Riesling wine
Cassie B.

Came to my 2nd McMenamins of my trip to Portland with family and it was so cool! We ended up grabbing drinks in their downstairs bar and bringing them upstairs to their small lounge with a fireplace. Being by the fireplace was incredibly cozy, Riesling is my favorite type of wine so sitting by the fireplace and talking with my family was very enjoyable. We ended up ordering a few appetizers including truffle fries and the fried Brussel sprouts. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture. Then I also ended up ordering the brownie sundae for dessert. Down the hallway was their theater which is so cool, they were playing the new tron movie. After we enjoy some time by the fire we went upstairs and discovered a cool hidden hallway and explored it until it took us back down a level. Overall this place was so cool and can't wait to discover other McMenamins!

This is the coolest McMenamins I've been to yet. $10 to soak in their heated salt spa. We grabbed lunch for their birthday special and spent an afternoon having a girls date. The crispy chicken sandwich special was delish!

Captain Neon with Hammerhead Garden Pattie and no bacon

My wife always tells me that, "we go to Mcmenamins for the experience". Well, sometimes it's a good experience and sometimes not. The food is always fine. The service is always nice, but LITERALLY the slowest I've ever had. Every time. Took 20 minutes for us to get our beer and Arnold Palmer. I ordered the Captain Neon with the Hammerhead patty and no bacon, they of course left the bacon on there. Why would someone order a veggie patty but still want bacon? It's really frustrating almost every time. I really wish they were consistently better rather than worse. Go here if you a couple hours, don't mind waiting and don't mind your food coming out wrong.

Awesome chill atmosphere after running around getting our passport stamps. Loved the library atmosphere, old chairs and delicious food and drink. McMenamin's has upped their game recently with improving their food menu. It's not just burgers and tots anymore. I got the Imperial dragon crispy chicken salad and husband got the prime rib! The staff at the bar was great and super attentive.

Fabulous service! A wonderful change from previous visits. Received my hamburger quickly and it was cooked perfectly. ($17.50). A blackberry cider was sweet and refreshing. The restaurant was also full; great visit!

Went to a concert brought the low profile chairs then they said no bags or chairs with legs. Get inside and their chairs they rent are huge with legs and blocks everyone's view. Stupid as hell restricting everyone and then renting something totally different hypocritical a@@ holes. Do better

My favorite McMenamins I've visited! Always good customer service! My wife and I love coming for our date nights here esp when there's live music. I have yet to stay in a room so I'll update my review then.

Soaking pools were very calming. Maple bacon Brussels sprouts were filling and Oh! So delicious!

Awesome place to come and relax. A number of bars and restaurants with a variety of food. I have always been a fan of the McMenamins hotels and bars and this place is one of my favorites. Plenty to explore and keep you busy while relaxing or chasing your passport stamps. PS. There are a few hidden places here too! Enjoy!

We stayed here last weekend and really enjoyed our overall experience and stay! Food was good, drinks amazing, and the service is always outstanding! The rooms are so cute!

What a absolutely beautiful place. Amazing ambiance has so many small nooks and crannies where they have places like a fireplace or a bar. Would love to stay here one day Staff was incredible, so friendly, and professional

My wife enjoying the artistic vibe on the third floor.

Tired of the stale chain hotels? Looking for something different from the small local motel with no scenery? Sure both have their place when nothing else is around, but if traveling in OR or WA and possibly near a McMenamins hotel property that's the choice. Before leaving on a roadtrip from Los Angeles to OR we booked a night at the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove west of Portland and WOW was this place fun. Check in, drop the bags, set out exploring and never left the property. Room had a very comfy bed which was great because of my many joint pains; spacious private bathroom too. Key word, private because communal is available. Our room was on the second floor where the ghost (the Lavender Lady) roams. I'd say I didn't experience the ghost directly but was still touched indirectly. Not sure how many bars the property has but we visited 4, which I think wasn't half. We had too much fun exploring during the day and night that we visited the Soaking pool in the morning. A welcome visit too after I suffered severe quad strains 2 days prior and still couldn't walk downhill or down stairs without great pain. Hidden rooms were so fun to find. Staff was incredibly nice and very helpful. Food wise though, sadly the menu for the restaurants we visited is the same; general pub food is how I'd describe it so that's the only thing I wished would have had better. We're not foodies so not a deal breaker. This place rocked!

Amanda Richards and the Good Long Whiles at "The Garage Door", which is a music venue in the hotel
Stephen K.

