I like Megabus. I always get a peaceful, smooth and uneventful ride. Unlike my trips on Greyhound in the past.

My wife and I had some other 3-day weekend plans fall through, so we decided to go to Union Station to see where the buses or trains schedules would take us. We decided to go to Richmond, and we found a cheap Megabus leaving within 25 minutes from there, so we booked it. We got in the line, trudged through it, and showed our tickets to the ticketing agents. They told us that with two tickets, we would not be able to board the bus unless we purchased a third ticket for full price. What?!? Who charges full price for a lap infant? Really, who charges at all? Certainly none of the other bus lines or airlines! And then, when we went to get a refund, the ticketing office in Union Station doesn't do refunds. It says to call a number. We called and were told, "no refunds within three hours." How about, "no charge within two years?" We want a refund. $60 please. read more

The passengers are exposed to outside temperatures but not the elements. Being in Union station's bus terminal provides a safer environment than other stops on the route. However, be knowledgeable of Megabus' policies (minors riding alone, refunds, and rescheduling especially) or you'll be out of your payment with no trip. read more

This is not a great service. We have taken Deluxe bus several times and decided to take this bus simply because the departure time. The bus was in poor condition and even though they said it had wifi the wifi was not accessible on the entire ride. Additionally the bus was oversold and over crowded. The seats were not comfortable at all and the bus driver while trying to be amusing was quite rude to passengers. We have a return to on this bus but it will be the last time I take it. If you don't mind being oversold and poor conditions and rude service then give it a try. If you expect any kind of service for your $ go with another bus. The bathroom was filthy with no toilet paper and there weren't any trash bags or anywhere on the bus to throw away your trash which promoted more filth. Do yourself a favor and go with another service. read more

Usually when I ride Go Bus as standby and already have a ticket, they don't charge a surcharge. The guy at megabus demanded $5 surcharge to get a slightly earlier bus. Cash only. However the drivers are top notch and courteous. Very professional. They sound like airline pilots. And are very safe too read more

I wish it were possible to give 0 stars.. I'm so over megabus. I have travelled with them at least 50 times and I haven't had one relatively decent experience. Whenever there is a delay, no one ever says anything. The employees are rude and short with you, don't care about your time in any way, and the buses are typically awful. Half of them don't actually connect to wifi, have outlets (and when they do, they don't work), and the bathrooms are always repulsive. So in summary: I will solely be taking the train or just not not be traveling.... read more

Round trip to and from New York. 1) DC to New York - Booked a 7am ride, left around that time, expected to arrive at 11:30am. Actual arrival time was 12PM, which was not bad. Bathroom good, seats good, AC good, overall ride was good. 2) New York to DC - Booked 11:25am ride, left at 11:40am, expected to arrive at 3:40pm. Actual arrival time was 5:30pm. The service was unpleasant, and the people there were rude and unorganized, and times were delayed due to heavy traffic. As a first time Megabus customer, I thought it was pretty good. For word of advice, best to book a ride early in the morning to avoid any delays. Will most likely ride again. Book early for cheaper prices. read more

I wish I could give Megabus 0 stars. Our driver was rude, disrespectful, UNSAFE and plenty more. Megabus customer service is a waste of time. They will give you the run around, no call backs or follow ups like their emails say. MEGABUS DOES NOT care and won't help you when you have problems with their drivers or while riding a Megabus. Choose a SAFER ride and stay away from Megabus. read more

DO NOT RIDE THE MEGABUS!!! My daughter boarded the Megabus in Washington DC at 11:00 pm expecting to arrive in Charlotte at 7:00 am the following day. At 4:00 am the bus breaks down. The passengers had to wait on the bus for SIX HOURS before a charter bus picked the passengers up. A bus ride that was scheduled to be eight hours long turned out to be FOURTEEN HOURS!! Do not be fooled by the shiny new appearance of the megabuses or their low ticket prices. These buses are not being maintained nor does Megabus have a system in dealing with broken down buses. read more

On two out of four trips from DC to Durham NC the bus overheated and had to be either replaced or repaired. One incident led to a 2.45 hour delay. It was never clear from Megabus messages how the problem would be addressed. It was a faulty engine, with the hose connecting hydraulic fluid for engine cooling popping off its attachment. Overheating is a common problem with this bus line. About a year ago a bus caught fire. IN ADDITION, MEGABUS REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE FULL AMOUNT OF MY TICKET, INSTEAD OFFERING less than half the value. In essence Megabus is keeping the bulk of my money for a service they did not provide. THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING MEGABUS IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY. read more

