We try to book a long weekend a couple times a year. This is our Happy Place. Each condo is individually owned so look at the pics to find what works for you. I highly recommend room G716. I also recommend booking 2nd floor or up to get the view. The husband and I love it because the view is great and it's somewhat quiet. The office staff are INCREDIBLE! Rarely have we needed anything but the one time we had an issue, they went above and beyond to make it right. You are close to Warrenton and Seaside. Right by the oldest golf course in the PNW, great food at the Sandtrap, and again the VIEW! Last year we saw a whale and baby playing just past the whitecap waves! Such an unfortunate visit. We stayed in Pacific Palisades P464. Avoid this unit. It was outdated and in disrepair. Horrible smell throughout. Broken door locks, unusable showers. Nice view and great location but we checked out early as the accommodations were poor. read more

Gearhart by the Sea, oh what can I say about thee. Gearhart is probably my second favorite coastal town to stay in when visiting the Oregon Coast and Gearhart by the Sea gets my business every time. This place is more than a hotel, as each condo is fully furnished/equipped to suit all of your needs. Full kitchens in every unit and also access to he pool/jacuzzi is included, you cannot go wrong. Each unit in this complex is independently owned and decorated to the taste of he various owners. You can stay in a different unit each visit and he experience will be different yet the same. Located right on a golf course and conveniently next to a McMenamins as well as being a block away from the beach, you will be want for nothing. I highly recommend Gearhart By the Sea is you are staying in the area be it short or long term. Enjoy!! read more

We spent five nights in Condo 699, the pictures on the Web site are accurate. The view was majestic fog rolling in the morning, with peaks of sunshine. The beach is about a 4 min walk from the condo, it stretches for what seems to be miles. Pleasant walks for a couple of seniors. The front desk was very welcoming upon arrival and the few times we popped in, to get fresh towels. The kitchen is fully stocked, with all the utensil's needed to cook. The reason I am giving it 4 starts: The bed in the bedroom needs to be replaced, roll to the middle, and worn out. The condo needs to be organized the kitchen closet is a mess, games, folding chairs, and other things, no room to but anything you bring for meals. However the view and serenity make up for it. read more

Stayed here with my wife and baby last weekend, Saturday through Monday. The good: The condo is decently large, with a master bedroom that we slept in and a big living room where we set up the baby's bed, as well as a nice little kitchen where we made breakfast and picnic lunch. The decorations and furniture are pretty and well arranged and overall the space is quite pleasant. The bad: They claim there is Wi-Fi, but in our unit at least it was impossible to actually get on the network. I tried calling the customer service number provided and the woman I got kept me on the line for 25 minutes and did not ultimately help at all. At the main office they were fairly blase about the situation and basically said it wasn't their responsibility. They did give me the password to the condo owners' Wi-Fi, but that didn't work either. Also, the showerhead in the unit was so low that I had to bend over to wash my hair. I'm not a freakishly tall man; at six foot even I am only slightly above average, and have never stayed anywhere where I had issues with the height of the showerhead before, but I had them here. Moreover, the kitchen lacked a sponge or brillo pad for cleaning pots and dishes so as to use them over during our stay - I made do with a cloth but this was rather annoying. Finally, the bed was a little hard for my taste, though it should be said my wife likes mattresses a bit firmer and thought it was perfect. All in all, it was a decent experience for the price and it gave us what we needed, but the flaws were noticeable as well. Obviously no one comes to the beach for the Wi-Fi, but when you have a baby and can't stay out late it's nice to have Netflix and such for entertainment at night. I rate it solidly mediocre; I would consider staying there again, but only if I need the condo space for a baby. read more

