Excellent Irish Pub with phenomenal wings, fab pizza and fun atmosphere! All the fresh popped popcorn you can eat while waiting for your meals! The menu boasts a wide variety of options so there is definitely something for everyone! Waitstaff is awesome, friendly and fun! Outdoor seating is perfectly situated over looking the pretty Belchertown Common. Waitstaff provide outdoor table service as well. Full bar with knowledgeable bartenders... They know their drinks and will make great suggestions if you can't make up your mind! Everyone is welcome at McCarthy's!!! We were made to feel right at home! We were a very eclectic party of 12 on a Friday night and were beautifully accommodated! All our food was excellent and all meals arrived at the same time so no one was left waiting while others ate! Friendly local pub. Great place to have a beer out on the deck in nice weather. Reasonably priced bar food, don't expect gourmet but fine for what it is. When they have fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, try a sea breeze cocktail. Really good! read more

We stopped here for burgers they were wonderful charbroiled and deliciously cooked to our liking. Hand cut fries were great and also the sweet potato fries were wonderful. My garden salad tasted great seems like fresh homemade blue cheese dressing. read more

This place is a hidden treasure! Stopped for lunch and could not have been more pleased. Delicious home cooked , tender pastrami on fresh rye with a perfect amount of sauerkraut. yum! Fantastic selection of beers and coctails and the waitress turned out to be the owner herdelf. She was very friendly and welcoming and was willing to provide us with anything needed to make our visit a good one. read more

We have stopped before and had decent burgers- I had Cobb Salad that was gross! The lettuce was rotten, "pink" tomatoes ( c'mon its summer- how about FRESH produce????) cold rubbery bacon and chewy , burnt chicken... if we weren't in a hurry I would have sent it back..... atmosphere is great , nice place to stop after a bike ride. tough getting served and then once served, you don't see the waitress again until you wait and wait and wait for the bill, the French fries were soaked in oil and had a burnt oil taste. we also ordered, potato skins, after showing a different waitress our plate of rotten potatoes she said oh there just burnt. Have to say that I love this place. Yes, it's somewhat of a dive bar. it's not dirty or gross, just a restaurant bar. We went when I was visiting my relatives over the holidays. THe snow was coming down and we were going stir crazy. this place was close, and open, and SO glad we went! IT was surprisingly crowded inside, particularly given the bad weather. We sat at the bar and the bartender (i would guess she is an owner or one of the owners or related to owners or maybe just worked there forever) was fantastic! She asked if we had been there before and, when we hadn't, said first drink was on her! Good beer selection--not just miller and bud (not that there's anything wrong with that). the menu was affordable and good, too. I ordered baked scrod casserole or something buttery and delicious that reminds me of my grandma and childhood in western ma. it was maybe $13, HUGE, and delicious. Everyone was really friendly and nice. The people around us were playing some sort of "popper" game, which I had never heard of, so she also told us about it and gave us two free plays (it's evidently some type of gambling game. I know, I'm naive). When I asked for the scrod to go, she had the kitchen make me a whole new one (or maybe they just had it leftover, but whatever, it was super nice). We loved the place so much I bought a tee shirt. I mean, who does that? But I had to. :) When I told my family we went there, they were a little shocked because I guess they hadn't been in years and didn't love it that much way back then...but I suggested they go check it out because we thought it was great! This place is the heart of B'town. Pub food is good and we love the homemade potato chips. Revolving monthly cocktail menu is a nice new addition. By far the best thing about this place is the atmosphere. We always see a familiar face and are made to feel right at home. read more

Let's be honest - it's not supposed to be fine cuisine. It's supposed to be bar food - and it excels at that. Their clam bellies tend to be amazing for something so inland, and they always have good rotating specials along with the usual solid menu choices. If you're a local, and they recognize you, it's like eating in a huge room full of happy, well-fed and sometimes drunk friends (unless you have peanut allergies, in which case, stay far away.) The beer is cheap, they always have good games on the TVs, and they don't mind if you're just there for one beer and a few wings while your cable's out and the Sox are on. If you're not a local, and they don't recognize you, just show up a couple times, have fun, and they'll remember you. read more

A group of us go out for a weekly motorcycle ride on Monday nights, and this week we ended up by the Quabbin, so we decided to stop in here. It looked fairly busy, but we decided to take our chances. We arrived at 7:45 pm, and our presence wasn't even acknowledged until 8:00. The waitress took our drink order, and was back in about 15 minutes with our drinks. I decided to try the McCarthy's mixer drink special which was supposed to be Knob Creek maple bourbon with cranberry. She came back a few minutes later and informed me that they had run out of the maple, but that she could substitute regular knob creek. I hemmed and hawed for a moment and said I'll try it. Wasn't terrible, but I normally drink my bourbon neat or on the rocks depending what bourbon it is. I wasn't informed that there would be an upcharge for the substitution, had I been made aware of this I would've just gotten my bourbon the way I like it. As for the rest of our drink order, The mixed drinks were sub-par, and the draft beer was flat. The DJ came over and asked if we were there for trivia, so we decided to play (I'm a huge trivia buff so it's hard to say no). 25 minutes went by, and the waitress still hadn't come back for our food order. We helped ourselves to peanuts and popcorn because by this point we had already been there an hour. Our table ordered a plethora of appetizers (chicken tenders, Fried mac and cheese bites, cheesy garlic knots, fried mozzarella, curly fries, and a Reuben egg roll), a wrap, and a pulled pork sandwich. We waited another 40 minutes for the food, which was decent, save for the Reuben egg roll, which was absolutely terrible. Even though we were tied for first for trivia we didn't want to be there any longer than necessary; we paid our check and left as the last round of trivia was commencing. Altogether wasn't an overly pleasant experience, someone had mentioned that there was a new Pizza Hut that had just opened up the street and we left remorseful that we hadn't decided to pay for our drinks and eat there. read more

Love tuesdays half price wing night and they have some of the best wings i have ever had. It is very busy in there and a seat yourself. Dont beat up the waitresses because they dont have time to chat and be overly friendly because they are running their butts of trying to get all the wings out to all the customers. It is very busy on tuedays, but well worth it. They also have help yourself popcorn and peanuts to munch on while waiting. Very laid back atmosphere. I highly recommend. read more

I have eaten here on several occasions and was actually a walking goal of mine from Ludlow. Service can be slow at times, but the atmosphere is awesome and relaxing. If you want fast food, go to Mcdonalds or Burger King. I have never seen it rowdy, but can get loud when the house is full. The food is delicious and you have free popcorn as well. Its cozy and plenty of TVS around to catch your local sports. Worth the trip from anywhere. I would highly recommend McCarthy's Pub to anyone... Just go in and chill!! Kid friendly...Not the best for that, but have seen kids in there...Family's choice... read more
