I called the company on Monday to get an estimate and timing to replace our outdated outlets and switches as well as installing a new light fixture. The gentleman I spoke with, was able to schedule me for an appointment the same week and gave me great information on how best to accomplish my goals. The estimate was also very reasonable after doing cost comparisons. Griffin, our installer was an incredible electrician. Electrical work or repair is not something that I (or most people) need very often, as contrasted with plumbers or even painters. So after a recent storm we noticed our bedroom lights flickering and I thought we would lose power, but it stayed on. Then, about 12 hours later, I discovered that power to all of our bedrooms was out. After checking the circuit breakers in the basement I found all of the ones labeled bedroom had tripped and would not reset. This is why I began my search for an electrician. I hadn't used one even for our rental properties, so I started thinking. Fortunately, there's Yelp. My quick search brought McGuire Electric to my attention because of their high ratings. It was Sunday and our situation was really not an emergency so I decided to wait and call them on Monday and avoid higher rates for weekends. Then my wife suggested I call and leave a message so they can call me back first thing Monday morning. So I called and, instead of an answering machine I got a live person...who turned out to be the owner! So I described my problem and he set up an appointment for Monday afternoon. The next afternoon, journeyman Kevin and apprentice Gabe showed up and quickly got into solving the problem. They found that the circuit breakers for the bedrooms tested good and reset and worked. And the power was back on in the bedrooms! In other words, they probably had tripped and were still too hot to reset when I tried it but had plenty of time to cool down when they came. This had never happened in the nine years since our house was built, and they said it may or may not happen again. But if it does, I should just replace those three circuit breakers with a more reliable type that I can just pick up at any Home Depot type store and easily replace them myself. What impresses me with McGuire Electric is that they are easy to contact, even on a weekend, they show up when they say they will, they quickly get to the bottom of the problem, they explain what they found and what it means, and they told me what to do to fix it myself if it happens again! We had multiple issues inside and outside to get repaired. The wait time for an appointment was fast and they came out within a week. Our garage lights and porch were replaced with day to night sensors. We also had to replace a couple of faulty outlets. The final issue was to add LED recessed lights. The electrician was thorough and gave good advice on lighting placement. They were also honest about not needing additional lights or outlets which saved me a couple hundred dollars. I got a quote from McGuire and they were courteous and professional the whole time. The quote that lined up with others for a new generator outlet, grounding rods and an upgrade from 100 to 200 amp service. Due to the amperage increase, they needed to tear out the old power pole for one with a slightly larger diameter, which went through the eave. The job they did had minimal impact to the existing structure and was exactly what I was looking for! They were also able to keep the electrical box in the same location as the old one. The guy (it's been a few months so I forget his name) was incredibly helpful with answering all of my questions. Initially the $65 consultation had me hesitating, but it's pretty small compared to the cost of an expensive, permanent project--I'm glad I got it! read more

Based on countless 5 star reviews (apparently they are in high demand) I agreed to pre-pay $65 for their visit, project review, recommendation and financial estimate. That may have all been worthwhile until later learning from another qualified electrician that there was a better and less expensive path to solving our goals. Mick was not only the first one to get back to me -- first thing the next morning -- but also the only one to contact me by phone, which helped clarify issues, answer questions, and move things along much faster. TL/DR: Amazing service from a polite, courteous team. I was in a jam, and they went out of their way to address my issue. I'm super happy with the work, and plan on using McGuire Electric again. Let me tell you why I'll go to McGuire Electric first for all of my electrical needs. In spring 2018, I was in the process of selling my starter house in Royal Oak. It was the right time to sell, and the process was moving pretty smoothly. That is, until I lost power after a storm two weeks before the final walkthrough by the seller. Now, I had lost power plenty of times living in my starter home over the course of 5 years. But, for some reason, my detached garage would not turn back on after power returned. I went through all the normal tests to determine the cause of the issue, but nothing worked. I was stumped. When I called McGuire Electric about the issue, Mick was polite and actually gave me some pointers over the phone to see if the issue could be corrected. When his recommendations didn't work, his team paid my house a visit a few days later. Ultimately, it appeared as though the electrical wiring from my house to the detached garage was basically fried and a new line, as well as huge trench, was required. The good news: Mick's team could absolutely address and fix the issue. The bad news: I only had a week at this point before the walkthrough and they were already booked solid. I called Mick again and asked, "Is there any possible way his team could squeeze me in before the end of the week?" I was in a jam, and I wanted this work done right. After chatting further, Mick re-arranged the schedule and got me in. He went out of his way to accommodate my timeline, and I'm super thankful for that. A few days later, Devan and team ended up spending a whole day at my house to dig a trench for a new line to the detached garage. These guys worked their butts off on a hot May day, and were polite and cordial every time we interacted. They answered my questions, pointed out extra things out that needed to be addressed as the job progressed, and were just genuinely nice guys. As a customer, I so appreciated their positive attitude. The price quote provided to me for this large project was very reasonable, and I was very pleased with the work. I plan to use McGuire Electric again at my new house. So today my mother and I were watching tv on the couch and having lunch when we heard very loud popping and crackling noises. When we went to see what the heck was going on, it turned out that one of our outlets (right next to the couch) was sparking. It burned the plastic of the outlet, but thankfully didn't actually catch fire. Anyway, got on yelp immediately to find an electrician. My dad had strictly been using Angie's List, and had a very long string of crappy businesses with supposedly A ratings, so I came back to yelp to look. Found McGuire's immediately, read some reviews, and called. They missed my original call, but actually called me back while I was about to leave a message. Honestly, that's kind of unheard of when it comes to home maintenance, so I was very impressed from the get-go. Thankfully, they were able to send people out 30 minutes later (again, unheard of in the home maintenance department), who figured out that the plug had NO grounding whatsoever. Thanks, people who updated the home! We have a new plug with a feature that will act like a grounder, so that's great. I'm just glad we were there for it so the house didn't catch on fire. Last month McGuire completed a 3day overhaul on the wiring in my RO house. Excellent experience all-around. They def. deserve all these 5 star ratings! Most of my house was updated before I bought, but 2nd story & attic still had some old knob & tube and ungrounded outlets. Everything worked but just felt it was unsafe with a growing family. I had multiple companies quote the job but Jason was by far the most professional, detailed, friendly and technically confident. Other companies seemed overwhelmed by the job, but not Jason. And some wouldn't give me a solid price because of the "unknown" with older homes. It was nice to see a detailed written quote and Jason stuck to a price, which was more than fair. Even after they encountered some difficulties Jason and Fred brought on Elvis & Dave to help out and stay on-schedule. I even added some extra requests after they started and Jason wrote me a new quote on the spot and worked it into the current work load, still keeping true to the original time estimate. Lastly, some other companies tried to "save me some $" by suggesting I not pull a permit. Jason recommended the permit 100% and still the price was better then most of the other companies. We bought an old house with quirky electric wiring that probably underwent decades of self-made repairs. I had to replace a broken switch and thought it would be an easy fix, but I was wrong and half of our house was in the dark. My wife called and they came right away, and did the job for a good price. They even came back a few hours later when I came home and found a couple of outlets that weren't working.
