Began going here soon after moving to Georgetown in 2003 when owner Mark was always behind the counter; with frequent questions about what worked well & where, being myself a lawn guy & property maintenance guy but from Wisconsin, myself & not knowing Texas. Was able get some "landscaping theory" about sizes and locations of plants for a yard I planned landscaped in Sun City, then found that Mark actually lived next door to a regular customer in "Old Georgetown" Sputhwestern U" area. Though prices are higher than at HEB or a big box, I continue there for the advice & availability of things like compost and rooting stimulant, and find the crew under Mark's daughter to continue the good advice; and the somewhat higher price but greater variety and knowledge plus my pricing for customers of 1/2 the retail price of their plants bought there make it work out very well for me; and I've just bought my second Sweet Bay for MY OWN yard, recently, when the first, which made great chicken soup, froze during one of the frequent "SnowVid '21," SnowPocalypse '23," deep-freeze events... They have a really good selection of plants that are right for this area and can tell me how to take care of them when I get them at home.

Shopping local over the standard Lowe's or Home Depot run. But be warned, there is no fans or mist to assist keeping your cool during the Texas heat. The selection is vast and they have beautiful chimes and bells inside. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I'd definitely come back, but I'd wear shorts and might bring a hand held fan. read more

This garden center is such a wonderful find in Georgetown. The plants here are very well taken care of, and none of them are from cuttings. They have everything need for your gardening, such as beautiful pots, herbs, vegetables, flowers, trees, bird baths, birdseed, etc. The list is vast And the quality is throughout. The prices are more expensive than let's say Lowe's or Home Depot, but the comparison of products is beyond compare. The items here are upscale and beautiful. You can create a garden that you can be proud of by shopping here. The employees are so kind and very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. They make themselves available, regardless of the busyness of this gardening center. I enjoy coming here just to walk around! They get fresh shipments of plants on a regular basis, so it's fun to come and see what is new. Today, however, I did some shopping! I got some star jasmine vines to go on my fence, can hardly wait to smell those growing. I got many herbs. I got a few types of tomatoes. They actually have tomato plants that are already growing tomatoes, if you don't wanna wait! Lol. Dogs are welcome here. My beautiful fur baby loves all the wonderful scents as we walk. Great Service, Advice, and Plant Selection. I particularly love that they cary plants native to this area and which support native bees and butterflies. Many of the staffers are very knowledgeable about growing plants, and give good advice. Their plants are healthy and transplant well, even in summer heat. If you are trying to be a gardener in North Austin or any of the surrounding towns, this should be your go to place for plants and anything else related to gardening. In addition to only selling plants that can survive in our unique soils and environment, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and patient. Parking is a premium here! It might be better to park in the street if this place is super busy. Overall, my experience was a pleasant experience while shopping at McIntire's Garden Center. The staff were very helpful and kind. They know their stuff and explained all my options when I was looking for the Nitro-Phos fertilizer brand. Thankfully, they had it in stock. I check the Nitro-Phos website and I went to one place in Round Rock, but they had stopped carrying it. Compared to the other place, McIntire's Garden Center has a lot more to offer. Walking around with a cart is pretty darn tight, but don't let that detour from shopping here. I noticed they had all their fertilizer upfront so it was easy to grab and load to your car if you are parked in their private lot. I will be coming back again in the future. read more

This has always been one of my favorite garden centers. Small, local, knowledgeable. I can get bulk fertilizers here for my numerous plants & trees. I was shocked to hear that they are charging 20% surcharge for pickup. I'm really hoping the person who told me that is incorrect. Who wants to pay an extra $40+ on a small, but pricey order that is literally right inside their front door? No searching, easy easy. I've tried to call back to make sure what I want is in stock, but their phones are either not working, or they're just not answering. I keep getting a fast busy. Normally, I would give them 5 stars, but right now, I'm being generous with 3. Great way to take advantage of people who can't risk exposure to this virus!!!! :( read more

Sometimes going to these places, where they know so much, is intimidating but they were so friendly. Disclosure; I'm becoming a crazy plant lady. I was looking for unique plants and a co-worker recommended this place. They had a great variety of big plants at good prices. It is a bit difficult to maneuver around the small pathways with the wagons, I probably could have asked for help sooner. I was really happy to find unique and beautiful plants. I love my new coral bean tree and anachaco tree! I really appreciated the helpful young man who helped load everything into my car even laying down a protective plastic, which came in handy because one of the plants was leaking some water yet my trunk stayed clean. The only negative of the nursery is that based on the signs I saw posted, there is no warranty on any plants. I have found that researching what you plant and caring for it accordingly can help greatly with that issue, though. I am looking forward to returning once the weather cools down! read more

What can I say except covid is not the reason I own a lot of house plants. But covid is the reason I found McIntyres so yay for silver linings. It's a plentiful nursery in Gtown that offers just about every plan you need for your landscaping or house plant obsession...I mean project. Wear CLOSED TOE SHOES....the ground is constantly wet/muddy from watering the plants. Unless you want a mud spa experience in your fave chanclas, trust me on this. Plants are healthy and well maintained. Prices are fair. read more