My family and I have been staying at Gearhart for years. It is always a nice stay. The rooms are always clean and very nice. The views are excellent, almost a view from every room (except for some ground level condos, but that's ok!). The beach in front of the condos is one of my favorites. Value: for under $200, its relatively reasonable compared to other hotels in the area. 3 beds, kitchen, large balcony great beach view. I'm not going to give an unfair review and compare to non-coastal cities. This place would have a value of $100 in the city. No complaints about value, especially on Memorial Day weekend. It's 10-30% cheaper based on season. Unit: yes, ugly and outdated decor from the 80s. Since each condo is privately owned, then it's at the discretion of the owner of maintenance and renovation costs. Stayed in Palisades condos. Old and falling apart. Thorough cleaning would be nice. Mold on the shower curtains was gross. Amenities: 3 tvs and only 1 works. Beds were soft. Couches heavily worn and uncomfortable. So-called free Wi-fi wasn't accessible from our room. No AC, only heat. Good lighting. Close pool, restaurant and beach access. Plenty of seating. We were able to seat 25 people for breakfast between inside and outside. Outside furniture and area are dirty, web filled, and rusted furniture. You are next to a golf course (across the street), and public tennis courts (1/2 mile). 10 mins from Outlet stores, 15 mins away from Safeway. read more

Booked the 1,000 sq ft 1st floor pet friendly Parkside Terrace Condo #T445 for a 3 day stay for our 1st time to the Coast, our 25th Wedding Anniversary and the Wedding of our best friends (at the Resort) with our (2) small pups. Driving into Gearhart and onto the property we were giddy - the grounds are well kept and clean and the ocean. . .you could hear it as we checked in! Upon entering the unit we were slammed by the pungent smell of urine, dirty people/animals, and mold! One of our pups didn't even want to go in! I'm not kidding - our eyes were watering. You could immediately see the unit was dated and old - but I mean I'm older - so I can see past old if its CLEAN - this was not the case. Pet Friendly and they put down rugs/runners? Why?? That was mostly the source of the smell as you could see pet stains on many of them - immediately pulled the runners out onto the porch but it just went down hill from there. The walls/floors were filthy, the kitchen had grease splatter all over the walls, hair/crumbs in the drawers, every curtain was stained and dirty (again - why the curtains? Blinds you can wash down regularly are so much better). Every surface was dusty and it looked like they hadn't changed sheets, the mattress in the 2nd bedroom was so lumpy you could see the body prints, the smaller bedroom looked like someone just took a nap in it and forgot to smooth the bed/pillow - I didn't want to open ANY of the dark dingy closets but needed to make sure we didn't have any additional guests - but with several sets of strange padlocked doors - I was afraid someone WAS living there when we were away! The fan they provided was covered in dirt, the lamps were so dusty and covered in dirty fingerprints, every single fan outtake was so thick with dirt that I'm sure they stopped working a long time ago. The bathrooms by far were the worst - the black mold that is taking over the showers/bath/base boards is horrifying - again, I get it - it's the coast its moist but this is out of control. There has to be way to treat it between it and then maintain it between guests. Especially, if you are at all immune-compromised, which I am, you just can't stay here. The shower curtain was moldy and the towels were old and discolored. Housekeeping came over to try to treat the smell - it helped for about 1hr - as we tried to calculate how much time we would actually be spending in the unit vs not as I am saying to my husband that we will just wear our shoes everywhere, take a shower in our friends unit (which was WAY cleaner than ours and updated), go to the store and buy cleaning products so we can put something in the fridge and not get some disease from the filth on the door handles (check out the pic of the Lysol wipe - that was only the front/back door handle in the master bath!) - - at $1400 for the weekend? Adding to the stress its the coast in peak season and we have 2 small pups - there was no where to go! There was nothing available the 1st night ANYWHERE. But by the grace of God, the River Inn at Seaside agreed to take us for our remaining 2 nights- never thought I'd love the smell of bleach so much. When we checked out EARLY the next day with no where to go until a 3pm check in at the new place, out a $300 deposit and one nights stay, I was exhausted from no sleep - that smell! and thinking we for sure were going to get bitten by mites - my perfectly planned anniversary weekend was off to a rough start! I do want to thank the manager Tami, for offering our 1 night at a discount - - I wish they could have helped more on getting some of our down payment back. . . I didn't see any reviews on this particular unit and you can't leave a review on their website? so hope the next guest will see this and know what they are getting for their money. Its a big misconception that when you travel with pups you must be willing to stay where it is noisy and filthy - - I don't live that way and don't expect that when traveling - especially when paying more money in the hopes the accommodations are reflective of the price. read more

