We stayed in a small queen room which had been upgraded. It was nice. Then when I got up the next morning I felt a sharp pain in my big toe. Looking up at me with tail poised was a little bitty scorpion...and I grabbed a shoe, leaving the tiny carcass for housekeeping to tend to. I discovered that I am not allergic--and wasn't worried. When we checked out via text I informed management about the incident and received a text back checking on my condition. The manager, Xavier Flores, requested a follow up call on Monday to make sure that I was OK and get details about the incident. He promised to follow up with their pest control service and figure out how the critter appeared... Mr Flores said this was the first scorpion report since his arrival on staff. So another scorpion encounter is probably unlikely. But if you are worried...turn on the lights and look before going barefoot in the morning The staff get five stars

You lie back and look out the sliding glass door with a view of gorgeous trees and sky while the jets massage you. Loved it! My dogs loved chasing each other in the yard. It's really beautiful. Lots of Hydrangeas. The walk down the river path is easy. There were two single kayaks and a double and also a canoe. They have a large assortment of life vests too. We canoed to the Monte Rio dog beach and it took about 4 mins. Very close. I would definitely bring blankets or thick sheets to cover furniture if you have dogs. We were there in Nov and it was wet and there are lots of leaves. Not muddy but it was nice to not have to worry about dog prints on furniture. The owner is super nice and takes pride in his home. He called us an hour after we checked in to make sure everything was okay. The housekeeper had told him one of the propane tanks was out. He told us and said he'd replace it when he got back. We said not to worry because there are two bbqs. The next day after we were playing in the yard we saw a new propane tank on front porch. He didn't bother us. He just quietly put it there and left. He just got back from his honeymoon but took the time to make sure all was well. You will LOVE this place. Heater worked great, views amazing, pretty bright paintings done by the owner, nice large washer and dryer, store around the corner, wonderful hot tub...Paradise!

Grandma's house is conveniently located in Monte Rio half way between Occidental and Guernville…read more The large property easily accommodated our group of ten and had great onsite perks: hot tub, games, water todays, canoes/kayaks, inflatable tubes, pool table, movies, grill, washing machine and dryer. Parking is easy and the huge advantage is stepping outside and walking directly onto your own dock or beach on the river. A majority of us had such a great time at the house there was little reason to leave. The dog loved it too. Some of the items inside the house are older and maintain the essence of this historic place. This may not be for everyone, like the taxidermied animals, but we thought it gave it a great 80's/ 90's charm. Would rent the house again if staying in the area with a large group.

Its a large quiet property. It was previously a bed and breakfast called Grandmas, a resturaunt / bar called Angelos and probably about 100 years old. The manager treated us very poorly, saying all sorts of bizzarre things to my 8 year old daughter and I. He refused a refund although we had not used the room at all and had booked last minute, five hours earlier that same day at noon. First he said he couldn't refund without his employer's permission. I requested he ask the owner and he behaved very angrily and asked if "You want to be my boss? Will you pay me? Buy my food, my bread, my roti?" It was absolutly bizarre and such an obvious show. Finally I went and knocked on the owner's door, a nice lady who lives on top of some of the units and she offered a refund immediately. The manager is not doing his job maintaining the property and, when I mentioned there were none of the normal postings about fire safety, hotel licensing, etc., he accused me of using my "big city power to beat up on small business" advising I should go beat up on a corporate hotel. After he finally refunded my one night stay and we were driving away, he actually yelled "Get the F%&k out!", taking a picture of my car while we drove away. I am in Guerneville a dozen times a year and I have never experienced anything so sketchy.

The room was right next to the road so very loud (I can handle that if all else was good). We called the front office the day we got there and shocker they never called us back. This place is non-refundable and the pictures do NOT match reality. So them not ever calling us back is a big lessons learned. This is the only review I have ever wrote but to me it's worth my time since this little experience wa s very costly without any reward.

I was born here 38 years ago and I have never seen so many homeless families and such a lack of decent housing options in my life. It is unfair and completely out of control.
