They were prompt in coming in and providing an estimate, helped match us with an electrician to get power to the unit, provided us consultation to help ensure we got a unit that would suit our needs today and tomorrow without overpaying, and then did another beautiful install. For both heating and cooling they are prompt, courteous, and I've never seen cleaner work. The service person came out to correct the humidifier attached to our furnace. The humidifier was not working. While he was polite, cordial and quick he left telling us the problem was fixed. However, after a day or two we did not notice any improvement and called the company to have them return to further investigate what the problem was. They would not back up their work with a return visit without charging another $90 service fee. I do not know how the service person determined that the problem was fixed in that water was still not flowing through the system and he did not test the humidifier before he left. You can read more lies by this company in their response to my review. Lie #3 - Called several times and "I have offered to pull the parts we installed out and refund her money". Nope, they called once and left a Voicemail, asking me to CHANGE MY REVIEW on Yelp. That was all they said, nothing about anything further, no pulling parts and refunding our money. Lie #4 - "we found and replaced the bad capacitor". We actually called and told them we needed the capacitor changed out and that it had failed. They didn't troubleshoot or look for anything. Lie #5 - "Jennifer did not want to replace the fan motor at that time". These people did not ever even speak to ME on this visit, at all. They spoke to my boyfriend, who Joe told the fan motor would last another "1-2 YEARS", not fail the very next day after they put their hands on the a/c unit. Lie #6 - "He found the unit working fine, but at her insistence spent 2 hours addressing her airflow complaints." This was Sul, he closed the dampers to the upstairs floor on this 2nd visit, opened the basement dampers wide up, and this is what I said in my review. Lie #7 - "We gave Jennifer a choice between a universal motor and an OEM motor. She chose the less expensive universal motor that we stock on our trucks." This is a complete, unequivocal lie. This company gave us no choice whatsoever in any parts, they just came and installed a "universal motor". I did not even know that there was a difference until I questioned them on the zip ties sticking out and their response, in writing, was because they had installed a universal motor and not an OEM motor. They said the following via email: "We installed a universal condensing fan motor on your condensing unit...The only other alternative would have been to install an OEM condensing fan motor which was made specifically for your unit." We did not CHOOSE anything, they chose it and installed it, this was their excuse when I emailed them. They also absolutely did not "explained this to Jennifer as well". They answered an email and told me this, AFTER it was installed and wires were hanging out of the grille. "Our customers are our top priority." This is clearly not the case. Look at any negative reviews that this company has received and how they blame the customer for their lack of experience, short-sightedness, and inept service. This company feels comfortable actually lying via public, social media about their customers and the service that they provide. I have all of this in writing from them. I stand by everything that I stated in my first review and everything that I corrected about their made up responses here. Incredible! We were left to fend for ourselves in a 90 degree house for 10 days before we had to get window units to survive the summer. Our system is a 42k Mitsubishi mini split system that had many issues . There was a leak in the system somewhere that had drained refrigerant. The owner Chris showed up personally to assess. Shows that he really cares about his companies success. They found the leak and got the replacement unit on order. 2 of the other units had a drainage issue that is now fixed . The house feels great again and time to take the back up window units out cause I trust their work !! Thanks again !!! read more

Very happy with service. I called because 2nd floor Was way hotter than first floor and return air ducts didn't seem to be doing anything. They were able to fit me in pretty quickly after my call, and we had to schedule another follow up appointment and they got me in the next day. And, they let you know when they are on the way. Chris was very professional and knowledgeable, and found/fixed problems in AC ducts. He also made some additional recommendations to have ducts cleaned/examined in case there are blockages (another company does this). $260 total. Will call them for future service. read more

