Mega Mart takes over the old Sprouts (and Barnes & Noble before that) location in Fremont Plaza in Fremont. I learned that Mega Mart was grand opening their 3rd U.S. location on Friday 9/23. However, they had a Soft Opening on 9/21 and 9/22. I decided to check it out on 9/22. The parking lot had plenty of empty spaces. The market itself was only partially filled with customers. The shelves were still being filled. Lots of space to move around and very clean. There were lots of grab and go hot food items. I will be back to explore the place. read more

Ultimately, I've very happy to see this type of supermarket here. I will have to come back when the hype has gone down because the line was kind of ridiculous during their grand opening. Parking still sucks, probably will be worse now that more people will be coming. Please be safer driving down the lanes and watch when you're walking. People seem to just not care much about safety. Setup is pretty similar to the old Sprouts there. There's plenty of options, in my opinion. Saw some vegan kimchi. So much sprouts. I'll have to come back to try the different meat options. They were pretty clean and am really hoping they stay this way. I really don't want to it get all dirty like some of the other asian markets in the area. read more

Good ol' Mega Mart. This market is our go-to whenever we want to buy some meats for KBBQ night at home. This market has a little bit of everything. All the grocery related things: fresh produce, seafoods, meats, frozen foods, snacks, and drinks. They also have household items like pots and pans, plates/dishes, Tupperware, etc. A fan of Korean skincare? They've got that too! They often have deals and specials so you can usually score great prices on meats (both frozen and fresh). We love picking up the marinated beef bulgogi, brisket, and pork belly. I'll sometimes treat myself to their bulk snacks like their banana chips and coffee peanuts. Sometimes their bakery will have Korean corn dogs and tanghulu, which I have yet to try. Anyways, it's a pretty large market and I've never had any issues with my experiences here. Sometimes they run out of the snacks I'm looking for but it's no big deal. I'll keep coming back to get my KBBQ fix here! read more

It's smaller than other comparable Korean and Japanese markets but more than sufficient for a neighborhood store. As expected, the meat varieties are less but has most of the basics: kalbi, sliced beef, chicken, pork, etc. The veggie section is also smaller. I liked the food area where you can pick up bento boxes or prepacked rice plates with unagi, kalbi, bbq beef, etc... The bakery offered the usual pastries as well as interesting Korean hotdogs and mozzarella dogs. At the front there were also some individually packed breads and pastries. I tried some of the pastries and thought they were credible. The bread tasted relatively fresh. read more

Very happy to see this supermarket in the neighborhood. I didn't realized that last Friday was the grand opening as I heard from a coworker that the supermarket opened and went the same day I was told of the news. I got there at 8pm and many shelves were empty. That's a good sign when there's grand opening but I hope they restock so I can see what hot food items and premade sushi boxes are available. They were nice to gift a reuseable shopping bag on the first day. Very big and versatile and good marketing way with their store name imprinted on the bag. I went again on Sunday as I wanted some hamachi collars I saw they had on Friday night but didn't think to pick it up assuming I can get it during my next visit. I regret not getting it when I saw it because there were no hamachi collars left on Sunday. I noticed they did restock and there were more premade sushi boxes this time and some hot items left along with more desserts then on Friday when I went. Overall, I'm very happy this market opened. They pretty much kept the same structure as the Sprouts before. I will be shopping here again and again and hope to see fresh vegetables and seafood here. read more

Mega Mart, a Korean supermarket, has moved into the space where Sprouts was. There's a little bit of everything here: health and beauty, few household items, frozen foods, meats, seafoods, veggies, prepared meals, sushi, and baked goods. I'm a big fan of Bibigo items, so I was happy to find items I hadn't seen before (like Bibigo soup dumplings-yummy). There's also a huge variety of kimchi. I also found Korean sweet potato glass noodles, which I haven't been able to find in other Asian markets in the area. There's a huge variety of meats that I haven't seen at other Asian markets, like huge tomahawk steaks. The prepared meals at the front of the store all looked really good. There's also lots of tempting baked items, like buns, cookies, cakes, and pastries. We tried a few cookies and buns, and they were pretty good. They weren't as sweet as American baked items. Overall, the place was neat and well organized, and a nice addition to Fremont. read more

