I've driven by this totally nondescript eatery on an almost daily basis for the past year and a half, and I wish I would've actually gone inside about 18 months ago!!!
What finally sold me?
The picture of the baked potato in the window...of all things!! I was searching for something different for lunch one day, and was literally just driving around in circles until something jumped out at me. After nothing did, I figured I'd get some so-so orange chicken from the Chinese place in the same center as Mega Subs.
Luckily for me, the only parking space available was right in front of the Mega Subs window! Maybe because I was feeling adventerous, or maybe because the thought of day-old orange chicken just wasn't doing it for me, but whatever the reason, I actually stopped and looked at the menu and pictures posted in the windows.
Immediately I saw the picture of the Mega Baked Potato and thought, "That sounds just like the something different I'm looking for!" So I went in and found that there were a few different baked potatoes to choose from! I went with the Ace Potato. The Ace Potato has your choice of beef, chicken, or ham, with grilled onions and cheddar cheese sauce! Yes..I said it!! CHEDDAR CHEESE SAUCE!!!
Also, since I'm a big fan of onion rings, I figured I'd give Mega Subs' rings a shot. Again, I was NOT disappointed!!
The potato was so flavorful and moist and cooked just perfectly!! The steak was not over cooked, or dry, or rubbery for that matter. And I think they put butter on the potato because the whole thing was just super moist and fluffy! Not dry at all.
Now the onion rings are my favorite part! They give you a pretty sized serving and they don't skimp on the ranch dressing either! But the dang onion rings were literally the BEST onion rings I've ever had...in....my...life. I'm going to guess they are beer battered, or some other kind of pancake-y-ish batter...almost like a corn dog...and then they are deep fried to the most perfectly golden brown, crispy (not crunchy) texture! The onion itself is cooked to the right state of softness, without being hard or mushy. Just writing this right now is making my mouth water for those rings!!!
The sandwhiches look very well put together, though I've yet to try one. The menu is pretty extensive as well! They serve breakfast, coffee, smoothies, juice, burritos, burgers, etc., etc.!!
As soon as I returned to work with my Ace Potato, and started digging in, my co-workers commented about how GOOD it smelled!! The next day, I went back and picked up two Mega Potatoes for them, and another round of onion rings and an Ace Potato for me!!
Needless to say, we've only just begun exploring the food here!! And I think it's safe to say that we intend on trying everything at least once!! read more
