Unfortunately I didn't actually get to stay at this Lodge, my review is based on customer service. I was bikepacking North on the Shoreline and had a serious mechanical issue, which prevented me from reaching Ocean Cove. I had booked my reservation through booking.com (I highly recommend you avoid making the same choice, they're awful) and needed to cancel the reservation. The manager at Ocean Cove was extremely helpful in navigating a late-cancellation and ensuring I received a full refund. He went above and beyond helping to make this happen by contacting booking.com directly, which I had already attempted several times before he tried calling. So my 5 stars is for superior customer service and an extremely helpful and competent manager. Next time I'm bikepacking I will hopefully get to stay here and enjoy the actual Lodge! I would definitely book with them in the future based on their support. read more

Our room, #14 was very modest and slightly run down but clean. No mini frig or microwave. Other single bed rooms had frig and microwave when i peered into empty room windows. Friend has room 18, king room upstairs with hot tub. Really nice, updated and a much different experience than our room. The restaurant food was delicious, and the staff very friendly. I would return, but not to room 14, it needs updating. Otherwise friendly, beautiful scenery and accommodates dogs. read more

We stayed here last weekend. The room was very small and everything was a bit dated. It seemed pricey ($200+) for what we got. But I wouldn't be complaining, except for this: The electric breaker tripped sometime in the middle of the night, cutting off the wall heater and the bedside lamps. The room temperature was 55F. I went out about 5:30 to 6:00 a.m. but I could not locate the manager. There was no night bell or note. At 7:00 a.m. I found her. She said it was a problem because the breaker was in the adjoining room, and she was reluctant to wake the guest. Luckily he turned up, and his power was also out. The manager reset the breaker, but it went out twice more and would not stay on. The manager told us that she did not have the phone number of the owner, which was hard to believe. We emailed him to ask for a refund, but he refused. Caveat emptor! read more

Hotel = no good The hotel is like a time capsule from the past--and not in a charming way. You'll get a physical key to your room, which feels like unlocking a secret vault, only to find a room about the size of a broom closet. My room came with not one, but *two* space heaters because the wall heater apparently retired in the '90s. Need to call the front desk? Good luck, there's no phone. Want Wi-Fi? Be ready for a daily scavenger hunt for new codes. And the "TV"? It's a computer monitor that looks like it was repurposed from a 2010 tech museum exhibit. But if you're still intrigued, don't worry--the lopsided box-spring mattress will complete your journey back in time with its well-used charm. read more

This place is amazing. Super sweet and welcoming family owned. Set up the suite for my husbands birthday and had everything ready when we arrived. Rooms are clean and newly renovated. We didn't know what to expect since it's our first time in the area and based from the pics, this lodge is a little outdated. When we checked in, we were greeted warmly by Vito. Our room had a very nice view of the ocean, esp the sunset !! Though the room was small, it had everything we need. We had such great night sleep because of the very comfortable bed!! "wow!" Let me start by saying we will NEVER stay at Ocean Cove Lodge again!!! We booked a 2-night stay here for my 90-year-old mother while we stayed at the beautiful campground across the street. We wanted her close to us but to be comfortable and warm, far from what my mother experienced! The first night was ok. She slept well and she was cozy. The next morning, we brought her food and checked on her to open her door to dark and freezing cold!!! Blankets over her head and shivering, I asked why it was so cold. She told me she didn't know as her heater and television went off at 8 pm the previous night. She couldn't contact the office or us as her phone was dead, nor could she walk very far. So I walked to the office and asked the new owner if there was a reason my mom had no heat or power in her room all night; she said hold on, was gone for about 15 minutes, came back, and said, "ok." Not ever apologizing for the inconvenience. My husband went down to speak with her and find out if they could compensate for the inconvenience, and her response was a very hard no, so she walked away. If you are considering a comfortable stay by the ocean, a tent is your best bet!!!!!! Let me not forget to say the ONLY good thing about this place was the Bar and Grill customer service was amazing, very respectful and kind. I would give them a 10 all day. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised once we arrived. Older quaint little place. The lodge had everything we needed. Fridge, microwave bar and grill with good food. Directly across the street was ocean cove campgrounds. We spent part of the day there. It was so peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed eating lunch and having a few beers. While we were blessed to have and enjoy such a beautiful view. While back at our room we had an amazing view as well. The staff was super friendly. Oh and they are pet friendly. Have only ate at the restaurant and the bar, so that's all I can report on. The food was really good, and the beer selection and prices were nice. On a nice day it is enjoyable to sit out front, on bad days the inside lounge area works, but it is the room back behind the restaurant that is a hidden gem, with a pool table (typical bar box) and comfortable seating. We had an amazing stay here! Owner Tim and staff are super friendly. Economy room 119$ a night. Be warned, room is very small. Ideal for a couples romantic weekend getaway. Double bed, no fridge or microwave (no problem for us). Meticulously maintained grounds. We are super appreciative to be able to stay over here for that price. Sit at the bar, eat your clam chowder, hear the ocean and stare at the ocean. The view is better than Timber Cove from the inside at least. Try the burger and or the ribs. The room is clean, comfortable, and quiet. The shower has nice blue tile and thankfully no tub like Ft. Ross Lodge. At 7:00 am, Tim the manager sets out the coffee. Sit down, drink some coffee and hear all the great stories Tim has from living out here for many years. Ft. Ross Lodge ad Timber Cove have changed management too many times to count. But Tim is is the rock that doesn't move. Then drive 5 min to Stump Beach and walk out the point to feel the ocean spray on you. read more