This was our first time visiting this supermarket and we really enjoyed browsing around :) There is a lot of variety of items, ranging from bakery to meats to frozen foods. My daughter wanted to try out the cheese tteokbokki that they have in the refrigerated area and it was really good! They also have a houseware section as well as a beauty/skincare section that had in innisfree products. The only downside was that they didn't have any bulgogi available when we were there. read more

This was my first visit, I didn't know what type of market Mega Mart was until I yelped the photos. I love Korean markets, because my family loves to eat yellow croakers. I bought a big box of croakers and a couple of packs of hamachi Kama, which is the neck collarbone of the hamachi fish, broiled with salt n pepper and dipped into yuzu sauce, makes it the most delicious dish to nibble on. Tons of selections on hot food and that fresh bakery is yummy! read more

I love MegaMart, it's nicely located in a plaza with plenty of parking. The hot & ready prepped foods are great. The bakery seems to have different things too every time i've gone so far. This is the place I like to go to when picking up items for hotpot or shabu. They also do catering! Really convenient for parties! read more

I was pretty excited to visit because Mega Mart was one of the closest Korean supermarkets around (minus Manna, the family owned Korean store right around the corner). Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed by what I saw. The store occupies a pretty large space, but the layout doesn't make it feel that way. I found myself constantly mentioning how small the store was - but upon reflection, I think I was more describing the variety of produce and merchandise vs the actual size of the store. There's vegetables and a food station, but the variety is extremely limited and unfortunately didn't look very appetizing. The desserts and pastries were cute, but some of the displays were deflated and collapsed (ex: a cheesecake, not pictured). What really caught me off guard was the lack of knowledge by a majority of the staff. Everybody was very friendly, but I noticed multiple instances of shoppers asking where items were and being met with confused stares. They weren't complicated questions, either - just things like where the soup bases were. Overall, this is a good place to grab a quick bite or some snacks, but I wouldn't come here for comprehensive grocery shopping since their fresh produce and meat were severely lacking. I hope this changes in the future as they continue to grow! read more

This store definitely improved since it first opened. I remembered it was pretty spacious and didn't have everything. It was too big for its size. However the store has come a long way since then. Maybe they listened to the feedback and worked on it because when I visited it recently, it was stocked well and has a lot of things to buy. It's not H-Mart but for something nearby, it's good enough and great for when I want to get some good kimchi and other Korean items. read more

What a cool place to shop for all of your Korean cultured needs. This is a huge store the size of a trade joes that has everything you could ever ask for! The prices and quality are amazing and the service throughout the store is friendly, helpful, and positive. Ned soju? They have it! Need snacks? OMG they have TONS of them! Fresh meat and seafood - best I've seen anywhere! And produce? You can't find fresher anywhere either! I wished I had more time to shop here before I came home but I can't wait to go there again! read more

Mega Mart is the newest Korean grocery store in Central Fremont! The store is set up in an old Sprouts and still has aisles reminiscent of that. They have a bakery that sells fun desserts and pastries. The whipped bun was very light and a bit fluffy, and it was great to enjoy as a snack. They also have pre-made food kept warm to the left of the bakery. I got the salmon teriyaki with rice bowl, which wasn't as tasty as I would want it to be. Although it came with extra teriyaki sauce, it still tasted a bit bland. The bowl itself was very simple, only having the seasoned salmon and rice itself. This is definitely more for people who just want to buy a warm meal on-the-go. I thought there would be more promotions since the store had its grand opening this week, but I didn't see any. They're also working to fill the aisles, so I will definitely return in a month to see how much they've improved! read more

