Chinook salmon
Jennifer S.

It was my first time here, as suggested by my brother for a birthday dinner - his treat. He was looking forward to the 'all you can eat' platter and offered several suggestions, but when I saw the Chinook salmon, my mind was made up. I included a cup of clam chowder and Bleu Cheese wedge salad to kick things off. He started with a shrimp cocktail. Bread was good, salad was good, chowder was good, but I wasn't really wowed by anything but the service. My salmon was mushy, veggies; sparse. Shrimp cocktail sauce, plain, though I've admittedly been spoiled with a zingy horseradish burn from other establishments. While the server was pleasant and plenty attentive, when asked if we saved room for desert, it was a definite no. Upsell training; a better tactic would be to show off their seasonal pumpkin tiramisu (a trick learned in my server days). Another missed opportunity; asking if we were celebrating any occasions. Prices were decent considering the menu. Overall a forgettable experience, but nice visit with family. A solid 3.5, if I'm being honest.

Dining in was a better experience then takeout? Dining in at McGrath's the food was excellent and deserving of 5 stars***** but takeout should only be worth 3 stars*** because by the time we got home over a hour away the breading in my pan fried oysters had turned them soggy and the clam chowder at best lukewarm? I will stop again for dining in but no more takeout!

Nice cozy spot. Ordered the charbroiled oysters and was disappointed that it came with tartar sauce which was more like mayonnaise. I have never had oysters with a mayo based anything. Would have preferred cocktail sauce if they had no other sauce. The sole was ok a bit mushy with the "hazelnut" crust. The margaritas was strong but I've had stronger. Overall 3 stars was sufficient.

We decided to try this place last minute and while we had a decent experience it's not somewhere I'd visit again. The service was excellent despite having a new server undergoing training and the restaurant itself was quite large and decorated with various ocean themed decor. We started off with a few appetizers including the ahi poke and crab stuffed mushrooms and everyone agreed that this was the best part of the meal. For our entrees, most of us we're not in love with what we revived. The steak was extremely over cooked and the salmon was dry. However the side garden salad was great and the Mac n cheese was way better than we were expecting.

Wow wow wow ..... we came to treat my mom she suggested this place abd let me tell you ...it didn't disappoint! From the service to the food and drinks delicious! We had a mushroom appetizer and calamari to start oh my , they both were a party in your mouth . My salad was perfect and the salmon was cooked to perfection . I will be coming back whe. I am in Oregon again. .love.

Nice place, standalone building in a shopping mall. Entrance faces the street so it's awkward, especially when it's raining like today. You have to walk all around the building in the rain. The outdoor dining patio (walled off) looks like it "could" be the entrance but it is not. They should clearly mark which way to enter. I had the wedge salad and a great rockfish with cajun sauce. It came with a nice, warm sourdough bread and butter. Hard crust and soft inside. The wedge salad came with a huge wedge of lettuce and generous amounts of cubed tomatoes, bleu cheese, bacon and dressing. This should have been advertised as a sharing salad, it was too big for one unless you're eating it as a main course. My main was a blackened rockfish, crispy outside and a nice fresh fish taste inside. It was smothered with a New Orleans creamy sauce with shrimp, sausage, mushrooms, scallions, peppers and tomatoes. The sauce was a nice accompaniment to the fish. You have a choice of sides and I got green beans, nicely cooked, and garlic mash potatoes. Everything was good and seemed fresh. I declined dessert...the cheesecake looked really good but it was over $9!!

My wife and I had a very enjoyable time. Her Paramessian Halibut was perfect and my Seafood Feast Special $19.95 w/coupon was tasty. If you want a little of everything the Seafood Feast Special is really good. We'll definitely go back to McGrath Fish House in Salem Oregon again..ask to sit in Paul's section he's great.

