Unfortunately I was given a lot of lip service and no results during the month I tried to work with the Washington DC Connoisseur Travel associates. My experience began with a very pleasant phone conversation about my hopes to plan a Washington DC trip for my grandmother with Connoisseur Travel's assistance. It was followed by no communication, help, or results with airfare, hotel recommendations/bookings , or tours over a 2-week period. I contacted Connoisseur directly to notify them of the lack of service and professionalism I had experienced. They responded with apologies, detailed questions and statements about how they planned to rectify the situation, and ideas about my Washington DC trip. With reservations, I decided to give the new associate a second chance because she seemed genuinely apologetic and knowledgeable. 2 weeks later my trip had not moved forward with Connoisseur's help. I ended up booking and reserving everything on my own and the prices had gone up because of all the time that had passed. I foolishly did not reach out to any other travel companies and trusted this company to help me and they failed. The Hyatt House Sterling/Dulles needs to be totally updated. The room had dirty carpet, the bed was old and lumpy, and the a/c unit was ancient and very noisy. It does not live up to Hyatt Standards, and we will not be staying there again. Staff was nice. read more

I can't think of enough superlatives to properly review Katie Buckley's outstanding planning and execution in our travels! She is a dear person who is kind and intuitive when listening to your travel desires and restrictions. Then she is crazy efficient it setting up all that you want and need!! She has surprised us more than once with incredible hotels around the world. Plus great tours! She is always ready to assist and even rearranges issues while you are sleeping. In Auckland, we woke up to messages from Katie telling us that our flight was changed and then the new time the car would come for us and what time we would arrive in Sydney and the hotel was notified and the car was notified and would be ready for us there. We were amazed and so THANKFUL that we didn't wake up to an airline problem and then spend all morning trying to fix it!!! On our most recent trip out of Dulles airport, the plane flew out on time and in 15 min or so announced that we were turning back to land at Dulles. United kept announcing later and later flight times until we were forced to take a completely different route. United booked us but could not issue boarding passes on the American Air flight and so -- Katie to the rescue! She sent us electronic boarding passes and we sailed right through Heathrow. AND onto the terrific vacation we just experienced in Greece Thanks to Katie! Having a travel agent is wonderful in so many ways. You can cut the logistics planning and so much of the execution with a pro in your corner. She can help you realtime when issues crop up. She can work issues for you while you are enjoying dinner or a tour. It is amazing. It is well worth a call to get Katie in your corner!!!!! read more

Edited to acknowledge that they are refunding my fee which is very generous and appreciated. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I had a really disappointing experience trying to book with them. We paid our $150 fee, emailed over some of our interest based on past trips, and did multiple phone calls with Nadia and Sofie. When they got back to us with a proposal, it was at the very top end of our budget and they had us staying in resorts and hotels that didn't really appeal to us or look anything like what we had indicated we were interested in. We tried to redirect the conversation multiple times back to smaller eco-retreats and stuff like that, but they were really pushy about trying to get us into one or two specific hotels. My family and I did not stay at the Fairfield inn off of capitol road in Raleigh NC . we did not feel it was safe for a 5 day stay alone with just me and my 3 little kids. Shame on the hotel for refusing to transfer us to a safer Fairfield inn and still charging our credit card. I have been on the phone 5 times with the customer service number AND the hotel won't call me back. I need someone to speak with that can actually help me get at least some of my 730 returned . First this review is a long time coming. I used this company to plan my parents 65th wedding anniversary present to Hawaii. They have never been and it was a bucket list item for them. I worked with Karen Cooper who is very knowledgeable and ensured my 80 year old parents had the most stress free and amazing trip to all of the islands. Karen made sure everything was 5 stars and within my budget and I would highly recommend this company to anyone. The best part of the trip was when my dad called and he was standing on the balcony of his hotel and he said, "Kim I can see the ocean from my balcony and it is so beautiful, thank you so much!!" I used Connoisseur Travel to book a trip for my daughter and I out west to