Had an exam of my eyes. I guess you could say, my eyes were opened! I used to go to the optometrist, you know, the eye doctor on the corner or in the mall. Like lenscrafters and such. Or Costco. Whatever was convenient. This time, I had insurance, and it covers my eye exam. I didn't know that. It turns out that a lot of insurances cover the eye exam, so I don't have to pay out of pocket any more! Yeah! Okay, back to the review, so I look in the list of covered doctors, and it says that MD Eyecare is covered. Huh. It sounds better than the corner doctor, so I make an appointment. Very different from the mall eye doctor. This is an MD. it's a real REAL doctor, who does surgery on eyeballs. My doctor was Laura Howard, MD. Really nice, but most of all, way more professional than my last optometrist. This doctor focused (focused-- get it?) on my medical health of my eyeballs, not trying to sell me glasses and contacts and eye pictures and whatever. I mean, I don't mind the upsell, we all gotta eat, but its sometimes nice to have a MEDICAL doctor checking out the eyes. I think it made a difference and I think it was a better exam. Much nicer equipment too. The only downside was that the wait was a little longer than at the optometrist. Whole exam took about 1 hour which is not that bad but I would rather have the longer exam, as long as insurance is paying for it! read more

ok the eye doctors are all top of the line. HOWEVER. they are hiring ppl who have no experience in medical billing and you are constantly fighting with them! So I get a call from them wanting me to give them my "new insurance" info to them asap. Uh my insurance is the same as it has been for 10 yrs! I call back, leave a message and they never call back (typical). Today I get a bill for $600 for my yrly eye exam which is covered by my primary, Medicare and any extra is picked up by my supplemental, Blue Shield . duh. I call back and she tells me that Medicare said Blue Shield is the primary and Blue Shield said medicare is . I doubt this. she tells me to call Medicare. Medicare said they don't even have the claim!!! 2 reps looked for it. They said they are the primary and they would never say otherwise. They also said no notation that the eye clinic EVER called them! So I just left a message basically saying "you need to get it together and submit the claim and understand MEDICARE is billed first then Blue Shield ! suggestions- Hire professionals who have insurance experience or train these ppl well. read more

Just left the office I had a eye checkup recommended for my infected eye Dr. Jaffer M. Kattan and other staff were great help! They helped me contact my insurance so I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket my next appointment. They get a lot of bad reviews probably because of the wait times but its very packed with lots of clients but they were quick with checking me out and scheduling me:) read more

When dad passed away I was left to care for my blind disabled brother so I had to learn everything there was about caring for a prosthetic eye and I needed a new doctor to check him out. My brother was complaining of pain so when I saw MD EYE CARE on Chapman here in Orange near my home,I paid them a visit to make an appointment. It was my first time here and they do accept my brother's insurance so when they told me the next appointment for new patients would be in 3 months I was shocked. I told her my brother was in pain and we needed to see the doctor or someone much sooner but the receptionist promised to find a time sooner and would call us back within the hour. So I left there but neve heard from them again. I wouldn't recommend any new patients with anything urgent contacting this place. That's for sure. But it's these little things that reflect what to expect from them. read more

Eyelid surgery with Dr. Garcia. The surgery went fine, as it should. Here's my problem - Dr. Garcia has no interest, concern, or consideration for you as a patient. My first visit, appointment time was 1:30pm. It was close to 3pm by the time he walked in to the exam room. No apology for making me wait an hour and a half. He then spends 2 minutes with me and leaves. The day of the surgery, I was scheduled as his first surgery of the day, 7:30am. I've had surgeries before and normally I'm not really very nervous or anxious about them. But this was eye surgery, and for this one I was a bit anxious. Arrived at 6:00am as I was instructed. Got all prepped and ready to go by the nursing staff at the Pavilion (who were great by the way), by 7:00. So now, it's just waiting for Dr. Garcia to show up. The nurse promised me he would stop by prior to the surgery. 7:15, no doctor. Everyone else is there, ready. 7:30 comes and goes, still no Dr. Garcia. Again, this is the first surgery of the day - where is he? I'm laying there, nervous about eye surgery, getting more anxious and upset by the minute. And it was his office that told me 7:30am, again, where is he? 8:00am...still waiting. Finally, about 8:10, here he is, with a cup of coffee in his hand, wanders in like nothing. So I said, "Gee doctor, nice to see you for my 7:30 procedure. Glad you could make it". He could tell I was upset, you'd think he would have apologized or shown some concern. But no. Instead, he immediately became angry, grouchy, petulant, very short and curt. I had questions, he gave one-word answers. Other questions I had, he answered "look it up in the documents". I then said, "What, now YOU'RE mad at ME?" So very unprofessional. The surgery went OK, which it should, that's what he's paid for. So now, I have the post-op appointment. Again, 1:30 pm. He doesn't show up until over an hour, after 2:30pm. And again, no apology for being so late, no consideration at all for me or my time. I get that few doctors on earth are on time for appointments, but consistently over an hour late? And completely unapologetic or concerned about it. He's rich, has a ton of patients, so why should he care? If you can, find another optometrist. read more

