This was not our view from our room, although, our room was a short walking distance to this spot.

My family decided last minute that we would celebrate Thanksgiving on the Oregon Coast and was able to book a room at Surfsand Resort easily, which was surprising since it was a holiday weekend. We were able to get partial view of the ocean as well! It's probably just me but I always stress out when I book hotels that have carpeted rooms because people don't remove their dirty footwear. It's always so pleasant to spend my money on non-carpeted floors because I can clean the floor myself. With two toddlers in tow who love to touch, sit, and lay down in places they've never slept at before, this resort definitely helped relieve that stress! I really have nothing negative to say about this place. Upon checking in, we received two cans of beer, free of charge - not sure if that was because it was Thanksgivings weekend, or if it is some they they normally do - but that was a nice surprise to have. The rooms included dishes and utensils which was a bonus as well as a dustpan and broom for sweeping all the sand that comes in. The bed was comfortable and fit all four of us comfortably (we had a king-size bed). The bathtub was a bit odd just because there was a sliding window which when opened connected to the bedroom. Our kids had a hoot being in the bathtub while getting to watch tv at the same time - although there was also a tv in the bathroom. Location was absolutely perfect! A five minute walk to the beach! In addition, there were many restaurants to choose from in the area. We found it so convenient during dinner hours because when our toddlers were on the verge of meltdowns, we would get the check and walk to our rooms easily.

Okay so obviously this place is gorgeous. It's expensive. It's the coast right? And my guy was insistent on me getting the full experience, which included a beachfront patio. Not gonna lie, it was gorgeous. He definitely spoiled me taking me here. I didn't want to leave. Between the comfy AF bed, gorgeous views and lack of care for ANYTHING, I was DESPERATE for a vacation and two days wasn't enough but it was enough to get my head straight. I never noticed UNTIL my stay here, how POOR hotels do at storage. One dresser usually and a closet. This was like the Home Edit came in and said STORAGE here!! And HERE!! And THERE!!! With magic wands! Storage is EVERYWHERE. Next to the front door, your closet with PLENTY of hangars. And the lovely robes. Which we honestly spent most of Saturday in lol Then you've got a coat rack, bench for sitting to put on your shoes and three HUGE drawers beneath the bench for storage. (shoes went in there...and I went barefoot for the first time EVER at a hotel...and had clean feet AND clean white socks!) Then at the "bar" we have a small cabinet that held our snacks and the mini fridge/wine cooler for our cold items. Above is the microwave, silverware and cups/glasses etc. THEN next to the TV: a HUGE cabinet with shelves AND drawers!! Storage everywhere!! I realize not many people will get excited about storage but y'all they already have a 5 star review average. I had to give you something NEW!!! The property is GORGEOUS. Rooms are so beautiful and CLEAN!!! And the staff is amazing. Literally zero complaints except that I wish I could afford to LIVE here. lol

This place is an absolute dream! Greeted by the most friendly staff and some cookies! Our room was upgraded to a lovely beach front view and this room is incredible. My husband and I utilized the pool and it was one of the cleanest swimming pools/hot tub I have personally ever seen. Rooms are spotless and spacious. Will definitely be coming back here, highly recommend!

I don't know, this might just be the nicest motel I've ever stayed at! Our room was clean and new looking. We got one of the non-view rooms, to save $$. Our bill was $358 for one night, 2 adults. Wait til you see my photos, we got the most amazing non-view of the Haystack, right in our face! The beach is about 2 minutes from our room. Our room had a refrigerator, fireplace, nice TV options and big TV. Check my photos of the room... It's small, but looks very nice. The deck out our front door puts you right there watching the waves. Room Service is available... Cookies in the lobby at 3:30pm, a major event. Many nice touches, this place is a... Hit.

First, DO NOT BOOK YOUR STAY ON BOOKING.COM OR ANY OTHER THIRD PARTY. Book through the hotel. The manager was very understanding since we had booked through a third party and we had no idea we didn't have a room with a view at all. We ended up with a fantastic room with a view of Haystack Rock. The room was beautiful! Very clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom was amazing. I think the only "difficulty" was getting the heat to stabilize from being too hot to too cold. There wasn't instructions on using the thermostat and it wasn't your usual one. Otherwise every thing was great. There were more than enough K-cups for the coffee pot, fresh cookies at the front desk and free beverages upon arrival.

