Drifthaven has my heart. The room was clean and comfortable. No detail was missed, from the cozy fireplace, to the spacious king sized bed, luxurious bedding, stylish robes, and stocked kitchen. I was extra excited about the beverages from Pilot House Distilling and the Smith tea selection. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a friendly smile and some hot buttered rum. Every morning, breakfast was left at our door. I had the best time cozying up by the fire and I slept like a baby. I checked the tags on the duvet cover in hopes I could buy the same brand for my bed at home - it was THAT comfortable. We visited on a rainy weekend so we didn't utilize the garage, but I did take a peek at the bikes, sand toys, fire kits and wagons. This place has everything you could possibly need for a beach getaway. Drifthaven is just a 5 minute walk from the beach and there's a lovely wine bar, Daughters, right down the road. Originally, I had booked one night but when it came time to pack up the next morning, my boyfriend and I had been pouting to each other about how it was already time to leave. We took matters into our own hands and found Abby in the courtyard delivering breakfast baskets. She kindly took us to guest services. The availability was limited, but she was able to snag an extra night for us and even allowed us to keep our same room so we didn't have to deal with the hassle of packing up and moving next door. She was very sweet and we were so appreciative! I really can't recommended this place enough. We're already planning our next trip. read more

The room itself is very clean and quaint. The bed is very comfortable. They have a fun outdoor area with a dome to protect you from the elements. My favorite place to stay on the coast. We had an incredible two day visit here and enjoyed the walks to the beach and the serenity of the town. It was super quiet and relaxing and the property is amazing. We traveled with our corgi, James and I know he enjoyed it all just as much as we did. Plenty of grass to run around and the in room amenities were so thoughtful. We also visited king tide bakery across the street and the market. Both were charming and delicious. The market offers incredible homemade microwave meals you can make in your hotel room. Absolutely recommend! Also -- staff at this hotel are amazing. They were so kind and helpful and very welcoming. My daughter and I stayed here for a relaxing couple of days. That location is excellent and so is this establishment. So many extras here it is wonderful. They have a beautiful garden area with lounging chairs, a fire pit, and plenty of open spaces to play games that they provide They offer wagons, bikes, and blankets to go to the beach if you'd like. The room was so cute. The bed was very comfortable. King size with plenty of beautiful bedding. We loved the paintings in the room and the decorations. The bathroom was a nice size and had a window. They offer shampoos and such if you forgot yours. Their refrigerator is stocked with drinks if you choose to enjoy them. Also some whiskey and wine available. We were impressed by the coffee in the morning. They provide some delicious grounds with a French press. Nice touch. Also when we opened our door in the morning. There was a basket of breakfast treats. They seem to be homemade, and they were delicious! Especially the cinnamon cake. The nice people that run this place are really good. They make sure that you have everything you need and you are comfortable. There is parking in front of your unit and also street parking. I highly recommend this place and I definitely am going to visit again. Our stay was amazing. My bff and I stayed here and had such a lovely experience. Very cute, well appointed rooms with plenty of snacks and drinks available. We stayed in one of the rooms that had a living room downstairs and bedroom upstairs. They brought us cocktails in the evening and made sure there was firewood at the fire pit in case we wanted to make a bonfire. I had to take a call in the morning right at check out and the management went out of their way to ensure I had a quiet place to do so. Can't wait to return. read more