visit the national parks in southern Utah and then head to Disneyland, with a stop in Vegas, in a Mustang covertible. My husband and I used Connoisseur Travel and hired Lynne Manganiello as our travel agent to help us with our week long trip to Ireland. Lynne is a charm to work with! Having never been to Ireland before, we gave her a list of our top things to do, our budget, and an idea of our accommodations. Lynne totally knocked it out of the park! She planned us the most amazing itinerary to explore both the tourist and local side of Ireland, all within our budget. Once we got overseas, there was not one issue with our flights or rental car, the hotels were comfortable and accommodating, and all of the events she planned for us to do were top notch and so amazing. Lynne can adapt any vacation into what you want it to be, and if plans change (like ours did, we originally wanted to go to Iceland and Ireland but then changed our mind)... she can alter your reservations and agenda without any hassle at all, just like she did for us! Ariel Giraldi at Connoisseur Travel did an amazing job arranging a fantastic and flawless vacation in a short amount of time for my wife and I to Machu Picchu and Easter Island! This was my first time using a travel agent, and I would highly recommend Connoisseur Travel to anyone. I had a great experience with them, and plan to use them again for future trips. I basically just told Ariel where I wanted to go and the dates I wanted, and she took care of the rest. I travel internationally for work all the time and usually have to figure out my own logistics, but that was never a concern on this trip. From the time we left home to the time we returned, I never even had to think about tickets, tour guides, where to eat, how to get from point A to point B, or what hotel we were staying at. At every step of the way, there was always someone there with a sign with my name waiting to take care of my wife and I. We started in Peru - going to Lima, Cusco, Aguas Calientes, and Machu Picchu. Ariel always had private drivers and tour guides ready to go for us that were on time, extremely knowledgable, and very accommodating. The hotels were very nice, the restaurants were local and authentic (no tourist traps), and the sights were amazing. We loved the people and are pretty sure we'll be retiring in rural Peru now. Next we went on to Easter Island and had basically the same great experience. Our private tour guide took care of us for 3 days straight, knew everything about the island, and was able to set us up with tickets to a traditional native dinner and show. On our way back from Easter Island, we had a long layover in Chile and the tour guide service set us up with a winery tour just outside of Santiago. The wine was amazing and we bought a few bottles to take home with us back to the States. Again, this was my first time using a travel agency. It was an excellent decision, and I'll definitely be reaching out to Ariel again for future travel needs. read more

Shout out for Lynne Manganiello of Connoisseur Travel. We were looking for help in arranging a self-guided tour of France. Lynne came highly recommended. I contacted her with a rough outline of what we wanted to see and do and asked for her recommendations to fill in the schedule. We like to wander on our own and discover the off the beaten path sights. We flew into Paris to start our 3-week journey. From there we took trains to Lyon and Nice. We picked up a car in Nice and took the "d" roads north to the French Alps. Lynn found the perfect cozy/quirky hotels for us along the way. Far enough from the tourist crowds, but walkable to the city centers. The transportation was seamless. She arranged for the transportation to be early or late enough so as not to spend a whole day in transit. Lynn arranged some skip the line tickets, which I highly recommend. Get the earliest time available. Most attractions will let you in a bit early if you are in the first group. We also took advantage of a private tour a few times and the guides she selected were perfect for our style. We highly recommend Lynn for any travel plans you may have. read more

When it comes to travel, I do TONS of research. I always plan my own trips, create my own itineraries, and even do research so I know what kind of plane I'm flying on and can choose the best seat. I am detail oriented to the point of nearly obsessive. However, for my upcoming honeymoon to Hawaii next March I required a bit more help because we wanted to visit multiple islands- I had almost done too much research and overwhelmed myself with information! Earlier this year I contacted Sue Michailidis after coming across Connoisseur on yelp and seeing that she was one of the Hawaii "experts." Sue promptly answered my email and we scheduled a phone consultation. She was really knowledgeable about Hawaii because she lived there for a few years and gave her honest opinions about the hotels I was interested in. She also created two sample itineraries for me that were within the budget