Good place for Asian products, but avoid the grab and go ready to eat sushi rolls and sashimi. After a few attempts at getting a decent meal, the quality of their fish is outright awful. I know grocery store quality rolls and sashimi, so not expecting them to win any award, but they simply don't deserve people to buy this food. This is the last time I spit out food because of the fish quality. I would rather have 1/2 the amount of fish if they're using sushi grade fish. If I was rating the food counter I'd give them 1 star, but giving 3 stars because the rest of the store is ok. For grab n go rolls or sashimi, so to Whole Foods. Even Raileys is much better. read more

This store is very neat and well kept up. It's great in a pinch if your nearby however the prices may be a little higher here for the same items you could get cheaper at one of the Ranch Supermarkets. You will find frozen seafood scattered about. The fruits and vegetables looked ok. There are some meats on hand albeit in limited quantities. You should not have any problem finding the basic items you need here. read more

I Think this is a great addition to the neighborhood. Cleaner & brighter than many of the other Asian grocery stores. Pricier than sat, Trader Joe's, but cheaper than Whole Foods. Plentiful parking. I didn't shop produce but got delicious pork & kimchee steamed buns, and salmon on rice from hot deli. I love the Kim bop & chapchae from family owned Manna at the other end of this mall so didn't get that here. I liked the gift items & awesome housewares sections here. Also lots of snacks & beverages. Bakery looked good as did cakes & stuff like Korean corn dogs but will have to try next time. The frozen dumpling section is incredible- I'm a huge bibigo fan. read more

A very nice Korean market that has hot food and a variety of everything. The workers were very pleasant and when I asked for some fresh Kimbap, they were not hesitant to stop what they were doing to help me. Their fruits and vegetables looked very fresh. A bit on the pricier side from the Asian grocery stores I'm used to, but looked fresh. There's an abundance of frozen items, from baby crab to dumplings and oodles of noodles to choose from. Lots of drink choices as well. My favorite area was the fresh seafood area that has Ikura, a variety of Tobiko and sashimi grade seafood (salmon, Tuna, other fish). They even have fresh Uni and some jarred Uni for sauces. Yummy! read more

Respectable Korean grocery store in Fremont. I liked the mix of available products, and some of their prices are better than Koreana Plaza Market in Oakland (my go-to). However, the kimchi they sell in big tubs was just so-so. read more

This Korean grocery store is so-so. There are better places to buy fresh kimchi. And they don't have brown sweet rice at all. The other reason I knocked off a star, is that the owner (?) who sometimes works the register is not very friendly. Seems to me that during persimmon season they would have Kaki but they don't sell that either. read more

Lines are short and fast. The store is smaller, making for efficient shopping. Kpop songs make you step into little Korea. The fresh seafood direct from Busan/Jeju is a great offering you can't find elsewhere (these are some of the cleaner waters in Asia). The ready-made foods are a must and all the soups taste great with no effort (just reheat). After 7pm some of the ready-made foods go on sale for 30-50% off. I pick up juicy Korean pears and Asian veggies and organic tofu (they have a nice selection) from here as well. Unfortunately they don't label their fruits/veggies as organic or not, but they have excellent tofu and seafood selection. I've also picked up a heated sleeping mat (made in Korea) for my mom's visit. read more

Finally got the opportunity to set foot in this gem. Store is pretty decent size. Lots of interesting goodies. I wish they had a bigger selection for the fruits. Other than that, nothing too special. But it's a great place to stop by for your lunch because they offer a variety of hot foods ready to grab. read more

