When in for the first time during a lunch break. Ordered up the Philly cheesesteak, and a beer. Found out that they don't serve beer . It does say beer and wine on the window but the cashier said she been here for a few years and there is no beer , I also thought I was getting a combo but I don't think she heard me. . The sandwich was good. It needed something tho to give it the zing like other Phillies I enjoy, ...something that makes me talk about it for weeks to come like a couple other places I have eaten in. The sandwich had mozzarella cheese , peppers, onions and the regular stuff that makes it a sandwich. Service was good the brought it out to the table,they had the regular drinks and chips. We've been going to Meconis since the 1980s and really enjoy the sandwiches. Lately though, our orders are never quite right. Today my sandwich looked like they'd made a chopped salad and threw it on my bread. The meat was cut in small pieces and kept falling out. It's making me frustrated and sad to see how the quality is sliding. It's frustrating. It didn't need to. It knew what it was and stayed there. Solid. Quiet. Like a craftsman who works with their hands and doesn't talk much. The bread was soft in the middle, with a crust that gave just enough. They sliced the meat thick and cold, the way it should be, stacked high with nothing fancy to cover it. Lettuce crisp. I got a half a sandwich, create your own with turkey, pastrami, salami, and all of the toppings. The half was huge and only $7.50. What an amazing deal! The bread was fresh and so soft. The meat was delicious and of high quality. I added a few mustard packets to the sandwich as it was a bit bland, but after adding it, the sandwich was delicious and added some zing and acidity to it. Absolutely recommend Meconi's for that sandwich craving you might be having. High quality ingredients and delicious bread puts these guys miles ahead of the other fast sub type places. They offer both hot & cold subs, with full or half sizes. Nearly any type of meat or veg you're in the mood for, Meconi's will have it. I've never had any of their cold subs before (figuring I can make a cold sub at home fairly easily and wanting to take advantage of them making a harder to make at home hot sub), but I've had many a friend get cold ones and they look good, and they like them. My two favorite hot subs are the Meatball sub and the Philly Cheesesteak. Both are delicious! Tasty meat, sweet & tangy sauce, melted cheese ... Yummo! UGH. This is the sandwich of my childhood. It's been so long since I've been to my hometown of Oly, but having had to run an errand around the area, I decided to revisit a spot I grew up eating while in town. And I can not believe how freaking good it is even still after all these years. Meconi's Italian Subs is mostly located around the Olympia area. The closest location to Seattle is in Tacoma, which operates more as a bar, but you can still get their Italian sandwiches there. However, this Lacey location is the one I used to eat at, so has a special place in my heart. There's a lot to choose from, like cold deli meats or hot sandwiches, salads, sides, etc. They make and hand form their own meatballs here, so the meatball sub is my absolute favorite here. And I don't even like meatball subs! Can you believe that? But the beefy meatballs, smothered in mozzarella and marinara will have you salivating just opening up the tin foil it's carefully placed in. Just writing this makes me wish I had a Meconi's meatball sub right now! The regular size is large enough, but if you get a large size, you will have two subs, hence, another meal! You'll want to get a large anyway because the subs here are that good. For sides they have pasta salad, potato chips, etc., and there's plenty of room to dine in. My only complaint about Meconi's is that there is not one near the Seattle area at all. But perhaps that's what's special about it and why it means so much to me. It's an Oly thing! read more

My go to is Turkey, but the hot subs and the tuna are outstanding as well. I don't say this about many places , but I'm pretty sure I could eat this every day for weeks and never get tired of it . All of the other Mcconies have been great but this one off of Lacey Blvd has gone to crap over the years. It used to be perfect. Now the staff is rude, lettuce was rotten, brown and slimy and they can't ever seem to get sandwiches correct more times than not. Things as simple as just not adding a certain topping to a sandwich. If you ask them to remake the sandwich when they put something you are allergic to on it, they will say yes but then right in front of you through the front counters window, pick off the ingredient that wasn't supposed to be on the sandwich with their hands and then re wrap the sandwich in a new wrap and tell you that they remade you a new sandwich. If you tell the myou literally just saw them pick off the ingredients and not actually make a new sandwich, they will just take it back and continue to pick off any of the remaining old ingredient out of the sandwich, re-wrap it a second time and give it back to you while telling you that they made you a new one. This is quite literally a health a safety risk for customers and they need to have a health inspection done. Not sure if new family members took over this place over the last few years or so but they are no longer the same amazing sandwich place to tell people about when they visit the area. I have continually tried my luck at this place whenever someone else offers to buy me lunch but every time the order is either messed up or the lettuce is rotten. The only reason I did no give this more than 2 stars is due to their previous reputation 5 or more years ago being absolutely perfect. Been coming here ever since it used to be in the old building with the lunch counter and a few booths. The bread. SO amazing. Don't get me wrong, the sandwich ingredients are solid too. Meat is always flavorful, the lettuce and tomatoes always fresh, and the cheese is never dried out. But...the bread, man. All the great flavor of a hoagie roll, but without the crusty and dry exterior. It's like they somehow made an entire loaf out of the soft and pillowy parts of a normal loaf of bread. If you are in the area, just drive by all the franchise sandwich chains and come straight to any of the Meconis locations. Only way this place could get any better is if they started offering a bacon egg cheese served on these sandwich rolls. read more

