Imagine driving 30-40 minutes with your heart set on fresh glazed donuts. I drove to the Donelson location, which opens at 5:00 AM and doesn't close until 1:00 PM. I arrived at 11:10 AM, nearly two hours before closing, only to find employees already wiping down shelves and starting cleanup. When I asked about glazed donuts--their signature item--I was told, "That's all we have left." There were maybe 30 donuts sitting in the display case, but not a single glazed donut. Let me get this straight: you're known for glazed donuts, you're still almost two hours from closing, and you're completely out of the product people drive there to buy? Meanwhile, employees were cleaning, taking out trash, and acting like the store was about to close. If you're going to stay open until 1:00 PM, customers should reasonably expect to find your most popular item available. Great variety, nice presentation, good looking box, son brought over a dozen donuts knowing we are from California and having a variety of great donut shops to choose from, but here in Spring Hill sadly to say there are not many great donut shops, haven't found one yet. I don't know why the ratings are so skewed and how this particular Shipley's gets away with it. But patrons must not be tasting what this donut afficionado is. Of course. I wouldn't say the average Shipley's customer is very discerning. So let's face it, this is nothing more than a national chain of 382 stores that peddles mediocre pastries to turn a profit while failing to regulate local quality. It's essentially the McDonald's of donuts. Any time I stop by at midday, they haven't made enough donuts to last that long and haven't seemed to make additional batches either. Only the dregs remain on the shelves with the most popular options long gone. And even when I come by in the morning, the donuts taste surprisingly stale for so early in the day. I have to wonder how that's possible and if they were made very early or just recycled from the previous day. It's a poorly run store that's just another outlet for a giant, overrated franchise. Pick any local mom-and-pop donut shop and you'll find a much better product. I'm done giving Shipley's chances to impress me and tired of stale donuts and empty shelves. So while my daily drive takes me right past their store, I'm finally abandoning convenience and driving across town for the superior donut choices in East Nasty, Wilco, even nearby Madison, and beyond. read more

Ordered donuts online and upon arrival 4 of the 6 donuts I ordered were not available. The store said at 10 am on a random week day that they had not one filled donut or not one cake donut. It wasn't crowded, there wasn't a line, and there was no heavy foot traffic for over an hour. It's frustrating because their online ordering process allows you to create and place orders that cannot be fulfilled by the store (in my case, 3 filled Do-Nuts and one cake donut) of the 6 donuts I ordered (4/6 weren't available). Placed an order online, drove over, waited, came in and all that was available (at what doesn't seem like peak hours) were frosted donuts only of mainly strawberry flavoring. For the hassle, there was no mention of the inconvenience and no remedy to fix outside of asking if I wanted all frosted of the same flavor. I was brushed along and hurried out when only two other customers were in the store. Perhaps my experience wasn't indicative of how they usually are but I cannot provide more than 1 star based on that experience. read more

The restaurant stays busy it's operated by a lovely Asian family love to see the diversity in the business community. The prices are cheaper online if you order in store expect to pay a $5 idiot tax. Assorted dozen online 12.99 in store 20.99. I checked the website before pulling up was expecting to pay 12.99 for a dozen. It's not that big of a deal but that sort of stuff I find annoying. I literally ordered from the website from inside the store. These donuts are easily the best donuts in Nashville. I would rate the donuts at about a 6 on a scale of 1-10... I preface this review with the fact that I am indeed a donut snob. I went to Shipley on a Saturday morning and got 4 donuts, a cinnamon roll, and an apple fritter. The staff were very nice and I asked for their recommendations to help me choose which donuts I should purchase. They told me that the maple was a must have and blueberry is their top selling. I also got a raspberry filled and a sugared donut. The staff is very nice and threw in a complimentary bag of mini donuts. I tra la laed on my way and was very excited to try my haul but disappointed in pretty much everything with the exception of the apple fritter which was very delicious. The best way I can describe these donuts is bad Krispy Kreme. The maple was one of the worst tasting things I have ever eaten. The blueberry was an odd gummy like texture. The sugar was eh and the raspberry was strangely crispy on the outside. The cinnamon roll was more like what we could call a coffee roll in NY but not very heavy on the cinnamon. And those complimentary donut holes...they tasted like the grease they were cooked in. Sorely disappointed with these overall but happy they were relatively inexpensive. Was recommended Shipleys as a quick stop to get our donut fill! We got an assortment of donuts to try and we also tried the sausage and cheese kolache. The selection at 11am consists of glazed donuts and a handful of frosted donuts (chocolate, vanilla, maple). While the donut itself was really good (10/10!), we were disappointed by the maple frosting tasting chemically and the lack of variety they had when they show so many fun and interesting donuts online... the service was fast though! This place has been a staple for the past almost 20 years. They have fresh delicious donuts and they offer Kolaches. I have been here recently with my son and he loves it too. Both times we have come the service has been fast and friendly but they do get busy. The place it's not that big but it does offer free wi-fui and a few booth for you to enjoy a coffee and some breakfast. They also offer coffee and cooler drinks like juice, milk, cokes, etc. I would have to say, they do not have their prices right on their screen so make sure you add about $2-4 extra to your calculations if you are doing so by their menu prices. Parking is very uncomfortable to maneuver and it's shared with a few other shops. Depending on the time it can also be difficult to get out of it with traffic. Such a huge fan of this TX based donut spot. I went in for a kolache, donut, and coffee. Under $7. Such a good deal. And a great little breakfast. There are only 2 locations in Nashville. So worth the drive. Easy & cheap breakfast. This location has a small parking lot out front. And a few large booths too. I was able to do a little remote working while I was here. We get these at work from time to time, and I was skeptical at first. But I'm a believer now. Having said that, not all of their donuts are home-runs. This is the first time we tried Shipley's. According to B's cousins, this is a local favorite. There is limited parking in front of this donut shop, with some seating inside. As a Texan, it's great knowing that Nashville has a Shipley. I can say they still make the best glazed donut around. Not to mention they carry kola he's which a lot of people don't know or confuse with pigs in a blanket. Also what I like is they also have breakfast sandwiches as well. They recently also renovated and it makes the front counter feel a lot bigger...because it is now. Ha. Friendly staff, make sure if you're going to charge on card that you spend more than $5 and enjoy an old school donut shop with great quality without having to oversell like gourmet donut shops do. The selection was kind of sparse since it was already around 10:30 am when we got there (it makes sense that they want to make too much on a holiday). It's pretty quiet and cozy inside - they have these throwback diner-y bench style seating! Not a lot of space inside though, so most people do take their orders to go.