Spent one night here for my friend's birthday. We arrived just after sunset, and had an amazing view from the bar where we celebrated a bit and ordered some food. Clam chowder here is GOOD. It is a bar and grill though so don't expect fancy. The waitress brought out a brownie with a candle for our friend's bday - how nice! Then we headed to the room. They let us take our wine glasses with us. There were 4 of us girls and a dog; the room had 2 beds and it was pretty small, but it worked out for us. Everything is pretty outdated, but it was clean enough. The beds were a bit uncomfortable and the fridge made noise all night. This is a comfortable, affordable, and well-located place to stay in Jenner near Timber Cove. It's not fancy, but plenty clean, friendly, quiet, and pleasant. Great view from the bar and grill outdoor seating. We came for a wedding at Timber Cove and wanted to save some dollars by staying here. We did and it worked out great! Tim the manager was very kind and helpful throughout our stay, giving us ideas of hikes and beach excursions as well as sharing stories from his life and the surrounding area. This small motel met my needs, but was a bit overpriced for the quality. The room was clean and well-kept, but had not been touched from a remodeling standpoint since the 80s. Shower head was the mist, sandblast style. Cable TV was good. Wi-Fi was average. Dad was old but comfortable. it was early spring and quite cold at night, but the room climate was also comfortable. No air conditioning oh, so if it's hot outside it will not be cool in here. Management is extremely friendly and very helpful. Attached restaurant is fantastic, five stars for sure. I stopped here for lunch on my way home from Salt Point. This is the second time I have done so, the first the summer before COVID. I noticed last summer it was closed ( likely COVID) and was do disappointed. I had the fish and chips and they were sooo good! The server/ owner/ chef? Not sure, was super friendly as was the hostess. They gave me the Wi-Fi password without me even asking. I sat outside with a view of the ocean. The table next to me was clearly working remotely via laptop. I texted my Director that I would be working remotely from there in the Fall and sent a photo. She got a good laugh out of that as I am a preschool teacher who, for obvious reasons, can not supervise children long distance...let alone change diapers via zoom lol! Honestly, it is WAY over priced for the accommodations. We would have left once we saw the room, however, we were simply ready to relax and not fight for a refund. It is very dated and had a moldy smell to it. The mattress needs replacing, I didn't sleep but maybe an hour due to the uncomfortableness as it dips in the middle and is extremely bouncy. The floors are soft, to the point we thought we might fall through. The shower head came to my husbands chest. For the price, a renovation is desperately needed! Tim is really beginning to leave his mark on this lodge. The accommodations this time was one of two rooms on the second floor. This room was worth the upgrade. We made a reservation on their website and wrote an email inquiring about early check-in. We got a quick response saying that it was possible. As time approached the reservation, our activity that would have brought us to the area got canceled. We wrote to all three of the emails found for Ocean Lodge asking to cancel. We did not hear anything for two days after writing in several times in those two days. We finally had to call in on the third day. The person who answered the phone definitely knew that we have been trying to email, but casually said that they do not take cancellations over email. No where on their reservation confirmation email nor their website does it state that we can NOT email to cancel. How are customers supposed to know this secret policy? Their email and website both clearly say that we can either call or use the email address stated. At the very least an email response indicating that we can ONLY call-in would be helpful. This has left a very negative experience with the customer service at this lodge. I hope other customers May learn from our experiences and have a better one. I have definitely learned always to go through a third-party hotel booking website! read more

