I would NOT recommend this company. They have some VERY caring and skilled people in the field that do great work! But the owner made this a regrettable experience. We were told by their own employees, that the company at one time (before it changed owners) had a great reputation for their work and integrity, very focused on customer satisfaction and problem solving when situations arose, and the workers were treated with kindness and respect. That is not the case anymore. They are careless & inexperienced, and too proud to admit they've made a mistake and correct it. Instead, they try to blame their clients and charge them for it! All while treating them with contempt for simply wanting what was promised to them in their contract. They don't listen and are unresponsive when there is an issue. Months we waited sometimes to see problems addressed or even acknowledged! They wouldn't even respond, after several calls and emails, until we threatened legal action. It shouldn't have to come to that. They say they can be trusted at your home while you are at work to get everything done, you don't have to worry about anything! This is not so. We had to stop them from installing things in the wrong spot, not to mention them trying to use the wrong material, provide tools and hardware for installations where they were unprepared. They would schedule to meet with subcontractors, then wouldn't show up. They would say they were coming, then be hours late, no phone call/apology, nothing. We once actually had a few of their guys NAPPING in our driveway all day, because they were supposed to meet their manager in the morning and he didn't bother to show up until after lunch, they weren't allowed to do anything until he got there. They couldn't get the sprinkler to work because they were using a refurbished system that was already linked to another system elsewhere. Then tried to say they never planned to install a sprinkler there and we needed to pay extra if we wanted one there. They installed an umbrella, and when they couldn't get it open because of their careless design (they didn't take into account other things around it, BBQ island, etc.) they tried to say we were responsible for it because it was "our design"!! Really?! We not only did not design this project (that's part of what they were paid to do), we originally asked for a pergola. They said "you'll be happier with this", so we trusted them. Now in order to make it functional, they had to put it on a concrete pedestal (ugly), and it's so high it hardly shades the seating area! Which was it's purpose. A large amount of the plants that were chosen have died and we had to replace. So many things!! The things mentioned here are just a few examples of what we dealt with.. They came, I don't even know how many times, trying to get the fireplace to work, trying to charge us for it every time they're new plan didn't work. One person says "we do fireplaces all the time", another says "no, we've never done this kind of fireplace" Hmmm... They couldn't get the fountain to work properly/not leak either. They sent us an email that said they don't know how to fix fountains and we have to wait until some matter between them and another subcontractor they hired was settled. Then the next day their guys came and said they were going to fix the fountain! I ask what about this email that said you guys don't do fountains? he said "we do fountains all the time. we know what to do" Hmmm... I don't know how many times they came out trying to get that fixed. It is now up on shims, which looks ridiculous! That was their solution. And we called/emailed several times because when they came to do that, they did something to the autofill and it wasn't working properly. No one EVER responded about that. That is your warranty! They won't even respond! Every time we brought a problem to their attention, they argued that they didn't need to fix it. There were lights in the fountain that wouldn't work, we contacted them so many times about this. They told their PM to send us some lights and tell us "they are more than capable of installing them themselves". Just wow! This is disgusting to me. Petty and poorly handled. Everything! This was a $124K project, and they argued about some $20 pole caps that their careless inexperienced design SHOULD have included already. Just petty and prideful. We saved/waited, and were excited to do this project. Were excited to do it with them too! They turned something that was supposed to be a wonderful experience into a nightmare! I'm sure they will have a bag full of excuses for their poor performance, but I hope they really think about their conduct. Problems come up/ things go wrong, a good company will take care of these things and it's not a big deal. This company gets an attitude and ignores you, after they've blamed you for it. As long as they are treating their clients in this manner, I hope no one else gets involved with them. read more

Chapter 1: "Wishful Thinking" The initial visit was from John McCabe himself. Who gave us what we thought was a reasonable assessment for what we were looking for. Grass, concrete, mulch and maybe a sun sail. Fast forward 3 months... They come out and start working on the job. Honestly quite quickly, we pay on time and the last payment goes through and this is when the real fun started. We were told the sun shade was not in stock and would take a few weeks to get here, but they had no problem cashing our checks before that. We pay and the job remained unfinished. Meanwhile, during the installation the entire front yard was completely trashed by the crew, which I expected. You have to dig for draining and pipes, etc. However what I didn't expect is for them to not fix it. So, I call Chris (McCabes Rep) and ask him why my front yard is trashed and for some reason they took four bushes out of the yard with them. We get into a back and forth where he tells me that was required for the sidewalk (it wasn't). So we schedule a time for him to come out and look at the damage because apparently he didn't trust the pictures we sent him. Anyway he comes out and I show him not only are the bushes missing, but drip lines are cut and the