It's worth a tour and tasting even if it's outside of downtown, and you'll likely find a flavour you hadn't had before (like the pickle moonshine...), although some definitely has an amount of sugar that might make a hangover more likely in your future ;) Personally, I always go for the baby barrel whiskey, because of the depth of the taste despite it being quite young. Had a voucher for the tour. Wife insisted that I take off for my 61st birthday. She is so smart. Not a very big place, but they put 40 something varieties of shine and bourbon. Sampled quite a few. Bought quite a few. Suzy Snowflake was a great tour guide. Girls were very fun and engaging. Really like the adoption of wood cask for future occasions. Kim seems like a very interesting character, wish we toured later in day. Will definitely make the drive back here again, but we have to empty a few bottles first so can return them. We went on an adult field trip to McLaughlin earlier this week for a tasting/tour and it was SO much fun!! The owner, Kim McLaughlin, and the staff in general were funny and welcoming and it was really cool to see what goes on behind the scenes and taste all their different moonshines and spirits. They essentially let us try all their products and I really enjoyed the apple pie moonshine (which they warmed up and topped off with whipped cream) and I took home a bottle of it later. The distillery itself is on the smaller side but they have a front room where you do all the tastings, a back room, and an upstairs. They were very patient with us as we (aka I) goofed around a lot and took a bunch of pictures. Some of us were also late during to a road closure but I called ahead to let them know and they were so nice about it. They offer other cool things like cocktail making classes and the chance to name a barrel so we'll be back for sure! read more

This place is tucked away just off of the main road. We went with a group of six to do the tour and tasting and had so much fun! They have over 20 different flavors of moonshine from basic flavors like grape, peach and black cherry to root beer, coffee and pickle! They also have a few creamy flavors that are great mixed with a non-creamy option. The creamy vanilla and root beer is like a root beer float. Or the coffee with creamy butter pecan was also delicious. They also have vodka and bourbon. My husband likes their flagship bourbon, 3799 Bourbon. The tasting is 1.5oz per person but they are generous as long as you're not getting rowdy. We started with some tasting, then did about a 20 minute tour to learn about their process. We got to sample some high octane moonshine. They don't actually bottle it, although they could. It was too potent for my tastebuds. We were also able to sample a cask strength bourbon. My husband and the rest of the guys in our group enjoyed it. After the tour we went back into the tasting room for more samples. Our group purchased a lot of different bottles. A favorite was the creamy limoncello. It's delicious mixed with champagne. I also really loved the naked grape, it tastes like Welch's grape juice. The staff was so friendly and fun! Tried one of the distillery tours. Told myself I would just try to learn. Yeah right! I ended up purchasing the Arnie's Creamy Butter Pecan Cello! I don't even like nuts or it's derivatives, so that should tell you how good it was! Tried so many samples and they were more delicious and creative than the one before. This was my first time visiting McLaughlin. I've seen signs for it previously, but I didn't know where it was located. When I saw a Groupon, I knew I needed to make a visit! The worker was so kind as he led us through a sampling. I sampled mostly moon shines, while my boyfriend sampled whiskies. As we were sampling, the worker took us back and showed us around. I enjoyed learning about the moon shine making process, watching the machinery do it's work, and seeing all the barrels stacked up! My boyfriend liked the whiskies, but they were quite pricey. We ended up taking home a bottle of the Mango Moon Shine ($30) to use for mimosas and other mixed drinks! read more

We love McLaughlin Distillery! I usually try to visit a place at least several times before I write a review, just to be thorough, and to be sure that what we liked is consistent. And in our about 6 visits, McLaughlin's has always been excellent in every way. So many great spirits---from the 20 some moonshine flavors (from pickle to chocolate to lemonade to margarita and so much more), to the bourbon and vodka, it is all high quality. You will find something you like! The most unusual, and my favorites, are the creamy options---Limoncello, Butter Pecan Bourbon, Creamy Bourbon. If you've never tried these, go here and try them! Meaning, if you want a sample to find something you like, they will let you. These people care about their customers, and understand how to please them. They know that the best way to sell their product is to let people taste it. I may have tasted about 80% of everything there, and there is not much I didn't care for (this could be a problem!). If you are on their email list, they will periodically let you know what is on sale, and that's what usually brings us in. Then of course, we find at least a couple other things we love and have to buy. So that's the product---what about the employees? They are all awesome! Everyone is friendly, efficient, patient, accommodating. They go out of their way to see that you are happy and taken care of, and your visit is memorable. We took their tour today, which I recommend. It is right behind the tasting room, and is not long, but it's enlightening, interesting and fun. They do everything there, and it's all explained. And you get even more samples! And this is something we always appreciate---they are genuinely very dog friendly. If people were visiting us from out of town, we would take them there. As they say in their ads---their pleasant little tasting room is "tucked away in the hills of Sewickley". So it's a nice drive, but not hard to get to. We don't need the excuse of entertaining guests, though---we just go periodically because it's such a cool place, and definitely worth supporting. read more