I contacted McCarver Mechanical to repair my furnaces following a 26" sewer backup in our basement. The came in 2 days to access the problem. The technician was not properly trained to troubleshoot furnace problems. He made numerous calls to someone for help. He determined the circuit boards in each furnace were bad and ordered them. A couple of days later he returned with the boards and then determined both blower motors were bad as well as the wiring harnesses for each. A couple of days later he returned with the motors and repaired both furnaces. I felt as though he was a parts changer not a trouble shooter. He should have been able to test the motors in his first visit when he determined the circuit boards were bad. Five days later and a couple thousand dollars later they wore working again. UPDATE 12/22/2020: McCarver has tried to fix things after our review and refunded us the amount charged for the thermostat. The company tried to understand our issues and clearly took our complaints seriously. Our biggest concern was the communication in regards of the work that will be done and the related costs. We also understood that the service call fee would include the diagnosis of the issue and only the necessary repair would be charged extra. The company should make it clear when making the appointments that the service call fee is a charge to get someone out to your house and the diagnosis is part of the repair costs charged. The work itself was performed professionally and clean. The personnel was wearing shoe covers and face masks and was polite throughout the service. read more

Although this is my third review of McCarver Mechanical, my star rating hasn't changed. I thought I'd write an update for those of you who were curious how my HVAC story ends. I know, this story is very riveting. Ian did a fantastic job on the new furnace installation back in November. Everything is running wonderfully. Better yet, my home was very warm throughout the winter. I also noticed a decrease in my monthly gas bill. Now that Spring has sprung, it was time for some new A/C. My previous condenser (outside unit) was running well, but when the furnace was replaced, Ian let me know that a new coil would suit me better in order to take advantage of the efficiency of the new furnace. With the new coil came new responsibility. Also a new condenser. Chris and Adam installed both the water heater and A/C. The installation for both of them (on separate occasions) were very fast. They also moved my condenser unit to the side of the house. When they were done working, everything was tidied up. They were very professional. Chris also set up and tested my wifi thermostat for the A/C unit. He even adjusted the humidity setting on the thermostat so my family and I would be more comfortable. I'm very pleased that I can set my temperature ranges and I don't have to physically switch between heat and A/C any more. I decided on McCarver to begin with because of their professionalism as well as their desire to build and maintain a strong customer base. I stuck with them for both the new condenser unit as well as a new water heater. I know that if I ever have any issues I can call McCarver and they will do everything in their power to help out. Would highly recommend them. We had an AC issue and not only got a technician out on a Saturday, but got the owner Chris. He diagnosed our issue quickly and explained in detail all of our options. Didn't try to upsell anything. We then had them replace our AC and to our surprise, with a cancellation they got to it within 4 days. The instal team was a different set of employees, but the lead had a lot of experience and the team was very professional. Kept us abreast on everything and were extremely nice to talk to. My air conditioning motor stoped working while we're experiencing a heat wave. I had trouble finding someone to come out sooner then 1 to 2 weeks and was worried about being taken advantage of. Called McCarver Mechanical heating and cooling and the lady said she would check to see when someone could come out. She returned my call after 10 minutes saying someone could come out later today! Their technician arrived during the estimated time, fixed the issue within a reasonable time and charged a fair price. I'm very happy with the complete service. I had recently hired a large heating and cooling company to perform their annual maintenance check on my furnace. Their technician told me my furnaced should be replaced due to its age, and it could stop working at any time. He also told me he detected levels of carbon monoxide. They sent a sales person and quoted a new furnace. I was suspicious so I got other estimates. This is where McCarver comes in. Chris looked over the furnace and questioned the findings of the other company. I really appreciated how Chris spent more time and was more knowledgable than the other company. Chris recommended another inspection and I'm glad I went this route. After the inspection, Chris told me my furnace was in great shape and clean. He measured for carbon monoxide which was undetectable. In addition, he discovered the gas flow was too low - something the other company should have noticed. Chris is very honest and professional. He's gained my trust and I will use McCarver Heating and Cooling going forward. read more

