I have been a customer of MEENAN Oil Company for 15 years (or more) and have had only positive experiences with them. Their office staff is pleasant and knowledgeable and their technicians are prompt, courteous and competent. I've purchased their service contract for many consecutive years, having recently upgraded to the "platinum " contract now that my heating system is getting older. I recently had an oil delivery at a price higher than I expected. Patty (sales/office representative) explained the pricing procedure and suggested it would be beneficial to me to have a "ceiling protection" plan. The cost of heating oil every year is pretty much a guessing game since almost no one can predict the direction heating oil costs will move. I am a Meenan customer from 2014 until this year. Over the years, I appreciated the value of the annual boiler tune-ups because the technicians took the time to do the job properly. Unfortunately, I began noticing a decline in service quality back in 2022 with some technicians and raised concerns with Meenan that only seem to get addressed when you post it online. This issue was corrected when they sent a different technicians out to complete the tune up. Most recently, a technician came to replace an expansion tank and, while he was there, completed the annual tune-up that had been scheduled for August 31st. The entire tune-up took a very short time a job that historically took about an hour and a half. Previous technicians removed the top of the boiler and cleaned the heat exchanger -- arguably the most important part of the boiler to maintain for efficiency and longevity. During this visit, the top of the boiler was never removed and the heat exchanger was never cleaned. What has been even more disappointing than the service itself has been the lack of communication afterward. I called three times and was told each time that the Service Manager would return my call within 24 hours. After waiting five days without hearing from anyone, I called would call again on June 29 I talked to Amy who looked over the notes and was promised a callback. As of today, I still have not heard from the Service Manager. After more than a decade as a loyal customer, I expected better workmanship, better communication, and greater respect for the customers who have supported the company for years. read more

My husband and I had called a few times because the cost to fill our oil tank was astronomical. We spoke to friends who were with other companies and they could not believe what we were paying for oil. We finally switched to a new company and everything that we thought was true. The new company is not running any type of special. It's just a standard rate and we are saving about three to four hundred dollars each time we are filled. read more

Beware. I shopped for oil prices and chose a new oil provider because Meenan was the highest price I found. On 10-13-25, I called Meenan to cancel my contract that expires on 10-31-25. They did that effective 10-6-25 (the day I first called for pricing) and also cancelled my heater service contract at the same time, even though I paid for it until 10-31-25. My new oil company contract doesn't start until 11-1-25. Meenan has to provide the oil in order to service the heater. Moral --- It doesn't pay to be professional. I've been using Meenan oil for 45 years. This past year, they've been charging me the ceiling price of my contract which was set at $4.819 for the past few months. I've noticed I was paying over $1.00 more than the average price for my region based on the NYS Average Price index. I contacted other full-service oil companies in my area, and they all are charging close to the average price. Recently signed up for oil delivery and a service plan on our furnace. I cannot express how unhappy I am with the service and communication from Meenan. We have an issue that we are trying to get fixed and after 5 visits they seem unable to identify and fix the problem. I was scheduled for my sixth visit this evening from 5-8pm...with no phone call this evolved into a window of 10-11pm....which turned into 12:30am....and still no set time for their arrival. I just cancelled the appointment since it is the middle of the night and they have no clear idea when they could arrive. Save yourself the frustration and select a different provider. They overcharge for oil. I have a budget plan with a ceiling price of $4.99/gal. Although most companies are providing oil for almost half that, I am always charged the ceiling price. They overcharge way too much and rip off its customers. We won't be renewing our contract. read more

I used the company for 3 years. I paid for a service contract. Then in 2023 I went with a different company. In the winter of 2022 there was a very cold day and my lines froze. I called the "24 hour" help line and they came just about 24 hours later. the tech did not do anything to unfreeze the lines. instead he said I needed a new oil tank. he put in a temporary box of oil in my heater closet and told me to "make a decision quick because it's going to cost me $200 per day.". So I called a different company to come out and they unfroze my lines, got my heart going again, and drained the water out of my tank. they told me i did not need a new tank. so I called Meenen to tell them about this. they said they would refund me $200. I never got the refund. The new company I went with found out that I had a loose valve on my tank.... so meenen did a tune up every year and did not find that? meenen takes so much money from you not only with your "service agreement" but they will deliver anytime and all the time and charge the highest price they can. in 2022 I paid about $3,500. with the new company I went with in 2023 I spent $1000.... and that even included lifting the oil tank. read more