remaining drip lines are spraying water into the air. I was then offered 100$ per bush, which we obviously declined. We schedule a time and are assured by Chris that everything is going to be fixed. They come to install the shade and "fix" the front yard. The crew shows up and has no idea that the front yard was supposed to be fixed. Furthermore, McCabe's apparently did not measure the shade correctly so they installed a shade that was too large. It was literally tied in knots to the posts. Call McCabes, now Kelly picks up. Chris is now fired and has not informed the team of anything that has been happening. We forward all the emails, explain the situation, and they finally show up and fix some of the damage to the front yard, which at this point I was happy the drip lines weren't spraying water into the air. Chapter 2: Sun Shade from Hell Flash back to John sitting in my kitchen, "You want professionals to install a sunshade, don't do it yourselves because you guys are at a top of a hill and you will get some wind up here". Which apparently this shade could not take the wind which caused all four beams to bend aggressively (see attached picture). This obviously prompted me to call McCabes which to their credit showed up and then proceeded to take it down and break a bunch of light bulbs all over my patio I had in a storage container on my ladder that I let him borrow (you can't make this stuff up). From then I was told due to the holidays and COVID It probably will be in the new year for them install the new shade. At least at this point I thought we were making progress because Chris was gone and Kelly was more responsive. Chapter 3: False Hope I get in touch with Kelly post Holidays and ask what is the plan? I was finally told they had a plan for the shade, the shade was in stock and they were ready to install it. The installation date comes and the installation is completely botched. There are cracks in the wood, unpainted brackets, screws screwed in at an angle, stucko missing from my house, the shade is hanging way to low, the concrete is chipped, spray-paint on the patio overall a complete disaster. I call again and then I am introduced to Ricardo. The plan he gives me is an excellent example of terrible customer service. (See attached email) They're going to upcharge me to fix their botched installation. Further more, he explains to me that they fulfilled their end of the contract. And this type of wood will behave "as expected" such as "cracking" despite them recommending this wood to me and despite this only being a few months post installation. And apparently their margins are so narrow that they have to charge me (I don't know how this my fault as I have no control over setting their margins). And finally apparently they've already added some "uncharged courtesy items... to ensure customer satisfaction" which I have no idea what that was because we are certainly not satisfied. I attached an email from their "manager" as of 2015/02/15. Basically says they installed everything in accordance with the contract and they want me to remove or change my Yelp review. "In order to split the cost, we kindly request that there is a correction to the Yelp review..." Using Yelp as a weapon to coerce your customers into complying with your will is below average and certainly not what a company (who is trying to create more customers) would do. My last request was for them to remove what they installed and refund me the money, which I'm highly doubtful will result in anything other than more excuses about the bottom line. All said and done, this what I'm left with. Four broken posts that look like a kindergartner installed them and a company that wants to charge me more to fix them. read more

We recently moved to the area and wanted to update the landscaping in our backyard. After a few bids for putting in artificial turf which was quite expensive, we had McCabe landscaping provide a plan and estimate on refreshing our backyard. The project included replacing sod, removing plants and replacing with new more appropriate plants, putting in a dog run area as well as removing some cement and adding shrubs for privacy on both sides. The team completed the project in 6 days as scheduled including a few small changes we added. During the project, the team arrived as expected and always left our property as they found it with much consideration. I had called the office prior to the upcoming holiday weekend, curious on when they would be back to resume, and was told the workers would be there on the holiday and the day after. AND THEY WERE. We had the same crew of four day to day and they were all professional, kind, and extremely HARD WORKING. Had a large front yard redo done. From the planning, design and completion of the project it all went smoothly. Everything (dumpster portapotty) was arranged in advance and arrived and left on schedule. Materials for the project arrived in the morning and were used each day so things were not sitting around. There was an on site supervisor working with the crew each day. Everything was cleaned up at the end of each day. We had a few rain delay days but they were made up. Problems were minor but they were quickly and efficiently resolved. Project was completed within the projected timeline. It took 3 years to save enough money for my front yard landscape project. Like most of you happy reviewers, I thought I selected the best for the job. Of the 108 plants that were included in my contract, almost half died within 2 weeks of planting and some were not planted at all. After several attempts to finalize this project, I was informed that I was on the scheduled for October 12. To my surprise October 12th came and went with a no show from this company and no communication as to what may have happened. Needless to say, I am not very excited about this company right now. I have no more faith in this company and hope if they have any integrity at all they will send me a refund for the plants that expired along with the plants that were never planted. read more