Craftsmanship lasted for only 2 years. My story begins 2 years ago when A/C unit for my upstairs 3 bedroom bungalow started blowing hot air. I choose McCarver Mechanical Heating and Cooling to help troubleshoot the issue. I believe the actual owner came out and explained that he MUST find the leak in order to repair my A/C unit. I proceeded with the repair and paid $250+, for the leak fix and Freon charge. Fast forward 2 years later, and my upstairs AC stopped blowing cold air again. I figured, "Okay, that's weird, I wonder if the Freon depletes after 2 years?". I called McCarver Mechanical, and scheduled an appointment. The gentleman stated that there is a leak in my AC unit; I can either fix the leak and get the Freon filled again, or just get the Freon filled for $250-300. I didn't have enough money at the time to get it fully repaired. I also was going to be charged $95 for the service call. So I thought I would just get the Freon filled, wait another 2 years for it to deplete from the leak and do it over again. So I DECLINED on paying the expensive repair and went the cheap route. That was unfortunately my mistake. I wish I had known that JUST filling up my freon wouldn't have resolved anything. I was kind of bummed by my mistake and wish I had a better understanding of Heating & Cooling. I call for my 3rd time and talked to the nice receptionist and asked if the owner can work with me on pricing. I explained my financial situation and how this would be my 3rd service call because I didn't know that the freon will just leak out the very next day. I thought maybe they would waive the $95 service call or let me split my payments at least. Considering that I used McCarver before, I thought maybe they would cut me a break. Unfortunately, the only "break" I got was to open up a credit card with their company and charge it on there. I came home from vacation to my furnace not working and the temperature of the house at 45 degrees. I called McCarver after a quick Yelp search, and they came out within 3 hours. The tech quickly found the issue, showed me exactly what had happened, and was back out the door within 10 minutes to go buy the part I needed. Within an hour, the part was replaced and I was all set. Unfortunately, the heat stopped working again after running for about a half hour even though the set temp wasn't reached yet. I gave it another half hour to turn on, and when it didn't I called McCarver back to see if the tech could come back to look at it. They gave me a two hour time frame that same day, and the tech was back at my house within the first half hour. It did kick back on, but he still checked it out to make sure that there weren't any other issues. I was impressed that I was showed exactly what my issue was, I wasn't sold into services I didn't want or need, and I was even given the option to keep the broken part. I also thought it was reasonably priced and about what I expected to pay for same day service. read more

This place is OFF THE CHARTS amazing. I worked with Sul over a period of about 3 weeks. Our Air Conditioner was failing intermittently and he worked so diligently to determine what was wrong with our air conditioner without randomly changing out parts. First, in order to keep track of the timing of the issues he gave me his personal cell phone number and asked me to text him whenever it failed. Second, he brought over some used parts to try in order to save me money. Third, he went back to the office to brainstorm with the entire team to get some additional opinions. He even offered to come back over on his own time to make sure he had double checked everything. Unbelievable. In the end we ended up having to replace our compressor and they offered a fair price to replace it, so we went with them to replace it. I had a less than satisfactory experience with this company. I had the "furnace tune up" performed on my furnace as a preventive measure. I've owned my home for 2+ years and have had no issue with my furnace during that time. The technician arrived on time and was friendly. He put on paper boots over his shoes to ensure no dirt came into my home. This genuinely impressed me. However, while I was initially impressed with the service, my experience soon went down hill. Immediately after the technician left, I decided to try my furnace, and it did not kick on. Error #1: Technican did not check furnace operation before he left. I called the company and they promptly sent the technican back. He informed me the inducer motor had failed; this was why the furnace was inoperative. While I hadn't had a single problem with the furnace in the past, I'll chalk this up to a fluke and won't hold the motor failure against them. It's entirely probable that it could have failed; it was not a new unit. It does seem strange, however, that it would fail immediately after they left. In any event, in installing the new inducer motor, the technican made Error #2: Not vacuuming out the chimney flue in furnace prior to installing the new inducer motor. In essence, the technician left 25 yrs of chimney dust in the flue for the motor to whip around and cause premature failure when seconds of vacuuming would have solved this. I even offered him my vacuum, but he did not take me up on my offer. This leads me to Error #3: Not delivering the services I was promised. The entire reason for my call was to get the blower cage vacuumed out. The Office Manager informed me this was part of the tune up service. Needless to say, it was not vacuumed out. When I called the company again, the Office Manager corrected herself and stated she was in error. The tune up did not include cleaning the blower cage. Taken separately, each error can be overlooked. However, when combined, I'm afraid my experience was well less than satisfactory, and suggest the company has not properly trained its technicians, nor its office manager in what is likely one of the most frequent services they perform: a furnace tune up. There's no excuse for her to be uninformed about such a service. The sad part is that I've worked on furnaces before (mine is 25 yrs old/80% efficiency/very simple to work on), and I could have done each item myself. Instead, I received subpar service. I wish this company the best, but I will not be calling them in the future, even for warranty work. read more

