and an extra Uber ($40) to catch a ride home early the next morning. I was also late to work on Monday because of this. I will NOT use Megabus again. read more

This is the worst bus service ever. I mean EVER. I'm currently writing this review, standing in line for my bus that was supposed to leave 15 minutes ago. It's not the bus is having issues, the employees are literally just standing around talking. They haven't told us anything. Just hanging out. I would honestly rather taking Greyhound and pay the extra $10-15. At least you might actually make it to your destination. read more

DO NOT TAKE MEGABUS if you value your time or sanity. I usually take greyhound and have never had a problem but booked megabus to New York because they had earlier departures and I needed to arrive by a specific time. Half an hour after we should have left, the bus was still sitting in union station with no explanation. Eventually I heard from other passengers that a panel was falling off the bus and we were waiting for a mechanic to fix it. After 45 minutes without any official announcement I asked the megabus staff how much longer it would be. They said they had no idea and were still waiting for the mechanic. At this point I realized that my only option for getting to New York on time would be to get off the bus and take Amtrak. I was told to call customer service to ask about getting a refund. The customer service rep did not listen to me and kept robotically repeating "we do not offer refunds for weather or traffic incidents out of our control." This was a maintenance issue completely within megabus' control, and the website says that refunds can be offered if megabus fails to provide reliable service. I asked for a manager. He eventually admitted we were not talking about a traffic or weather issue, but claimed he couldn't decide whether to issue a refund until after the bus arrived in NYC (who knows why) and said I would receive an email. He refused to tell me his name, refused to let me speak to anyone else, and then hung up on me. Needless to say, I never received an email. I have never experienced such abysmal customer service. A mere $30 refund would have pacified me. Instead, I will never take Megabus again and will urge everyone I know not to take it. I will gladly take any other bus service or pay 5x the price for Amtrak rather than deal with this company again. read more

I've rode the Megabus before from the White Marsh pick up which kind of sucks because you're the second stop from DC so you most likely won't get a good seat because it will already be full. Getting on at the DC stop at Union Station is a lot better, first choice of seats! I was shocked that our bus was barely full on our trip up to NYC one Friday morning so we got good seats and we had extra room to stretch. Our Megabus even had a cool skylight feature so it was just one long window on the top row so you could see out, made it feel less like you're in a cramped bus. Two reasons I took a star off: 1. We stopped somewhere on the side of the road about an hour before hitting NYC and we had no idea what was going on. We saw there was another Megabus behind us that was also stopped and after about 30mins of sitting there wondering whats going on the people from the other bus piled on to our bus. They told us that the door on their bus wasn't shutting properly which lead their bus to basically lock up so they couldn't move. Of course I have no problem in helping other people but the bus driver should have made an announcement to tell us what was going on. 2. Thank God I checked the pick up location again before leaving the hotel because it was ALL the way on the other side of town! Completely different location that where it dropped us off. Thats a little hard and misleading. And the bus was crazy packed so it was just a little bit more uncomfortable. Overall it beats driving to and from NYC in your own car and having to pay like $60/day for parking at a hotel. read more

The worst. My husband will divorce me after this...LOL. On a serios note, I've only took a bus to nyc once but i don't remember it being this bad. In fact, i have a great memory of it which is why i convinced my husband to ride on the bus w me to nyc when he wanted to take a train. Anyway, other bus lines didn't have a very late departure so i picked the megabus. WTH. First, folks at the union station are not the nicest people. Second, seats are very uncomfortable. In fact, the bus was full but one of the seats was broke. But of course, someone had to sit there. Felt bad for the girl sitting behind her. Second, why in the hech we stop twice? And lastly, we are supposed to be there by 1155. It's now 1222 and we are not there yet. WTH?!?! We would have been on time if we didn't stop twice (once to change the driver and took about 10 min). So yea. Megabus sucks. read more

Today at 3:10 PM I am out of the office until 12/31/2029. Thank you for your interest in Megabus. This email address is not regularly monitored. Ugh. I won't be taking this bus again - and why would I, when there a so many other options from DC to NYC? Abysmal customer service, zero directional signs to show you where the bus is amid the 25 other busses in the bus terminal. I looked for directions multiple times prior to coming to the station - all they said was go up. I went up, I was just shy of the 15 minutes early and I still missed my bus - wandering around the bus terminal will do that. And by missed I mean it was there when I got there and the woman working refused to let me on - it was 859 for a 9 am bus. Ugh. The worst. Do yourself a favor and take pretty much any other bus option that's out there. read more