If I could give a 0, then I would. First, I purchased a "round trip " ticket from DC to NYC. I clicked on the option for round trip. When purchasing a round trip ticket, you first select your first trip. In my case it was DC to NYC. I selected this option, then it automatically advanced for me to select my return trip; which was from NYC to DC. When I checked out, their website froze then routed me back to my basket to "purchase" my tickets. I checked my credit card online portal to make sure I wasn't charged so I resubmitted it. This time, it went through. When I got to the bus terminal for my trip, I learned that the computer generated two sets of one-way tickets from NYC to DC. I was forced to wait and check on last and then PAY A $5 CHANGE FEE FOR EACH TICKET! Moving forward, the bus driver attempted to force my daughter to load her under the seat carryon bag that contained her medication she needed. After a couple of rounds of "no, your policy allows and under the seat carryon on the bus" the driver then says, we'll get on the bus and hurry up! REALLY?! So it's also acceptable to be rude? I have other options; I was just trying to be cheap. read more

Never ride with mega. Before I booked , I was told I could change the time anytime I wanted. Then , 10 minutes later , I called to change the time and they had to do the whole booking again and I had $39 credit remaining . She told me I have to use it for another booking or il loose my 39 of course I told her I want the 39 to bank account and she told me unfortunately no, either I use it for another booking or loose my 39. That made me so fucking angry because they told me nothing bought been charged for changing the time of my booking and I was never told that my remaining credit was non refundable. If they had told me , I would not have made any booking unless I was 100 % sure . So I lost $39 for their own mistake . Secondly the bus was soo packed that you can't hardly stretch your legs and everyone was exhausted especially we were in the bus for hours. the driver didn't even took us at a rest stop for at least 10 minutes. I would not recommend mega to anyone. Please take greyhound or other bus services read more

If it wasn't for me already paying for my bus trip back to ny I would never take this bus again. So this is the first time in about 3 years that I've taken this bus and I see a lot has changed. So after pulling into DC at 6:45 am I had to wait 4 hours for the Richmond bus so I get one line a hour before the bus to only get on the bus and have to set in the regular seats which was crazy to me if your ass can't make to the bus out time why you get the front seat. So than I ask will what about other nice seats the chick says no you have to set over there even if NO ONE sets in theses seats. Now if that's not one of the fool things is Megabus came up with a way to make more money off of people will charge 20 more dollars if you want to set in theses front row seats so I say FUCK YOU MEGABUS read more