I was super excited that Fremont finally got a Korean supermarket. Hated driving all the way out to H-Mart or Hankook just for a few things. This place is OKAY. The selection is not that great. I was really disappointed in their selection of produce and grocery items. They have a sucky selection of kimchi, which is super annoying. I expect at least 3 aisles of kimchi, MINIMUM. You have to pick and choose. One thing that bothers me is that most of their bakery items do not contain a list of ingredients. If you have any food allergies, it would be best to avoid buying. Their small cake slices are outrageously priced. $4.50 for a sliver of Japanese cheesecake?! I'd rather drive out to Santa Clara and buy an Uncle Tetsu cheesecake for $14. My favorite things I like to buy are: Japchae - I've had better, but this is decent, and it lasts me 3 days. Good for a quick side for lunch or dinner. I like that it doesn't contain any meat. Egg salad sandwiches - 3 for $6. They are super filling and always taste really fresh. Great for lunch. Savory roll - it has bell peppers and onions. It tastes better if you take it apart and bake it in the toaster oven. Love eating this for breakfast. Chestnut bread - I didn't see any reviews mentioning this bread! It is sooooo good, and even better toasted. They put big chunks of chestnuts in it, and it's totally worth the $4.50 price tag. I don't know if it's a seasonal item! I hope it stays forever. Satsuma - these were pretty good. Sweet and tart at the same time. I hope they have them again. Chestnuts - I'm sure they're seasonal, but they are the biggest ones I've come across during the holiday season. A great price as well! Baby bok choy - I eat this like every damn day with either soup, steamed, over rice, or pan-fried. It's super cheap and always really fresh. The freshest out of all the markets around me. Carrots - I swear, they have the thickest and girthiest carrots I've ever seen in a market. They're surprisingly sweet! I buy 2 a week and they last a few days. Broccoli - always beautiful crowns, so fresh and green. Green onions - the cheapest and best-looking green onions out of all the grocery stores. read more

The rice in the kimbap was too wet. Otherwise it's an ok store. Selection of soy sauce was small. Produce and vegetable section was weirdly located flanking the hot food and and bakery. Not many jars of kimchi today. read more

This new location compared to Sunnyvale didn't dazzle me. I remember Sprouts used to be located here, so it was kind of unusual how the store didn't seem to have as much products as Sunnyvale, the layout still resembled Sprouts in a way. Maybe Mega Mart can expand the store? Parking lot is average size, and you can find a spot assuming that it's not during peak hours. The supermarket is really clean and organized, just needs more goods to offer. read more

Like many, I was very excited that Mega Mart settled into Fremont. I've stopped by a handful of times since their grand opening and I have to admit it is a bit underwhelming despite the name. It took over Sprout's old spot at Fremont Plaza with fair amount of parking available. It's pretty spacious, organized, and clean inside. Prices vary where you can find some steals, but most of the time prices are not comparable to other Korean markets in the bay. I was also disappointed by the lack of Korean items and ingredients, as they do market themselves as a Korean market. With that said, I do see myself continuing to stop by every now and then whenever I need last minute things, but I will save most of my Korean groceries for the Korean markets in the South Bay. read more

For a market that isn't a big as I would've expected, it has a bit everything that I would want from a Korean market - a good one stop shop for everything. Parking isn't all too difficult here, that does make it a bit less of a hassle. The selection of produces and such are much less than I'm use to seeing of Asian markets. There's a great deal for sweet potatoes and such, but as for regular red potatoes... it was very old that I couldn't pick any out. Looks to be a hit or miss as for freshness. As for the food that's available at the grab n go area: they have a basic banchan, kimbap and such. There's also a warmer area for rice bowls and other food that's quick to grab. I'm happy that there's some sushi/sashimi options - will have to try next time to see how fresh it is. I do appreciate a selection of basic cleaning products and face masks (Innisfree, Nature Republic and etc.) that's available there as well as feminine products that are of a good variety. Definitely would be something I'd be back for as prices are of what I'd normally see as well (no huge markups for convenience). Final Thoughts: Good place to restock on Korean goods needed, but not the best to explore for a variety. read more