Your view on Megabus in some ways depends on your personal circumstances, but I'll do my best to review objectively. Megabus claims to offer modern, comfortable, and efficient transportation at a low price. For about $25-30 each way between DC and NYC, the price point is indeed great. Online bookings are simple, and the ability to now reserve certain seats for an extra fee is welcome. That's where the pluses end. In all other ways, Megabus is a complete disaster. I've taken two round trips to NYC now, and neither one was close to pleasant. First off, traffic obviously sucks on I-95, and that isn't Megabus's fault, but treat the trip times they provide with a grain of salt. Second, be prepared for problems with your bus at least 75% of the time. My first trip, the bus was overbooked so the company found some third party man who owned a bus to take half of us back to DC. Very sketchy and unprofessional. As it was a Sunday, passengers were vomiting most of the way back after apparently busy weekends. On my most recent trip, the ride up treated us to an hour long stop on the side of the road to "fix a system." No one ever showed to fix it, and we finally continued on. An hour wasted for nothing. Additionally, the bus driver drove 15 mph below the speed limit while we watched every other bus company pass us, and we later made several more unscheduled stops. Some of these stops were so customers could vomit (seriously) from the bouncy, stuttering nature of the ride. Total trip time? 8 hours (supposed to be 4.5). Finally, the WIFI is largely useless and the staff will be VERY rough on your luggage while loading and unloading. Bottom line... if you just need to get to NYC or elsewhere and the money is a real concern, then roll the dice on Megabus. It'll get you there eventually. However, if you value your time, comfort, and punctuality, and can afford other modes of transport, the take the train every time. I've given this company two chances, and cannot recommend them as reliable transport. read more

The worst costumer service I have ever experienced! Trip to DC from Philadelphia. The bus broke down in Baltimore on the side of the freeway. We had to wait for three and a half hours! The driver had no information about what was going on and would not allow us to leave the bus or open the windows. We eventually did because the heat was unbearable and this caused the driver to get into several heated discussions with other passengers. I had originally paid extra to change my ticket in order to leave Philly early and arrive to DC at 9p.m. I got to DC at 12:30 a.m. They won't refund your ticket, they only offered to compensate us with half of our ticket in Megabus credit. Like we would consider riding with them again. Several passengers missed their flights and trains, it is not a trustworthy transportation. read more

Customer service is poor. Every person we interacted with was rude, and just plain stupid. Megabus is not worth the cheaper price, I would rather pay extra for a better experience. Additionally, the power kept flickering on and off throughout the trip. I took the bus from Manhattan to New york. There was no one working the line prior to the bus pulling up, no signs, and no lights. Very sketchy. People can say "you get what you pay for", but it's really not that much cheaper than competitors like Vamoose. Vamoose is the best one, worth the price and quality customer service. Will NEVER be riding Megabus again, I felt unsafe and anxious the E N T I R E trip there and back. I wish I could give 0 stars. read more

I took Megabus about a month ago and had a terrible experience. I always write to the company I have a problem first to see if I can resolve my issues with them, but Megabus did not even respond. Thought I would share my email since Megabus obviously doesn't care: "Hello, Last Friday, I traveled from New York to Virginia and was appalled by the state of the buses. I had not contacted before now because I assumed Megabus would have contacted the passengers and issued an apology without prompting. Our bus was supposed to leave at 1pm, but did not leave until 1:40. We had to wait in the direct sunlight with no explanation when we asked what was going on. Then, once on the bus we were told that the bus was inspected before departure in the safety video, and yet we had only been traveling for around 15 mins when the air conditioning stopped working. This might not seem serious, but on a full bus with no open windows, the heat was suffocating and I felt extremely light-headed. We pulled over at a rest stop and had to wait there for a new bus to arrive and to transfer all the luggage from one bus to the other. Believe it or not, our next bus (DD043) was even worse. About two hours into the trip, an alarm sound starting beeping and did not stop for a half an hour. My friend and I moved to the back of the bus where we couldn't hear the alarm. About 10 mins later, we felt a thud and the bus started slowing down on the highway. Immediately, cars started honking all around us and then the bus driver announced that we experienced engine failure. The bus came to a complete stop on the highway and we thought we would have to wait for a new bus again. However, after being at a standstill on the highway for about five mins, the bus driver tried turning on the bus again, and with frightening screeching noises and thuds, it turned on. We were able to drive for about five mins until the engine cut out again. For the last hour of our trip to Virginia, this was the frightening way we made it home. 'Terrifying' does not amply explain the rest of the trip- the driver would blast the horn and race through red lights so the bus' engine would not cut out if we stopped. We did not get home until two and a half hours after when we were supposed to arrive. I am disgusted with Megabus and the way you treat your passengers. I have always appreciated Megabus' cheap prices and recommended Megabus to others, but cheap ticket prices are not worth the danger we were put it. I took pictures of damages on the Megabuses we were on (e.g. air conditioning vent precariously hanging down over the people sitting next to us). I can not believe that Megabus let this this catastrophe of a bus ride happen without explanation or apology. Tara T. P.S. While I do think the driver drove recklessly towards the end of our journey, he was always polite and tried to be as honest as possible with what was going on." read more