We stayed at the Sabey house March 8-11 in Seaside, OR! It was amazing. the house and the view were both beautiful. Costumer service was great. There was two negative things. They didn't tell us the yard was completely ripped out, and with small children we were banking on the yard so that was disappointing l! And the board game, and "movie theater" experience are both outdated and missing pieces. So if you need, bring your own movies & bring some of your own board games or a deck of cards. What actually happened was that we spent a fair amount of money to get the frikkin run-around when we checked in, by two young women who started the interaction super-defensive, with bad attitude, unwilling to help, compromise, or finesse. I was truly afraid that I was going to be late for the frikkin wedding that I was there for in the first place. Because of the slow/late check-in, I was not really able to get ready like I had planned. These people had no sympathy. And that made me think back to when I made my reservation by telephone: that person, although able to take my room order like she would an order for a ham sandwich, seemed like she'd worked in hotels for about five minutes. I sense a staffing issue. No coffee, no services, and the amenities (ex. the fitness room) are lame, dirty, and outdated. I think we happened to be particularly lucky in that our condo had been redecorated since 1982. I think if I had come out here for a nice long, say four-day weekend type-vacation I woulda been able to take advantage of our spacious condo with a remodeled kitchen and deck that had a partial ocean view. We would walk down to the hot tub and the beach and play cards and go swimming and, youknowwhat, in my imagination this long-weekend vacation is with like twenty family members, and my cousins and I would stay up late watching Seinfeld and playing Apples to Apples. When I was here, I thought: You Suck. But in retrospect, because I can easily imagine things working out better, I'll leave two stars. read more

Great spot! It's cute, quaint and clean. Each room is set up as your own unit with a front deck to hang out on. The inn has a cute courtyard with a fountain and flowers as well as a bonfire pit. It's a block from the beach and on the main street in town so all of the shops and restaurants are within walking distance. The inn also offers perks for guests, such as selecting DVDs from their movie library, renting beach towels/blankets and beach chairs at no cost. The TVs are setup to stream Netflix and other apps but you will need to sign into your own account. I really loved my trip to Cannon Beach and if I ever make it back I'd definitely book here again. read more

Was told that the entire resort was fully booked (we got the 2nd to last room) Upon arrival no wi-fi and were then advised that when the resort is at full capacity the late-comers to the wi-fi dont get on. Unit was so-so on cleanliness and the mattress reminded me of a mattress at my college fraternity. Owner's choice in furniture selection also had a frat-house vibe Probably a good place for a young family vacation on a budget who wont mind thrashed decor because their own stuff is probably thrashed too. I stayed here for 3 nights in Unit 663. These are privately owned condos. The lady at the front desk was very nice and made me feel welcome. There are pros and cons of the unit I stayed in. Pros: A very nice full kitchen, good distant ocean view, quiet, I really liked the electric fireplace in the unit. The bedroom was very nice and looked great! The condos are centrally located. Cons: I did not sleep well at all, the mattress sunk. Also, the inside of the unit, besides the kitchen, just looks old and tired...it needs an update. Also, old worn brown sofa and love seat, brown carpet that is pulling away from the floor. I would not want to walk on this carpet with out shoes or slippers. The free wifi would not connect most of the time. One evening I came back to room and I had no lights; maintenance came by and fixed the issue very quickly, he was nice. Overall it was OK read more

Condos and all individually owned. Owners must not be bound to improvement requirements as all units are different when it comes to renovations. Stayed here for a family reunion so 10 units were used. Some were updated and most were not. Some had decent kitchen items, ours did not. Don't be fooled by the "sleeps 6" if a pullout couch is part of the mix. Broken in 2 units and poor quality mattress. Overall, nice proximity to beach gives this a 2 star rating. But accommodations were less than a 2 star for our room. read more

I adore Gearhart By The Sea. Yes, the majority of the rooms look like they've been decorated by your grandma, but I find it incredibly charming. The views are spot on, the patio perfect for a glass of wine, and the walk to the beach easy for anyone of any age. Plus my dogs adore it here and the service is top notch. What a great Spring Break with my family and pets. It was a comfortable place that treat you with all the accommodations needed. Having a washer and dryer on site was really helpful. Also it's so close to the beach it was nothing to just take a quick walk on the beach before bed. The Elk even came by for a beach stroll while we were there. Our kids enjoyed the pool and we loved the hot tub spa. Will be staying again hopefully sooner than later. read more