Replaced Sprout's. Now a Korean grocery store, but nowhere as the same level as H Mart. Actually upon walking in, you may not even notice a change of business, the overall layout is the same, just changed out everything on the shelves basically. I'll start with the good. Anything dry and packaged they are well-represented. Dried seaweed, pantry spices/sauces, Korean snacks etc... If you need any gochujang the Korean red pepper paste, they've got more than you'll ever need. They also got a refrigerated case or 2 for kimchi. This is what I may use them for mostly. The produce looked good, but most things are wrapped in plastic which I don't really care for. I did walk away with some mushrooms as they have a decent selection and even better pricing, better than 99 Ranch which is the giant Asian grocery for the suburbs. The meat selection was meh, didn't see anything that pulled me. There were a lot of choices if you like meats thinly sliced, which does nothing for me really. I went after 5pm on a Friday and the whole seafood case was empty/closed. The seafood section is even smaller than what Sprouts had, which I would have thought the opposite. Major bummer there. I'm not a huge grocery level prepared food guy, but they have a cold case for prepared sushi and Korean rolls. Didn't look that impressive, maybe it was the time I came in. But if you're into this sort of thing, they have it. They still may evolve as time goes on, so I'll check in every 2-3 months or so. Just don't really seeing myself coming in much more than that. read more

This market is within walking distance from my office and the other location in Sunnyvale is also within walking from my house, but guess which market is better stocked and has more sale items? yep, the Sunnyvale location does, hands down. The bakery and the deli departments in the Sunnyvale location can easily put this place out of business. Seriously, I'm exaggerating, but not by much. I had high expectations when this market opened up so close to my office a few months back but after 3 months I see slow progress. I never thought that a Korean Market store opened around our community. Before this, we used to go drive to San Jose to see one. This place is at the corner of Mowry and Fremont Blvd. It's on the complex with Noah's bagel. Parking is a bit hard since there are a lot of establishments in this complex. This store just opened a few months ago and customer traffic is still high. I've seen a lot of people browsing around and checking what the store is offering. I'm surprised by the cleanliness and how they arranged their items. They have a section for Bakery where they make their bread as well as cakes and pastries. I saw several people preparing and mixing ingredients for baking. The bakery section looks fresh and neat. I walked into the fish alley and saw a lot of fresh fish and seashells. It's also clean and they prepare your fish. There's a section that says fish came directly from Korea It looks like the fish are caught fresh and are not frozen. There's a section with packaged fish also like mackerel. I went down the vegetable section and saw several layers of fresh-cut vegetables such as cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. It's so appealing and enticing to the eyes. They have several sections for packaging food. Most of the items are Korean made and the package is written in Korean. However, it's identified and people can browse around and pick their choice. Each alley is also identified with hanging signs so that customers can easily look at items they want to buy. This store is no different than any Asian store that I go to. However, it has a touch of Korean culture or atmosphere. It even has a sushi area and kimchi. If I want any Korean flavor or item, I will come here and I know they will have it. read more

I was excited to see a Korean mart in Fremont and thought it couldn't be as bad as what others said, but it was pretty bad. Although the space is big, the selections were very limited and the prices were outrageous. You're better off finding Korean goods for cheaper and with more variety at your local Asian grocery store (e.g. 99ranch, Marina, etc. ). $5 for a bag of Asian chips, I'd much rather go to Marina and pay a fraction of the price. Moreover the fruits/veggie selection were very limited. I opted for Thai basil since I was trying to make green curry. I needed chicken but the meat section didn't have any when I went Sunday morning? I was shocked no chicken out yet... maybe I came too early. I then wanted to pick up red pepper flakes (gochugaru) but most of them were made in China! Hopefully they add more to their inventory because my visit left much to be desired. Honestly, I'd much rather drive another 15-20 min to Hmart or just stick to my local Asian market for cheaper, fresher, and more variety. I was so disappointed. read more

Nice variety of Korean and other Asian groceries and items. A little smaller than H-Mart, but glad they carried some things not found at H-Mart or 99 Ranch.