I was visiting my sister in Sacramento, and we decided to make a trip to the coast, to get away from the heat. Called Ocean Cove Lodge and booked two rooms for one night with Tim. The rooms were clean and spacious, and we were able to get our rooms next to each other. The place is pet friendly, and even had a little dog park. Had a spectacular dinner at the Ocean Cove Lodge Bar and Grill. A matter of fact, I had the best calamari, that I have ever had. The continental breakfast was a nice touch, and the coffee was excellent. I made the mistake of leaving some of my property, and Tim notified me and graciously made arrangements to ship everything to me. If you are ever in or around Jenner California, and need a place to stay, you have to book with them. Was taking a walk in the neighborhood I was at the camp. I was walking by thinking "nice area " as it's my first time here . I was trying to find service to tell my mother that I made it here ok, So she doesn't worry. I walked up to the restaurant and lodge and was thinking wow maybe I'll check out this place next time I'm here. I walked inside to ask if there is a place that catches service in the area or if the person knew If there was a place I could catch some wifi. He told me no so I said " ok thank you" and proceeded to walk out. I barely made it down the stairs to my husband and dog when he walks out again. He says "I don't want you guys hanging around here " .... Ummm we were about to leave u didn't even let me make it down the stairs to exit..? Anyways ... I have been to this lovely lodge on a few occasions. I am pleased to report that each time, I thoroughly enjoyed my brief holiday. Too often travel creates unnecessary stress and frustration. But, arriving at a place like Ocean Cove brings a sense of rest and comfort. I am thankful for the consistency of service, cleanliness, and cost. For the record, you can hear your neighbors (if they're banging around) and there is nothing lavish/fancy about this place. HOWEVER, in its' simplicity, IT IS extraordinary. OCEAN COVE LODGE is located on the legendary Route One, six miles north of Fort Ross as the crow flies, and north of Stillwater Cove, and just a couple of hundred feet to the north of the grocery store called, "OCEAN COVE GENERAL STORE." This store is located at a right-angle bend in Route One. OCEAN COVE LODGE occupies a huge grassy area at the eastern edge of Route One, and so it is hard to miss. If you drive too far and discover that you are in Salt Point State park, that means that you've driven past OCEAN COVE LODGE. OCEAN COVE BAR & GRILL. I describe Ocean Cove Bar & Grill and the grounds that are in front of the motel suites at its own, dedicated location on the YELP website. This location is called, "Ocean Cove Bar & Grill. THE SUITES. About a dozen suites are situated in back (just to the east) of a large square grassy area. Our suite had a gas stove that is built to look like an old-fashioned wood-burning stove. Inside the stove, are non-burnable models of wooden logs. The suite has a little refrigerator and a fancy lamp on a cantilever arm and cables, a small couch that can double as a bed, and a huge double bed with a fancy blanket and fancy bed-cover (the kinds of bed covers that you can buy in the upscale bedroom section of Macy's). The suite also has a coffee machine with coffee powder. You can park right in front of your suite. The bedroom and the "water closet" are all clean and the walls are spotless. A flatscreen TV is mounted on the wall, and I spent a half hour after sunset watching a program about country western stars. The program had performances by George Jones, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Crystal Gale, Tom T. Hall, Linda Ronstadt, and Bellamy Brothers. When we first arrived, I watched part of a movie (Expendables-2), which stars Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. THE FRONT OFFICE. The front office is situated at the center of the line of motel suites. The office has apparel for