Exceptionally clean motel! rooms look newly renovated and are spacious and welcoming. A nice place for an overnight stay. Staff are friendly and welcoming too!

Meadowmont Lodge in Winter

Perfect little Inn right off Rt. 4 in Arnold. This place is walking distance to the main supermarket in town (Big Trees Market), and just across the street from the Snowshoe Brewing company, as well as a block from the Subway, Chinese Restaurant, and a local pharmacy. The Inn itself is small and simple, cute rooms arrayed around a small, central parking lot, and tucked underneath a row of huge old trees. We stayed here in part because it's super close to Calaveras Big Trees, as well as the Arnold Rim Trail. The rooms are comfortable, the shower had nice hot water, and the staff were great in helping us deal with the big snowstorm that hit while we were there. We would definitely stay again in the future!

Me and my fiancé found this place on a quick get away without our kids and we wanted to be close to some good hikes and wake up early, this was actually the cheapest too. The place is cozy because everything is close together the rooms are beautiful and the bedding is so nice, it's how you would decorate your own home. Only two other people were here when we got here then by 8pm it seemed to be full, everyone was so friendly! We ordered Chinese from down the street literally walking distance and it was some of the best Chinese I ever had I swear lol. Defiantly will be back now that we know of a reliable place to stay, close to a lot of things to do as well, can't wait to bring our kids here.

Mountain Town Charm

Stayed here for a brief ski trip. First off, let me start by saying that I love small motels. I grew up with them on various road trips, and after a long day on the road, these roadside inns were a big dose of home and comfort. To sleep on a soft bed with clean sheets and to be able to shower and clean up, is such a fundamental need that we all crave for. Meadowmont Lodge is the quintessential mountain town motel. -Right on the highway, so easy in and out. -All door access is from the outside, which separates motels from hotels. -No frill amenities, which is totally fine for a 1-2 night stay. So motels aren't really designed to lounge in. They're meant to give you a good night's rest and to get you cleaned up so you feel invigorated for the next day. So they're not so plush with couches and large TV screens, a mini bar and room service. For certain outings I am glad to have this choice. What you do get here is a comfy and clean bed. The room is actually one of the more "modern" roadside motels that I've been in. Usually they are a bit out dated, and usually the smaller the town, the truer this will hold up. But this place breaks that stereotype. This place is much closer to a La Quinta or Best Western than it is to a Motel 6, which is super bare bones. And definitely probably the best mom/pop motel that I've been in. There's a small fridge and a microwave which are super conducive to a short trip. There's a Kuerig machine that I didn't use but thought it was a nice touch. The bathrooms aren't super stocked with toiletries like lotion and lavender smelling shampoo, but the towels were stocked and folded like a mega hotel. The bathroom is also small but perfectly so. Just enough room so you can move around without restriction. I hate when doors run into things cuz it's so tiny. Joyce the front office personnel was a breeze and a pleasure to interact with both on the phone and in-person. A strict no smoking policy and pets accepted is another big draw for me. This will now be a go to if staying overnight here on Highway 4. And thanks for maintaining what I've always loved with motel staying.

A place to clean your BBQ equipment, plates, etc..

Book our weekend here for 4th of July weekend a few weeks in advance. Units are right of Hwy 4, easy access to the supermarket, pizza restaurant and downtown Arnold. Units are pet friendly as we had two little dogs on our trip and best to call and request a room as not all rooms are for pet staying. Staff is very friendly and helpful on suggestion as we were looking for pet friendly park nearby. Rooms are simple, clean and comfortable.

Looking forward to booking another stay in the summer so we can take advantage of all the hiking around the facility.

We were looking for a safe and fun place for a family reunion. Somewhere I could actually bring all of our extended family.. (even those country ones you can't be seen in public with, lol) Found this amazing hotel online and can't say enough great things about it. Karl, our host disappeared after showing us all the amenities. He lives nearby and showed up swiftly when I had trouble lighting a fire in the living room. We had 6 kids that had their own suite area away from the adults. Thankfully there was wifi internet for them when they tired of playing outside. We had such a stellar time there at the historical wild west Avery hotel with no one looking over our shoulders ;) The big trees nearby were awesome too. My skiing fam hit the mountains not far away. Plus an Italian restaurant, a live entertainment bar, and cute lil coffee shop all in walking distance. The town of Murphy's was super cool also. I'm guessing they book up fast with the weddings and stuff. Don't hesitate!

It just feels like you stepped back in time and we really enjoyed that. Carl and all the staff connected with Avery Hotel have been nothing but accommodating to us. They were always willing to listen to any questions we had and were always checking in along the way. The freedom of the venue really pulls you in because it offered that blank canvas of possibilities and that is what we wanted because I love a challenge and had a very clear image of how I wanted my wedding to look like. They have extra decorations for you to use, endless linens, all shapes/sizes of plates, cups and bowls. You do need to clean up after yourself but that's the easy part. Now Carl, deserving of his own paragraph... he really takes care of you and checks up on you especially when it is week of. He was kind enough to let us come in earlier on check in day and greeted us as we pulled up ready to help in any way we needed. He gave us a quick tour and stepped away to let us have our special private weekend! We did have to text him a few times and was always quick to respond. Again, thank you Carl and staff for a beautiful and memorable venue.

The kitchen has a dining table for 4 and comes fully stocked with a full-size fridge, sink, microwave, pots & pans, silverware, plates, & everything else you could need to cook (the only thing they don't have is the food!). There's also a comfy living room with an electric fireplace, couches, games, books, & a bar. There's even a covered porch that overlooks a private wooded half-acre complete with 4 chairs to enjoy the serenity and beautiful trees. It's essentially your own private cabin to relax in & take in the gorgeous scenery. If you don't feel like cooking, there's plenty of nearby restaurants to choose from; Sequoia Woods Country Club & Big Trees State Park are 5-minute drives, with Bear Valley Ski Resort & Lake Alpine 30-minute drives. The personal touches & details that have been added make this feel "homey" and not at all like a normal hotel stay. This is most definitely our new go-to spot to stay when we're in the area. Not only does this save money (which can then be used for activities, souvenirs, etc.), but it also ensures that we can avoid trying to find a family friendly restaurant that will meet all of our needs. (Eating out with a 4 year old boy is not always the easiest task!) The owners, Sid & Kate, were hospitable to the extreme without being AT ALL intrusive. We saw them once or twice (walking their dog, working the little gift shop) and never felt "watched" or uncomfortable at all. I believe they genuinely would have done just about anything to make our stay wonderful. They definitely add a nice, homey touch to the experience. BUT... even without the wonderful customer service, the Bear's Lair would still be a great deal!! The cost is right, the accommodations terrific (great atmosphere, great ambiance, very clean), and the amenities were perfect. There was not a single thing that could have been done to make our stay more comfortable. When we booked the suite, they contacted us to confirm our reservation, provide us with the rental agreement & asked our son's age so that they could ensure there were age-appropriate games and toys for him. The owners were also extremely helpful when it came to recommending various restaurants for the one or two times we ate out, and they made some suggestions when I asked for nearby toy stores. Overall, it was very nice & we will definitely stay there again. In fact, next time we will probably invite friends and take advantage of the fact that the suite is perfectly set up for two couples / small families! *** Only "caution" - while the wi-fi is free (with the provided password), there is NO phone service if you are an AT&T customer. This did prove challenging for me as a small business owner because it was impossible to receive or return phone calls. Thankfully, I was able to keep in contact w/our business via email.
