The outside seating is beautiful and the whole patio is very kid friendly (fenced all around with and play ground). It was walk up service and the bar tenders were very friendly. The food looked great; however, it was a little plain. We'll go back and try again soon.

Good food and good service. At tad pricey but totally worth it . Nice place for lunch and dinner

While the greens were in pretty good shape, the fairways need some TLC and most of the tee boxes need a lot of TLC. On the positive side - in addition to the mostly decent greens - the ball wash and water stations were well maintained, staff members we interacted with were friendly, there were some nice views of the nearby Rincon Mountains, and the $34 greens fee is reasonable. The overall experience would be greatly enhanced with better maintained surfaces.

The course did not disappoint as the place is beautiful and perfectly maintained. The putting surfaces are probably the nicest I have ever played upon. And, to go-on about how nice the course is...apparently they maintain the sand bunkers here by using ancient, long-forgotten secrets (as most places I play--even the nicer courses--seem to have given up even trying.) "Cement hard" is the norm here it Tucson...but not up at La Paloma. Those sands of the Palomas are perfection. I normally hand out 5-star ratings like confetti. But this is because I originally decided to only write reviews for places that I found to be really exceptional. I see myself as someone who likes to share cool things that I find on my blessed-life's journey--with hopes that others can also discover and enjoy them. But as I evolve as a YELPian, I've decided to branch out a bit more and not limit myself to giving almost- exclusively , "Pollyannic-flowery-positive" reviews. (*If you look it up, you''ll see that I do actually have 3 reviews of places where I gave less than 5 stars). Anyways, to, "cut to the chase"... I love the setting, and the course itself is fantastic! And, of course, the amenities provided here are top-notch. (eg: complimentary non-alcholic drinks, and top of the line driving range balls--*also gratis to players) But two incidents "rubbed me the wrong way". I now offer the following: Maybe I shouldn't be so sensitive, but the first occurred as I was attempting to pay for my round (for me, a retired and humble teacher, $138 for a round of golf is a big amount to pay, but I occasionally splurge and treat myself to something kinda splashy). So there I am about to pay, when suddenly a woman stepped up next to where I was extending my credit card. She interrupted the transaction by saying in the, "poshest-of posh" high-pitched English accents, "I don't mean to interrupt, but I need you to add my scores to the competition register. (*or something to that effect--as they apparently were hosting an event where female club members were recording their pars and birdies over a period of time, and whomever tally's the most during the time period is declared the winner.). The young man at the register, immediately gave her his undivided attention as he apparently felt she was "entitled" to interrupt. Now, I know what you are saying, "Oh, poor baby. He got interrupted while paying to play golf. Let me cry you a river." (*and your point is well taken, I shouldn't even bring up the minor inconvenience. But, it did slightly rub me the wrong way, as I generally stand for truth, justice and the American way and always taught my students that the fairest thing is to wait for their turn.) To her credit, this lady must have been something before they invented electricity. The next thing is going to fall into the, "dude, that is a petty thing" category also. But as we were golfing, a member of the La Paloma team was observed driving a cart towards us. As he leaned forward and drove with much intention and urgency, I guessed that we had left a club behind... or that one of our family members had just been taken to the hospital, and one of us was urgently needed to be at their bedside. At this time, we were on the fairway of the 11th hole and about to hit. It turns out that he had ridden hard to catch us to inform two of our three-some, that our shirts had come partially untucked and that we were expected to keep them in our pants during the round. He was nice about it, and I obliged and re-tucked the small section of my shirt that had come out in the back. But... Sheeze! I am all for decorum, and the following of rules, and good etiquette in all aspects of life, but this seemed a little silly and over the top. Anyways. La Paloma is good place to play golf if you like a beautiful setting, and perfectly groomed conditions, and don't mind paying a bit more than what most of us salt-of-the-earth types would typically pay. Oh, and by the way, the lady who interrupted my payment... she didn't really speak in a posh English accent-- just good ol' American . But the last time I saw lips like that, there was a hook in it. (not really, she was actually very nice looking... just a bit pushy and maybe a touch-"entitled"...and even that is up for debate, as she may have just forgotten herself in the moment. I like to think that maybe, that night, as she lay her head on her pillow, she thought, "Oh, good gracious! I cut in line today. That surely was not me at my best."

In addition to Arizona National being both, a really nice golf course (that will beat you down and keep you on your knees if you let it), and that it sits in a location that truly amazing, the staff that works here is exceptional. The cart girl who brought us beverages in the desert heat was exceptionally pleasant and caring, as was the young man who took my food order when I stayed behind and grabbed a post-round lunch. He too was also super friendly and courteous...and patiently listened as I shared a couple boring golf stories. I also really enjoyed the interactions that I had with the starter, and the "customer support" guy who sets your clubs up in the cart, and the pro shop guy were all very enjoyable and made me feel welcomed and appreciated. I will close by sharing that I did have an off-putting experience (where the pro-shop guy was openly rude to me for no apparent reason). This was two years ago and I had vowed to avoid the course... and actually had not played there since. I am glad that my golf buddies invited me to play there last week as the experiences were really good--in every way that a round of golf could be.

Yesterday I had the House Salad, full of the usual vegetable suspects, a hardboiled egg, several slices of bacon, and a sliced chicken breast, hot off the grill and super tender. The default dressing is ranch but I love the chef's Caesar, so opted for that. I was almost able to finish the salad and it was delicious. The restaurant and golf course are semiprivate so open to the public. Wednesday and Friday nights are dinner specials and holidays have special menus. Thanksgiving was fabulous (no cooking or cleanup for me!) and a teaser was just put out for St. Patrick's Day.

There were four of us and we got two appetizers, which was more food that we needed! The serving sizes are very generous. We had nachos and an order of cauliflower. The only downside was we had to ask her plates, we had to ask for silverware, we had to ask for napkins, we had to ask for water refills. Maybe they were just a little understaffed for a Tuesday night, but it will not deter me from coming back. In fact, I highly recommend it. Perfect for a summer night. And I can't quite leave this review without saying the ambience of the setting was just perfect. There was nothing wrong with the food and our drinks were delicious. Interestingly, the specialty drinks had no prices on the menu and my drink was $15 on our bill which was ok with me because it was very good. Our server was so rude throughout our evening. We asked him about the drinks and we were left to feel like it was an inconvenience. His demeanor and attitude was just so rude. Any questions we had about the menu he seemed so angry. He hardly said anything to us all evening. I tried to make some light hearted comments and he told me he didn't appreciate it as he was so busy. All of the other servers seemed fine. Between the four of us for a cocktail and food we easily spent $50 each. My husband and I typically tip 20-25% because we know serving is hard work. Needless to say he didn't quite get 10%. Love the atmosphere but felt like we weee on egg shells with this guy. I would go back but would not have him as our server.
