A good friend of mine got married along the cliffs at Salt State Park, just north of Fort Ross Lodge, years ago. It was a small intimate ceremony. Almost all attendees stayed at Fort Ross Lodge, which was the perfect place for us to relax and spend time together before and after the wedding. Since then, I've gone to FRL at least three times, and every time has been memorable. Each room has its own special features: a hot tub, a wood-burning fireplace, outdoor grill and/or amazing view. The rooms and grounds in general are peaceful and comfortable. I sleep so well there. I also love the sauna and the convenience store across the street. I know there are other places to stay in the area, but none seem to have the same charm as FRL. Finally, the manager, Josh, and all the people who work there are outstanding. They communicate clearly and often. When I book reservations, the confirmation emails and follow-up phone calls are helpful and reassuring. Josh is responsive and cares about the quality of your experience, which is one of the reasons I keep going back. Don't take my word for it, check it out yourself :)

Perfect place! Quiet, calm, cozy, great view! A great place for a family vacation. Hot tube in the backyard overlooking the ocean, what could be better? Only a grill in addition to this and there is one too! Either way this place deserves 5 stars. But for the money you charge, it would be nice to get a little more comfort. A queen size bed is not enough for the most expensive room. I would like to have slippers so that I could go to the hot tub, because the asphalt around is quite cold.

Beautiful view! It happened to be rainy. We stayed in number 4. The rooms are cozy. Wall mounted TV. Direct TV works well. There is a dvd player. Keurig with plenty of teas but 2 French roast and 2hazelnut pods and 2 decaf coffee. We had a gas stove in room controlled by wall thermostat. Linens comfortable. Cozy robes. Bed is firm. Microwave and mini fridge. Internet works pretty well. View is amazing. Staff quickly checked us in and were friendly. Cons:Main hot tub out of order. There is another hot tub by 9 can use but looks like someone staying there. There is a small grocery across the street. I wouldn't rely on the store though they were not closed yet 40 mins left and didn't want to make sandwiches. No where to get more coffee pods. It says the heat is controlled on the thermostat, we literally had a small pilot light burn the whole time and it did not warm the room. New flooring vinyl but popping up in 1 place , bathroom is 90's or even late 80's. Everything works just quirks like the sink has no stopper and the water comes out sideways. No cell service. Overall the view is amazing. It's dog friendly you get your stars from me for that -even though we didn't bring ours. If I ever came back I would bring coffee pods , shampoo, a space heater, something for dinner and breakfast. In my mind I'm probably not staying here again.

I like it here. The staff is warm, friendly and accommodating. The grounds are clean and very quiet. The room is comfortable and warm. Enough things were provided in the room for us to grill up a steak, shrimp and vegetables, and we had a lovely dinner. Nothing much around here for miles, make sure you grab stuff to eat from the stores in Bodega or Gualala before arriving. The Fort Ross Store across the street is great too, in case you forgot something. There are a few restaurants nearby (2), but you won't get much of a selection... so if you're coming here for several days I'd plan on grilling unless you want to drive for an hour or more each time you want to eat.

My boyfriend and I just spent a couple days at Fort Ross Lodge and it was such a lovely get away- The room was so comfortable and cozy, with a stunning view and trail to the beachside, The staff was very kind and accommodating, shout out to Anthony for all of his help during our stay!! The deli across the street serves awesome sandwiches and has tons of snacks, and if you are looking for a fine dining experience check out Coast Kitchen!

The service was awesome, our server Evan quickly got us to our seats and took our orders. We tried the oyster epiphany (fresh oyster with lime ginger and wasabi dressing) I wasn't a big fan of oysters due to its fishy after taste. But this place nailed it! The sauce really paired well, oysters were soo fresh I could go for another round. We also ordered homemade sourdough as starters, the whipped butter was very light , not too overwhelming. The sourdough was soft and the poppy seeds add texture to it. The pairing works so well, we asked for another refill. Now to the main course, the fish tacos were on point, not very memorable to be honest. But the pasta!!! omg you could tell it was hand made, the shrimp were fresh and cleaned it wasn't fishy at all. I was expecting it to be a tomato based pasta, but the sun dried tomato gave such a nice additional profile, sweet and sourness to the truffle based pasta sauce. Last but not least, let's talk about the view! It is not everyday you got to see the end of the river and the start of Pacific Ocean. it was such a stunning view. Overall it is a 5/5 experience!