Satan, as he sat on his throne overlooking the bowels of hell, emitted a mighty yell and said, "Let there be Megabus." Do not take this bus. They were the only affordable bus to take you to Hampton, Va in DC, but they are so rude and scam-y that I will now pay the extra money for Greyhound. 1. The buses are too cramp and the A/C blows out hot air. Also, they turn off the useless A/C when they get to other stops and take their sweet ass time putting it back on. They will take their sweet ass time because they have your money( I will get back to this concept later.) 2. They say the offer chargers but you only get one and have to climb over the person next to the window to get to it. 3.Their buses are never on time. Good thing this bus full of people have no love ones to see or events to arrive at the time the bus stated! 4. YOu have to pay extra to seat at a decent sit on the bus. This bus is already a sardine can, but now I have to pay almost $5-$10 extra for leg room in the front?! It used to be free, but now they have found a way to bleed you twice as hard. 5. You will NEVER get your money back NOT EVEN FOR CREDIT FOR THEIR OWN BUS. I lost my money twice from them before. The first time I planned to go see my best friend graduate, but then I had to have an interview that Monday when I would be coming back on the bus. I was recent graduate and had to take the opportunity, so I had to cancel my trip. The customer representative said she couldn't do anything since I was locked out of the system after 24 hours prior to my trip. She said if I called earlier I could have gotten my money back or credit. Ridiculous, but I accepted it and moved on. The second time, a friend offered to drive me back home from VA and I accepted because who the fuck would want to be stuffed in the tight, pissy smelling coffin-esque bus? I called the rep asking for my Money and she said ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS...okay... I then asked for credit, and that there was ABSOLUTLEY NO CREDIT on your trip...fuck no. She said I had to in the NEXT 24 HOURS a trip (booking fee an additional 6 dollars) or I FORFEIT MY MONEY. Are you kidding me?! Just give me credit! You already have my money! I have a job how the hell am I suppose to plan trips. I wanted to book at on Dec. 31st 2014 and adjust throughout, but you can only book 45 days in advance, so that meant countless booking and countless booking fees. The Representative was always very rude and tasteless. She talked over me countless times and told me I couldn't talk to a manager because IT DID NOT ESCALATE TO THAT. Well, bitch, you just lost a customer and I hope no one ever takes this filthy, scam-y, pissy, hot, cheap bus ever again. Please just pay th emoney and take Greyhound. The most unbelievable thing just happened. I was in the process of catching a bus from DC to philadelphia. My wife and I were not sure which bus to go to, and where to get in line. I walked up to 2 megabus employees standing next to a bus talking to each other, I said "excuse me sir I have question", I was ignored, again "I asked excuse me which bus to philadelphia?" Nothing and was ignored and he began to walk away from me, again I said "excuse me I just need to know where to go wait" no answer and the two continued their conversations as if I did not exist. I was literally right next to them, not even 1 foot away. Finally in frustration I walked away and said "Jesus Christ, I am just trying to get an answer to my question". Apparently that got their attention. The two chased me down as my wife and I were walking away looking for someone else to help us. Keep on reading it gets better I promise. They accused me of cussing them and verbally abusing them!!!! Then they went and got a security guard and were telling the security guard that I was cussing them out. Not a single cuss word left my mouth, and I certainly did not verbally abuse them. The security lady gave me a lecture not to cuss and that the drivers don't know where the lines are and who's going where (apparently I was attempting to speak to a driver) the irony is that it turns out the driver I was attempting to speak to was the driver driving to Philly. I told her that if he doesn't know that's fine, just tell me that you don't know, don't ignore a customer's question and then lie that they cussed you out. I stopped pleading my case when he (the driver) and the security guard threatened that he won't let me on his bus because I'm a threat. It was a total work of art. Everything they orchestrated together was impressive. The driver driving to Philly didn't know which bus he was driving and didn't know where the line is and thought it's ok for him to ignore a customer asking him a simple question that he clearly knew the answer to and then proceeded to lie and accuse me of cussing. Megabus, you've definitely exceeded a first time customer's experience with rude, unprofessional staff. I've taken Greyhound and Bolt many times before and their drivers actually don't ignore customers, lie about their actions and threaten not to allow them on the bus, they actually politely reply, both, when they know and don't know the answer. I hope this keeps people from making the mistake I made in riding megabus. read more

I decided to be cheap today and take the Megabus from DC to New York for the first time. Big mistake. I bought a ticket to leave at 3pm and even got there early enough to see if I can hop on a 2:30 bus since there were more seats. The driver requested $5. No thanks, I'll wait for my 3:00 bus. Bolt Bus and other bus companies would've allowed it, without any extra fees. The main reason why I stopped taking the Chinese buses years ago other than diminishing quality of service was due to the series of unexpected stops to pick up more passengers. Guess what? Mega Bus stopped at White Marsh, Baltimore though my ticket clearly says only from DC to New York. There goes my extra leg room and 10 minutes of my time in addition to the extra 15 minutes it took for the bus to leave Union Station (were scheduled to leave at 3, but left at 3:15 because the driver was too slow in boarding the passengers). Bolt Bus may not always leave on time, but they never make extra stops in Baltimore or any other town at all. Bolt is committed to where its suppose to stop besides rest stops, but that's it. Another downside is that there are no overhead compartments to rest my luggage (luckily, I was able to fit my bag under my seat without any problems). I'm only halfway to New York now and already my experience with Mega Bus had took a sharp left. Even with the brief traffic we ran into, we should've been only an hour and a half away to NY by now, not two and a half. Never again I'll waste my money of this double decker crap even though it was only $12. read more

I never thought megabus delays were a big deal - things happen, trips can be delayed, I will be patient. But for our trip this afternoon we were told via inaudible announcement (everyone was very confused and most didn't hear at all) that the bus was going to be delayed - no further explanation, nothing. Half an hour later than supposed departure time, we received an email letting us know that our trip will be delayed ~1 hour. Are you kidding!!! What is the point of letting us know that our trip will be late when we've been in line for half an hour with no bus in front of us! Absolutely no effort on the company's part to communicate clearly with its customers - it's rude, really. Had we been told in advance that our bus will be coming late (instead of half an hour after when we were supposed to leave!!!), I would have at least been able to properly sit down and eat dinner instead of grabbing it to-go. read more

