Our experience at Fairfield was much better. The room is standard. Comfortable bed, good shower. The noise from I 5 is a problem if you're a light sleeper like myself. The most impressive thing about Fairfield is their breakfast. There are a host of choices. Plenty of fresh toppings to go along with eggs, cereal (good oatmeal) and different kinds of drinks hot or cold. Looks like we found our place to stay when we are in the area.

We thought it was a domestic dispute, it sounded like furniture hitting the walls. This went on for hours. The front desk calls went unanswered, so no rest. Turns out it was just some guy lifting & apparently dropping weights. As angry as I was at the guy for waking me & my family, I was more annoyed at the hotel for letting this happen. We drove several hours that night to arrive at the hotel, knowing we had to leave just after 6am for our kiddos surgery at Doernbecher. Thanks to their rubbish 24 hour exercise policy I didn't sleep the whole night & will drive back home more tired than I should be.

They do have a makeshift bar area but it's composed of what feels like party rental bar and tables and has a curtain separating this from the construction zone. But there were various smears and spots on surfaces, including door handles and other high touch surfaces. When I see this, it makes me question the cleanliness of the entire room.

If you don't like much sun on hot days (I do like sun), this is the place to be, because like some other Crown Plazas, the hotel is shaped like a U, so it blocks most of the sun. The price here is usually better than it is for some other hotels.  They use to offer a breakfast buffet years ago, but now they don't unfortunately. Also, the pool was warmer in the past, but it's been cool for a while now. That's the reason for the one star deduction, and the only reason we may not be back. One of my favorite things was that upon arriving at our room, there was a personalized welcome note and a complimentary toy for our baby. He loved it! Such a simple thing that brought us a lot of joy. And when you check in, there are delicious cookies! On top of all of that, the breakfast was amazing. SO many options to choose from. No matter what you like for breakfast, you'll be able to find something. And they keep it stocked very well. I wish every hotel was like this. So is the basic structure -- when you first walk in the lobby lives up to the name "Grand", although there could have been a bit more furnishing. For that matter, the large rooms are also quite large and tastefully furnished. So what's the problem? A lot of small things: no in-room safes, no night-lights, no morning newspapers (even from a vending machine), inadequate towel racks in the bathroom, inadequate drinking glasses, no food or snack service of any kind after breakfast (the hotel doesn't need a full service restaurant, but why not have a small bar somewhere in that vast lobby area? even a stand-up bar would be okay. And the hotel has a very odd policy of providing NO housekeeping services on alternate days of a multi-day stay. I can understand the signage that states linen and towels will be changed only on request, but not even a room freshening and make-up-the-bed on the second -and fourth (?)- day?? (As to that linen signage, the hotel - like many competitors - think it's wise to make it sound like all this is being done in the name of environmentalism. But if the hotel really cared about the environment, it would also have 'weak and strong flush' toilets -- and, in seasons where it's warm, would make the bed without so much extra cover, so that guests would not need to keep the room temperature so low.)

Hotel itself is clean and comfortable, with the main courtyard on the first floor open to the rooms rising up several stories. Happy hour and some breakfast busy times can be a little noisy as we were on the second floor, but it wasn't anything that was unbearable. In addition, there's a mall nearby and a Target store across the street if you need to pick up other snacks or maybe something you forgot to pack. All in all, a comfortable stay and we would stay here again when in the area.

The restaurant is what used to be the lobby. It is known for being dimly lit, a little romantic, a little old school. They are open late when not a lot of other places around are, which is how I ended up here after another event. They have happy hour from 4-6pm and then a late night happy hour after 10pm. The building could use some love from its landlord. The toilet was leaking, there's asbestos wrapped pipes visible on the ceiling. We got: Soup du jour House salad Meze platter Kettle chips Spicy chicken sandwich Everything tasted great. I was pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes for the happy hour items. I would definitely keep this in mind for date night or as a late night spot when not much else is open.
