This review is not for the food. I have never been here before so we stopped in for lunch. I had the Cobb salad and it was very good. When we arrived I sat with the three others from my foursome and I asked for separate checks. Later on, another foursome +1 and sat at a separate table, although we knew all of them. We even ordered before they all sat down. When I paid my tab, the handheld computer asked for a tip, so I put in a custom tip, and asked for my receipt. I looked at my receipt later and was shocked that a 20% tip had been automatically added for " large group". Well, I wasn't with a large group. I was at a table of 4. So the server received a 20% tip, plus a custom tip. I asked someone else at our table if they noticed and they said no, because they didn't ask for their receipt. Very disappointing. read more

Went to this gem for Mother's Day, baby momma picked it. Everything about this place is an awesome experience. If you are a golfer, it's a must visit. We entered through the front and right past the bar, beautiful área. BM picked seating on the outside patio, lots of space with plenty of shade, and beautiful view of the course and a pond right in front of you. You come to this place for the views and tranquility this off the path place offers. The ambience is amazing for any occasion or even just to sit and catch your breath. I can go on about the ambiance but you really need to visit to get the full experience. The food was good, I had the chicken sando with a sweet slaw, on toasted sourdough. Very tasty and nice flavor combo, I would order it again. The lady had a smash burger with avocado and she enjoyed it. My boy had the asada fries. The service was good, young lady that was very professional during a busy time. Again, words cannot do justice to this place. The fact that baby momma picked a golf course for Mother's Day lunch is a testament to the beauty and tranquility of the place. First time at McCanns and the place is very nice & views of golf course are beautiful. My wife had the special tomato soup & grill cheese sandwich and I a Cobb Salad. My wife enjoyed her order and to her surprise the melted cheese sandwich had brisket inside. My Cobb salad was flavorful and plentiful. The service was spot on. Restrooms were spotless. This is such a lovely location for lunch and this is my third time visiting. The food is really quite good but I have one major complaint. My companion ordered the quesadilla with steak and honestly, I think $18 for a pathetic amount of beef is quite exorbitant. Really $18?? I would love to go back and have the quesadilla myself but I'm never gonna pay $18 for a tiny little amount of beef. I think they should revisit that price. It would be one thing if you had a slab of beef but a little bit of chopped beef in a quesadilla is really taking advantage of the public. Brunch with a view? Yes please! McCann's is our new go-to for weekend brunch. We sat outside overlooking the golf course--so peaceful! I had the Eggs Benedict (perfectly poached ), and my daughter went all in on the Bread Pudding French Toast ... total showstopper. I took my wife to McCann's for a late lunch last Wednesday (7/18). The bartender seated us outside with menus and told us our server would be right with us. The server came out twice to help two other tables within 20 feet of our table. She didn't even look at us, let alone speak to us. After 10 minutes of nothing, I went back in to the bar to place our food and drink orders. Another 10 minutes or so passed and the server came out to help the other tables again 4 times. Not a word or even a look again. At that point we went inside, unsure if we'd get our food. The bartender took care of us and we enjoyed our sandwiches. Overall it was a pretty unpleasant experience, however I still tipped the bartender over 20% for her apology and help trying to make our experience better. Fast forward a few days and I just saw that the credit card charge was $5 higher than what I signed for. With the pricing of everything out at San Juan oaks, I expected a lot more. I'll be taking a long break from all of the businesses out there. read more

Hidden gem! Country club ambience at a public golf course. We went to the more causal bar with outside seating. Our lunch was outstanding. My husband had the California Club, which was huge and robust. I had the grilled cheese with braised short rib and spicy BBQ sauce on excellent bread. Absolutely delicious! The service was great, friendly and quick. On our next trip from Sacramento to Santa Barbara we will definitely be back! read more

This is a great place in town to get a drink. Located inside the San Juan Oaks Gold Club, the setting is peaceful and serene. We can't wait for it to warm up to take advantage of the patio. This place is not just for golfers looking for a 19th hole round of drinks and bites. My wife loves the espresso martinis here - they have a coffee bar adjacent to the bar so the cocktail is made with real coffee. I usually opt for an ice cold beer; great selection of local beer along with the national favorites. Their wings are a good snack along with their Mediterranean chips and dip. We have yet to try a proper meal, but the burgers look amazing. This is a great addition to the small town of Hollister. Again, we can't wait to get back - both to McCanns and I can't wait to hit this course! It's so gorgeous out there. read more

Amazing experience here! I'm a local from Hollister and have been coming for several years. The remodel is so beautiful. Me and my husband stopped in today for lunch and to check out the renovations. It's very nice but very casual, we felt at home in t shirts here. The service was wonderful, very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and portion sizes were generous! This is an updated review as I have now visited at least 5 times since my last review. I have take friends and family with me to share my wonderful first experience and the beautiful setting. And it has gotten worse with each visit. And I am an excellent tipper! Like above and beyond tipper! And if my guests have made complaints-by sending back a drink or a food plate that was not liked (like undercooked/raw bacon served on a club sandwich) I have over tipped to cover the sent back food item because that's just how I am. However, I no longer recommend...unless you are just going for beer or wine and the view. It is a beautiful venue. The quality of booze for cocktails is crap! The new bartenders they have hired, do not know how to mix cocktails. The food quality for everything else I have ordered has been that of typical bar-food quality but pricy. And worse the service has gone to hell! The wait staff is nice and they do try but they are way under staffed and not supported. I promise you, You Will Wait. Waiting to order, waiting for drinks, waiting on food, waiting on condiments that should have been brought in advance or at least with the food. Waiting on check. Waiting on change. We had a great time here. Casual atmosphere with some really good sports bar food. The SJO burger, the Thai Chicken Salad and the Poke salad were really good. You get your choice of sides with the burger and we got the sweet potato fries which were a nice change from fries. Service and drinks were all good. But, the food is hit and miss, ordered the halibut tacos there was like 2 small pieces of fish and lots of cabbage, gave it a second try less fish, they need a better menu and and a better cook! Burgers are good if you eat burgers! The prices are high for certain items. The chicken Caesar salad was also not good, chicken was dry and micro waved! Hope this helps so improvements in the food makes this a better choice to eat:) read more