Avoid Meenan !! Once you sign any contract with them it's an un-ending battle with them to get out of it (even if you move out of state, or no longer own the home). Buyer beware at all costs. They have the highest oil prices of all of the other competitors in the area and scheduling any type of service with them is like calling a third world country because their computers 'are down', or that's a different section of the company and they'll try to transfer you to someone who is equally as inept as the first person you connected with. When you try to cancel a contract, they will ask you all sorts of questions around who is buying your home, is it under contract, where are you moving... all sorts of small talk. However, you are then pelted with spam at home and via phone regarding your home. This has happened twice with me before. They are not a reputable company. If I could give zero (or negative stars), I would. Seek an attorney if you are planning to get yourself off of a contract with them which you've unfortunately had to endure for some length of time. Meenan will gouge you for oil contracts after the first year! Email request to halt delivery at the end of the contract was ignored. Customer service is condescending, patronizing and disrespectful and have a prideful skill in exasperating customers with circular and non-linear repetitive nonsense. Don't waste your time. It's worth the peace of mind (and easy) to patronize a company that will treat you with fair pricing, dignity and thoughtfulness. The response to an email note requesting no deliveries (and an undisputed need for no deliveries) throughout the last two weeks of the contract period resulted in a forced delivery with no prior notice. Instead of replying with a great price (They were increasing my price by $1/gal for the next year) they replied with the excuse that they were behind in email notes. What a shady sales tactic. No wonder they have to work so hard to get new customers as they rip off their longstanding loyal customers. Never again. Too many great options out there. We asked for a tank and a half of oil under their budget plan we had no idea they would keep delivering oil when we didn't ask for it or need it at higher than average prices. Ever hear the saying, " You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink"? Not one person in our neighborhood has gas! We depend on oil to heat our homes. Now we all know what the price of oil is and has been in the past few years, better off to have gas, it's much cheaper to have the refined product believe it or not. I still mutter at the pumps when filling my car, but I mutter so much more when I get my oil bill. For years we have used Meenan Oil and we agreed year after year on their platinum agreement for servicing our grandfather oil burner, until we decided to put grandad to rest three years ago and buy a brand new furnace. For all those years we locked into separate oil agreements for oil pricing and another for servicing. This can be done two ways, either lock in at a fixed price for a year or lock into a ceiling priced agreement which fluctuates and of course is a gamble. I always fixed myself before but in recent years I fluctuate. Since we stopped using the platinum agreement to service our brand new furnace I wanted to shop around for my oil deliveries and Meenan just could not get that through their head! Recently Meenan delivered at the tune of $3.399 per gallon when I had called other oil companies that would deliver it for $2.899 per gallon. I was livid! I've asked them for three years to stop delivering oil to my home and to allow me to shop around. Each year they give me a huge discount when I call in all upset, like "how could you?" Each year I cave in to those then offered discounts after getting myself all wound up. What deep down gets to me every time is the fact that they are there 24/7 and if I ever needed service they will be right here to keep me warm. Plus they'll spend all the time I want to discount my bill and make me happy! But why oh why should I have to go through this? I just want to go back to the good old days with Meenan, when I did not cringe after seeing that oil bill in my mailbox. I have been with this company for many years. We bought the unit from MEENAN and the once a year service contract. Today Alejandro Escobar came & inspected the heater for the yearly tune-up. He was professional yet friendly. He tested and checked everything, even the tank outside. I also learned that my carbon monoxide detector was placed too high because of how the gas goes up to escape the vents and then starts towards the floor expanding upwards. Alejandro was an amazing break to my afternoon, and I will definitely be requesting him again. read more

I get that they use the excuse about being a full service oil provider, with 24/7 service, stock of parts etc. However I was paying a minimum of $ 1.04 and at its worst $ 1.27 more per gallon than other oil providers in the Levittown area. Meenan will tell you they have a great service dept for repairs anytime day or night, however I was paying $ 375 a year for the service contract to cover their so called "great service". I use 850 gallons a year, multiplied by an average of $1.15 more per gallon than other companies, is pushing an additional $ 1000 per year. They will tell you, " but we're a full service oil company", well Miss Meenan, so are the other companies that I will be saving $ 1000 per year with, because you're done...... read more

This is what it must be like to have so many customers that you treat them like sh*t. I have been an oil and propane customer for over 4 years. I was never happy with the fact Meenan insist on making deliveries as frequently as they like. Whether you need it or not. They then demand payment in full. And if you don't pay the balance you get Late Fees. I understood this going in. What I didn't know was that if you don't pay the balance they begin to call you every day. Though I was not able to always pay the balance when they requested it, I did make payment every month.(for 3 months) But that did not stop them from coming to my home and disconnecting my propane. The oil tank did not belong to them so they were unable to touch the oil tank. Three weeks later I was able to pay the entire $510 balance. Yet they never returned to re-connect the propane. When I called, I was immediately transferred to the "credit department" where I was told they would re-instate my account if I paid $885 up front. The Rep then began to read my entire credit report to me (NOT just my score). My low score is why they were demanding a "down payment" on future deliveries. I pointed out that the gas currently in the tank has been paid for and so I want the tank re-connected. Instead, she said the tank would be removed and I would get a check for the propane still remaining in the tank. In less that 60 minutes the 200 pound tank had been removed from my property.(And I live in a rural area) I was assured I would receive a full refund for the fuel still in the tank at the price for which I had paid for it. They made no attempt to retain me as a customer or even pretend to care about my situation. I currently plan to speak with my attorney regarding Meenan allowing complete strangers to access and view my entire credit report (not just the score). I suggest you look elsewhere for oild and propane. I was the single worst Customer Service experience i have ever had. read more