sale, and I bought a handsome khaki-colored cap with a raised fabric design showing the tail of a swimming whale. The cap also has fancy colorful writing that reads, "Ocean Cove Bar & Grill." Several types of lighthouse models are on display, and I know that at least one of these is for sale (it is a large wooden lighthouse that is only $20). Also on display in the front office are several toy motorcycles (and so, motorcyclists will feel welcome at Ocean Cove Lodge), but I don't know if these motorcycles are for sale. Early each morning, you can enter the front office (even if the manager is not there) and help yourself to a free breakfast of: instant oatmeal (in envelopes), blueberry yogurt, tons of coffee, and Danish pastries. The manager/owner is outgoing in personality and, if encouraged, will share the story of his career. It is a story of "career-success." Before becoming the manager/owner, he worked for about a decade at another motel on Route One. He is the owner of a couple of patents and he knows the rules of surveying. At an earlier time, his job involved logistics. The take-home lesson for me (which I had not earlier realized) is that, if your job is to manage a motel that is in the countryside, you really need to be as knowledgeable as a person with the job-title of, "City Manager" or with the job title of, "Mayor." On a recent spontaneous "March Madness" road trip down Highway 1 from Seattle towards San Fran, the journey was taking a bit longer than expected. While approaching Jenner CA, it was getting dark and I was in need of rest, food, and a stiff drink. By shear luck, I came across the Ocean Cove Lodge. This local lodging is full of character along with a laid-back retro charm featuring great nearby cove views, a fantastic Bar and Grill, sculptural play area for the kids, and nicely updated rooms at great rates. Owner Tim the "Dude" is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about local history and scenic sites. I will definitely stay again in the near future and check out the Glass House per Tim's Architectural suggestion. Super clean, stocked, and cozy rooms for the price. Dog friendly and space to park our pick ups and cargo trailers as we stopped over on our drive South. A bit disappointed with this hotel. Despite the view and a nice owner. The jacuzzi was filthy. Not just a few leaves in it but murky and walls were all dirty. I loved this hotel along one of the most beautiful stretches of the NorCal coast. Clean comfy room that included a couch, fridge and microwave along with the king size bed. Nice gas stove brought the heat. Dog friendly and super sweet dog park on the premises. Near gorgeous Stillwater Park and other amazing beaches. The wifi is very weak, but that worked for me as it cut me off just enough from civilization - I def needed that! Vast view of the Pacific Ocean from our room. Just a stunningly peaceful and relaxing time. Nice simple continental breakfast, retro feel, sweet gift shop, restaurant for breakfast and lunch on premises. Taking off one star because the wifi really is sketchy. Great for me on this run but would be frustrating if I felt a strong need for it. Older, dated establishment and nothing fancy, but it's definitely affordable and quiet. Great views of the ocean from across the street. Our room was clean, including the carpet, and the grounds nicely maintained. There are no phones in the rooms and no cell service (boo, AT&T), but they do have newer flat screen TVs with satellite service and free WiFi if you absolutely need to be connected. Convenient bar and grill in the parking lot with welcoming service and decent, homestyle food. While the grill doesn't serve breakfast, the lodge lobby does have coffee, muffins, and fruit available. The room also has a mini-fridge in case you pick up stuff from the nearby Ocean Cove store. Considering overnight options are limited in this neck of the woods and what is available is at least twice the price of rooms here, we'd recommend it. read more

