Well, it was national donut day so we had to go somewhere and after looking around on Yelp, this was the place to go (near us!) The location is a small little shop kind of hidden besides the large donut sign out front. You can either park and walk it in, which I'd recommend so you can see all the variety, or go through the drive thru if you know what you want. Once inside it's pretty small but you can see through windows all the donut making equipment. There is a counter where you'll be able to look over all the donuts and pick your poison! They had so many good looking once's and I went after it had been ransacked for national donut day. Prices here were good and the flavor was awesome! All the donuts tasted fresh and the flavors were good. I really enjoyed the strawberry sprinkle. The apple fritters were good but different than what I'm used too as it just had an apple filling. The creme filled chocolate donut was a 3.5 but the regular glazed was a 3. I just like airy donuts like krispy Kreme. Best Donuts is the closet to Krispy Kreme so far. Anyway these donuts just have a dense texture on the inside but not as bad as some and they do glaze the full donut. So eating I didnt think it was bad I just wouldnt pay for them again. However, the chocolate creme filled one was a tad less dense and i may buy that again. And they were out of the compote donuts so I do want to try the apple compote donut. read more

Recommend if you like old fashion style fluffy donuts. We came here right before their 2pm closing on a Saturday so we got whatever they had left. The maple was fresh and yummy. They have a great selection of both yeasted and cake doughnuts, plus assorted doughnut holes, twists, fritters, etc at very reasonable prices. They're the only place in town that does a plain blueberry cake doughnut without any glaze and it's so, so good - sweet enough to be a treat but not so overwhelming if you're not a fan of so much sugar. Their plain glazed yeasted doughnut (always a good indicator of quality) is light and fluffy, not too greasy, big enough to be substantial without being too doughy. They definitely know what they're doing here. Service is excellent - the staff is always friendly and remembers their regulars. Coffee is fine, typical doughnut shop stuff without any frills. These donuts are like biting into a cloud. We got an array of flavors and each one was delicious. Okay pricing and okay cleanliness. HOWEVER, the young man who assisted us today was incredibly rude and sexist. He blantently ignored me and would only speak/look at my husband. If I said a flavor, he would look at my husband and ask him for confirmation. If he had a question, it was directed at my husband and he would ignore me. It was absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful. It was my suggestion that brought us there and my money that paid for it. My husband couldn't believe how rude he was. For this reason I had to knock a star off and question whether I'd return. Today was my last ever trip to McGough's. Man, I used to LOVE this place. Sadly, they've quit trying. Today is FOUR Sundays in a row where they've been sold out of 70% of their flavors at 10:30 in the morning. They're open until 4pm. What TF are they doing in there til 4? Not selling donuts. Unfortunately it seems that once they bought out the store and stopped running the Shipley's playbook it all went to hell. Ol' Panochey knows donuts. I'm virtually a donut whisperer. They speak to me, (usually right before I stuff 'em in my piehole). In fact, these were hollering at me and I was all the way down on I-40 driving west! Let me say they were well worth the detour. So I got an assortment, which constituted a "mixed dozen", see photo. Allow me to pontificate on what I thought of them. First off, the Chocolate cake, (devil's food?), chocolate iced cake donuts: Heavenly. It's chocolate man, how can one go wrong? Five stars. Bear Claw: Not apple compote filled as I would have expected, so a little disappointed, but that did not detract from the product the donut maker intended, and that's what counts; 5 stars. Apple fritter: Is actually apple compote filled, rather than apple bits mixed in the dough before frying. I have to say I'm partial to the compote fill, so yeah, 5 stars. Plain cake: This donut is a shop's bread and butter. It's the original big D. I always get at least one because it is the one type of donut you can compare against other makers' donuts. It's the original "vanilla" donut. Although quite edible, they had an aftertaste of old oil maybe? Maybe slightly burnt oil? Also, I look for a certain toasty-ness to the outside of a plane cake, and that was not apparent in the plain cakes I tried, er..., uh, [ahem!], twice. Four stars. Filled donuts: I have to say that McGaugh's has the widest variety of filled donuts I have ever seen. They are the first I have found to have an apple compote filled one. The apple ones were... sublime. Seriously, truly, bliss. I am blessed that I do not live any closer to this place, as I would be in here on a daily basis and would start to approach maximum density. Don't kid yourself folks, the fat-people-land trains run smack through donutville. You know it, I know it. But use moderation, please! So the box of donuts was less than $8 out the door. You can't beat that. Well, I guess you could, but you'd just end up with a mangled box of delicious treats and hate yourself for having been so violent towards fried bread filled and coated with sugar.