They have frequently required cash payments ON TOP of the medicare for "special" purposes. cannot get the eyelid operation unless you pay over $300.00 for special tests or the $150.00 cash for the cataract surgery - do not pay and do not get operation. I haven't even seen the doctor yet and I have encountered an irresponsible front desk. I want to know that the service here is not at all what it says online. I would not recommend this office. I would not recommend this office. The staff was nice enough, but the office is run in an absolutely overbooked manner. There were over 20 people there at once. My appointment was at 230, and I got there at 215 as a new patient to fill out paperwork. I proceeded to wait and wait and wait some more.... I ended up finishing my appointment at almost 5pm! I have been here now four times and seen 3 different doctors for the same issue. This place is ran horribly. I've waited over an hour the last two visits with no outcome to my issue. Do not come to this place. Something is going on the way they turn and burn these patients. You wait in two separate waiting rooms (2nd one doesn't even have the lights on). They must be frauding someone to have to schedule like this. They collect your deductible BEFORE you get seen by a doctor which is a HIGE red flag to me. Who pays before the service? They have a bunch of intern type folks who act as robots to just move people like herds of sheep. I'll never be back if I can help it. read more

I got a really bad pain in my eye, went to the er and they misdiagnosed me, my boss referred me to Dr. Garcia and he finally has me on the road to recovery!!! His office is very organized and efficient! His office worked me in and I waited less than 15 minutes! The office is very welcoming and it is a very clean environment! Dr. Garcia and his staff have always been very professional and efficient. I've had two cataract surgeries and both went very smoothly. The surgery center they use is also excellent. Paula the office manager is very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The only reason I didn't give a five -star is because the cost of the crystallens is quite a bit more than other offices I called. I still went ahead with those lenses and am very happy I did. I didn't want to switch doctors just for the price. read more

I have only been to the orange location and generally see Dr. Kwok , but was scheduled with Dr. Tran for my yearly check-up the end of last year. As previous reviews, an appointment time is really not set in stone, as they are always overbooked. After finally being called back at least 10-15 minutes later (sometimes longer) than your appointment time, you then wait in a second waiting room, sometimes upwards of an hour, which unfortunately has happened to me. While all the doctors themselves are fabulous, my main issue lies with the front desk staff. The women are not on the same page as the doctors. They constantly answer the phone '... can you please hold?" and without being able to even answer 'yes', I am already on hold. One of the ladies told me my order is typically one that is ready for pickup in 1 week, but could take up to two weeks, which could be why I haven't received a call yet for pickup. However, two separate doctors had told me that the order only takes about 5 business days to arrive. Then, just the other day, I received a message from one of the gals after I had called to inquire about my contacts, that they have been ready for a few days and that the office had already left a message to let me know. When I looked back on my answering machine, there was a voicemail left by an individual hanging up that I saw was, in fact, the office- so I'm unsure how I'm considered 'informed' if no message was left. If you have a lot of patience and the egregious amount of time available that it takes to get in and out of your appointment, the doctors are amazing. But other than them, I would not recommend the office. read more

I have been to this office several times.. with each visit it is getting worse. My problem is not with the Doctors as much as it is with the office staff.. issues making appointments, they schedule us then cancel at the last minute due to them not getting the proper eligibility dates. They schedule an appointment for my annual exam, calling me the morning of to verify that I am coming in, then when I get there 30 minutes later they tell me I'm not eligible for my exam! I raised a stink and pointed out their error where they refused to admit fault.. I like the Doctors, the staff however needs to be trained on customer service and a more professional aproach to obtaining insurance information, be more thorough.. Get it right the first time.
