Had lunch with friends December 8 and was disappointed again. Rockfish, Fisherman's Stew were a couple of the orders and both were cold. Beer was supposed to be cold but wasn't. I called today to speak to the manager about how my order was incorrect. He advised me to contact DoorDash directly and I said that I would, however, my entire family isn't going to wait another hour for me to get my replacement dinner. He continued to get frustrated with me and told me they bagged the order doordash gave them. I know that is a lie considering I was looking at my receipt and it's obvious some else's order was put into my bag, and we were missing a meal, salad, and appetizer. When I asked to speak to someone higher than him, he told me he was corporate and no one else. He was very unprofessional. Only giving them the 2 stars because the rest of the order was fine. I wouldn't have complained on here had he taken responsibility for the restaurant making the mistake instead of blaming it on doordash- since doordash didn't make the food. First time here and will definitely be a repeat customer! Seafood Astoria, seafood linguine, and clam chowder were awesome! We had a reservation and were taken directly to our table when we arrived. Wow, I don't know why they'd have a low rating(now I tend to rate a little on the high side, BUT, I get incredible service....we both get water, I usually get a soda, and often a virgin bl mary/my wife sometimes wine; and people just treat us very well....We used to go to Portland/Lake Oswego/Bridgeport a lot to visit relatives and eat out but Portland is such a dump and I don't want to get stuck in a riot/cars blocking the highway/homeless mess worse than Salem's murder, etc, etc, so we eat here and in Albany, and we enjoy it;less drive/great food/get home early to our kids(pets in this case)Most of our relatives don't mind stopping either.....OK, the people are always friendly, I love the croutons on their salads, the chowder is fantastic, the food great quality, service is efficient, and I never have left disappointed(I used to eat here once a week when I was working but now retired not quite as often) Bathrooms are clean but the mens stall in the middle is really tight fit(door swings the wrong way)for an old fat crippled up guy like me/have to straddle the toilet to get out....) also, we like eating outsides sometimes and if a game is on in the bar area is nice, too. Sadness! Went to McGrath's tonight for a change in seafood options other than RL. Everything is fried..! Why is everything fried? It wasn't listed as fried on the menu. That is a sign of poor quality food and no cooking skills. Why don't you just drowned it in ketchup while you are at it? Coconut prawns (yes, fried... that part was ok) were not prawns at all but medium shrimp. 5 tiny medium shrimp (oxymoronic for certain)! Captains platter, all fried but for snow crab legs that wasn't legally to minimum size (should have thrown that one back!). Better to order fish and chips from some hole in the wall place, where you expect it to be fried. But hey, the Willamette Valley wine was spot on, But McGraths didn't make that.. if they had, they would have found a way to fry it! Average, run-of the mill. Ambience has a tense and old/ run down feeling. Leaning towards another sports bar environment. Sam gets my 2 stars because McG doesn't. read more

Very disappointing, we made a reservation for 3 and put in that one in our party was a baby in an infant carrier. The reservation was for 6pm on a Saturday night, we got there about 20 minutes early and let them know we were there and understood we would have to wait. 6:15 rolls around that have seated several parties before us that came in without a reservation and a few were also parties of 3. 6:45 comes around and just before that they sat a party of 3 and 4 both came in about 6:30...so we went up again they said it would be a little bit, so we said to take us off the list...weird they instantly wanted to seat us when we said we were done waiting. A reservation is completely pointless that McGrath they don't honor them, then act surprised and irritated when you leave after an hour of waiting. read more

The halibut was amazing. However, the first time it was served it was not fully cooked. The waitress was very polite and responsive when I let her know of the uncooked fish. But she seemed very slow. Went here because we fancied some seafood and in Salem there is only a few places. Had not eaten at McGraths for many years..last time was the old place downtown. We went in relativly early for dinner( around 6 PM)..was a small line waiting but we were seated in 10 minutes. Our server seemed new but he tried hard....took a while to get drinks then we ordered fast. Unfortunatly main courses came before appetizers..but it was no big deal. They had the halibut in so i got the halibut fish and chips and have to say the fish and the coating were fine. Daughter got the fish tacos and they were good apart from a couple of fishbones..but that goes with the territory. Overall better than expected..this is an oldster place. We had six adults and three children in our party. They would not allow us to sit together so we had to take to opposite tables. Service was mediocre at best. The server was rude when she got the order wrong. While the restaurant didn't seem very crowded it took a long time to get our meal and as I said part of the meal was wrong. The waiter was excellent and the food prep time was was quick. Unfortunately the food was not very good. The shrimp was over fried and the salad was very basic. Not sure if it's a local thing, but peas were added to my salad and it was very good. Would not visit again or recommend. The food was very good. The Bay City Salmon was delicious with ample crab stuffing and a rich and perfectly prepared sauce. The kids menu was a little lacking, but affordable and the kids were happy. The cocktails were very conservatively mixed. If you are looking for a drink to go with your meal, I'd recommend you stick with wine or maybe a margarita. Go somewhere else for drinks for dessert if you'd like, but skip the bar here if you like mixed drinks that don't taste like soft drinks with a twist of lime. read more

For seafood this is a new local favorite, we both got the fishermans all you can eat platter. It consisted of fish, shrimp, clam strips and a shrimp pasta. Service was a 5, but food was bland and chowder was thick as glue. My shrimp sandwich was bland and had 4 times as many cucumbers as shrimp.