Our trip started out fine at the Ocean Cove lodge until our little fireplace quit working. We were informed that the propane company had not delivered propane. We were given a little heater that worked fine. Sunday morning my wife went to use the hot tub and she was informed that it had been turned off due to the cost of running it. They also used some strong unappealing chemical for cleaning the room which required us to keep a window open to fumigate. If you are sensitive to smells, this is not the place to go. The towels were paper thin. We are very easy going but it seemed that unfortunately the tide is against this little place far away from the crowds. Other than that, we had a nice experience. Amazing! I recently lost my dog in Jenner and used Ocean Cove Lodge as my base in my search for her. Tim, the owner, lovingly welcomed me and my other dog as we stayed and searched for her. He was so kind and compassionate. He knows the area so well--that really helped in narrowing down my search. Kim, who works at the restaurant, helped us out, too. It's one thing to stay at a place with nice rooms, wonderful views, good food, and Wifi, but it's quite another to find such a charming place with such friendly, kind and compassionate people. They have a fenced in area for pets, and that's great to have when you are traveling with pets. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! Oh, and by the way, we found out lost dog. Yay. read more

Ocean Cove Lodge is located near Fort Ross and Salt Point State parks in one of the most magical stretches of Highway 1. It's an oceanfront property (no access to water) with enchanting views. The rooms are a good size and well organized: refrigerator, microwave, sitting area. The most important: the rooms are spotless, and the beds are very comfortable. The ground and the hotel are well maintained, and you can see Tim, the owner, with his workers walking and checking everything around since early morning. The establishment is quite old, but it's kept very well, and there is a good nostalgic feeling of "good old one." There are a restaurant and bar on-site with live music in the evening. Tim is accommodating and very pleasant to talk to. I'd recommend it for those who drive by and those who want to spend a few romantic days by the ocean. read more

This mid-grade old hotel with the weak WIFI which was built way back in the 1950's, while having a great ocean location near Fort Ross, was deficient and NOT WORTH the high cost of staying there in several ways: The rooms and bathrooms are very small and plain, very Spartan in furnishings and definitely NOT worth the $200-250++ dollars PER NIGHT cost that they are charging on the weekends ($150-180 Sun-Thurs), which, in consideration for what you are actually getting at this hotel is OUTRAGEOUS. (These rooms are actually worth about $65-75 even in todays' dollars). Oh, by the way, the WI FI absolutely stinks! In addition to the weak WI FI, the tiny 1/2 gallon "environmentally sensitive" toilet get stopped up several times and the clock-radio broke and was never fixed. We complained several times, but were never satisfied. WE were told by Tim that they were fixed, but soon learned that that was BS. With no one to help, I had to request & get my own plunger and plunge my own toilet--really great family fun! Tim the hotel/restaurant owner (while being a nice super guy) in my opinion was taking unfair profit advantage since there are not many other hotels in the area to choose from so it is time to gouge, gouge and gouge some more. The only other hotel that is nearby "Timberlake Cove" is much NICER, but even more expensive at OVER $300-$400 dollars PER NIGHT!!. Our 1st night we ate at Tim's parking lot "BAR AND GRILL"(the ONLY place to eat within walking distance) and it was TRULY unacceptable, really poor, almost pig slop that looks like food.. UGGH!.. This eatery is basically a run-down reconverted old greasy spoon offering mid-low quality cheap eats. Forget about the Clam Chowder sans Clams! Poor quality! There were several TV's blasting some 49er football game. While this place is great if you want to drink some beers and get toasted as a sports fan, it sucks a BIG ONE when taking a family as we did.. Also, the wonderful "Playground" (If you have children) looks like it needs to be repaired and has been abandoned for about 30 years, especially the old unsafe sheet metal slide and the uncomfortable single wood plank board swing set. Wow... For the amount of money these guys are getting, spending a few dollars to upgrade something for the children --at least fix up these items-- would be better than what is there. At least a new paint job. .something ... anything??would have been nice but was not to be... My daughter was so afraid to slide down the slide out of fear it would collapse or she would get a splinter in her butt. Lots of fun! BEST ADVICE: Unless you have a lot of money to blow sky high for mediocre accommodations and don't mind being REALLY TOTALLY taken advantage of with barely edible food --- just to stay at the ocean, drive on by this place as fast as you can. Now granted, to be fair... it is not the worst place on Earth, not at all ---it is just that-- ya know, for the high prices they are charging and what you are ACTUALLY getting for your money--it may be better to rethink this trip or you may be as dissatisfied as we were. BEST PART: HISTORIC FORT ROSS IS WELL WORTH SEEING THOUGH, REALLY BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC IMPERIAL RUSSIAN FORT THAT NEVER SAW BATTLE (1812-1949). THE STATE OF CA PARKS DID A REALLY MAGNIFICENT JOBS HERE. FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY AND A GREAT LEARNING ADVENTURE ABOUT HOW LIFE MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE FOR THOSE BRAVE RUSSIAN COLONISTS WHO LIVED SO MANY YEARS AGO.