My review is of "The Garage Door", a tiny music venue in the bottom level of McMenamin's Grand Lodge. For a music venue, this is about as good as one could imagine a music venue in a hotel could be. It is definitely as quirky as one would expect for McMenamins, with bathrobe-clad hotel patrons wandering through on their way to the spa. With that said, the venue is tiny, intimate, cozy, and had a great-sounding PA system. There are few tables, and food can be ordered from Bob's Basement Bar. Service is friendly and the food is average.

The only bad things about this is the prices are pretty high (and you don't have to solve a riddle to get a stamp).

The Ironworks Grill was so-so for food when we were there, but maybe that was just a bad breakfast morning.

However I was refused the $50/10,000 point credit for a 3night stay, even though my stay was 3 nights. Fun side activity: I also had several deposits held on my card - one for each night - and had to check in & out every day. Our room had loud, pounding music all day & night - we thought it was a neighbor; turns out we were above the pool. I was told how sorry they were, and that was it. We had to try to work & take meetings with a constant, loud bass in the background, as well as try to sleep through it. After several texts and complaints, on the third and last night, somebody finally turned it off at 7PM. Not worth the comfy bed & free juice.

He asked how we were doing and so forth. Cons - there was a male individual at the counter speaking to him before we walked in.....without a shirt and only wearing dark colored boxer briefs. Not something that should have been acceptable. Other Pros - Breakfast was good and well stocked. In addition to a make your own waffle station, there were bagels and yogurt, as well as a warm food bar with scrambled eggs, bacon, French toast and biscuits with gravy. Juice options and coffee/tea rounded the corner. Beds were a plus. Firm mattress and supportive pillows. The main issue was the guy wearing nothing but his briefs at the front desk when we came in.

We requested additional bath towels because they were the size of hand towels and were told they could exchange our other two for two clean ones but that they could not give us two additional. The clean towels never arrived. It is also supposed to be non smoking rooms but there was a strong cigarette smoke smell wafting into our room making it very uncomfortable to sleep. The room was poorly lit with only one lamp instead of one on each side of the bed. The bedding while clean had holes in it. The toilet seat was also broken and kept sliding around with each use. It was a waste of money staying here. I will never stay here again.

Day 1- Trash was not removed from exterior of guest house. Upstairs patio and chairs at guest house stained with bird dropping and smashed cherries, as were the downstairs outside couches. Called ITrip operations who sent the groundskeeper to resolve issue. He never did wash down the patio. Same night, we wanted to enjoy our dinner to experience the beautiful weather. We were unable to remove the layers of dirt on the patio dining table at Manor and had to eat dinner inside. Day 2- We noticed outside chairs at Manor were dirty and did not sit on it, as were the chairs around fire pit. Called ITrip operations again to tell first tell them Day 1 patio cleaning was not properly done, and that my HUSBAND washed and scrubbed it himself. Then proceeded to tell them about newly noticed issues. Operations sent someone in a timely manner. He was the plumber, Victor who scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed...did an AMAZING job!!! Also told him our a/c was warm and not working properly. He tried to resolve, and advised if not cooled by Day 3 to call management._ Day 3- After sleeping 2 nights in warm stuffy condition, had to call management again to notify....they could not promise someone could come out. After waiting a few hours it was evident a/c was not working and sent text message that conditions warranted an emergency service call. An a/c expert arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed major issue with a/c system in guest house. He managed to get it cool enough for us to enjoy sleeping. Day 4- Finally all issues resolved the day before we were to check out. _ Check out day- Post wedding celebration, we requested a late check out but no response. We quickly packed up so as to not get charged. House cleaners arrived as the last of us were about ready to leave. We told her everything except a/c issue in guest house. She confirmed it ALL should have been completed prior to our arrival, and that we could have had a late check out since no one was scheduled to arrive in a couple of days. Moreover and probably the most concerning was an undisclosed RV above the property was being occupied by groundskeepers who had codes to access the homes. Terrifying if all females stayed at the property. Exterior night lighting around grounds insufficient, making it dangerous. The amount of money we paid to stay was overpriced for the non-privacy and condition it was delivered in. Above all else, interior of both homes were very clean, the beds were comfortable, bathroom amenities excellent, expansive outside space and private lake was enjoyable. Response time and maintenance resolution by ITrips operations was impressive, however, I'm still waiting for the property manager to call me, it's been 7 days Might recommend to others with but with caveats.