I have been a Meenan Oil Customer for 12 years and last year agreed to a 2 years service agreement. I called today to say that I'm moving in with my daughter and son in law and wanted to cancel my service. Was told when I asked to talk to a manager that I will be charge a $375 cancellation fee because I'm not staying with their company. Told them that it's not my house and they don't care. Be careful before you agree to anything with this company. I also had a lot of problems with them earlier this year getting a new heater installed. I was promised a date and didn't come for days later. Customer service reps are very nice when you are signing up but things are different when you need them or have questions. I already called and talked to one of their VP, Leo who said that I still have a year on my service contact and they are sticking to the agreement. Cancelled the Meenan Services contract and went with another supplier. To clarify the problem, it was their fault we lost oil because they didn't refill our tank per the service contract we have with them. And gave us no priority in service to help fix their lack of service. I waited until 3p on Day 3 of not having heat for a delivery window that was from 9a-12p on that day and a SO HELPFUL 24 hour window for the first day and they never showed so I cancelled their service and had someone else deliver oil and restart our heat. I have never been this upset with a company's treatment. To leave a family in the cold for over 2 days without even trying to help when they caused the problem, that is inexcusable. They gave us a 24 hour service window and no advance notice before showing up. When they showed, we were out getting food and trying to get warm. And they just called when they arrived on our doorstep and then left. Didn't put us back into any type of priority within the queue. Ridiculous service response. Avoid this company. read more

Had to call and a technician came out and thought it was fixed but then broke again. Called again and was given 9-11pm window and no one came till after 11pm and I woke to a message saying they were there at 12:05am. Not only did they come & fill my tank last April after I informed them that I do not need any more oil , but they charged me top dollar .. I called & cancelled . Low & behold , I get home today 12/5/17 & here they came & refilled my tank again without even notifying me & again charged $2.65 a gallon. You can get it anywhere for $2.20 . This is the same company that informed my 85 year old father that he needed a new tank. We received another quote & low & behold, the tank is fine & should last another 10 years. I have been with meenan for years because I felt stuck not being able to research other companies raising my kids with my husband traveling often. This company makes so many promises they never keep. They kept my children and I without heat and hot water multiple times. They have sent multiple service representatives out to fix my issues only to make things worse (or at least that is what the next service representative said) or not fix things at all. I was given specific representatives to be available to me because my services had been so bad and they wanted to keep me as a customer but when I called for their services I found out "they are no longer with the company"? They say the call systems are being updated so I ask "so there is no communication happening for 15 days" It's all a farce. Meenan has done so much damage to me as far as time, promises not kept and just taking as much money as they can with no remorse of their treatment to me as a customer. I'm a transplant from Maine and I'm not a fan of PA but this company has nothing but compliments coming from me. Yeah I'm aware I could probably get my oil for a little cheaper but they always come when I need service on my oil burner which is at least once a year and I have the platinum plan so I get all my service for free. The drivers always check to make sure the dogs are in before opening my gate which is VERY important and yesterday they delieverd and the driver took the time to come up to the door again and tell me he thought the vine growing on my fence was poison sumac and even gave me some pointers on how to get rid of it, which I thought was very nice. I had no idea. My husband is always the one that has called customer service and paid the bills but he rants about how great they are and how he wishes we could take them back to Maine when we move. Let me start out by saying that I can only blame myself... This past winter when the oil prices were sky high, for the first time, I looked into making monthly payments for my oil as opposed to ordering with cash like I'd done in the past. I live in a small rowhome and my typical usage is roughly less than a full tank's worth in a winter, or roughly ~ 200 gallons. Meenan left a flyer with a $100 discount, so I called. The salesman explained to me that they have a 300 gallon minimum, and when I stated that I don't use that much, he told me not to worry, because I won't pay for what I don't use. Well...here it is, in August, and my tank is full of oil I haven't used. Why? Well off the bat they filled my tank...fine, great, that gets me thru the season. I get my monthly bill and I'm happy. Then a couple weeks later, I get another delivery to top off the tank. I'm annoyed. I didn't need it. So I call and complain. They tell me that they needed to do that in order to get a reading of my usage so they know how much I'll need. I call BS on that because I told them up front what I'll use, but I let it go. Then maybe a month after that, they fill me up again! I call them and complain again. They told me that I shouldn't have received a delivery for such a small amount because that costs them money. (Funny how it winds up being on MY bill when it costs them money...) They tell me they will put in the computer to not deliver again until after my contract is up, and then had the audacity to imply that something was wrong with me for not being thrilled about their service. Finally in May, they send me a final bill for something like $400 after I'd been paying $168 a month. I just about lost it. Apparently this was the amount OVER my 300 gallon budget that I went because of their automatic delivery service. Now remember, here I sit with a nearly full tank of oil, when I actually used roughly 150 gallons, which they confirmed based on their own calculations. I laid it all on the line and informed them I had no interest in doing business with them ever again and that I would not ever under any circumstances sign another contract with them in the future, and nor would I even require the type of services they provide, since I now have enough oil sitting in my tank to get me through a winter and a half. I admit, I got into a contract that I deeply regret. But I was willing to just let it go. The reason I am here today to write this review is because I received a call from Meenan today attempting to gain back my business. Seriously? Really?? After selling me more than two winters worth of oil, and after me telling you that I have a full tank and that I will not have a need to buy oil until at least January of 2014 because of how much oil I have been stuck with due to the ridiculous agreement I foolishly entered into, and your own records confirming it, really, you're going to attempt a win-back call?? And then minutes after we hang up, you're going to call me back to tell me that you offer COD options without a contract?? Really?? Did that actually just happen??? read more

