Understaffed. Over 10 minutes in the drive through, because one person is taking orders, taking payment and handing orders out the window. 8:46-8:59am. Matters not helped when he took extra orders from the outside lane. They no longer have cinnamon melts. No, the donut sticks are not as good, nor an adequate substitute. Guess I'll go to Local Lion or Krispy Kreme. .... read more

Review of Boone NC McDonald's since their franchise owner, nor corporate can't even bother to respond to my complaint (survey on receipt) and review on Boone McDonald's FB page.....Evening of 9/4/2026 I ordered w/ the app & did Drive thru-a happy meal (burger only, no toppings, no bun) & a order of fries & drink. The drive through stopped taking orders (without given reason or apology) & we were all just sitting there for a little over 13 mins to order. Not a single car moved foward. I was stuck waiting having already prepaid in the app. When I finally got to give my code at the drive thru I was told to pull forward and wait still had to wait another 17 minutes- a total of 30 minutes to get my simple order! I was assured it was all there & drove off only to find that my son's plain hamburger (no bun, no condiments) was just a BUN-No burger. Went back and the employee argued with me that's what I ordered when it plainly states on the receipt on the bag, the receipt they handed me in the drive thru and on the app - plain burger no bun. Further, she (or NONE of the team (2 different ladies working the 2 drive thru windows) never once apologized for my wait. I told them I waited 30 minutes and that I had to drive 2 hours and had a hungry little boy in the car and still NO apology. Instead, the supposed manager on duty - slightly heavy set woman with hair in a bun (and I think she was wearing glasses), who brought my food out said they only had 1 person working in the kitchen (which wasn't true-there were 2 different ladies working each of the 2 windows, 2 women behind the counter (including the manager who was rude to me) & at least 2 in the kitchen that I could clearly see the top of their heads) & if they were behind because of short staffed & making people wait 30 mins for fast food without apology, she shouldn't have been taking a smoke break outside the front door after handing me my food-I have pictures of her smoking. I told her that if they were short staffed and couldn't fulfill the orders, they should have notified the customers of why there was a ridiculous wait time instead of keeping them boxed in in the drivethru. I could have easily gotten a refund and drove onto the McDonalds in Banner Elk and gotten my food in that time frame. Her response was that it was against corporate policy to tell guests there was a wait time or how long the wait time would be. Based on the survey I just took off my receipt, that's also not true because the survey asks specifically if they told you how long the wait would be. It's one thing to be short staffed (which I am not even sure they were) and another to handle it so poorly and with ZERO transparency and ZERO apology to the customers. Instead this lady was spinning bald lies, blaming me, the customer and too worried about getting on her smoke break and very rude. In a town full of students looking for jobs - do better! read more

Mickey D's. Just off of AppState's campus. What else can you say about Mcdonald's near a state university? I ate at the o.g. location all through my childhood. Portions are smaller, and the prices are what they are. It's better to bring it back to my childhood home and eat it off of my Ronny McD's plate from my Hardin Park Elementary days. read more

Me and my boyfriend ordered a 40 piece and 2 ice coffees. We got there at 12:08, ordered at 12:15, and didn't get our food until after 1:20, and ONLY because I when up to the counter and complained. Thank to the girl her I talked to at the counter who apologized and got our food made, and read to take home in less then 10 minutes. Every time I go here it takes way too long for food to come out even when no one is there and it almost always comes out wrong or cold, sometimes both. read more

We had ordered 2 double cheeseburgers, small fries, frozen coke, a unsweet tea, and a iced mocha cafe. What we received was 2 cheeseburgers, small fries, frozen coke, a sweet tea, and an iced caramel mocha cafe. That can happen and I understand that. What upset me, was that they were complaining about our order and us - while the window was open. We could hear them. I'm not one to keep my mouth shut, but i did. Only because I had been traveling all day and it was after midnight. We both have worked in jobs that you had to have a great customer service attitude. They did not have that at all. They were quite rude. I don't not tolerate that. I would not recommend going there, especially late at night. We didn't go into the dining area, at that time, but I could feel the tension in the air. Nobody there that we encounter had a winning personality. I will talk to the manager soon. read more