Quiet, seaside, pet friendly, staff accommodating, easy parking, loved the views of Haystack from our bedroom window. Would stay again. Great for pets and plenty of walk about areas. Have chargers for EVs too

Proximity to Haystack was great, comfy beds, indoor pool and hot tub were nice! Bathroom beautiful and roomy. Reservation said "fireplace", the website says "digital fireplace"- where I'm from this is really called a "fake fireplace". Hard floors. Unsure if I would stay here again. Staff friendly and helpful!

We stayed for our annual Mother's Day weekend celebration from Sun-Wed and decided to try Surfsand due to its vicinity between town and Haystack. Upon check in they tell us where we can park in coordination with which building our room is in, but they seem to be unaware of the lack of parking. We had to park by the Wayfarer Restaurant the majority of the time we were there, which was about a two minute walk. They had nowhere to pull up to unload our luggage and we had to use a luggage roller that looked like it had never been cleaned. Our room had a broken toilet dispenser,so the toilet paper fell off every time we used it which was frustrating experience throughout our stay. We had a total of 4 in our party so 2 took the room and 2 took the sleeper sofa. They unfortunately forgot to stock our room with an additional comforter for the sleeper sofa. The fridge was missing a freezer compartment and there was only one faulty sink in the bathroom. Why they found it necessary to have 3 tvs, but only one sink in a bathroom attached to the toilet is beyond me. Also, the size of the tv to bedroom/main room ratio was unnecessary. At check out they did apologize or the missed comforter and broken toilet paper holder, but they didn't leave me feeling the urge to rebook for next year. They did have complimentary chairs for beach use and you could purchase a package where they build the fire for you and provide the items to cook s'mores. The ladies I stayed with were savvy, so we made due with making our own fires. The pool and hot tub was a nice feature, but we didn't use it enough to warrant having it.

It makes me so sad to write this review. My family and I have stayed at this hotel multiple times a year for 7 or 8 years now and never had a complaint until the hotel recently was acquired by a larger chain. Pros: 1. Location. Right on the beach with fantastic views of Haystack rock. Within walking distance to several restaurants and coffee shops, a convenience store, and bike rentals. Within walking distance to downtown as well. 2. Dog friendly rooms available. 3. As advertised, they do have warm cookies at 3 if you're around to enjoy those, they offer complimentary bottles of local beer or root beer when you check in, and during the summer they have a free "community" bonfires in the evening with make-your-own s'mores. 4. My favorite new feature is the motion-sensored nightlight that comes on if you get up in the middle of the night to get a drink or use the restroom. It's the perfect amount of soft light. Con's: 1. Everything just feels different since they were bought out - and this has nothing to do with the renovation underway. 2. We visited twice in March and no longer received the little welcome treat with taffy and a hand-written note either time. 3. The guest rooms have been updated and look newer, but they aren't necessarily better. In fact, the 2 rooms we stayed in both felt significantly smaller. The king studio had the tiniest of tables, just large enough to hold a lamp - so the one evening we ordered room service, we had to eat our dinner on the bed. There's also a window by the door with no blinds that you can see out of from the toilet. The second time we stayed in a king suite. It had a table but the bedrooms no longer have a little window to enjoy fresh air, let any light in, or listen to the waves. Instead, the entire wall behind the bed is planks of wood. It just looks peculiar. There's also so much wasted space in the rooms; it just doesn't make sense. 4. Despite being in newly renovated rooms, both were really dusty, from the towel racks to the floor. 5. The glass showers are nice but the floors looked messy and partially incomplete despite them telling us it was finished. 6. They still advertise Aveda spa products in the rooms but they had this Lather brand the last 2 times we were there. On their own, none of these things are deal breakers, and maybe not even things you'd notice if you haven't stayed there before. However, it's definitely not the same Surfsand and it's disappointing. We agreed we will be looking for different accommodations on future trips. Not necessarily bad, just no longer special.

Located right on the beach and only half a mile walk from Haystack Rock! Really enjoyed our spring break here, despite torrential rain and wind we got for part of our visit. Easy access to the beach, and close enough to walk to all the shops and restaurants in Cannon Beach. Room was spacious with a fireplace and deck, and bathroom had a huge tub for a warm soak. Also appreciated the Aveda bath products, that was a step up from normal hotel shampoo. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. My only gripe is our room was right by the elevator so we could hear the pinging at night. And your neighbor's door is so close you will definitely hear every single time they go in and out.

This is the living space with a fold out couch. You can see the wet bar to the right.