Beautiful landscaping job! We turned our front yard from grass to more desert, southwest theme - rocks, dry river bed, drought tolerant plants, etc. They completed the job in about 4-5 days. There's one more outstanding item and one other related issue that we need to figure out and hope to resolve soon. Communication from the company could have been better (i.e. courtesy call to let us know people are coming to start, check ins during and after the job has been completed), but overall very happy with the overall design and work done. Nothing but good things to say about our experience with McCabe. We had concrete done prior to McCabe and the process took months, there was no formal contract the company would abide by, it was horrendous. We got a quote from McCabe for landscaping our massive slope hill. It was pricier than the others but came with a formal drawing, exact plants and specifications as well as an actual start and end date- 5 days start to finish. We started exactly on time, finishing exactly on time too. I wanted to add 3 more trees halfway through and they obliged with a formal change request. We had a walk-through upon last payment. The team went above and beyond and helped us set up the lights we self installed. I challenge anyone to actually work with a different vendor in this area and get the beautiful quality, formality, the effectiveness and timeliness as McCabe!! read more

Our original re-landscaping was designed and completed by McCabe's almost 10 years ago. We were their first maintenance customer back then. Recently, we had the need to refresh their original job due to plants maturing and needing replacing, and also because some plants that thrived 10 years ago had succumbed due to new, hotter and drier weather patterns. The "refresh" was done quickly and well, and we couldn't be happier now that they have Gabriel Gallegos as part of their team. He listens thoroughly and responds in a timely manner to every comment until we are completely satisfied. I'd give them 5 stars, but the "refresh" is so new we're still in a wait-and-see mode. When we got our condo a couple of years ago we knew we wanted to do something with the yard but didn't know what exactly. There was pre-existing outdoor tile we wanted to keep so the vegetation was the main focus. I wanted to take some time to write about the OVERALL IMPRESSIVE EXPERIENCE we had had with McCabe's Nursery's team from beginning to end. A little back story about our remodel, we previously hired a landscape designer who provided us with a completed design. We then contacted and received estimates from 6 different companies including McCabe's. Each representative who came out had different ideas and every person told us they could complete the designs provided by the designer except for McCabe's. It seemed there was a design flaw, and McCabe's was the only one who was 100% transparent and honest about it, which is really what made us choose McCabe's Landscape Construction to design and create the backyard of our dreams. Overall, our experience with McCabe's at every step was spectacular which is why I wanted to take some time to share our experience during each one. From the initial estimate experience John established trust by identifying design flaw and offering alternative options. We greatly appreciated the direct and honest approach on how your company approaches and handles projects, which is hard to find with most companies today who are more concerned about making money as opposed to doing/suggesting what is best for the customer. We were also impressed with his knowledge about drought tolerant landscaping, especially about Kurupira and flowering plants. He definitely left a lasting impression as we enjoyed his creative ideas and cost saving suggestions, and as soon as he left my husband and I both said to each other we found the company that will bring the backyard of our dreams to life. After we made our decision the design process was great as well. Ingrid was very easy to work with and the ability to make changes while on the Zoom call so we could visualize what everything would look like made the process stress free on our end. Also, her extensive knowledge of the software and how to use it to make some pretty significant changes to the original design was very notable. In addition, her knowledge and creative ideas about the plants, design features, and little touches helped bring our vision to life in the final design. I saved my highest praise and compliments for last, regarding the GREATEST LANDSCAPING TEAM led by Hector and Edgar that we have ever had experience with. Both my husband and I work remotely from our home and as you can probably imagine the anticipation of having a landscaping work crew here every day for 3 weeks caused some anxiety, BUT once we met the team and after they completed their first day of all our concerns were immediately gone. Each member of the team was meticulous in every task they performed, they were constantly working, and were able to answer every question and address all our concerns thoroughly and honestly. Every single person on the team was extremely friendly, polite, and professional at all times. In fact, they made such a positive impression that our neighbors 2 houses down said they were planning to reach out to their company to get an estimate for their needs because they were so impressed with the professionalism of your team. I could probably write another 500 words to describe the exceptional, positive, remarkable, and overall impressive your landscaping team is. In fact, I enjoyed them so much that this Monday I missed seeing their smiling faces as their last day on our project was Friday. Decided to go with these guys as there interaction with us from the planning at the start was very thorough and professional. After the owner of the company came out and took a look. He arranged a zoom call to go through ideas. We then had another zoom call with Ingrid to look at the plan they came up with. Once agreed and contracts signed we had to wait around 6 weeks to start the job. Prior to starting they were quick to answer any questions or changes we had. The job was done over a 2 week period. All the workers wore masks. The plants that were used seem to be healthy and the patio looks great. Overall we would recommend them. read more