UPDATE: MCCARVER CONTACTED ME AND WANTED TO MAKE IT RIGHT. SEE BELOW... I saw the good reviews here and decided it was a no brainier. I called McCarver for a furnace inspection and tune up. Our furnace is about 15 years old so I didn't expect it to be perfect. We found some issues, but overall a clean bill of health. Nice technician, arrived on time. Things are good. A couple hours later and we were without heat. We figured that it was from one of the items that was discovered in the inspection. So I called them back and the scheduled somebody to come back out the same day. Things are still good. When he came back, we found a hose disconnected. It must have been knocked loose during the inspection. When he attempted to put it back together it didn't connect because it was dry rotted. No big deal, 12" of hose should be something that you can find in your truck, right? He found one all right and charged me $40 for a section of hose that he cut off a long hose. He kept the rest of the hose and took it with him. I don't mind paying for somebody to come back to my house. After all, businesses are there to make money. However I don't agree with being charged $40 for a piece of hose that probably cost $0.50. It's not fair to charge the customer for something that you're most likely going to sell to another customer on a later day. ********************************* UPDATE: I was contacted the very next morning by McCarver Mechanical Heating and Cooling. After reading my review, they told me it was a fair review and wanted to make things right. I was refunded most of the cost of the hose and explained as to why it's not $0.50 as I wrote above. I agree that the price that they do charge is now fair so I revised my review rating. Kudos to McCarver for excellent service. I will definitely go back to this company in the future. read more

Had my check-up on the old, old furnace this past week. McCarver came out promptly, the tech was helpful and efficient. My carbon and efficiency of the furnace both improved. In addition, Consumers Energy is offering cash back so I have a check coming to me. Over the past 6 months, I have had several interactions with McCarver Mechanical, and all them have been great! We moved into a new house (thankfully with a home warranty) and our HVAC started to have issues. First our humidifier broke down (part replaced to get it function), then we had a tune-up (good gut check on my 23 year old furnace), then an estimate visit for new furnace, then an emergency call for a foul odor coming from my condensate pump, and finally an emergency furnace/ac install. The estimate: straightforward, honest, great product, and great price (I did my shopping apples to apples). The response: Very timely! The odor situation ended up being a crack in my heat exchanger and CO leaking into my house. I am so thankful that we caught it when we did. My CO detectors throughout the house had not yet gone off. Emergency furnace install started the same day and finished by the next morning. They were able to get my heat up an running the same day my furnace went out. The product: Lennox is one of the main product lines they use, and I had also done my research there. I definitely did not want to skimp on my HVAC, and I am very happy with my two-stage Lennox furnace. Looking forward to running the AC this spring.. The work: Quick yet quality. Clean. They replaced my PVC venting completely (another bid wasn't going to touch it) and even cause a code situation with my electrical. I did catch a tear in the expansion joint ductwork above the furnace after installation, and they replaced it same day no questions asked. Having not gone through this process, I still was not 100% sure that the work was high quality (even though I thought so). When our city inspector came to check it out, he said it was some of the best work he has seen (he looks at 15 furnace installs a day). That assurance spoke volumes. Overall, great customer services and a very friendly team. The worked directly with the owner through most of the visits, and he was very honest and accommodating. It was a Saturday afternoon and one of my rental units suddenly had no heat. I called 5 or 6 companies before I connected with McGarver Mechanical Heating and Cooling. Christine the receptionist was able to contact Adam the technician who was on his way home. Adam turned around and came and inspected rhe furnace. He discovered that one of the heating tubes was cracked as it was an old furnace ( I knew It was at its end of service and the time had come) . Adam was able to offer me a reasonable price on a new Bryant furnace ample for the square footage. He was professional and showed understandong for my concerns to get a new furnace that could replace the one I had and one that would last. McCarver heating and cooling were GREAT! I live in Boulder, Colorado and