Tuna sub was not very good, and very pricey. The sub was partially cut in half and the tuna was sparsely put in, leaving it very "breaddy" with not much filling. (I wouldn't order it again). The sub at subway was much better, and it isn't something I eat very often. read more

Great sandwiches. High quality ingredients and fresh bread. Nice building. Good parking. My main gripe is the staff at this location in particular. They aren't nice. I don't know if they're too cool for school or if they're just exasperated by the thought of having to simply take your order, but I find myself going other places even though I prefer their sandwiches. The tables are also often not wiped clean and have food remnants from other customers, which is kind of surprising considering they have no problem asking for tips every time you pay for your order. Jersey Mikes and Firehouse may be more expensive, but at least they seem happy to have you as a customer. read more

Was told they couldn't do that, wasn't offered a replacement, was blown off, told that footage showed they put meat on the sandwich (implying I was lying, I guess for that big $14 payday), and couldn't be told when I could speak to a manager("maybe next week"). I have had Meconi's often both as a singular customer and ordering box lunches for work training events. I have been impressed by their professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to get it right every time. When I order online it is always ready when they say it will be and they have a great selection of sodas and chips. One of these days I will be having soup because the types they advertise seem so delicious! Their roll (house made) is delicious and my favorite part. The "full" sandwich is the equivalent to two normal sandwiches and excellent if you are looking for two lunches or need something for lunch and dinner. Read some reviews on yelp and thought I would give this place a try. It was actually pretty far off of the five freeway, but the reviews were great and I thought I really needed a sub! There was no line and the service was very quick. I ordered a pastrami with Swiss. Cosmo style, heated up.The bread was tasty. The pastrami and cheese both were pretty good. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. I asked for pepper Cheaneys on the side. I had a bowl of their soup dessert. Minestrone. The broth was pretty light and didn't have a lot of flavor. I've never had a fresh Meconi's sub and even then I think they are pretty good despite the bread being a little harder...jam packed with tons of filling and so much mayo. Got to try a fresh sub today and it did not disappoint. I opted for the turkey and it was everything I had wanted (maybe missing a lil extra mayo tho). My partner got the Italian and enjoyed it, got my mom a half Italian and a half roast beef. She liked them both but liked the Italian more. I think what I like most about them is the bread, it's different than the other sub shops, the taste of the bread does make the difference. Also, all the sandwiches are sort of the same except for the protein and some sauce (they clearly found the winning combination). Grabbed a snickerdoodle cookie too since...it's fresh baked supposedly and cause I always need to end everything with a sweet note. Cookie was just ok, crispy exterior, soft middle, tons of cinnamon sugar but I don't think I'd get another. If you ask anyone that grew up around the area where you can find the best sandwiches in town, they will most likely say "MECONI'S!!!" I grew up eating Meconi's sandwiches on days when my parents had the occasional lazy day of not wanting to prepare a home cooked meal, or for my siblings and I to bring on our school field trips. My go-to sandwich is their Italian which contains salami, capicola, provolone, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, Italian oil, and oregano in between their sub roll that is baked fresh in house. I can't really pinpoint what makes this sandwich so good since all the ingredients are tasty but their bread is a big factor on why I love Meconi's so much, which is usually soft and warm. Personally, I think these sandwiches are reasonably priced and worth it. Also, their pasta salad is one of my favorite pasta salads of all time. Its made with al dente noodles, black olives, red peppers and thick slices of salami in a tangy vinaigrette dressing. It is just delicious. read more