Our first visit the cabins were a bit too "rustic" for our liking, and we were grateful to only there for one evening. The linens were clean and the bed was comfortable, but the bathroom was TINY, and the window would not shut due to the lean of the cabin. We enjoyed the fresh air throughout the evening, and had plenty of blankets to keep warm. The view of the Ocean and mouth of the River was amazingly beautiful to watch the sunset and we have views from our room and the restaurant. The restaurant was amazing, and what really made the experience next level. I can't remember what we ate, but I have longed to go back remembering it was delicious. We did stay the second time in their Oceana room in the home collection which was much more our style. There were no issues with the windows or doors, there was a private hot tub, and the deck was much more spacious. We had a kitchen to cook in, including a full size refrigerator and oven. Since our last stay the common beach area had been hit by a rough storm and had changed the landscape significantly. It was a reminder that Mother Nature can change things in an instant, and never take it for granted. Having the private space of the home collection made this less of a hit on our experience since we didn't need to use it. The restaurant delivered again with an amazing meal, beet salad, filet mignon, and bread service. I look forward to our next trip and plan to bring my parents out and spend some quality time together, listening to music, playing games, watching the ocean, and eating amazing food. This time I will attempt to take more photos, and update my review.

We arrived a little early which the owner said was fine (they live onsite) but they were out to lunch upon checkin. They told us our room number and the door was unlocked. It had a nice deck with umbrella, but the weather was cold and foggy so we didn't use it. Room was nice but a bit dark and we could hear every word the upstairs guests were saying, so recommend staying on top units, even though you'll need to walk around in the summer to the river. The unit had a fridge, microwave, small stove, sitting area with tv, and small bathroom. It was a bit cold as the fake fireplace didn't work, but the AC / heater in wall unit did work. We couldn't sleep with it on because it was quite noisy. The Inn is in a pretty location right on the river but they have tons of weddings in the summer so it might be overrun with wedding guests and the ceremony / reception if you go (be sure to ask about it). They have a nice gazebo with coffee and ice and an outdoor fire pit which we didn't use. It's right in the town of Monte Rio which has a grocery store, coffee shop, movie theater in town. We golfed at Northwoods which is about 10 minutes down the road, and had dinner across the bridge at a German place which was quite good. At over $300/night, not sure it was worth it, but it was our anniversary and something different. The owners were very nice and improving the property. Pros: this was a very charming estate and the staff was beyond kind to both of us and our pup. He was welcome everywhere except the dining room, the pool and spa. The room was very cute and clean. The only downside for me and my allergies is that there is wood fireplace in each room. The bathroom had plenty of hot water. The breakfast was from 8-10 am in the dining room and had a decent meat-less spread. Toast, bagels, oatmeal and toppings, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, fruit salad, coffee, tea assortment and juices. The grounds are super cute and weather permitting there is a movie playing on a projector with complimentary s'mores to cook on the outdoor wood fire. Since we had our dog, we didn't use the pool or spa. "Aunt Kay" we interacted with the most and was so kind to both of us and Dio. She made our stay! Not only was she informative but also checked in on us when we we'd pass through the lobby. Dio was a big fan of her. Cons: if you have allergies or are sensitive to wood smoke, this is not your destination. Again, there are wood burning fireplaces in each room and a large fire pit by the movie. The room we stayed at is across from the pool and it can get noisy. You can also hear everyone that walks in front of your room. Along with that there is a lot of wildlife, so you may need ear plugs. If you need to sleep in the dark, the front blinds are going to still let in light, so bring a sleep mask. Update: we got a text that I forgot my socks in the room.