LA. My sister lives in Clinton Twp. and has been having trouble with their furnace. She's not in the position to pay for it so I did. Being out of State I called a few other places and they didn't accept credit cards? Really? I'm not sure how you can run a business without accepting CC's. When I first called I spoke with a lady named Page. She was courteous, professional and very nice on the phone. She said the soonest they could get out there would be Wednesday ( I called Monday) About an hour later she called and said the owner could go out within the hour! He went out there and check it out. He said it was a "burner " issue and needed a little maintenance. They charged me $88.00 for going out plus parts which was about. $40.00. Total cost was $128.00. I thought it was very reasonable and they went out right away which was great! All in all they were great and I would yes them again in a minute! read more

They were the first company (out of about 15) to be able to come out to our home and sounded genuinely concerned about getting us service quickly in hot weather. The Technician called ahead, was professional and polite. He took his time getting the A/C unit operational and then checked everything else to assure a future visit wouldn't be necessary (fingers crossed!). The pricing was very reasonable and he made sure to note what he did, explain everything and explain the costs associated with the visit. Called McCarver based on their extremely positive reviews here on Yelp to have a tune up done on our furnace before fall and winter arrives. Adam arrived within the given 2 hour time slot and was very professional. Our furnace had been installed by a competitor by a previous homeowner, but Adam was still honest with his opinion that the furnace was installed properly and looked great from the exterior. He was here for about an hour and did a thorough inspection of the furnace to make sure everything was in tiptop shape. My first experience with McCarver was several weeks ago. I got their name from the Consumer's Energy website where they are listed as an approved heating and cooling contractor to perform routine furnace tune ups and be eligible to receive a rebate from Consumer's. I was pleased when I Googled them and saw so many positive reviews, so I called them and scheduled the service. Louis was in and out in under and hour. He arrived on time, was polite and professional and explained everything he was doing thoroughly. McCarver completed and submitted my rebate paperwork to Consumer's on my behalf - I didn't have to do a thing - and the rebate check already came in the mail. Fast forward a few weeks to this past Tuesday when I noticed a whirring noise coming from my furnace, and it was getting louder and louder. I got out my receipt from when they did the tune up simply to see if their phone number was on it so I could give them a call. When looking at the receipt, I noticed Louis had noted in the comments section that my inducer motor was whirring and perhaps the bearings were going bad. He recommended replacing it. So I called and Joe came out the same day to replace the motor. He arrived on time, was polite and professional and was in and out in under an hour as well. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. The price quoted by Louis was honored and quite reasonable, I felt. My furnace was humming along, working like a charm... and no more whirring noise! The next morning (Wednesday), I woke up and remember thinking, "gee it's kinda chilly in here." I went and checked the thermostat and it had gotten down to 62 in the house even though my programmable thermostat is set to go up to 70 from 5:30am to 7:00 am. It was only about 6am at this point so I left a message for the technician on call. Christine called me back shortly and Joe was back out to my place before the temperature could even drop another degree. As it turns out, one of my rollout switches had gone bad and was tripping which was causing the furnace not to ignite and the fan to remain on and blowing cold air. Since it was a new problem, they could have charged me a service call but they didn't. They were all so very kind and their number one concern was making sure that my heat was back on and that I was a satisfied customer. Bottom line, I would definitely recommend McCarver Mechanical Heating and Cooling! They didn't over charge me or try to sell me anything I didn't need. They have been straight forward and fair with me and that's not easy to find these days. Furthermore, they treated me exactly how I want to be treated and THAT is REALLY not easy to find these days! My husband and I highly recommend Chris and McCarver Mechanical. When you live in a house without ductwork, thinking about installing air conditioning can feel overwhelming. We were very concerned about how it might affect the architecture of our house. With McCarver, there were no worries. They ran everything through walls and ceilings. They did not run anything through our closets. Everything is hidden and the house's architecture is untouched. Polite and professional. They showed up on time for all quote and installation. Pricing was competitive. Install was scheduled for 2 days, but Nick and Cody stayed and finished it in 1 and left my house clean as if they had not even been there. Would definitely recommend!! read more
