I had the house built in 1988 and a the furnace the builder installed needed to be replaced 10 years later. My daughter uses them as well now. They are responsive. Their service techs are also very polite, respectful, knowledgeable and professional. I recently tried to clean my drier duct and got the cleaning brush stuck in the duct and found it difficult to find someone who would remove the duct to clear it. So I called McQuade's and the next morning they had a tech remove the duct and clear it. They also cleaned it. I also found their prices to be reasonable.

It was still making a unreasonably loud harmonic sound but did start once. The next call for heat it did not work. I found that there were four screws loose that hold the manifold to the pressure side of the boiler. Once I tightened these the boiler worked as it should. I spent $300 for a cleaning that it probably needed but the technician should have found the loose screws. I would have also felt better if the technician had not told me that I needed a new boiler.

He spent 45 minutes installing it and when I asked him how less than an hours worth of work equates to $800 he snarked back "what - do you want me to take longer?" I again stated how expensive it was and that I didn't think it was a fair and he responded "welcome to the world of HVAC" and that "he doesn't charge by the hour". He later went on to state that there was a lot of work he had to do including picking up the part and filling out paperwork to get reimbursed for the motor. I'm sorry, but that's the cost of business. I was willing to accept the fact that he charged 50% higher rate for a diagnosis than my usual HVAC company because I needed help immediately, but he straight up lied about how "labor intensive" this project was. I do not recommend using this company. I wrote a review yesterday to which he defended himself by stating that he spent an hour on the phone with Carrier to order the part - that is a lie. He sat on my couch and called them from my house and my camera shows that he was here a total of one hour for diagnosis and 45 minutes for installation. He lied about being located in Royal Oak to me also - and Jason, before you claim you didn't say that, I have it on video also. This guy is as dishonest as they come.

He also told me that he could have a crew out the following morning. True to his word, they called first to give me a time and showed up early. They put on booties before entering the house and went right to work. They were friendly yet professional and did a fantastic job. I would not hesitate to hire them again for all my HVAC needs.

Extremely Overpriced and Unnecessary Charges -- AVOID! If…read moreyou're looking for honest HVAC work, look elsewhere. This experience left me feeling ripped off and frustrated. Never again. I was traveling for work and my wife had no choice but to use this company because they were the only ones who could come out quickly. Big mistake. The tech diagnosed my indoor blower motor issue during the initial $189 assessment. He then quoted over $5,120 for a simple ECM blower motor replacement -- including separate inflated charges for "motor module/program" ($2,488) and "motor winding/special order" ($2,294). He claimed it needed special ordering and programming at a distribution center. After researching the exact model (Genteq 5SME39SL0674), I discovered these motors are readily available for $500-$800 as pre-programmed drop-in replacements from multiple suppliers. Labor should have been a few hundred dollars at most. This quote was 3-5 times what a fair price should be. I could even justify 3500 max in an emergency type situation. But the $5150 is an egregious amount for what was required. I felt completely taken advantage of, especially since my wife and child were in a bind with no AC. The "non-refundable once programmed" line felt like a classic pressure tactic. The service was completed, but the value was nowhere near what I paid. After tried to repeatedly get some sort of costs justification from the Manager during a call the next day, even being open minded to the HVAC system being described as the "Cadillac" of HVAC (2011 purchased and installed by the way) I received no back-up support and feel that this was just such a scammy way to run a company. Because of the blatant carelessness in working with a customer, I will be pursuing other means If you're looking for honest HVAC work, look elsewhere. The owner of this business came promptly to my home to assess the problem, and then sent his "workers" to help me. His workers came three (3) days in a row and all they accomplished was tearing my house down. I had to call another company who promptly fixed the problem. There was no protection for my home. The auger ate up the bottom of my walls, there were no tarps used on my carpet and floors; and one of the workers used the walls throughout my home to steady himself. Dirt and oil all on my walls. I noticed on the last night they were when I erroneously thought that the problem was corrected, that there were smudges on my bedroom wall. Fast forward a few days later, two gold bracelets are missing, that I know of. May be more items missing. I called the owner after realizing the theft, and it became obvious that he had blocked me, and I had to use another number. Then, all that he could say is that, "he didn't know what to say." When a company comes into a customer's home it is incumbent on the owner to send credible, healthy, non-rogue individuals. I'm putting in my police report and I advise everyone to steer clear of this contractor.
