I had a custom desert-style vision in mind and Mike and his crew delivered while being patient and professional throughout the process. A large project with big ornamental plants naturally brings some challenges, but all issues were addressed and made right in the end. Irrigation was installed to the plants and spacing was done well for a symmetrical, automated setup. The largest tree, a Mediterranean fan palm in a 30" box, was installed expertly - showing they can handle heavy, mature trees as well. Re-Leaf wasn't the cheapest option, but I chose them based on reviews and the experience that was clear during the initial consultation. The end result matches my vision and has made maintenance far easier. Thank you to Mike, Juan, and the team for bringing it to life.

I am also happy with how they routed my irrigation system. There are the occasional weeds growing through the weed guard, but I think that's inevitable. The bad: Most of the trees they planted ended up dying because they were planted incorrectly. All trees are on the same irrigation system that they routed, so they all received the same amount of water. 7/10 trees died. I pulled them out and saw that they didn't prepare the soil correctly and didn't spread the roots out after transplanting the trees. The ugly: The gate install was a complete disaster. They put the gate frame on backwards which cause the gate to have uncontrollable sagging. Also, the gate lock was put on backwards.

The backyard was a disaster since the home had been vacant for a few years. During the project, we added a waterfall to our slope as a last-minute change order. We left the waterfall design entirely up to John. He created an absolutely beautiful waterfall and installed it within a week or two, including the ability to turn the waterfall on and off from inside the house (really cool!). During the first year, we had some difficulty with the waterfall's continuous operation, but each time John was able to resolve the issue. The last time the waterfall went down, about 3 months ago, John identified the pump was defective and replaced it with a new one at no cost. The waterfall has since been running continuously without any problems. As a side note, the day before John was coming out to install the new pump, I broke a water line while trying to dislodge a hose that was frozen to the hose bibb. When I mentioned this to John and mentioned the quotes I had from plumbers to fix, he offered to fix it for substantially less. Thank you, John! John has a natural eye for landscaping and during this past year, he has come up with many suggestions that have enhanced our original landscaping plans. The only reason for 4 stars is we are still in the process of refining the backyard landscape with John, replacing a few plants that died, and adding more color. After we are completely done landscaping the backyard, I will do a follow-up review. I am hoping to be giving John 5 stars!

I'm familiar with the process for this job, so I could tell they were not cutting any corners and took pride in their work. They always cleaned up at the end of every day, and never left a mess. Since I'm being accused of defamation, here is more proof…read more In my opinion, This tree was planted too deep and there was too much mulch and bark completely covering the trunk and base of the tree that we had to remove, unfortunately, this suffocated the tree according to 2 local nurseries. It didn't help that you incorrectly set our sprinkler system. My dad asked for the front yard and back yard to be set the same amount of time in morning and late afternoon, you set it so that the back yard got the highest amount of water in the morning AND afternoon and the front yard got the lower amount of water in the morning and afternoon. No wonder the tree is almost dead. Now to address your accusation of racism: How about you ask your guys that were here when the front yard was being done how often I would speak Spanish with them every time I pulled up to my house? I asked them how to say a couple things and they taught me. I enjoyed having you guys around, including you (when you were there). My post was nothing personal. I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and I always make it a point to practice when I can so I don't forget words. I can also speak a tiny bit of Vietnamese (learned about 20 years ago), tiny bit of Chinese (Mandarin- still learning), a little French and a little German. I've lived in Southern California my entire life. You only met 3 white people at my house and my whole family is an extremely mixed bunch of 3 different races. It's awfully judgmental of you to label someone as racist simply because of their skin color. Telling someone they did something wrong isn't racist, just fyi. I understand your go to "racist" comment with the way the world is right now, but it was displaced towards the wrong people. In my opinion, and the opinion of other landscaping companies that came in to complete the job and saw your work, your company's work was poor. Bottom line. Nothing personal. Just business. You could have fixed the problems (because there are more than I posted) instead of ghosting us and ignoring the issues, but you didn't. It's normal for some people to lash out and personally attack someone when they have no rebuttal for non-personal criticism. However, it's poor business practice when a customer shares their opinion based on their experience (with pictures) and instead of merely apologizing, you dig a deeper hole. Best of luck!

We have utilized Brad for design on two of our homes. Each time, we met with Brad for a initial consultation, where he truly LISTENED to our preferences and needs. From there, he followed up twice to ensure the direction he was pursuing was concistent with those preferences. His attention to plant selection, and ability to design a landscape that is aesthetically consistent with our home was very reassuring. He selected plants and trees we would have never found, but are unique and attractive. We got a lot of compliments on our landscaping. I surely wasn't expecting this. Jeff came out to measure the new spot and confirm the scope of work. He was efficient, flexible with his timing, and arrived in the window given. Jeff's quote was not the most expensive nor was it the cheapest. What made us choose Ruff & Ready you ask? Jeff spoke as if what he said would actually happen. And that's how it went! He was transparent, honest, and didn't fluff anything. He got us a quote for the updated work within 24 hours. His office assistant Vanessa answered all our questions and walked us through the timeline of the whole thing, from start to finish, from signing our contract to paying the deposit to when we would begin work to how to pay the remaining balance. Vanessa answered text messages promptly and also answered the phone. No elevator music on the other line, no 'all of our representatives are busy' garbage. The crew who came out was incredible. It's awfully judgmental of you to label someone as racist simply because of their skin color. Telling someone they did something wrong isn't racist, just fyi. I understand your go to "racist" comment with the way the world is right now, but it was displaced towards the wrong people. In my opinion, and the opinion of other landscaping companies that came in to complete the job and saw your work, your company's work was poor. Bottom line. Nothing personal. Just business. You could have fixed the problems (because there are more than I posted) instead of ghosting us and ignoring the issues, but you didn't. It's normal for some people to lash out and personally attack someone when they have no rebuttal for non-personal criticism. However, it's poor business practice when a customer shares their opinion based on their experience (with pictures) and instead of merely apologizing, you dig a deeper hole. Best of luck!

They did some demo work, poured concrete for a new walkway and patio, added a long pony wall for a large planter, and installed new sod and irrigation.