I was quite pleased with our stay at Gearhart by the Sea. Our unit was clean and offered a pleasant view of the ocean. The walk to the beach was less than 5 minutes. We had an entryway with coat hooks, a clean bathroom, spacious bedroom, open kitchen and comfortable living room. The sliding glass doors led to a balcony. We left the doors open most of the time and let the cool breeze come in off the ocean. The shower head in the bathroom was a little low for me, and I'm not that tall, but it was nothing unmanageable. The television had a plethora of channels including HBO so even without renting a movie from the main office we never had any difficulty finding something to watch. Since each suite is unique I could see how staying here might be a bit of a gamble but I genuinely had a great experience. I would highly recommend this location to a family with younger children as it's very close to downtown Seaside and the beach. The kitchen presents a great opportunity for having lunch or even dinner without going out. read more

My family and I have been staying here since I was a child, I have many fond memories of this place! While many of the rooms are outdated, I do believe they are privately owned so I cannot hold that against them. The best part about this place is any condo you rent gets you access to one of the two pools on site, as well as a kitchen and fireplace in your room! This is a great place to stay for an extended beach get away. There are lots of trails through the dunes to the beach or you can use the drive way access where you can even drive on a section of the coast. The beach is never too crowded and is well kept. The property is incredibly dog friendly, many of the rooms allow for dogs and they have lots of dog areas on the resort. They have the Sand trap restaurant on the property as well which is convenient to be able to walk to and grab a drink after a day in the sand. While I have not used the golf course personally, I have heard good things but I would look for someone else's review on the matter. All in all it's a pretty cool place, definitely not the nicest place to stay in town but it's cozy and dear to my heart. read more

Our favorite package, the Hammerhead, is the same price year round. But on this December Friday the hotel is relatively quiet. After drink, salad and tots in the Pot Bunker bar during happy hour we went for a walk along the wide beach to see the beautiful sunset. Dinner in the Sand Trap Pub was fine: the burger, higher pappardelle and mushroom soup were very good, but the NW clam chowder was excellent! Our king room, 211, overlooking the golf course had a table, 2 chairs, 3 lamps phone TV and radio. The shower with a built-in seat was Sublime. This is the fourth Hotel on this site in the last 122 years, and probably the friendliest. The third was razed to make room for some very unattractive Condominiums which block the view of the ocean from the hotel. However it's an easy walk down a quiet street to the beach where you can walk for miles. The McMenamins brothers achieve the same quirky, eclectic and welcoming feel of their other properties, but in a very peaceful and beautiful setting. Before you book with Gearhart by the Sea you need to ask for actual photographs of the space/condo you will be renting. We stayed in a condo that was horrific. The smell of stale OLD furniture met you at the door. EVERYTHING in the condo was seriously dated (70's maybe?) and broken down. The couch seriously sunk down in the middle so you felt like you were sitting on the floor. The beds were scary. I spayed a disinfectant spray on the sheets, stayed in my clothing and did not cover up. The glass tables and lamps were filthy in the master bedroom. There were holes in the walls from where they had removed curtains. The bathroom had rust all over the door jams, the kick boards were broken and chipped and the hand towel had dried food on it. Attempting to shower was NOT going to happen due to the lack of cleanliness. The dishes in the cupboard were dirty. The kitchen coffee pot and microwave were sticky. The kitchen table had crumbs on it. THE WHOLE PLACE WAS JUST GROSS AND NOT COVID CLEAN OR CLEAN AT ALL. SO DISGUSTED AND DISAPPOINTED! I did take photographs and showed the check out lady at which time She suggested I send them to the manager which I have done. I do want to say the view is awesome and the McMenamins Pub within the resort was amazing! read more

