Jim was an expert guide! He came out on Thanksgiving to give my daughter the best ride for her 8th birthday. The horses were really sweet and well taken care of. Our fairly new boss decided to have our first team building experience to be horse riding. We were all pretty shocked and nervous about this adventure. But they took care of us and helped us mount and explained basic moves with the horses. My horse, June, was the sweetest. Our guide explained to us that they switch the horses up so they don't get "cranky." They know the horses' temperament and group them in the ride accordingly. The horses pretty much followed the horse in front of them so a few of us took pictures along the way. Our guide also placed our horses for our group photo midway our ride. The 90 minute ride was really enjoyable and we got to enjoy the sunset. read more

What an amazing experience. This was an impromptu decision for us and they were able to fit us in quickly and early so we could continue our road trip to California. The office staff was friendly and helpful and the Wrangler/guide Melissa was amazing. She pointed out cool and interesting things on the trail and was more than happy to help us get some great picture. The mounts were sweet, well trained, and sure footed on the trails and terrain. My friend is an inexperienced rider and was very comfortable. Being in charge of horses or other livestock on a ranch of any kind is no easy task. Until I looked up the exact definition, I had no clue what the responsibilities of a wrangler actually were. I know the job. I just never tied the job together with the title. Audra, my guide, is a rodeo queen and a wrangler. Get it, girl! I am a former dressage and jumper in English riding style. After reading some of these reviews, I can tell her work, along with the work of her coworkers, is greatly underappreciated. First of all, it is always important to read over what you're signing before you get on the horse. You are riding a large animal with a limited intelligence level. Horses understand hunger, thirst, love, passion, fear, and exhaustion. Spend enough time around them, and their personalities will come out. Knowing this, you have to learn to trust your horse. You also have to understand that if something freaks them out, it's nothing personal against you. They are only trying to protect themselves the same way you would for yourself. There is only so much a guide can do and that's why you're signing disclaimers before you get on this beautiful yet unpredictable animal. Audra and I set out through the desert, taking in the scenery, and talking smack about everything that was on our minds at the moment. I was her only client on this particular morning. I was definitely spoiled! I don't feel like she had to worry about me too much considering my background (10 years past experience). I'm mostly just out of shape. I also hate riding with other people who have never been around horses. They tend to treat the experience with a condescending attitude and rarely respect the animals. There's a life lesson you learn when you grow up in the horse world, "If you fall off the horse, you get back on." Even if it isn't right away. Even if it isn't a literal translation. It means, do not dwell on your mistakes. Don't play the victim. Pick yourself up and move on! Riding teaches you confidence. The horses, if you let them, are your therapists. It is a literal practice: Equine Therapy. In this case I'm probably not applying it in the best manner, but for me that is exactly what horses do. I got on the horse with stress about my job, and my personal life. Once I got off the horse, I was sad to see it end, but I was emotionally refreshed and ready to get back on that horse you call life, and live it with a new perspective. Thank you, Audra. Just officiated a wedding here and it's absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The space was spacious and a lot of great spaces for formal pictures. Perfect space to social distance and have a ceremony outside. The only reason I give it a 4 star is because when I asked for directions the staff was kind of rude. My daughter got married here this past Saturday. I have waited to make this review to collect my thoughts and calm my emotions. I would like to say that this is a stunning venue. There is obviously great care taken by the owner to make the gardens stay so nice. With that said, overall the owner is disorganized to say the least. Every meeting I had with her was literally all over the place. She has you sign a contract, that even she doesn't know what is in it. She is constantly adding or taking away this or that, and can't even remember what she has told you from meeting to meeting. She acts like she is so easy going and will do whatever she can for you, but at the end of the day, she only wants you to do what she thinks you should. And I get it, it's her place. But when she says that you can do something, then after all is done she comes in and starts taking down things you spent hours putting up, it was frustrating to say the least. She will say we misunderstood what she meant, but honestly it was that she is a control freak. My understanding from our contract is that we had the venue until 10pm., as that was the only stated time on it. But at 9:10, she had the bartender, not herself, come talk to me about how our time was up at 9. So I went to talk to her, she said that we had 5 hours from the start time on our invitations, but this was never explained to us and was not on the contract anywhere. If you are not interested in decorating the venue your way, or have any opinion about how your wedding should be run, then by all means...this is the place for you. But just know that the owner will make changes regularly on you and not care at all if you are upset by them. Don't buy into her "I will bend over backward for you" routine, at the end of the day, she doesn't care about you or your event. read more