New renovations-sneak peek I was able to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms. It was an ocean view, king with a separate living space. The views of haystack rock were gorgeous. They have ripped out any carpets and used tiles. The artwork is spectacular. There are three TVs. One is in the living space over a faux fireplace. There is one in the bathroom. There is another TV on the wall of the bedroom. The bathroom had two sinks, a soaking tub and a showerhead with a separate rain wand. The new tiles in the bathroom represent stone. There is a refrigerator, a bar sink, a Keurig, coffee maker, and a microwave. The pantry is stocked with plates, coffee, mugs, and wine glasses for four. The cabinets are now whisper closing. They have cleverly designed the base of the bed as storage. There are plenty of outlets. They have USB ports embedded into the nightstands. There was a table with two chairs and a couch that would sit three people. There were four Adirondack deck chairs. There was plenty of light. The heating system was updated. It is now on the ceiling as opposed to the side of the wall. I've always been impressed by the front desk staff. There was a bit of a kerfuffle with the people in front of me for check-in. They were unaware that the property is under construction. The website is extremely transparent about the construction and it's impact on its guests. Check-in has moved from its beautiful lobby to a small hotel room. It was a minor inconvenience, balanced by the 20% off they have on their website. Make sure to take advantage of the 3 o'clock warm cookies, the Friday, beer, tastings, and the ice cream social. I highly recommend this resort. If it is too cold to swim in the ocean, they have a heated pool and a very large hot tub.

This is how I prevent hot air from the fan, from getting in my face!

Check in experience with Elizabeth was super smooth Scott was there his back up. I was also offered cookies that were not just for checking in but anytime during this day. I decided I probably want to try each of them just, you know, for research purposes. Happy to find a bag of saltwater taffy in the room and a comfortable table to work or dine at in a sunny nook of the room. The bathroom area is spacious, though the tub was out of commission which also was reflected in the room rate. There was a shower which makes things speedier and some nice bath amenities especially the bath salts. Fireplace in the room with a TV screen that doesn't dominate. Maybe because it was a sunny day or maybe just because everything about the area seemed quite well cared for including the rocking bench and the bird feeders where is the nearest feather friends actually feed. This meal came after a surprise engagement for my girlfriend so I had high hopes and they delivered. We were greeted with a lovely glass of champagne and also received some specialty bon bons to end the meal. Starting with the venue itself, the restaurant is situated on the second floor of the restaurant in a quaint dining room. I was honestly a little surprised as I had assumed the restaurant was bigger but none the less it was a nice space. There's a kitchen near the entrance which is cool to see. The service itself was fantastic. They were welcoming and kind and fast to address any question or request. I also noticed they did a great job pacing as there would be times where other tables finished courses before we did but they still waited on our conversation to then clear and serve us the following dish. Now to the food. It was so delicious. I'll be honest that when I saw the menu in comparison to the prior night I got a little worried as the first two dishes I saw, crab and a mushroom soup were not something I would typically order at a restaurant. That being said...they were both incredible. The flavors and care that went into each dish was incredible. Great restaurants make items you may not typically like taste fantastic and this is a testament to the chef. We were loving all parts of the meal and it was an amazing dinner and evening to share. The bread and butter by itself were so amazing. It was such a lovely evening and thank you for making it so special for us. Would definitely come back if you're celebrating a big milestone!

We booked our stay just a few days before our arrival and I was lucky enough to secure an oceanfront fire pit room (there are only 4 on the property). As I reviewed the many advertised amenities on the website, I started to anticipate a great stay. On our check-in day my husband and I arrived around 2pm and were immediately greeted by friendly and helpful staff. We decided to wait in the library/lobby area for our room to be ready. The library has incredible views of the ocean and Haystack Rock, comfortable seating and is located just off the lobby where there are refreshments (water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies, muffins and scones), as well as books, puzzles and games. When our room was ready we were given welcome drinks (sparkling wine with blueberry purée), helped with our bags and given a tour of the room and the grounds. It was during this tour that we realized that the property and room came with many more amenities than we anticipated! Such as: complimentary car wash, chocolate tasting, shuttle to/from downtown, in room snacks & beverages and a S'more's kit for our fire pit. The room and property provided everything we could want for a relaxing stay. During our two-night stay we enjoyed the cocktail hour which included drinks & appetizers, a good nightcap which included cocktails, nuts & chocolate covered cherries, breakfast in the dining room (buffet style with made to order items), a Ranger chocolate tasting with the chef, dinner in the dining room, listening to the ocean by our fire pit, watching the waves and the bunnies from our patio and yes, we also took advantage of the complimentary car wash (hand washed at that)! The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, the grounds and room were well maintained and comfortable, the food & drinks were delicious and the amenities were thoughtfully curated and delivered. We wanted for nothing except to stay longer!

