Positives: We engaged Lucy (who served as the project manager) and the floor refinishers at MDL to refinish our cherry wood floor which extends through the living room, dining room and hallway area of our home. Also included was refinishing our oak floor in the office. After the first day I was a little worried about the dust but Lucy reassured me that their commercial vacuum cleaner would leave everything as it was before. I had contracted for two coats of varnish, but the floors really needed three. And after the third coat the floors truly looked great. The floor refinishers worked diligently for two days to finish the job and were both friendly and accommodating when needed. The vacuuming of the dust was good, but not complete. Negatives: One downside is that none of the MDL employees who came to the house spoke English so all negotiations had to go through calling Lucy who would relay information to the refinishers and then back to me. Another issue was that I was having a lot of vendors at the house so it was difficult to supervise the work as closely as needed. Hence, while a lot of the dust was removed, the just cleaned cloth portions of our plantation shutters throughout our living room and dining room were not vacuumed and had collected a lot of reddish dust. Also, a couple of electrical outlet plates were not reinstalled. Not a big issue, but attention to detail remains with the owner. Lastly, Lucy asked me to make the check out to her personally, instead of to the company. However, when I stated the check would be in the company's name since that's with whom I had the contract, she accepted my decision without further discussion. Overall recommendation: Despite a few drawbacks, the final product was excellent, the refinishers were hard workers and skilled at their jobs, and the price of the project was fair. We had LVP installed by MDL. To say we are disappointed would be understatement. First we specifically asked them to make sure the board patterns were spread out so not to have the same pattern touching over and over. I understand that can be difficult so we weren't expecting it to be perfect, but after day one we had areas with the excact same pattern touching on 4 to 5 boards. It was also apparent they were just opening a box and laying the whole box down instead of opening a few at a time to make sure there was a variety like we had asked. That night we opened and separated the rest of the boxes to help avoid that and again asked them to please try and make sure the boards were varied. Well that made it 1000 times worse. They literally used a stack of boards at a time which resulted in us having entire rooms with boards all having the exact same pattern! Upon futher inspection they left gaps in areas all over and areas where boards will not lay down flat. The t molding they installed was laid down broken. My son accidentally snagged the board when walking over the doorway. Not a big deal, but when i went to lay it back down i noticed it wouldn't lay flat. When i turned it over i saw they had actually laid it down broken! We had an entire extra board of t molding they could have cut and laid down. That is pure laziness on their part! They also didn't even install boards up to the dishwasher even after discussing it with them. I am disgusted by their work and hope this helps anyone avoid them in the future! read more
