THIS IS THE ONE. We had been having an issue for a while (longer than I like to admit) with our old furnace (60% efficiency, yuck) where there would be a big WOOSH from delayed ignition (flames visible outside the front). We'd had a few other places come out to get a servicing/cleaning, but aside from poking around a bit they didn't do much. John actually dismantled the entire burner assembly, wire brushed the burners, and replaced the thermocouple for the pilot light. Over a week later and we've not heard a single delayed ignition sound. And we're talking about a 60 year old furnace. read more

Tried to get service for my condo in [a very safe neighborhood in] Detroit. Despite being less than 20 minutes away, got the "we don't serve this area" message. But areas much further out in the suburbs, they serve. Right. Just another suburban company redlining Detroit for no good reason. read more

I did not want to go through another winter with our old rusting hot water heater or our old furnace, which had been through a number of repairs. I called Soltman based on recommendations of two neighbors who had used them. John Cissell came to our house and did a thorough review of our infrastructure and later gave us a detailed list with costs of suggested replacement. We decided to go with the most efficient furnace with humidifier and new central air conditioning too. The installation took place in early November 2016 over two days (really one and a half days). The old furnace came out the second day and by dinner time the new furnace was in and functional. This was a huge install job and I was impressed with how fast and efficiently these men worked. They were thorough in even making sure all ducts were in good shape, in explaining our new digital thermostat and leaving us manuals on operating the Bryant furnace and air conditioner. They were also good about cleaning up after themselves and hauling away all the pieces of old stuff they removed. It hasn't been long enough for us to know how much lower our gas bills will be with this high-efficiency furnace. Soltman did the paperwork for rebates for us on some of what we purchased and I am getting emails about those rebates being on the way. Neither furnace nor water heater have pilot lights that have to be manually relit. We did a lot of that with our old units and I was always worrying about the furnace dying on a cold day. This purchase was pretty expensive, but we won't have to face doing any of this again. My husband and I are retired and figure the furnace, air conditioning unit and water heater will probably outlast us! read more

Don't call these guys unless you want to overpay for heating and cooling services. When our attic furnace went on the fritz, my wife suggested that we call Soltman because they installed our basement furnace 25 years ago. They were prompt and polite, but the bill was crazy high. We were informed up front that there would be and extra $30 fee because the furnace was in the attic. When I told the person on the phone that the attic furnace was easier to get to than our basement furnace they said that it might be waived by the technician. The technician arrived on time and quickly went to work. He concluded that the problem was the draft inducer assembly. I was told that he'd have to call around to find one. After about 20 minutes in his truck, he came back and informed me that he'd found one nearby and he was going to pick it up. He returned with the part in about 30 minutes and headed back to the attic with the part. In less than 2 hours my furnace was up and running, which was good because the weather forecast was for cold weather to be moving in. I really appreciated the prompt service, but choked when I got the bill. The technician had charged the $30 for the attic service fee and charged $423 for a part that costs less than $200 on the internet. After the fact, I talked with a guy I know in the heating and cooling business too. In our haste to get the furnace repaired we forgot about him and went with the old standby, Soltman. He was surprised by the additional fee for the attic and thought the part price was excessive. It was nice to have the heat back and I realize that everyone has to make a living, but Soltman Heating and Cooling charged me about $350 for 2 hours work. The bottom line is that they are prompt and polite, but be prepared to pay an arm and leg. read more

We recently had our unit break (it was over 30 years old), and with summer approaching, we needed a new unit (and new furnace for winter). We first called randazzo and got an estimate of over $5,000 and were denied financing. Our family has known John for over 20 years, and we called him immediately. He was able to find us a unit that was only 4 years old, and in the end we paid under $4,000. He worked with us on payments, which we couldn't be more grateful for. A/C issues began last night. I contacted them via their web form. I planned on calling them this morning just after they opened (8a). I received a call from them at 8:04a (AWESOMENESS) and was scheduled in for repair. Brian came to my home an checked everything out, charged my unit and went on his marry way. GREAT service! Last winter our furnace failed on a very cold Sunday during the worst Michigan winter in recorded history. We were so relieved that Soltman would come out on a Sunday because we called many companies to try to restore our heat quickly. Our repair was quick and efficient. Husband decided to replace our old furnace. John Cissell gave us a quote and was extremely professional and courteous. We also got a bid from Family Heating and Cooling. The bids were comparable but John's level of detail in reviewing our needs and his professionalism sold us on Soltman. Our furnace was installed last April or May - forgot the exact date. I asked Brian to service my air conditioner and provide consultation on a very high electric bill. Very very thorough, patient, and explained things very well. He took the cover off of my a/c unit and viola (or however you spell it) cottonwood galore! He advised this puts tremendous strain on the unit and drives up utility bills. He also provided strategies around reducing my bill while maintaining the life of the equipment. I really really liked this firm- no pressure to up sell this, that, and the other. read more

Soltman installed my new furnace 10 years ago. Very professional, it's worked perfectly ever since. Time for central air now I didn't even call anybody else. I wanted the job done right. Required electrical, cutting thru cement walls, etc. The same installer did the AC that did the furnace 10 years ago. Same excellent job. Answered all questions and gave some helpful tips. Their quote was not the cheapest but the initial visit was the most professional I got so I went with them to replace my old and cracked gas-fired boiler. Big job, so I wanted to make sure it was done right with work backed by an established business. They didn't disappoint. Their crew was professional and courteous. I explained that I was leaving for a Thanksgiving holiday and would really like the work done beforehand. John told me that he'd do his best to have the boiler and parts delivered in time, but he couldn't guarantee. He got all the parts in time and work began and ended even more quickly than I'd hoped. Everything looks quality, our system has been running flawlessly and I'm not concerned...which is the most important thing to me. And while they weren' thte cheapest quote, they weren't out of the ballpark and they could have upsold me a more expensive boiler (I asked for higher efficiency but he told me due to design factors in my home I would not see much of the efficiency gains) John actually told me go with the lower efficiency model. Now that the big job is done, I am glad I went with Soltman. read more
