DO NOT CALL McDowell's chimney repair as they will rip you off and waste your time. My husband and I purchased a new home in September 2019 and had a home inspection but not a separate chimney inspection. The previous owners had stated in a final walk through that McDowell's had recently replaced the crown on the chimney. Our realtor also had recommended McDowell's and stated Wayne was a good Christian man. He may be, but he sold the business to Jason, who clearly is not. I called McDowell's to clean the chimney and provide a full inspection. I spoke to a woman on the phone and had stated we wanted the cleaned and inspected. I was provided an appointment the following November 2019, between 10 am and 2 pm. That is even worse than the cable company that can at least give you an AM or PM an appointment. Unfortunately, the week before the appointment my father-in law passed away. I wanted to post-pone the appointment, but rather than have to wait another 6 weeks to reschedule, I decided to cut my bereavement time a day short, as we had to travel. On appointment day, I was expecting to meet Wayne, but evidently, he retired and sold the business to Jason. I also expected to have the chimney cleaned, as that is what I hired this company to do. Jason did not do that. I expected and interior and exterior inspection of the chimney and didn't get that either. The only thing Jason bothered to do was take a look at the outside of the chimney, take my money, and waste my time. Jason then proceeded to confirm he had replaced the crown on the chimney and that he had inspected the outside a few months previously and provided a repair quote the previous home owner that included tearing the chimney down 2/3rds of the way and rebuilding it. Stated he had the previous home owner sign a waiver of no warranty as the chimney was in such disrepair that it would probably crack again. So, I paid $99 to lose an entire day of work and get a report to repair the outside of the chimney for $8,000 that was already provided to someone else 3 a few months prior. I was then asked to take an additional day off for the interior cleaning (and fee for that) then another fee for the interior chimney inspection. I guess this guy is used to dealing with rich people and people that work for home or have a non-working spouse. IF you fall that into that category, good for you. For the rest of use that do not have unlimited PTO and unlimited money, skip these fools and hire A Step In Time Chimney Sweep at 1800-FIREMAN https://chimneysweep.com/ as they are a great company that wont waste your time, does great work at a reasonable price. I'd give them a 0 if I could. I had them come out on a Monday morning to give me an estimate on my chimney. Tuesday evening I had a few questions so I called and left a voicemail. By Friday morning I had not recieved an estimate nor did I receive a call back about my question. I called in to the office and the office manager advised that they had never planned on giving me an estimate. Well that's awesome. Why was I never contacted? These guys overhauled my very tall brick chimneys, removing the fireplace tiles and installing stainless steel liners. It was a huge, very difficult job, but these guys are pros -- friendly, polite, expert, precise, hardworking. They give you the attention of a small business -- the owner came by to personally see how the job was proceeding -- but the capability of a large business. They did beautiful finishing work on the smoke chamber and chimney crown, even though it was not part of our agreement. Every part of the job was meticulous and of the highest quality.
