This is such a fantasticly gorgeous location to visit and stay the night. Short walk to the beach or their Sandtrap bar. They do have bikes to check out. It reminds me of an 80's movie. Situated on a golf course. I am not a golfer but I enjoyed the property emensely. If it is really busy, parking can be a challenge.

Sally at the front desk was very welcoming and had a great attitude. When checking in at Mcmenamins Gearhart, say hello to Sally at the front desk. Sally helped us with our passport prizes

We stayed here one night and had a blast. Although it was rainy all weekend, hanging inside the hotel was truly a treasure. It was Cody and the staff was very friendly. We are big Mcmenamins fans so loaded up on their black rabbit wine and Cajun tots. We ended up getting engaged on the beach during this trip, and will always remember the amazing time we had.

Love the secret rooms! Can you find the Gearheart one?

I simply love the location of McMenamins Gearheart Hotel. They have an enormous golf course, the fun little bar the Sand Trap on the course. The hotel is very close to the ocean beaches which you can easily stroll there on foot or use one of the bikes they provide if you are a hotel guest. On top of that the night we spent here was very, very peaceful. However there were a few things that didn't make the experience free of hiccups. Now, I'm used to the McMenamins restaurants to not be the fastest service out there. It isn't fast food and I've ĺearned to cool my jets on that regard. But in the case here it also seemed disorganized. We needed to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. We didn't wait long but apparently other parties with the same number as ours didn't get seated first and they were not happy which made the whole thing a bit awkward. The hostess seated us but then gave me the wrong menu so we weren't sure between Steve's menu or mine which was being served at the time. I think mine was for earlier in the day. Anyway it got sorted out. The bar downstairs from the front lobby felt like it took a while for the bartender to come out from the back as well. And then finally when we were turning our keys in at the front desk in the morning and there was nobody there to hand them over to. Feeling confused but wanted direction we called an emergency number posted at the desk and we woke up some poor lady to get direction as to where to drop off the key. Sorry to have woken you regarding a matter like that. Despite all that I would return to this hotel and go when it's not so rainy. I'd love to golf on the course and ride bikes. Not a big fan of going in the summer either as I'm sure it's a zoo but thinking very early Autumn would be nice.

Comfy for a lazy weekend.

We always love our stay here in Gearhart. The rooms are very nice and they allow us to bring our little dog with us. We've been here multiple times to complete our passports but this time we came just to relax for a weekend. We walked around the grounds, ordered room service for dinner and breakfast, and relaxed in our room. It was a nice, rainy, winter, getaway for us. We loved that we had a TV in the room to watch a few movies. We even watched a TV show about haunted places and one episode featured the McMenamins White Eagle hotel! The staff was super friendly from check in to check out. Later in the evening I asked for an extra pillow and found the nicest woman to show me where to find them. They were having some trouble with their key programming when we arrived to check in but they accommodated us by going to our room with us to manually unlock the door and let us take our things in. By the time we returned from a quick trip into town they had the keys figured out and brought them to our room for us. Almost all of our stays at McMenamins hotels are great but this hotel is always one of our favorites.

Gross white stain on the pull out couch.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights just this past weekend. The grounds and area is absolutely beautiful. The service in the sand trap pub was lacking and everything seemed to take so long and there were barely any people around. The pot bunker was cool, there is a secret room, the sand bar was closed because the bartender didn't show up to work but they still gave us a stamp which was awesome! Our room was huge! However, there was a white gross stain on our couch so we didn't sit on it. They did a turn down service when asked but didn't give us more toilet paper and didn't vacuum. That was sad.

beautiful location, walking distance to the beach, and wonderfully kept golf course. food: it was expensive and tasty. the cider flight was delicious. they have and offer many packaged named housemade foods, snacks (ice cream), drinks (alcohol) and etc. (sauces) for you to enjoy there or take home the rooms: dimly light, clean comfy, each room had a nice sitting area with table, tv and spacious bathroom we had fun looking for the secret room, enjoyed beers in the many pubs and taverns on the premises. staff: all so friendly and helpful. I lost my ring and I called to see if they may find it and they sent it back home to me. Great honest people

Love the bunk bed room!