I've been a Meenan customer for many years without issue. I contacted Meenan a few months ago to let them know that I would 'eventually' be moving (did not yet have a date) and that I didn't want them to automatically refill my oil and propane because I didn't want to leave the house with the tanks full and me owing for the propane and/or oil. On July 4th (I hadn't been home on the 3rd), I get up ready to prepare for a 7/4 event for which I was making macaroni salad and devilled eggs; and my stove wouldn't start! I went out back to discover that my propane tank was gone!!!! And no, I wasn't late on payment. The propane was paid in full. When I initially called Meenan, they had no record of any propane pick up; so I told the woman that I was going to call the police then. She called me back moments later because she discovered my propane account. BUT because it was a holiday, there was nothing they could do. No one could explain to me exactly why the tank was picked up. A manager call me moments ago at my work to explain to me that because I told them I needed to cancel service they came to pick up the tank and seemed to feel that I should understand since they did give me 60 days from the day I called, even though I never gave them a date that I was leaving. I told him I would have expected a call regarding the tank pickup. He didn't seen to care or understand why I would have expected a call because they gave me 60 days (No one ever told me anything about this 60day period)! He went on to further say if I called a cable company to stop service, they would shut me off that day. Well of course since one calls the cable company when it's no longer needed!. It wasn't that I didn't need the oil or propane (that I already had) when I called; it was that I didn't want to have an excess left at the time I would be moving!!! I finally had to hang up on the "manager" because he even said "it sounds like you just want it your way". What??? The guy proceeded to call me back FOUR more times even though I told him I was done and I was at work and that he was now harassing me. Be careful. Be very careful. They were great while I was a 'refill' customer; but because I'm leaving the home and may no longer be a customer (not sure if I'll need oil and/or propane where I'm moving to), they treat me like this??? read more

This company is a complete ripoff. I have been a customer for a few years and decided to shop around. They gave me 6 different prices to keep me. After the third price I asked them for their absolutely best price and then they beat that price twice more. During this period I asked them what the price was if delivered today. They told me $4.029. I cancelled my contract and they delivered oil 2 days later at $4.469 I called to ask about it and they immediately credited my account. After 3 days the bill was adjusted, all right - it still had the delivery charge, but now there was a late fee as well, after I had been told by a rep that I had 30 days to pay the bill. This review is for Lindsay M. She is my customer service rep that always goes above and beyond for me! I can honestly say that she is fantastic at her job! Anytime I have questions about my bill,( which is hard to navigate and confusing), she always takes the time to explain everything and helps me understand it. She really cares about her customers and is always courteous and professional. She calls and checks up on me to make sure that I am doing ok with my payments, and really takes her time on the phone to do the right thing! We went back and forth for a good couple of weeks last year trying to lock in the best oil price, and Lindsay, would call me every week to let me know about current prices. We got to know each other better and I learned to trust her, because I felt that she really cared and had my best interest at heart. I'm glad I trusted her and am still a meenan customer. I know that their prices may be slightly higher than other companies, but, whenever I have an issue, they are always there to fix it! I guess that's the price you pay for great service and the customer service from Lindsay is impeccable! I know how valuable good customer relations are and how important it is to keep your customers happy, as I am in the service industry too. Thank Lindsay for always being so helpful and caring!