We went for a quick getaway during spring break and had such a wonderful and relaxing time. It rained the whole time so we didn't get to enjoy the fire pit and common area outside but we loved our accommodations. It was clean and absolutely adorable and so trendy. Environmentally conscious and had every convenience. The beach is walking distance but we drove to the beach access you can drive vehicles on the beach. This was the greatest place I have ever stayed. The hospitality and kindness are next level, I haven't meet a kinder group of people. My boyfriend and I stayed here and they treated us as if we were life long friends. Our car even broke down and they helped us by looking at the car, offering advice and letting us stay there an extra night. They went out of their way to help us to extreme measure. Decided of last minute that I wanted to go out to the coast over MLK Jr weekend and luckily found a room available at Drifthaven. This was my first time staying here and it did not disappoint. This little motel/hotel is very cute inside and out and I wish it wasn't raining and I would have explored the garden down below. I arrived right around 6pm so they sent me a code to let myself in. They leave a welcome cocktail for you which was hot buttered rum.. so delicious and so kind to provide. The room is decorated so well.. gave me some ideas for my own home. The king bed was very comfy, there was a decent size TV, little stove fireplace, a wine fridge to keep your food/drinks cold and food, drinks and snacks for purchase, a microwave, French press coffee and every morning they deliver a breakfast box with juice, pastries and fruit. Overall the entire room was very clean too. They're less than a block away from Pacific Way Cafe that I highly recommend and from there you walk out a block to the dunes and you're at the beach. Love this location. Can't wait to return when the weather is nicer although I did have some breaks in the rain while I was there, thankfully. Checkout was a breeze - highly recommend. read more

Growing weary after self-isolating for 4 months because of Covid 19 and my best friend was spending a month looking for a house in Gearhart, which is only 100 miles from where I live, we decided to safely get together while also practicing good social distancing rules. This meant that we had separate cottages and wore masks and the hard part was that we couldn't hug hello or goodbye . . . but it was all manageable. My cottage was perfectly comfortable and I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. The desk clerk conveniently made it so that I was directly across from my friend's cottage. Clean, crisp, comfortable and so nicely decorated. I would highly recommend this little gem if you are going to spend a few days or even several weeks in Gearhart - which is what my friend did - rented the cottage for the month of June. Super cute little cottages! I feel like we lucked out finding this place as originally I'd been looking at hotels in Seaside, but then booked the 2 bedroom cottage here. Gearheart is 5 minutes from seaside, 15 from Cannon Beach so they're close, but it's very nice and quiet. Around the corner from the cottages is a little downtown with a couple restaurants and stores (antique, candy), then about two blocks away is the ocean with a fantastic beach. Unlike Seaside's beach there weren't a ton of people there and you could feel like you really were out in open space. Keep in mind that these cottages are old build, going on 100 years, but updated so there is the balance of the charm and patina of age. I mention it because we loved that, but if you're the type of person that prefers a ton of space and new build, this may not be the best place for you. That's ok though! read more