Upon arrival to check-in, I observed one person at the reception desk being helped by the sole staff member, plus several folks hanging out in the lobby. After checking that no one else was waiting, I sat down to wait. They all left and I was the only person waiting. Of course, a white woman strolled right up to the desk from outside just as the other guest left, and instead of telling her I was there first, or even acknowledging me at all, the white staff person just helped her. 2. They say that pets names are on a welcome board when you arrive. My dog's name was not there and the board was tucked away against a wall. 3. I'm traveling alone with a dog, so I unload everything before bringing my dog into the room. After lugging everything to the door, my key cards did not work. When I went back to reception, there was no apology, or anything about accountability. Simply "oh let me fix that." 4. The room says that the TV is equipped with AppleTV, and even has a special button for it. Does not actually work. 5. They say they provided cookies in the lobby between 4-6pm. I checked in just after 4pm and there were none. 6. I took my dog out to sightsee and when we same back, again with my hands full, the key cards did not work again. So, I have to leave my belongings at the door, and run to the lobby with my dog in tow, to get the fixed AGAIN. funny how that happened again. 7. When we did open the door to the room the first few times, the smell of "old lady perfume" was so strong. I asked the front desk if that was intentional and she said it must be a cleaning product. It is way too strong and I can still smell it on day 2, even after airing the room out as much as possible. 8. The shower head is covered with lime, and the spray options do not all fully function due to how clogged the shower head is. 9. The bedding is way too light for the climate. So then you run the heater, and get too hot in the night. 10. The outdated fridge runs loudly at random times in the night. I'm on a long road trip with my dog as we move to Canada, and we've been on the road for 2 weeks and been to 5 states. I decided to splash out on this hotel because I'm a huge Goonies fan, and my dog loves the beach. Overall, I'm disappointed and I'd say this hotel is not worth it at all. I will not stay here again. For this amount of $$$, plus dog fees for me, this value is abysmal.

I wanted to add some details: You get 1 parking spot per room for the duration of your stay which is amazing and quite literally feet away from the famous haystack entrance. Bigger cars might prefer more ideal spots along the sides of the parking lot to reduce congestion of the entrance but those are limited. So plan the times you leave accordingly. Their booking system is different from anywhere else we've stayed. For the dates you stay, at check out, you get dibs on the same dates the following year. Which is why many guests have maintained the same reservation for many years. (That is also why it is always booked out) We see some of the same people every year which is also cool! It will require a $100 deposit which will be deducted from your total if choose not to book the following year. Otherwise that same deposit rolls over year after year. I found the full size refrigerator amazing for new moms who breastfeed and need to freeze their milk. I was able to continue my breastfeeding journey on vacation which I'm grateful for. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need; silverware, dishes, new sponge, dish soap, salt & pep, roasting pan, frying pan, pots, cast iron skillet, microwave, oven, coffee etc. So for families with small children, this also means snacks & mealtimes can be cooked inside your room. (We stop at Costco in Warrenton on the drive over!) If you want the biggest room, choose room #5. It is up a flight of stairs so keep that in mind. It's so spacious. There's a back room with 2 queen size beds, tv & vanity. That's where our kids sleep and plenty of room to play. Bonus, there a door separating the main part of the room where there is another queen bed, kitchen, fireplace and of course, the killer view. They are very strict (as they should be) about fire department requirements regarding how many people can be in each room. There are zero exceptions to maximum capacity. So book accordingly, not based on how many beds there are. Children are included in that count. There is no traditional turn down service but clean towels are provided every morning if you wish. Guests are asked (or have been in the past via the handbook) to remove their own trash which is right under the stairs requiring little to no effort. Also to remove shoes at the door to prevent sand buildup on the carpets as it's difficult to remove. Out of respect for Rosa (who we love) and her staff, we make sure the room is clean of any dishes, garbage before we check out as well as stripping the sheets and leaving on the bed for easier turn down for the next guest. Dogs are allowed on the property granted you pickup after them & remain respectful. No leaving dog unattended. The lower rooms have direct access to the backyard for easy potty breaks. The weather here is kinda funny in the earlier months of the year because it will forecast rain the whole week and be sunny/beautiful for at least half the day. That said, it is windy sometimes with king tides so walks on the beach are dependent on that. Hope this helps! Check that website for opening dates and may the odds be in your favor!!