Husband and I went for a sunset ride. It went pretty good in the beginning. The entire trail was through a wash so there was wildlife running around but you couldn't really see the mountains. The guides seemed friendly enough. They were younger, early 20s to mid 20s maybe. While walking on the trail my horse and the one in front of me stumbled a lot. The one in front of me went down on his front elbow at one point. They just seemed pretty unsteady. As we were going back through the wash something spooked the horses. They all took off in a full out run. Most of the people on the ride had never been on a horse and I had only been on trail horses. So everyone was pulling back on the reins like they told us, but since they are trail horses they followed the others and didn't stop for a while. Once they finally stopped, I noticed the empty horse. The other lady fell off her horse and was unconscious on the path. She didn't move for about 2-3 minutes. The guide went over and tried talking to her and she only moaned. My husband is and has been a paramedic for over 20 years. He offered to help and the guide refused. We offered multiple times to help and he just kept refusing. The lady turned over and the guide was trying to make her stand up. She couldn't even hold her legs underneath her. She obviously had a bad concussion. They brought her back in a four wheeler/golf cart thing. They should not have moved her and called 911 immediately. Our returning guides horse was very jumpy on the way back. Luckily we were close, I was very ready to get off! I talked to the lady who seemed better. No ambulance was called or first aid administered. I thought it was very poor how they handled the entire event. They seemed ill prepared for accidents. I will never ride here, or even recommend it to anyone. Best just to stay away and find a more reputable place. read more

Our Girl Scout troop scheduled a 1 hour trail ride to earn our horseback riding badge. The girls were a little nervous, most of them having never been on a horse before. We were assigned 1 guide and 2 wranglers (forgive me but I've forgotten their names). All three were amazing! Our guide had experience in working with Girl Scouts and was even familiar with badge requirements! He took the time to go over things and everyone was carefully matched with the appropriate mount. One of our girls was extra nervous, and one of the wranglers took extra time to make her comfortable and rode next to her the entire ride. The experience was wonderful and safety was of a top priority here. Everyone enjoyed a peaceful ride, and the only comments I received (from adults and girls alike) were requests to go again. read more

Alex and his lovely horse Platinum led the trail ride while my horse for the day, Trampis, closely followed. The trail was gorgeous and Alex pointed out native vegetation like the "jumping cactus" and boroughs where one might find a ground owl. Alex did an incredible job explaining how to lead my horse and was kind enough to stop mid trail to adjust my saddle. Safety first! The horses are extremely well mannered and the stables are filled with adorable critters like a miniature bull. I will defiantly be returning on my next trip to Tucson! read more

I was so excited to take my son and family out to see the Christmas in the Desert. I read that it was a 25 minute hayride along the property showcasing various light setups. Well.... the hayride was probably only 10 minutes so that was kind of disappointing. They said online that they would charge $5 per photo taken with Santa. I think I'm the only one in a long line that paid to take a picture with Santa. So why wasn't that more regulated? Why charge one person but no the other twenty in line??? I would go back if it was actually a 25 minute hayride not a 10 minute hayride. I drove a good distance to this attraction and was really excited but in the end I left disappointed! read more

We called for a reservation and everything seemed fine. However we showed up and an operator showed up, but thought one on our party was the guide. She was wearing chaos cause she worked on a ranch before. The operator left and when we called, the owner realised what had happened and would send him back for our ride. At this point we did not feel comfortable and cancelled our ride. In the end the operation seemed poorly managed compared with other outfits we have used in the past. read more

I really liked their holiday ride, with ONE big exception. They charged to sit on Santa's lap. SERIOUSLY? I can see charging for a picture, but to say hi to Santa? That is absolutely the greediest thing I think I have ever seen. I trailer my horse regularly to the Sahuaro Monument in Tucson. My friend and I were arriving back at our trailer when a wrangler and about 6 people were taking off on a ride. He was a guide from Pantano Stables. The last young girl in the group, who weighed all of 80 lbs., was on a mare that could barely walk. I told the wrangler that the mare was lame and shouldn't be ridden. He brought the mare and rider back, tied the horse to the trailer, called his boss, and told the girl to wait and someone would pick her up. My friend and I waited with her as she was apprehensive about waiting alone. Someone from the stables showed up, after about 20 minutes, and I told her that the horse was lame. Her response was that the horse had foot problems and they were dealing with it. That horse had no business being sent out on a trail ride. After the woman left, I looked at the mare's feet. She was barefoot. The mare's feet were in terrible shape. Additionally, she had an eye infection with a yellow discharge coming from her left eye. Flies were all over it. The woman took the young girl back to the stables but left the mare tied to the trailer. The riders were on a 1 1/2 hour ride so she was tied up that long or longer. read more

We are here from Phoenix and wanted to take the grandkids horseback riding. I chose Pantano. The youngest child was a little apprehensive about riding alone but we were told they don't like to ride double. Our guide, Alicia, was great, confident,interacting all thru the ride and assured our 6 year old would be completely safe, as she was. She loved it!! So did our 12 year old grandau and her friend. Hubby liked the military discount they give. I went along just to be with them but it wasn't too bad. Dusty but eh, so what - its Tucson!! This was the highlight of the whole trip. Went on the one hour trail ride with my two granddaughters, ages 8 and 10. The trail guide, Dylan was wonderful! He was patient with us and stopped so we could get a photos as well. Before the ride we were given a short tutorial as to how to command the horse with certain moves and how to be safe on the horse. Overall it was a grand experience and I would do it again. Take your youngsters on this ride with no concerns, they are great. read more