Not so "pet-friendly" or friendly at all for that matter.... When I made our reservation over the phone, I was pleasantly surprised by how helpful and nice Melissa was. I had a lot of questions before I booked, and she was very thorough with her answers. My very first question was whether or not they would allow us to bring our three small dogs, since the pet policy says they only allow two. I was fully prepared for her to say no, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Without hesitation, she said it would be fine since they are small. She quoted me prices for the different rooms including different lengths of stay. I decided on a two-night stay in a one-bedroom suite. She said she would only charge me for two pets, which was unexpected , but I thought that was very nice of her! (Little did I know the nightmare this would cause.) She seemed very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the property, and I was very happy with the customer service I received over the phone. And, yet, the way my husband and I were treated by the (assistant) manager Andrea, during our stay, was so drastically different that I would never come here again and I feel I need to let everyone know how horrible it was. I honestly don't think I have ever been treated so poorly as a customer. Halfway into our stay, we were stopped in the parking lot by Andrea to tell us that she had charged my card an additional $160. ($60 for the pets she claimed I wasnt charged for and $100 since she discovered, while "servicing" our room, that our dogs had slept on the bed.) She treated me as if I was a liar when I tried to explain that I had been told I was being charged for two pets, and that I had told Melissa we had three. She said she had no record of this and therefore did not believe me. I also explained that my dogs HAD slept on the bed on our own blankets, but that I had been under the impression that this was okay since it says on their website: "If your pet is used to being on the furniture and you cannot dissuade it otherwise, we will provide pet blankets to cover our furniture and beds." I never could get a clear answer from her why we were in violation of the policy since we covered the bed with our own blankets. She was unwillingly to answer my questions or listen to anything I had to say. She cut me off and said she was done talking to me since "I wasn't capable of having an adult conversation." I never would've made a reservation here, had I known how costly it would end up being and how rudely I would be treated. This was supposed to be a relaxing little getaway for my husband and I, but I couldn't even enjoy the rest of it after all of this happened. Oh, and even though she supposedly came into our room to service it, it hadn't been serviced at all. Nothing had been replaced or cleaned, and the beds were not made. There was no way to even tell that someone had been in our room. Weird, right? I never understood that part. I got the feeling she came into our room just to find something we were doing "wrong" so that she could charge us an extra fee. Upon checking out, Andrea informed us that she had spoke with Melissa and that Melissa had in fact backed up my story. So, she said she would refund the extra $60 in pet fees she had charged me, but I received no apology for the way she had treated me the day before. I just want others to be warned about this place. The customer service is horrendous. We have stayed at many pet-friendly hotels, and have never run into any problems until staying here. I really think it would be best for them to stop advertising as a "pet-friendly" inn. If you do plan on staying here with your pet, I suggest planning on paying at least an extra $100 on top of everything else you've already paid. We were so careful to clean up after ourselves and went above and beyond, making our beds, folding any towels we had used, and thoroughly cleaning the kitchen before checking out. This was not the relaxing vacation I had hoped for at all, and I left feeling more drained and exhausted than when I came. On a side note, I think it's worth mentioning that Distinctive Beach Lodgings really sold themselves short by treating us this way. I had planned on telling my family and friends about this place. Based on how nice I thought the websites were and my interaction with Melissa, I had anticipated that I would love it here, planned on staying at the three other Distinctive Beach Lodgings properties, and was going to suggest one to my mom as the location for a family reunion. In the end, Distinctive Beach Lodgings made an extra $100 by handling things the way they did, but they lost out on any future business from my family, friends, and me. read more

This place is NOT pet friendly. They are threatening to charge me for sand on the bed and "pet damage" like we are at the beach and the sand was probably from me not the dogs. They say they are pet friendly but purposely put white covers in the pet rooms so they can charge you for anything. I prefaced my visit by saying that my dogs are support animals. I am a disabled veteran with PTSD and my dogs sleep with me so I can relax and actually sleep. But guess what, they are "pet friendly" except you can't have your pets on any furniture which btw this is not listed anywhere on the website. Gearhart Ocean Inn is a great place for a little getaway on the coast. Gearhart, though super close in proximity to Seaside, feels like it it miles away with it's long, peaceful, quiet beach. The Inn is just a few blocks from the beach, in the center of the small town. They are super friendly, the rooms are really clean and calm-simple, somewhat luxurious beachy decor. They have bikes you can use, and a whole library of DVDs to check out for free. Just down the block is a great little bakery, the only restaurant in town, and an ice/cream candy shop. There are a couple of little boutiques/galleries as well. read more

Well, we headed back to the coast just for one night and wanted to try another of the Distinctive Lodgings locations. We loved the Inn at Arch Cape but decided to try the Gearhart Ocean Inn for something new. Making reservations and figuring things out was so easy as everyone is super friendly! We were originally looking to go right after Christmas but because of work had to rearrange and go out for New Year's Eve instead. One night is a quickie but lucky for us the drive is super easy from Portland and totally worth it. I had a terrible head cold so we really went to do nothing but be in a new environment so it would be doing nothing while doing something.. haha.. and that is exactly what it was! We arrived just after 3 for check-in & that went seamlessly. Cathy, in the office, was helpful and we picked out a bunch of DVD's (excellent selection) and then we headed down to the beach, about a 3 block walk. We took our dog on this trip and everyone at the hotel was sweet about her & the room came stocked with doggie bowl, treat & poo bags. nice touch. We stayed in a two bedroom suite with a full kitchen. There was a gas stove (looks like wood burning) that served as the heater. The kitchen was well appointed and we came with ingredients to make a pizza and that is just what we did. Success! No complaints about the kitchen.. it is small but perfect for meal making. The bed was comfortable and all the linens were fresh and white. This was a cozy place, painted white and sea grey.. very fresh & bright, cute beachy decor. Less rustic than the Inn at Arch Cape. We saw a perfect sunset from the beach.. long views in both directions. We lucked out and had gorgeous sunny days in Gearhart! It was a great place to stay! Other details: There is a yard that looks great for hanging out if you are there in warmer weather.. could even be a good wedding/event space. pet friendly. tons of DVD's to choose from. friendly staff. nice shower. very clean. comfortable beds and linens. fully appointed small kitchen, free wi-fi. If you are headed to the coast, this is an excellent place to stay! The town has a cute bakery and a nice corner market that had pretty much anything you could possibly need. As we were heading out of town towards Astoria we saw there is a bowling alley right there! That is cool and would be a fun thing to do while staying here. Such a cute little cottage! Gearhart is the cutest tiniest little quiet town and only about a 3 minute drive to Seaside, and 20 minutes to Cannon Beach. This Inn is about 2 blocks from the beach, and right on the main corner of town (with a little grocery store and a bakery and restaurant on the other side of the street). They have a great DVD collection that you can rent for free, and they also had a collection of books and games. They didn't have any wifi, but that was sort of nice to unplug for a few days anyway! read more