I am completely disgusted with the lack of customer service that your company provides. I will be posting this review to your yelp page as well as your twitter page because people need to know how bad your company is operating. I was on one of your buses leaving from Washington, DC Union station heading to Philadelphia PA on Friday August 12th. The bus was supposed to leave at 6:20pm, it didn't, it was late. Apparently when we got to Baltimore the driver and his assistant knew that there were mechanical issues with the bus but failed to make an announcement to any of the passengers. Right outside of Delaware the bus broke down, on the side of the highway, because of my proximity to the front of the bus I could hear the bus drivers assistant on the phone with dispatch requesting another bus because "There is no way in hell this bus is making it to Philly" At this time we are still sitting on the side of the highway with no lights on no AC running and the rest of the passengers were still unaware of the problem. I asked that an announcement be made instead of allowing passengers to continue to panic and was promptly ignored. The driver restarted the bus drove for another 5 minutes and then had to stop again because the bus turned. At this point passengers increasingly became more agitated still with no announcement from your staff. Once we finally got to the Delaware rest stop we were told that we would have to wait for 3 hours before a replacement bus would retrieve us and take us to our final destination. I made a phone call to a friend and was promptly picked up 45 minutes later. I called today to request a refund and was told that I could be given a credit for 25% of my ticket price so that it can go towards my next trip. Here is the thing. I will NEVER use this company again because this is the third time that I have had issues with this company. Your staff is unprofessional and rude. I was hung up on twice after requesting a manager. I don't want a credit for a future trip. I want my money back. Until that happens I will continue to leave unsatisfactory reviews for an unsatisfactory company. Also I'm STILL WAITING FOR MY REFUND FROM THE TRIP I TOOK TO NORTH CAROLINA! read more

I am a fairly loyal and regular customer. I have many trip with you logged in the past few years. Lately the service has been slipping though from the great service it used to be. Today it slipped all the way down way past unacceptable. (Would give it no start if I could) The bus was 50 minutes late in arriving to pick us up in NYC and more than an hr late in departing for DC.. We had to stand out in the freezing cold with no explanation from the crew there for way over an hour. Chaos ensued with no control when the bus did arrive. The bus driver did not say anything regarding the lateness-no apology no timetable no nothing. He never turned on the heat during the entire trip. The bus was freezing freezing cold. We stopped at white marsh; a few people got off but we waited and waited for nothing and all the while the driver left the doors open-both doors so the freezing cold air from the outside blew in for more than 10 minutes and it was just unreal. Someone asked him when we would be leaving and he just stared at her. She asked again and the same response (they were no more than a few feet apart - I heard her - he heard her.) So unfortunately this was so bad that I will truly have to think about traveling this rout again with megabus. read more

I rode Megabus from NYC to DC for the first and last time... by far the worst experience I had ever had with any bus company... it was freezing outside and they had us waiting for 1 hour and 1/2.... The bus driver threw him and the passengers some toilet tissue to clean up... it was tissue everywhere... read more

While I don't know what everyones experience was, I think the majority of the people with * to ** reviews, probably had too high expectations. If you're looking for the top of the line everything then you need to spend the money to get that. I paid about an 8th of the cost of Amtrak for my Megabus, and had zero issues. Staff was pretty courteous throughout, as I took a bus from DC to NYC. It was a smooth ride, no real issues. The wifi/outlets did not really work, which was the only major negative, but they don't work all that well on Amtrak either. Either way, for the money I would recommend it. read more

1 star, because 0 is not an option here. Worst bus company out of all the ones that drive out of DC. I arrived there well before departure, and was waiting in line to board the bus. When I got to the front of the line, I was told I was late, and that they wouldn't let me board. I even payed for an assigned seat, which I was able to see from outside the bus, and was completely empty! The dispatcher Sherlyn Adams, and her colleagues, were extremely rude also. They basically stole my money and prevented me to board the bus. Avoid this company at all costs. Greyhound feels like a limo compared to Megabus!! Also, when I tried to call customer service they basically said sorry, I can't help you.Totally useless customer service!!! read more
