Mike from Coastside Tile was a sub-contractor under my general contractor Lawton Smith of Pacifica…read more When I met Mike at my flat in the City, he was on time for our meeting. I showed him the tiles for the shower walls and shower floor, along with the floor tiles for the bath and toilet. He was very interested in everything I was concerned about and made some really nice suggestions, along with the placement and design of the niche for shampoo and soap. He also angled the tiles for water runoff on the window sill and shower pan. I discussed with him about the placement and centering of all the tiles. I told him that a lot of times when I go to use bathrooms at restaurants and other establishments, that you see small pieces of tiles on the ends of walls and floors because the installer of the tiles didn't concern themselves with the way that looks. He entered all of the wall tiles and floor tiles. (See pics) If you need a tile job done at your house, do not hesitate to call Mike. By the way, his final bill was actually less than his original bid.

I am overdue in writing a review for Mike Madsen of Coastside Tile. I was looking for someone to…read moretile my entry, a bathroom floor, and shower. He was great! He put in a full day, did beautiful work, and was reasonable. The tiles I had chosen for the entry and the bathroom floor were six sided. Mike planned the placement so that the cuts on each side were even. Both floors are lovely. Shower tiles, as purchased were 12" x 24". Again, Mike placed them so they looked balanced at each side and at the window. For the shower floor, he cut the tiles into smaller squares to accommodate the slant toward the drain. When I first saw his listing, of course I looked up the company on Yelp. I was somewhat concerned that this licensed and insured craftsman had only one review. In our conversations, he said that he often worked for contractors, and, after seeing his work, I figured that any reviews would go to the contractor and not the individual craftspeople. He does beautiful work. He works quickly (and neatly). His prices are reasonable. If you are looking for someone to tile, your search can end here.

Floorboards were rotted out around the shower. Mike had the time for my project, and I am so thankful he was able to do the work for me. His prices are fair. He communicated clearly, completing the project on time. Each day he arrived on time and stayed on schedule. I was also impressed with how he noticed details that were necessary to the project and improved the result: adjusting the size of a vanity, adding a towel rod, designing a hallway arch to work with pipes. Mike was also considerate of my needs as I was moving out at the time-he facilitated deliveries, went beyond the call of duty with clean-up-awesome-and offered to be on-call as I was out of state for part of this project. The end result is beautiful, and I have retained Mike to also take care of my house as needed into the future. I recommend Mike 100%. Honest. Conscientious. High quality work. Punctual. Great communicator.

Sal and his team made our stairs look brand new. Our Sunset home had several cracked stairs that…read morewere leaking water underneath the house. We solicited several quotes and his was the best priced and most honest (others tried to upsell us on replacements). We couldn't recommend Rainbow Terrazzo more highly.

They not only put up the porcelain tile on the walls and floors, but they also installed new counters, mirrors, toilets, and a shower and jacuzzi tub, as well as all the fixtures. In addition, they are very considerate, warm, and friendly--extremely easy to work with! Highly recommended!

We were dealing with ugly bathroom tiles and a big hole in the wall. I contacted three contractors…read moreand all three were comparable in pricing. One contractor didn't make a site visit. Another contractor couldn't start until two weeks later. Alex made a site visit and was very personable. With the lead time, we chose Alex. Right when we chose him, he wanted to start that day! I said OK. That afternoon the demolition began. In two weeks he completed the job. He will work around your schedule. We had a family incident and needed to push back the work a day. We also had to wait a few days for the faucet to be delivered. The hours are up to you. We were OK with his team working into the late evening to get the job done because we were down a bathroom. Vitali and Alex work really really hard and long hours. There were some up sale items, but we picked which ones we wanted. Our vanity was in bad shape; so we updated the vanity, sink, backsplash and faucet. Alex quoted us a great price and offered to do tile flooring which would have made the bathroom even nicer, but we decided that the flooring would be fine. Maybe save that for the next remodel. Going through any type of remodel or home update is emotional and risky. We did a home remodel years back and that's when we learned you can really only choose two of the three: quality, cost, or speed. With Alex we were able to get close to all three. Obviously your home is very dear, and there are small little things that you can sweat over. Your home will never be perfect. Not a year goes by without some work that needs to be done to my home. Things get old and break down. There are many things that I would do over, but everyday I go into my newly updated bathroom and smile.

Found…read moreDavid Giusto Tile on Yelp, sent him pix i took underneath, had good email, he came out and looked in the shower and under the house. We wanted to go full permit, which was a bit of an adventure. Permit took over a month to get through Oakland planning department, not for completely obvious reasons, but we got it. Dave bid two different cases depending on what was under the shower floor tiles, and behind the wall tiles. He pulled out the shower floor and the pan under it, then went into the four walls, Turns out the problems were dramatic and long standing. Damp, dry-rotted and punky sub-floor, parts of floor joists, wall studs and bottom plate. He carefully removed the tiles (that had a 6 month lead time), removed all the bad wood, called the inspector. No mysteries. Everything clearly visible. They discussed how to fix it all, inspector liked what he heard. New 2 x 3, 2 x 4 lumber and sisters for the joists were screwed into place and the inspector came back. He liked the work. Now the new subfloor was fastened down, and the new shower pan was installed over a tapered base that ensured all the water would get to the drain. The mortar supporting the floor and running up the walls went on. Then the whole new pan was filled with water and the high line marked. After a weekend, it had held all the water and it drained when the temporary block was removed. Tile time. Old shower floor had been a mix of related color tiles, an abstract mosaic. New floor is hexagonal tiles that come very close in color to the wall tiles. Saved wall tiles went on the entrance, and the back wall and sides. New tiles, matching the hex floor exactly, went into the bottom row, and on the inside of the front wall. Saved brown trim went in at the entrance. Now the big glass marble came out: Dave released it in each of the 4 corners, and the marble rolled briskly to center. It stopped on the grate or touching the grate. There you go. It looks like it will out-live me. Dave made smart-phone pictures and movies of each step, documenting each layer as it was revealed, then documented the repairs, the new drain, the new pan, new mortar, tiles and finally grout. He sent them to us as he worked, and posts these on his web site where prospective clients can see what he does. It's worth your time.