I reserved a bus from Washington DC at 2 AM, with a scheduled arrival in NY at 7:20 AM. I arrived in DC at 1:08 AM, so I was in line with the bus that would be traveling outbound to NY arrived before 1:40 AM. The outbound driver, however, did not start his safety check until 1:51 AM. I asked him "will we still be on time?" He said he didn't know - before the trip even began. It was 2:12 AM when we pulled out of Union Station (in DC.) Subsequent stops were in Baltimore and Philadelphia. One of the people in Philadelphia mentioned the bus was 15 minutes late. After the passengers boarded, the driver stood outside on his phone for another 10 minutes. The trip continued until 6:58 AM, when we pulled into a gas station in New Jersey for a driver switch. The driver announced we were "early" for the switch although we were still 90 minutes from our NY destination. We actually had to wait 15 more minutes for the other driver to show. My appointment in NY - for which I included a 40 minute buffer - was cancelled after we arrived an hour and twenty minutes late. The delay was exacerbated by the driver's complete disregard for our schedule. By starting off late, he pushed us into the midst of rush hour congestion. MegaBus accepts zero responsibility. I had to keep calling them for the next two hours until they could get a status for the bus. Once I finally reached someone, they had the audacity to claim there was only a 12-minute delay and they have NO responsibility for "operational delays" caused by their driver. Unacceptable and outright lies. read more

I just returned from my nightmarish experience with Megabus last night. Now, I've experienced low cost carriers before - I've ridden on my share of Chinatown buses so I expected a more grander experience with Megabus but received the exact opposite. My ride to New York was pleasant - the bus seemed a bit dated but there were outlets available to charge my phone and the employees directed us to the appropriate areas and provided adequate direction. The only con I would note is the dated bus, limited leg room and not so clean bathroom. My return to DC was another story. Our rallying point was the Javitz center which is in the middle of nowhere- a rare occurrence in NYC- and the closet restaurant is McDonalds. Unfortunately for us, our return was delayed by 40 minutes because of an accident and while Megabus sent an employee out to explain the situation, he was able to return to his warm car after he made the announcement. We were forced to stand outside - no chairs (waiting rooms be damned) in freezing temperatures for 40 minutes until our bus arrived. No apologies from the staff for the inconvenience, just subpar service. Once we boarded, we were greeted by another dated bus but this time we reserved table seats so we were forced to awkwardly face strangers for the duration of our trip. So if you're comfortable potentially standing for hours outside waiting for your transportation with limited interactions with staff or few status updates, then this bus company is for you but I'm going elsewhere where my odds for improved customer service are greater. read more