I have celiac disease and can not eat out thus really need and appreciate the full kitchens each unit has. Wonderful view of ocean, Cascade Head to the south, beach, waves. Lovely. We have stayed here a couple of times now over the passed 2 years. The rooms are nicely made up and seem pretty clean. Most don't have a lot of dishes or things to cook with so the kitchens are almost useless unless you have less than 4 people staying. The reason why i'm giving low stars on this place is the staff. The front desk always seems to be rude or have an attitude. The house keeping is slow and doesn't ever bring you what you ask for unless asked multiple times. The main reason why i'm even making this review is the MAINTENANCE GUYS. The last 3 times i've stayed here, they have made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The first interaction was when my boyfriend and I were walking up and down the stairs to get stuff from our cars and one man kept following us. When we went up the stairs the last time, he was hiding on a level in a dark, dark corner staring at us. we almost couldn't see him. Then he would walk very slowly along the back of the condos several times staring hard at us the whole time we were on our balcony as if we were doing something wrong. After this last trip, we had a maintenance man stare at us the whole time we were outside, while he was sitting in his truck. Just makes me feel uncomfortable when we can't even walk to our car without feeling like we're going to get jumped or mugged by their staff. Plus, my mom is handicapped and the elevator is TERRIFYING to ride in. it makes awful sounds, shakes a lot and sometimes stops while in it or while waiting for it. Doesn't seem like they renovate or fix or work on ANYTHING in these condos. read more

I'm shocked by all of the negative reviews. We have stayed here the last four years in a row for 3-4 nights. We always stay in the same two room condo which is so nice and has a beautiful ocean view. This year our favorite room was booked, so we stayed in a one room with a loft and it was just as nice. It's always clean and as updated as beach properties go. We have younger kids, so the extra space and amenities in the room makes staying here extra easy. They have a full kitchen, pots/ pans, silverware, everything you need. The front desk is always extra helpful and nice when we ask for extra towels, coffee, etc. They have pack n plays for kids they'll bring to your room, I forgot swim diapers and they had them at the front desk at no charge. They also have some DVDs for rent at the office. Exceptional customer service! I get that each condo is different because they're privately owned, but if you go on their actual website it will show you pictures of each room with decor and the view so you can decide if it's nice enough/ up to date for your taste. We love it here and couldn't recommend it more! read more

Don't stay here. Big disappointment. Unit was spacious but had a bad odor we couldn't get rid of. Old cigar butts in planter on deck that was filled with a dead plant. View of ocean was distant and over roof of old pool building. Maid service promised but never happened. Thin mis- matched towels. No hairdryer!! Broken slat in blinds. Slide to deck so heavy and sticky that two men and a boy couldn't open and close it. Unknown stains on dining room chairs. Hate to think what they might have been....all chairs had them, not just one. Unit 468. On the plus side, the front desk was helpful and Sandtrap restaurant fairly good. One star is for that alone. Otherwise might be over rated. We did complain to the front desk upon check-out and they credited us a small amount for the lack of maid service, but because all units are individually owned, couldn't adjust it anymore. We won't go back. There are so many other choices, that we'd rather take our chances with a new place than revisit one we had such a bad experience with. It's a shame, because it's a great location that is close to the beach. read more

This place is odd. My first impression was that I had accidently stumbled into an old woman's room at an elder care facility. The furniture, the old appliances, the decorations, even the smell all seem to be supporting that motif. It certainly feels lived in, as I found unused furniture, paint cans, and other maintainence equipment inside the closets in both the bedroom and living room. I was hoping that being "by the sea" would mean that I would have a nice view, but upon stepping onto the back porch, I was greeted by a view of the back side of one of the other buildings. So, that was less than pleasant. The shower doesn't work how you'd expect. This is a minor issue, but it almost feels like the method of going from bath to shower was purposefully hidden. And this place touts "free wifi" but don't believe it. What Wi-Fi there is is so painfully slow that it might as well be non-funtional. Also, there's no air conditioning. There's a heater, but that's it. So if it's the summer, and you sleep poorly in the heat, prepare for a long and uncomfortable night. Everything here is designed to bring you back to being a toddler staying at grandma and grandpa's place while you're parents went on vacation. Everything is off, dated, broken, or uncomfortable. The location is fine, right between Astoria and seaside, but you might as well spend your money on a good hotel there. The staff is friendly and they provide great service. That's the only saving grace that's keeping this above a one star. read more

We have stayed here over the years love most is that if you get the multi bedrooms it feels like your at home. This last time we stayed in 405 right in front of beach. Very nice room, but some of furniture could be updated, but it was clean. Full kitchen w two ovens and a great place for families or groups wanting to hang out.