My girlfriend and I spent the night here before a brewfest in Astoria, and it was absolutely amazing! We both had SUCH a wonderful time, this McMenamins is so much fun and we both said its one of our favorite locations! Our room was in the new annex building, and it was absolutely perfect...a lofted bunk bed room that had a huge bathroom and a TV! It was seriously bomb....we loved it!! I wouldn't hesitate to come here again and would DEFINITELY recommend it to others...stay here!! Most of the property here is geared towards golf enthusiasts, however both of us don't play golf and we had a wonderful time. The grounds are beautiful, and of course inside the buildings is an adventure in itself and congruent with the rest of the McMenamins empire...compelling and interesting and creepy and historical and beautiful all rolled up into one! Make sure and poke around as surprises are around every corner here...and new discoveries are sure to keep guests entertained! Like I said above, our room was a bunk bed room in the new building, and it was superb. The ceiling was very high so even on the top bunk you didn't feel enclosed, we had a large window overlooking the golf course below, and a very large bathroom complete with a shower, sink, toilet, and shelving for toiletries. There was also a little table and chairs in the room, and a TV which is a novelty as most McMenamins rooms do not have them! I think our room name was "The Nibblick", which is maybe a golf term? I dunno, there was a picture of a bunch of ladies playing golf in our room so go figure. Anyway, we were VERY happy with our stay here and had a wonderful, restful night. One more feather to their cap, all the people we encountered here at Gearhart were extremely helpful and friendly! All the staff, including the front desk people were SO very sweet and personable, they were an absolute joy to interact with. A solid 5 star rating, the Gearhart hotel has earned it! Go see for yourself!

We stayed in the annex. It's beautiful and well decorated. They have the alarm clock that allows you plug in two items on the table top, very convenient. I'm sorry to say that the bed is awful. Like a camp mattress. I don't even recall a worse bed in a hotel. They would do well to invest in some better quality mattresses. The power went out at 2 in the morning ( I realize that likely isn't the hotel's fault), so our sleep apnea machine shut off and never came back on. No breakfast in the morning because the power is still out. We went to turn our keys in at the desk and were met with a male employee who conveyed disinterest and irritation. We asked for the name of someone we could ask for when we call later and he just kept saying "call the property". We finally pressed him long enough that he relented and provided the managers name. I'll update the review based on any resolution they provide. UPDATE: We spoke to a manager who thanked us for our feedback and refunded our charges. Solid business practices. Because of this, we will likely give them another shot if the mattresses get upgraded.

Morning goodness at the top of the stairs!

Attentive to guests, quiet hotel, if that's what you're looking for. Beach access is only a few blocks away.

I was extra excited about the beverages from Pilot House Distilling and the Smith tea selection. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a friendly smile and some hot buttered rum. Every morning, breakfast was left at our door. I had the best time cozying up by the fire and I slept like a baby. I checked the tags on the duvet cover in hopes I could buy the same brand for my bed at home - it was THAT comfortable. We visited on a rainy weekend so we didn't utilize the garage, but I did take a peek at the bikes, sand toys, fire kits and wagons. This place has everything you could possibly need for a beach getaway. Drifthaven is just a 5 minute walk from the beach and there's a lovely wine bar, Daughters, right down the road. Originally, I had booked one night but when it came time to pack up the next morning, my boyfriend and I had been pouting to each other about how it was already time to leave. We took matters into our own hands and found Abby in the courtyard delivering breakfast baskets. She kindly took us to guest services. The availability was limited, but she was able to snag an extra night for us and even allowed us to keep our same room so we didn't have to deal with the hassle of packing up and moving next door. She was very sweet and we were so appreciative! I really can't recommended this place enough. We're already planning our next trip.

We needed our room sooner and it should've been ready by 4pm however they had it ready by 2pm- which was a big help since I had online class. We utilized the free bikes which was great. They're free & you just fill out the form and you're on your way. Our room was nice. A few small things: the bottom boards by the deck door had would looked like probably wet mud or dirt there from whenever, there was some food like splatter on the table that has the phone but overall it was nice! I would definitely stay again as it was a clean hotel and it wasn't a ton of traffic. Bonus was parking. The hotel is central to everything so it's walking distance to the stores and the beach. I didn't have breakfast but my partner did and he enjoyed it. The lobby is pretty spacious, has a couch section, then a chair section and then a couple stand tables. Lots of room! There are games, and they have snacks available as well for purchase!

Yes, but I wanted to fully immerse myself in seaside for half a week by the beach. As always, be sure to check ratings not only on Yelp but also on other sites, weighing the pros and cons. LOCATION: You're just a two-minute walk from the beach, which is the biggest perk! Everything from dining to shopping is within walking distance. The hotel has its own parking lot, but make sure to display your hotel window tag to avoid getting towed. AMENITIES & SERVICE: Every day, there's complimentary coffee and tea available downstairs. The lobby features board games, a small bar, and lounging areas where you can relax or get some work done. Next to the lobby, there's a heated pool (it's a bit smaller than it appears in photos). You can also borrow bikes to explore the town--just ask at the front desk. Room service even sent me a text each morning to check if I needed housekeeping, which was nice. ROOM: We stayed in Room 22, located near the Ashore sign. It had a spacious layout with a king-size bed, perfect for two. The room featured a fireplace with wood, a couple of lounge chairs, a coffee table, a mini fridge (just big enough for small snacks), a TV, and standard hotel bathroom amenities. I appreciated the space, although the walls were a bit thin, so we could hear some noise from our neighbor and the downstairs when people slam the door... Overall, our room was clean and very comfortable.