Global pandemic and not one employee is wearing a mask. Yes, I understand with current state government guidelines, people are no longer required to wear masks, but it's highly irresponsible for a business to be so flippant, particularly when many of their customers are elderly. I respect their right to allow their employees to work mask-less during a global pandemic, and hopefully they respect my right as a customer to call them out and not ever again spend a dime here (which I didn't today). read more

I really wanted to love this place, since we moved quite a ways away from my favorite Austin nursery(Green N Growing), but so far, my impression of & experience at this place is only 'meh'. I saw someone mention that this place has a cacophony of plants, and cacophony is a great way to describe their greenhouse. They have some nice things in there, but it's so cramped and messy you can barely traverse it, and, even if you find something you're interested in, chances are you'll pay a pretty inflated price for it. A lot of their succulents appear etiolated and the price isn't adjusted down for this issue. They've also had several hoya (a current personally favorite) each time I've been, but they've been pretty grossly overpriced based on my experience. The indoor shop area is ~almost~ as cluttered and disorganized as the greenhouse, but at least the aisles are mostly clear. I've been 3 times now and only once has someone working at the nursery/inside the store offered any help even though I was clearly browsing and open to purchase. I've only ever purchased some fertilizer here, and the whole time I was checking out, the staff member checking me out talked to someone else they clearly knew who was in the store. All of this is to say: the staff isn't particularly chatty or even terribly friendly. Their outdoor selection of desert and xeriscaping plants is pretty impressive and on par with larger nurseries, but, again, items are terribly pricey whether they're rare or common. The outdoor area also had a small selection of bedding plants that was so small it surprised me. I'm hopeful this will change when the weather turns a touch warmer. Overall, this place is fine, but, if we're being frank, I'd prefer a big box nursery like HD or Lowe's over this place. I'll definitely stop in a couple more times once the weather gets warmer to see if their selection gets better, but I don't have my hopes up too high. But hey, if it does get better, I'll certainly update my review! read more

I bought 10 cypress tress from McIntire's Garden Center a month ago and planted them. Out of 10 tress 2 of them didn't make it and today I went to talk to the manger(maybe owner) and she was cold and rude! basically said that's your problem and when I said usually other garden centers work with me especially with a big order like this she said THEN YOU SHOULD GO SHOP FROM THEM! I like to support locals but not going back to this place again. I am a business owner of 30 years in Austin and know that is not the way to treat your customers. read more

Visiting local plant nurseries has become somewhat of a hobby of mine lately and out of all the ones I've visited, McIntire's Garden Center is by far my favorite. They have such a variety of plants and the layout makes you feel like you're walking through a secret garden, to which you never know what you'll find. I bought a beautiful 3 foot euphorbia for only $9.95, two beautiful pink caladiums for $2.95 each, and another for $4.94, so the prices will definitely keep me coming back. We bought a large bunny ear cactus here about 3 weeks back and it's already developed a really bad fungus. I contacted them and was told to bring it back in to exchange it. We drove 30 min from Austin to swap it out and saw all their other bunny ear cacti had the same fungus so we picked something else. Once at the register we were told without a receipt (even though we were never given one) we couldn't exchange this. Waste of a morning and very disappointed in their quality of plants and their costumer service. Definitely won't be returning. read more

The staff is friendly and helpful. I like the selection of soil and compost. I go mostly for great salad greens and dark leafy greens. I like how they open early. I am not afraid of getting covid, so I am not afraid to get out and live an active life shopping and socializing. Going to McIntire's makes one feel free to live. Very knowledgeable staff that provide geographically relevant information regarding soil type, sun requirements and corresponding plants that will excel in such soil and sun conditions (e.g. what will grow well on the east side of I-35 versus west side). McIntire's can get very busy on the weekends during planting seasons (i.e. Spring and Fall). The store is minimally staffed, which is not a problem, as it likely ensured the sustainability of a small, local garden center for some decades now. But if you decide to go on a Saturday during a planting season, and the parking lot and garden center ground are full of people, be patient and wait for help. A certain female staffer (usually has blue tooth device in ear) is a little rough around the edges...but like I said, be patient. Even if you wait 30 minutes, you'll save yourself weeks of growing pains ;) Mark McIntire (owner) will also do garden consulting at a very very decent price. My wife and I paid ~ $80 for a consult several months ago, and we have been extremely happy with the results! He drew up a plan based on plants that we liked and wanted (from McIntire's), and what he knew would grow well in our area (old town of Georgetown). The plan even specifically stated which plants should be planted immediately (at the time it was October 2013) and later (which is now, Spring 2014). McIntire's will also deliver plants for a (flat) fee of $25. This is a very handy service if you, like me, don't have a truck but tend to buy a lot of plants at once. Furthermore Mark McIntire himself does, at times, perform the delivery. That's service!! read more