McDonald's... count your fucking days. All this hype for the Minecraft happy meal. And you asshats give me a fucking cinder block cube toy. Way to rain on my parade. Was expecting a creeper or something fire mode. But nah. Ruined my whole day / mood by giving me the worst toy of all time. And not to mention, the 4 fries I was given. Absolutely ridiculous! read more

One of the worst McDonald's I've ever been to. Service is terrible, employees are rude, and your order is most likely going to be wrong with cold food. Unfortunate that it's the only one in Boone. Do not recommend. read more

Food was good but they sell you a million up charges and don't tell you it's extra. Like when you get a tea they even charge extra for a lemon. Really. It's ok to charge for stuff but it feels like you are negotiating with one of the scummy used car salespersons that adds on extra stuff to the final bill. Good thing they are only doing it for less than $1 each time so it's not a financial problem but it makes me not want to come back and makes me feel cheated. Not a great feeling. read more

DONT EAT HERE!!! UNSANITARY CONDITIONS DURING PANDEMIC!!!!! Today I went thru the drive-thru and ordered my meal. We hadn't pulled up to the speaker fully yet and this rude lady, "CAN I HELP YOU" once a second passed and I was at the speaker "HELLO? CAN I HELP YOU" like first off don't be rude. that was how I knew this was gonna be a crappy experience. pay, pull up to grab my food the lady did not speak a single word, handed us our food but they forgot my fries, so i asked "hey sorry, y'all forgot my fries" I understand i've worked food service so I was trying to be polite, but these employees make me wish I wasn't. She scoffed, "yOu FoRgOt ThE fRiEs" the manager then hands her a bag with the fries inside and BARE HANDEDLY sprinkled fries into the bag and put his BARE HANDS back on his clip board, and they handed it to me, but once i saw that i said, can i have a different order, i just saw him touch that with his hands and he's not wearing gloves. "i NeEd AnOtHeR bAG, sHe DoEsNt WaNt iT CaUsE yOu ToUcHeD tHeM" he then snatches that bag and under a second throws another bag she grabbed it hands it back again, which honestly looked like the same bag, with the same wrinkles in the same places, hands it back with the FATTEST attitude. And turns away with out saying anything. I get that you hate your job if you act like that but not following food safety guidelines kills people. And that's just what they teach you or at least should have been what they taught you. During a pandemic means you shouldn't take routes around, and short cuts to give people food that's COMPLETELY unsanitary and can really cause people to get ill. The service here is inexcusable, unexceptional and down right disgusting. if you want to eat here eat at your own risk, and because of that interaction today, I have already called corporate. read more

Never had an issue with the food but I do have an issue with the way this place is run. I work nights and occasionally hit up McDonald's for a quick lunch. Out of the 5 or so times I've come here, 4 times they are "cash only" because their computers are down. It's a serious pain in the butt and quite unprofessional for a McDonald's. I guess that's why the line at CookOut is always 5 times the size. Also, my average wait time for the drive through is at least 12-15 minutes. Ugh Today's service took 30+ minutes which gave me plenty of time to write this review while I waited. read more

Went through the drive thru and asked for hot mustard with our order realized we didn't get the sauce as we pulled out from the window and saw a worker delivering the curb side pick up so we pulled up next to her and asked politely for a hot mustard and she immediately gave us attitude saying it's too cold outside and that we can come in and get it ourselves she's not coming back outside for a sauce. This is totally disrespectful she is being paid to work this job it is not hard to run inside and grab a sauce that was missing from my bag that I asked for at the window and never got. We then went inside and asked to speak to the manager to report her attitude and the manager was 10x worse telling us to try and work her job and see how we feel about being asked for a sauce. this is all disrespectful and i want to report both the manager and this worker. both females didnt get any names but it is this exact location. insane behavior from paid workers. read more

Your usual university staple. McDs. Wouldn't have had a complaint here, but I have to say that we were passing through both days and happened to eat and use the restrooms in consecutive days. Food? Usual McDs. If you like the stuff, it's great, but it's the same everywhere. Restroom? I can only say for the men's side, but the "push" in part of the door was sticky. Both days. It's like whatever they wipe the door down with leaves some sort of sticky residue. It doesn't help that there's no paper towels and you have to touch the door handle to come out. Eww. If you do come to this McDs, bring hand sanitizer. You'll definitely not want to eat with your hands before you disinfect since who knows what's on that sticky door. Eww again. read more