I initially sent her, which was great so I could see how my own research stacked up. During the call she didn't pressure me to book anything right away, which I appreciated. She gave good advice on where to get the most value for our dollar and happily answered all of my questions. When my fiance and I finally decided on Maui and Kauai, I had created my own spreadsheet of costs for a variety of hotel options and flights. I sent this to Sue to see if she could come in any lower and she came pretty close! I decided to book through her instead of going directly through the hotels/airlines because it allowed us to spread the cost over many months (airfare upfront, hotel payment 60 days before we travel). Otherwise, I would have had to pay the hotels in full to get the lowest rate. Additionally, I feel better knowing there is someone I can contact in case something goes wrong with the flight/hotel. It's peace of mind for a once in a lifetime trip. Anyway, when it came time to book it was super easy- just some info over the phone and we had a honeymoon plan! Sue also included a (free) lei greeting at the airport for us when we land which is really thoughtful! She also sent a list of her favorites restaurants and things to do on the islands. I am so glad that I reached out to Connoisseur Travel (for my first time) to get their expertise in booking our recent vacation to Thailand! Sue Michailidis was an absolute pleasure to work with, both leading up to as well as reminiscing of the experience once we got home. I generally do my own research and book on my own, but after this experience there will be much less of that in the future! We had zero issues with the arrangements: two-weeks full of tours, transfers, accommodations, etc. Not only did I benefit from the amount of time she saved me from trying to do all the research, but she set us up with outstanding tour operators for top-notch experiences, like the "right" elephant farm to visit to see them treated properly. After a brief phone call or two to discuss logistics, we executed the remainder of the plans via email -- very convenient and efficient! Sue was wonderful with all her recommendations. She provided us with several options at different price points which included different lengths of stay, different accommodations, and different flights. All of which is to say she totally accommodated our requests and gave us a great set of options. Once we started making decisions, she acted quickly. Logistically, everything on the trip was very smooth and we didn't have a single problem the entire time. I know I wanted to go somewhere warm with both relaxation and adventure included, but there is SO much out there and after doing research for a couple of weeks I just got plain overwhelmed. Someone recommended using a service, which I was wary of since I never have, so I looked on Yelp for help and came across Connoisseur Travel. Conclusion: This is the best travel agency EVER. Let me break it down. 1) I was having some financial difficulty and coming out a rough situation and did not want but NEEDED a vacation to recuperate. I corresponded with Beryl DeCarion, who is a travel manager, who was empathic and made it possible for me to work with them. 2) Katie Buckley was my travel agent and I cannot say enough good things about her. I must have emailed her 30-50 times and she always responded in a timely manner, and was polite, kind and so excited for me to have a good time. If I was her I would have ditched me as a client for being indecisive a long time ago, but she stood by me through the whole process. 3) Katie booked me a great deal on airfare, set up a hotel with amazing excursions (I mean come on, I am going to be snorkeling with dolphins and then partying with monkeys) and all for a reasonable price that was not far from my budget. 4) If you have any questions, please respond to this post. First off, I would recommend Connoisseur Travel to all newlyweds that want to take their honeymoon out of the country and out of their comfort zone. We chose Thailand for ours. We wanted to do something crazy and beautiful like Southeast Asia. I knew that trying to plan the honeymoon on our own would be a huge headache, so I found Connoisseur Travel through Yelp. Sue Michailidis contacted me immediately. She was so accommodating. She met and talked with us and we discussed our budget, why we wanted to explore Thailand, and what we wanted to do. She took care of everything except our flights and it was a trip of a lifetime! When we landed in Thailand, there was a tour guide right there to pick us up. We stayed about 90 minutes north of Phuket. Although we did not get perfect weather, the hotel was stunning. After 6 days of relaxing we took a plane to Chiang Mai. Transportation to and from the airport as well as airfare was included in the trip that Sue planned. Some activities included were: An Elephant camp, a day exploring the tribal villages of Chiang Mai, and a late night food tour. All of the tour guides were fantastic! We ended our trip in Bangkok.