Love this place. We ran across it just by chance and so glad we decided to stop and give it a try. I'm all about cleanliness when we stay places and this place nailed it. Super clean, even the shower. Their attention to detail made it seem as though you were at home away from home. The beds were super uncomfortable for me, but the setup with 1 full and 1 twin was perfect for travel with a kiddo. The staff was great as well. We would totally stay again and maybe bring our pup. Dog friendly hotel. Also beach is in walking distance as well as a small market, a couple restaurants, and a coffee/ice cream place. I spent one hour calling various hotels along the Oregon Coast to see if they had a room available for one night on Memorial Day weekend for me and my pup. I know that my request was a diamond in the rough and the hotels were either all booked or the room cost an arm and a leg. Then I stumbled upon this cute little inn via Google and a friendly voice said they might have a room and that a booking agent would soon call me back. A few minutes later a lady walked me through the process and I booked my room. I had very little hopes for this inn because 1. It was affordable 2. I didn't really look to see any photos (I was just so excited that I found a place to rest with my dog). When I got there I was greeted by a friendly front desk lady and I was given my room key and signed a bunch of paperwork. Then I walked into my room and I was in awe at how freaking adorable the place was. I couldn't believe that I got the room on a busy weekend for that price. Not to mention I was taken care of from the start. From the saltwater candy to all the accommodation for my pup - I will certainly be back! I was traveling through a few weeks ago and happened upon this adorable place... I spoke to the lady in the office and she was great. We spoke of a few other hotels in the area and she advised me to go check one out and if I was to decide to come back that she would be out of the office and to call the number on the door. I went and I came back and called the number. No answer, waited called again no answer, waited called again no answer... called a fourth time left another voice mail and left the area going towards seaside when I got a call back from a lady named patty. She was rude from the moment she called me. She did ask me to go back to the hotel and that to call her when I got there and she would give me the key box number and then I could meet the lady that worked in the office would meet. I drove back and she refused to rent me a room because she said I was being difficult. I had been driving most of the day I was tired and hungry and I had explained a few different times that I wanted to making it to the restaurant before 8 and she kept me on the phone. I asked for the owners contact information and she stated she was the owner and that she lived in Portland. Totally rude and unprofessional! read more

By far my favorite place to stay on the Oregon coast. Cannon beach is a madhouse. I go to the beach to relax. I'll take the beautiful grassy dunes of Gearhart over haystack rock any day. I highly recommend staying here. It's a lovely room, they have a great courtyard that our daughter played in while we relaxed in comfy chairs. I also recommend asking about Fitzgerald's Cottages. This place has two great cottages adjacent to the property. They are lovely, private courtyards and a private fire pit patio right outside your door. My daughter loved the area, there is an ice cream shop nearby as well as a bakery, grocery store and tennis courts. We took our dog and it was great because Gearhart does not have a leash law. So our dog got to run around and enjoy the beach. read more