Had our Grandsons with us and this is where they wanted to go. Understood, as they are 11 and 6 years old. We placed our order at the online 'order here' kiosk. We waited nearly 15 minutes for our order and when asked the only employee working the front stated he was the only one working and that is why the wait. There were at least 8 other family units in the building who were frustrated as much as we were. No telling how many cars were in line for the drive thru as the line wrapped around the building. Granted it was 5:30ish but unacceptable especially since our order totaled $26.31! read more

This McDonald's has the friendliest staff of all. They are often understaffed, especially early in the morning, but they hustle, and they greet you with a smile and cheerful words. Of course, the fries are still great. read more

AW chris the night manager is the best!!! such great customer service. HE NEEDS A RAISE

My visit went great. I got right in, placed my order, and it came out in a jiff, with good, friendly service to boot. Likewise, the dining room was clean and comfortable (and toasty-warm). And, one other thing I really enjoyed: the camaraderie of the staff, as evidenced by their steady, goodhearted laughter echoing regularly through the kitchen (which was doubly impressive, considering that they were shorthanded and it was Black Friday with a big crowd). There was lots of seating, too, including some big comfy leather loungers around a standalone, low-sitting table -- a nice, homey touch. In the end, I hung around for over an hour, just reading and sipping coffee and having a grand old time. Superb :-) Big thanks to all the folks at this restaurant, for providing me such a nice, safe place to relax. Keep up the good job. read more

This is an epic slow drive-through or service inside at night. Each time they claim to be "shorthanded," but it's clearly the norm. They do not want you about the 20-30 minute (not kidding!) wait times for the orders. They routinely leave things out of the order at the drive through. Best part is the owner does not seem to care. We should really atop giving this owner our money. read more

I ordered a $6 quarter pounder and they gave me a McChicken... this is repeatedly the worst McDonald's I've been to

All I ordered was two breakfast sandwiches. Having already paid, I had to show them my receipt at the second window for them to know what I ordered. They asked me to drive ahead and wait for them to come out.. with my TWO sandwiches... and they STILL messed up one of them. When I got out of my car, went inside, and leaned over the counter waiting to be helped, it took 4 minutes before anyone helped me, even though there was no one ordering food or even waiting in line. One of the cashiers was even casually talking to a customer who was eating during the entire time I was waiting. The grumpy woman who finally helped me was scatterbrained and was ready for me to be gone the moment she started "helping" me. I had to explain three times which sandwich was wrong and what I had ordered, and even then I still had to say "I want what is on my receipt" and handed it to them because words weren't getting through. She finally helped me by throwing away the perfectly good sandwich and giving me the correct one. Rather than asking if I wanted to keep the incorrect one, she literally threw it right into the trash... This is my second time coming to this McDonald's in 4 years. Now I remember why. Never again. read more

Would give this place ZERO if I could. The lady at the drive thru window was the worst person I've ever dealt with. She should never work another day in the service industry! Terrible. Went through drive thru at 1 and waited about 10-15 and then left. Four cars in total and no one was moving. They had two cars waiting in the drive thru sections at the front waiting for their food. Service is fine during the day but at night it is terrible. Last time they made us drive around the store to re-start their timer for the drive thru and we were literally the only people there! Asked about Apple Pay and said they had no idea how to do it. We visited this McDonald's location while traveling on 5-07-18 @ 9:40 pm, I do not remember the lady's name that took my order but I was hoping giving the date and time would allow management to figure out who it was - (on the receipt it states ks# 2 order: 35 and the order was placed inside the restaurant. The lady that took my order was very outgoing and friendly which was very welcome after 10 hours in a car. She was very helpful by letting us know which way our order would be cheaper and took the time to look through the available NatGeo happy meal toys to find one that my grandson needed to help complete his collection. The food was ready fast, was hot and the order was done correctly I could not have asked for anything more and it was very much appreciated.
