Home made everything Ever since Shipley closed in Madison I was very sad because I could not find the donut place that I loved. but Mcgaughs took over shipley's and their donuts are amazing everything is made in house even the frosting. when I eat these donuts it doesn't leave a gross oil after taste in my mouth read more

Went to a wedding in shelbyville they had the donuts along with cake unbelievable amazing was leaving town the next day stop purchase 6 more for the road jealous wish we had them in California our GREAT LOSS read more

Love this place so much! Very dangerously it's on my way home from work and open from 4a-4p so I have to stop myself from getting donuts every day. Everything is always fresh and delicious! Well, it was national donut day so we had to go somewhere and after looking around on Yelp, this was the place to go (near us!) The location is a small little shop kind of hidden besides the large donut sign out front. You can either park and walk it in, which I'd recommend so you can see all the variety, or go through the drive thru if you know what you want. Once inside it's pretty small but you can see through windows all the donut making equipment. There is a counter where you'll be able to look over all the donuts and pick your poison! They had so many good looking once's and I went after it had been ransacked for national donut day. Prices here were good and the flavor was awesome! All the donuts tasted fresh and the flavors were good. I really enjoyed the strawberry sprinkle. The apple fritters were good but different than what I'm used too as it just had an apple filling. Overall, I would recommend this place! The donuts are fresh and delicious and you'll be overwhelmed by the donut smell when you go inside! read more

The creme filled chocolate donut was a 3.5 but the regular glazed was a 3. I just like airy donuts like krispy Kreme. Best Donuts is the closet to Krispy Kreme so far. Anyway these donuts just have a dense texture on the inside but not as bad as some and they do glaze the full donut. So eating I didnt think it was bad I just wouldnt pay for them again. However, the chocolate creme filled one was a tad less dense and i may buy that again. And they were out of the compote donuts so I do want to try the apple compote donut. read more

OMG! They have kolaches!!! They are good too. I wish they had the ones wrap in croissant but this will do (hit hit owner/management). The doughnut dough is really good. The cream filled is delish! I will definitely come back for more! read more

Recommend if you like old fashion style fluffy donuts. We came here right before their 2pm closing on a Saturday so we got whatever they had left. The maple was fresh and yummy. The cream filled donuts were too sweet for me though. The lady helping us was super nice and this place was perfect stop before going to the hermitage tour. read more

Honestly the best everyday (ie non-gourmet) doughnuts in the Nashville area. They have a great selection of both yeasted and cake doughnuts, plus assorted doughnut holes, twists, fritters, etc at very reasonable prices. They're the only place in town that does a plain blueberry cake doughnut without any glaze and it's so, so good - sweet enough to be a treat but not so overwhelming if you're not a fan of so much sugar. Their plain glazed yeasted doughnut (always a good indicator of quality) is light and fluffy, not too greasy, big enough to be substantial without being too doughy. They definitely know what they're doing here. Service is excellent - the staff is always friendly and remembers their regulars. Coffee is fine, typical doughnut shop stuff without any frills. I've never gone away disappointed. read more

Now this is how a donut shop should be! No designer donuts for $5 a donut, just fresh, high quality donuts for a resonable price! I go out of my way just to go here. The staff is friendly, the selection is wide and they even have a drive thru. If you're in Nashville and want a really good donut and don't mind a bit of a drive (maybe 10-15 from downtown depending on traffic), go to McGaugh's! read more

My roommates and I spent months searching for Nashville's best donuts, and McGaugh's was a favorite of ours, and the only donut shop we returned to numerous times. These donuts are like biting into a cloud. We got an array of flavors and each one was delicious. Okay pricing and okay cleanliness. HOWEVER, the young man who assisted us today was incredibly rude and sexist. He blantently ignored me and would only speak/look at my husband. If I said a flavor, he would look at my husband and ask him for confirmation. If he had a question, it was directed at my husband and he would ignore me. It was absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful. It was my suggestion that brought us there and my money that paid for it. My husband couldn't believe how rude he was. For this reason I had to knock a star off and question whether I'd return. I understand this may not represent the business however, I highly suggest they speak to their staff and remind them (him) that we do NOT like in the 1800s. read more

Hands down, best donuts in the Nashville area. Customer service is top notch. Wide selection of both yeast and cake donuts plus other delicious breakfast items (kolaches, etc.). And the prices are pretty, pretty, pretty reasonable for a donut. Stop going to other places in the city and spending too much on overpriced donuts. Get your ass to McGaugh's. Today was my last ever trip to McGough's. Man, I used to LOVE this place. Sadly, they've quit trying. Today is FOUR Sundays in a row where they've been sold out of 70% of their flavors at 10:30 in the morning. They're open until 4pm. What TF are they doing in there til 4? Not selling donuts. Unfortunately it seems that once they bought out the store and stopped running the Shipley's playbook it all went to hell. With 8 other donut places within a few miles I'd try: East Park, Five Daughters, Status Dough, Donut Distillery, Shipleys, Connie & Johnny's, even that weird little place in the mall- all before I'd ever consider coming to this place. This is a no frills kinda joint, where you can get gourmet flavors without the high prices that usually accompany them. There's a decent amount of seating, plus bar seating that overlooks the donut making magic, which is fun for the kids. The staff was kind and courteous and the donuts fresh and warm. McGaughs is my go to every time for classic, affordable doughnuts. Crispy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. If you aren't looking for the $5 fancy doughnut, this is your place. The recipe seems to have stayed the same from previously being a Shipley's; except I will say that I don't like their custard filling as much since they switched over. read more

We stopped in the first morning we were staying by Opryland just to get coffee and got a small bag of donut holes. They disappeared within minutes after we realized what great light and tasty donuts they were. We went back this morning and left with a box full. They are so good! read more