We ordered the Family Fry special on Mother's Day, packed to go since restaurants are currently closed to inside dining. At $45 for a meal for 4, this was a good deal. It included fish, prawns, chicken strips, fries, cole slaw and clam chowder. The four of us had lunch and still had enough food for two for lunch the following day. The prawns had a nice crispy but light coating. Loved the chicken strips with the sesame seed coating. The fish was good but the coating was a bit greasy. They packed the fish on top of the fries, so by the time we got home 20 minutes later, the fries were soggy and a bit greasy from the fish. I put them in the air fryer to crisp them. The chowder and cole slaw came in large containers and were good. Seemed strange that this is a meal for 4 but we only got 3 each of cocktail sauce, tarter sauce, ketchup and honey mustard. Overall a good meal. Next time I would ask that they pack the fries and fish separately. read more

Tonight we dined at the Lancaster location. The hostess was absolutely cringe worthy when we said we'd like a table for five. Should have left. She literally could not have been less welcoming- noting that she'd JUST SAT two large groups, and we'd have to wait a few minutes. This is not our problem and the entire left half of the restaurant was empty! Service was good- kudos for Cody being a good server among the rest of the losers. While we were leaving we saw a MANGY DOG scratching itself near a table INSIDE the dining area!!!! Dear dog people- we all love our pets but there's a time and a place. This was NO SERVICE DOG. It was dirty and disgusting. Poor management allowing this pet inside the restaurant. We won't dine here again. read more

Came in on New Years Eve for some dinner. Wife ordered the twin petite lobster and I ordered the Steak Prawns and petite lobster both with baked potato. The baked potatoes came out half-baked, the green beans were cold and the lobster and prawns were charred. Definitely not the best meal we have had here. I placed an online order. The order was supposed to be picked up at 11:30. I got there a few minutes early and checked in. I was told my food should be ready any minute. I proceeded to wait until about 11:45-11:50 before politely checking in again. The hostess went back to check on my order again. She came back out without even acknowledge me, and began seating a few people who were there to dine in. The manager comes out at about 12:00 and tells me that the order for Tom has already been picked up. I explained to him it surely had, or at least it wasn't picked up by Tom. Luckily I had my order number, and my email confirmation. I finally got my order at 12:25, nearly an after after I was supposed to. Never got an apology once. We visited MaGraths in Salem,OR September, 2021. 1 member of our group became sick after eating odd tasting Cole slaw. After many hours of gastro distress I called the restaurant to report a possible problem and alleviate future issues. After speaking to a manager, I was sent an envelope covered in something so nasty the Post Office placed it in a clear plastic bag! I have never opened it. Am sending their letter back. Ironic, I would not write a review other than McGrath's sent me an email asking, "Review us on Yelp". Be careful what you ask for. First let me say, that we've frequented McGrath's several times over the years and typically I'd give them a four star rating. This time...I'm being kind with three stars. We had called ahead to arrive with another couple. Thus we were seated right away. This was very nice, but where, "Very Nice" ends! Each of us ordered their 'Endless Shrimp'. When our food arrived 3 out of 4 of the Shrimp Scampi arrived less than lukewarm. Thus we requested that the 3 be returned and receive some hot dishes. Our waitress, who for some reason was already on the grumpy side, took the cold dishes. At the same time we requested 2 additional of the 'Beer Battered' shrimp. Very tasty I must add! Anyway, the manager came by and we mentioned our dissatisfaction with the meal and service and he said that he'd put a rush on the dishes. The short of it...we received the 'Beer Battered' shrimp within a timely manner, but the dish that was cold to begin with did not come until after both the waitress and manager walked by to check to see how those 'Scampi' dishes were. Now this was 40 minutes after they had been removed. We said that we had not received them yet. Eventually the 'Scampi' arrived, plenty hot I might add. Through all of this your would think that an apology, plus a reduction of at least one of the meals. We received neither. Today was my first visit to McGrath's Fish House and it is my mom's favorite place to go with her friends from the senior center. I ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad, iced tea, and fishermans stew. My daughter ordered the kids popcorn shrimp, salad, strawberry lemonade, ice cream. The food was really good and the servers' friendliness made us enjoy our meal even more.