We honestly did not know what to expect coming into this tour and tasting today, but let me tell you, we were not disappointed in the slightest! I planned this for my dads birthday last year but with Covid, they had to shut down the tours. Now that they are opened back up, we finally all got together and made it out here. I made the reservation online a week or so in advance and the process was super easy. Unfortunately, I had to call and switch the time for the following tour, and the employee on the phone was the kindest girl ever. I was not sure if this process would be easy, but she made it super simple and not stressful at all. We arrived, checked in, and payed. Following this, we began to sample whatever moonshines and bourbons we wanted. The male worker then started to explain the different flavors and how they taste, while including some jokes of course! And before we knew it, it was time for the tour. The owner took us in the back and begin to explain the whole process of how moonshine is made. He even let us taste something special, but you will have to take a tour to figure out what it was! He was extremely experienced in this craft and we were all amazed by his knowledge. My dad decided to purchase a Baby Barrel Bourbon Whiskey and he was able to bottle it himself. He loved this experience and will definitely remember it forever. if you like hard liquor or flavored liquor, this is a great place to go. Small and nestled in a quaint part of the woods, they have a good operation. They sometimes have limited flavors and I got the "411" on some chestnut like flavor and scooped it up before they sold out. Limoncello is a great recipe. Probably one of the best for feeling like I ate a quality lemon cream pie. This ain't the straight up limoncello you might be thinking of but it is still good in this creamy layered type of way. They seem to have a different sale on a moonshine flavor every now and then. You can also recycle the bottles at the store for $2 a bottle up to $10 off your next purchase of alcohol. I personally like the sustainability thing. They'd start a recycle plant in-house if they could. If you order $63 or up, shipping is free. (price here updated 8/30/21) If you're local or plan on visiting the store, reserve to take the tour if you want to try moonshine raw and never have. It takes like "cotton candy." Really cool place on the smaller side. We did a tour and tastings. The coffee moonshine is bomb!!! They have flavors of moonshine ranging from sour to sweet. Some flavors I've tried are jalapeño, dill pickle, cranberry, lemonade, pink lemonade, chocolate, pumpkin spice, coffee, apple, pineapple and a few others I can't recall. We also sampled the bourbon. I can't believe it took me this long to visit this gem. If you're looking for some guilty pleasure of enjoying amazingly good LOCALLY distilled spirits this is for you, and if not, it's a GREAT place to find a gift for someone else. Upon entering we were quickly greeted and with a smiling, friendly face offering up free samples from ANY whisky or moonshine of your choosing, and even a tasty alcohol free maple syrup. Try anything but don't attempt the Devils juice till the end. It's one of their more pricey spirits but a myriad of surprising tastes. Again try before you buy. The owner,Kim, is more than friendly and helpful in what you are looking for or are willing to be adventurous and partake. Friendly tip is google their location as if not you will pass right by with a blink of the eye. Be sure to visit the restroom too....you'll look the best you've ever been and you'll "see" why. I had found this distillery on Groupon! This was a very smaller distillery but the atmosphere and the group we were with made it fun. We were able to sample nearly all of the 19 moonshines/bourbons. Shame on me for taking so long to review this amazing place! A group of us visited in September for a tour and tasting. It was just us and the owners, so it made for a nice private experience where we didn't have to worry about the mannerisms of other participants. For only $10, we each received a tour of the facility with some history on their start and information on how they make their product. In addition to that, we each received a handful of tastings as well. They're hidden from the road, if you're coming from 79 onto Mt Nebo, look for the sign. Our GPS did a good job directing us but sometimes you never know on this hills/curves. There's a ramp to get into the building, so it is accessible for all. The building is small, but they offer a variety of items for sale in addition to the alcohol. Both individuals who helped us were outstanding (owner and his son, I believe) - super knowledgeable and friendly. Between the four of us, I think we did or came close to trying each item they offer. The Dill Pickle and Jalapeno are both very interesting - they're a must try. I don't know if I could drink an entire bottle, though. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I really enjoyed each of their bourbons, the apple pie and the Strawberry Peach. Make sure you try the Devil's Juice but do it last! I look forward to my next visit to see family as I'm going to try to carve out some time to make a trip to Mclaughlin and re-stock on some essentials! ;) read more

got some apple pie moonshine at Picklesburgh. Seller wrapped it in a paper bag and handed it over. Put the bottle, still in the bag, behind the bar, removed from bag and looked at it today. Still unopened, it had this massive cloud of debris like a bacterial frappe floating like a slimy mucous and taking up almost half the bottle.