Of all the bad bus lines, this one is the worst. Buses are constantly late and/or broken, lines are clusters of people with no signs posted to tell customers which line is which, and staff just stands around and doesn't provide updates when buses are delayed/broken. Terrible. Just took a 2 day trip down to Washington,DC from NYC. Ride down was fine, everything went smoothly. Ride back left on time (2.30pm) only it took an extra 2 hours for us to eventually arrive at our destination. The scheduled arrival time was 7.10pm. A 4hr 40min trip was what we signed up for. 4 hours and 20mins into the trip and we were running behind due to traffic. Understandable. Only we then pulled into an abandoned gas station (with not access to food or water) where we sat for the following hour and a half waiting for the "replacement driver" as the current one has a 4 hour driving limit. Again, finethat they swap over - only not fine that the replacement driver did not arrive for an hour and a half while we who paid for this 4 hr 40 min trip stood around on the side of the highway with no information about when we would be taking off again, when the driver would arrive, if the driver would arrive, when we would get home etc. We eventually arrived in NYC at 9pm. Making it a 6.5 hr trip. Which we would definitely not have booked had that been expressed honestly on the website. We were also told by the driver that THIS HAPPENS EVERY FRIDAY!!! on the trip from DC to New York. Disgusting misrepresentation, theft (in my opinion), and poor customer service. Beware of Megabus cancellation policy. I had reservation to travel from Washington DC to Toronto, Ontario on Saturday May 23 2015 departing at 6:20 PM. I become ill and was not able to travel the day of my reservation. I tried to cancel/trade the ticket about 30 hours prior to the departure following the instruction on Mega bus web site but I was instructed to return 24 hours prior to departure. I returned to the web site exactly 24 hours prior to departure time at 6:20 PM and by time I went through the process to reach the reservation detail page it passed the departure time by 3 minutes. The page did not provide a link to trade the ticket. I tried the process over 10 times with the same results. I called Mega bus costumer service 1 hour passed the 24 hours before the departure time and they told me that because it is passed the 24 hours period even slightly they cannot override the system and directed me to write this email. Mega bus sent me an email refusing to even credit my ticket for future travel. They have a deceiving rescheduling/cancellation policy and they do not intend to honor it. This is ridiculous. What is this exactly 24-hour prior to departure for rescheduling /cancelation/trade policy when they don't allow to cancel more than 24 hours prior to departure and the setup their web site so even i minute past the 24 hour prior to departure it won't let you process the cancelation. I recommend paying a few dollars more and going with an established bus company like Greyhound. at least you know the buses stay on schedule, they have honest refund policy, they do not have the extra charge game for so called premium seats, their drivers are professional and trained, and above all their safely record by far beats mega bus. Megabus, transporting corpses since 1998! I recently took a Megabus round trip from Washington DC to Christianburg. On the first trip, I sat in the back of the bus on the second floor for more leg room. However temperature dropped to 50 degrees if not less. I had to wear gloves, a hat, and a jacket so I wouldn't freeze to death. It was the most uncomfortable ride ever. Because of this, I got sick the following day and stayed sick during my entire vacation, I am still sick today. Additionally, their was no power to the outlets on the back of the bus on the second floor, I couldn't charge my phone and other devices. A few of us told the driver about both of these issues and he told us "there is nothing he can do." This is not acceptable, people were freezing upstairs and it was some sort of torture. Lastly, the location where the Megabus stop in Christianburg, the address provided doesn't work. Three of us waiting at the stop had our ride pick us up 5 minutes from the actually location because the exact address was wrong. We had to figure out at 2:30am in the morning where exactly is this parking lot we were left stranded. On the return trip, not only was I sick, it was equally freezing in the bus. I had no choice where I wanted to sit because the bus was relatively full. By talking to other people, I heard this is a re-occurring event and it is unacceptable that Megabus hasn't done anything to fix this. read more

Never again on Megabus. I have taken other buses from DC to NYC, including Bolt, DC2NY, Vamoose, and been satisfied by all of them. But this last trip on Megabus was awful. The seats were uncomfortable, but the worst part was the one-hour delay in each direction caused by the driver running out of allowable driving hours. You would think that Megabus could plan for that and assign a driver with enough available hours, or even have a protocol by which the driver calls ahead to warn that he is running out of time so a replacement would be waiting on the road. But no, in both directions the driver waited until he was out of hours, pulled the bus over into a rest area, and called for a replacement. We had to sit there for an hour, locked into the bus (we were told we could not leave the bus) waiting for his replacement to arrive. One of the passengers was frantic, crying and begging the driver to let him out of the bus so he could be picked up by a friend and get to his train on time. Never again on Megabus. read more

I decided to use megabus because Boltbus sold out and I really needed to go to NY! Needless to say, that was the WORST trip I have ever experienced! Not only was the bus late leaving in both directions, on the way back to DC, the AC of the bus was not working. Fine it happens but it seemed very fishy that the driver kept wanting to stop every half hour to check it! Did not like that! Mid way through the highway, the roof hatchet just slams open, freaking out everyone on the top section! No one ever came up to even check what was going on for that. Once we arrived to DC, the bus just shut off in the middle of a red light, just because! Entering Union Station, the driver just happened to notice that the sign for roof hatchet was open and said that he couldn't enter the clearance area because he didn't realize it was open! How irresponsible!? Then, we go all the way around the station to re enter the bus section and the bus turns off again going up the hill! At this point, everyone was frustrated and wanted to get out! Not to mention the bus arrived to DC 1.5 hours late! NEVER AGAIN! Bolt bus all the way!!! read more

That fare may look good, but Don't Do It! This company left my teenaged daughter's bus stranded a half hour outside of NYC (the destination from Boston) because the driver said she had driven too long. Literally left a full bus load of people at a gas station rest stop in the middle of the freeway and told them to find an uber. Traffic was not unusually heavy that night so why did they even allow her to start driving from Boston if she could only drive for 3 1/2 hours? A back up bus showed up at the rest stop an hour and a half later but most people had found ubers by then. The company offered a $2.50 reimbursement on a $12 fare. The uber cost $25.