I LOVE these little cottages. They are in the perfect location and are so cute and cozy!! We were lucky that they had the availability when we booked last minute. The staff was very accommodating and friendly and the location is perfect! It's about a 5 minute drive from Seaside, which was ideal for us as it can get a bit busy and crowded right in the city. You can walk to the Gearhart beach which, personally, I think is better than Seaside's beach because it's more private. We will definitely be returning! read more

Stayed here for 2 days after nabbing a deal on living social. The hotel is very cozy and warm, which is good because the weather was awful during our stay. The hotel is just 10 minutes from Seaside and the beach. We brought our 2 kids and the hotel is also dog friendly. The rooms are very clean and the staff has been courteous. They have free wifi too. The Gearhart Ocean Inn is a regular stop for us during our annual Oregon coast vacation. The suites are small but cozy. Gearhart is a quiet little town, but has a nice bakery and ice cream shop. The Gearhart beach, which is walking distance from the inn is lovely and quiet. This is by far a better place to stay than the crazy touristy towns of Seaside and Cannon Beach. Enjoy those towns during the day and spend your nights in Gearhart. The rooms we've stayed in had a nice little living room with fireplace. Each night we enjoyed a movie borrowed from the office for free. A nice collection to choose from or bring your own DVDs. The kitchen is small but stocked with everything we needed to make several meals. One unit we stayed in had a dishwasher, the other did not. Remember that this inn is old, and you can tell by the layers of paint on the cabinets, but don't worry, everything is clean. I have two minor complaints. The wifi was weak and spotty and the shower doesn't run very hot. It is warm enough, but don't plan on a hot steamy experience. It can be a little disappointing after a breezy, chilly hike to and from the ocean. The Gearhart Ocean Inn is a nice alternative to the pricey places in the more touristy towns. The staff are wonderful and so friendly and you will find everything you need in your suite or available from the office or bike room. read more

We have gone to Gearhart Ocean Inn several times over the years, including with pets. It is always clean and comfortable, with lovely furnishings. It is an easy walk to the main street and the beach. We usually bring most of our food, which works well with the kitchen and eating space. Of course the Oregon Coast is beautiful! read more

This Inn has the worst customer service I have encountered. I booked our reservations with Kathleen, who I believe owns the Inn at Seaside, about a week ahead for Saturday and Sunday night. We live about an hour and a half away in Beaverton, and had heard about the tsunami evacuations at Seaside on Thursday before our trip. We left a voicemail message at the Inn, inquiring about rescheduling our stay. Kathleen called back, leaving a message saying that she had "made it to work 30 minutes earlier than normal and that everything was fine." This seemed odd since it was all over the news that the entire city had conducted evacuations at 7AM that morning. So we called her back, confused and still concerned about actually heading out to the coast. After a long discussion, she finally acknowledged the tsunami evacuations and said that rescheduling is an option but suggested that we call back on the day that our room was booked in case everything had settled down. She reassured us that if we were still concerned, she would reschedule us. We waited until Saturday, as suggested by Kathleen, but still did not feel comfortable enough to go to the coast as the area was still on alert. We called back to reschedule, and she refused to do so even though she had assured us just a few days prior that she would "work with us to reschedule." When we pointed out her promise to us, we received the response "well, I'm completely booked for the next two to three months out." When we pushed, pointing out that it was not possible for the place to be booked 2 to 3 months out considering that there were still multiple rooms available when we booked our reservation only a week ago. Kathleen finally admitted, "The only thing I have open are weekdays or a Sunday/Monday." She was not willing to work with us at all and had not only disregarded the tsunami evacuations by the city in our initial discussion (playing down the situation as if we were overreacting), but she also lied about the true state of booked rooms at her Inn. She pretty much held out for as long as possible giving us the runaround, made it as difficult as possible to reschedule, and then refused to work with us as promised or even to refund any of our money. I understand that this was a unique circumstance, but the deceitful way that it was handled is unacceptable. I would not recommend this Inn to anyone who expects courteous and honest service. read more