Happy New Year Yelpies !!! When was the last time you had a craving for fish and chips only to go to the same old spot to be somewhat satisfied with your craving??? Exactly we all fall victim to this unfortunate sensation but... look no further this place is horribly underrated... The server was awesome and the food came out hot and delicious fulfilling my craving. Next time you have a craving for anything fish or more this is the spot that won't disappoint.. Oh yeah the drinks are delicious from the bar

Oh, man... this was my best seafood experience yet! I…read morevisited at about 6PM on a Thursday and was promptly seated for a table of 2. We seriously had the SWEETEST server! She took SUCH good care of us and was super knowledgeable about the menu items and market prices. We got our drinks within minutes and she made sure they were never empty. Not to mention, she checked in on us multiple times during our visit. I ordered the combo # 2 and added a Dungeness crab to it. That bad boy was FRESH. The whole boil was dripping in sauce, cooked perfectly and let me tell you... the Louisiana flavor seasoning is IT!! It's the perfect mix of Cajun and garlic butter. The main star was definitely the Dungeness, but the snow crab was a close second! The legs were a really good size and full of meat! The shrimp was great too! (I always get head-on) I left soooo full and satisfied! Overall, the food was amazing and the service was the best I have received in years.. We will be back soon!

Mixed Bag (o crab)…read more The food was almost all great. We tried garlic fries, salad, clam chowder, snow crab, king crab, and lobster. DS picked this restaurant for celebrating his 18th b-day, so it was disappointing that his king crab was twice as expensive as the snow crab and not great quality. Everything else was great - fresh, saucy, and well-seasoned. I liked that we could add potatoes and sausages to fill out our meal. The service was weird. Our waitress was really sweet and friendly, but seemed clueless. There was nothing on the table - no napkins or salt shakers or utensils. I had to ask for a fork for my salad, then for utensils for the crabs. The ambience was a mixed bag. There was a homeless guy next to our van and signs of a recent campfire. The restaurant was mostly empty, but they didn't offer my family a booth - we had to sit with our kids at a table in the bar. The lighting was good. It was very frustrating not to have metal forks and crab picks. It feels like a high end restaurant, but the utensils are cheep disposable plastic and there was a weird robot was talking too loudly in a weird high pitched girlish voice. The bathroom was really dirty. Overall, I would eat here if someone else were paying because the food was mostly great. For the price, I would want a few improvements.

The stark difference in our second experience was night and day, making this visit truly exceptional. The cozy and romantic aesthetic of the restaurant remains fantastic, and the food and drink menu is still absolutely amazing. This time, however, we had the pleasure of being seated downstairs in Tiffany's section, and she was beyond stellar. Tiffany is the definition of exceptional service. She gave us a complete, helpful rundown of how they structure their tapas menu, offered fantastic recommendations, and was incredibly attentive throughout the evening. We had a great time chatting with her and her professionalism and warmth instantly made our return worthwhile. Her suggestions were perfect--she expertly helped us select a great wine and recommended the black ink pasta, which was a showstopper. Cozy Taberna, when paired with service like Tiffany's, is easily a 5-star restaurant. From now on, we will only return if we can be seated in her section!

Visiting Salem and loonies for clam chowder for my daughter who craves it. Saw some positive…read morereviews so gave them a shot. This is an order at the counter takeout style place but that was what doing anyways so no worries. Chowder: B-. Fair amount of clams but too much thicker that just took away from the soup as a whole. Disappointed Shellfish platter. I'll rate by the item in the platter Calamari: B+. Nice strips and fried well but no seasoning so just bland Panko shrimp: C. overcooked and no seasoning. Basically tasted like poor frozen box shrimp Oysters: C- Literally could fit on face of a quarter they were so small. And overcooked. I couldn't taste the oyster at all. Overall you can do a lot better

My husband and I finally found time to try this place and we weren't disappointed!…read more Walking in the place is very small. There's only 5 tables and they are very close together. That is the only downside to this place. They have some colorful paint on the wall that was nice. When you come in, you order your food and then go sit down and they will bring it to you. We ended up ordering their 8 piece cod because it's cheaper than ordering 2 four pieces. She was nice enough to separate it for us without us asking. The food came out quick and it was not overly greasy. The cod had a nice batter and had a fresh clean taste. It was still moist and flaky. They were great sized also. As for the fries they came out hot and crisp. Some of the best fries I've had in a long time. The coleslaw was lacking flavor and depth but not a big deal. We got 3 sauces: tartar sauce was very good! The garlic aïoli had great flavor and wasn't overpowering. The ginger lime was very mild and wasn't a good choice in my opinion. They all seemed to be homemade and there were so many choices.
