Used to love this place like crazy.. Today, the bartender let us know we could sit wherever we'd like, and then we waited 5 minutes. Not a big deal, 5 minutes is good. She returned to our table to take our drink orders, and then we waited 10 more minutes for our actual server to take our order. I don't fault the bartender, she was great. The menu is not nearly as good as the old menu. A lot of the old corn beef specialty plates like the McRoberts Plaid are long gone, and my corned beef hash plate had no sides included (said so right in the menu), so when I looked for a list of their side items on the menu, there was no "sides" section, so I asked for some bacon. The server didn't know how to ring in a side of bacon. Wha? That's gotta be easy, no? My wife got the Reuben sandwich and chips. For the price, we thought we'd get some high quality, possibly house-made chips..what did we get? Ruffles. Meh. Waited about 15 minutes for our food (not bad), but because we waited so long for her to take our order, we both ran out of beverages halfway thru our meals. Had to wave our server down because she just never returned to ask us if we needed anything else. I know waving down a server to some seems rude, but I was desperate for a refill on an empty glass that was empty for many minutes. After the meal was over, our server didn't return again, so I again had to wave her down to get the check. She didn't return for us to pay the check, so another bartender eventually came over to finish the transaction. Total time spent getting breakfast at noon at a half filled McBobs was an hour and ten minutes. That's kind of a long time for breakfast for 2. At least they don't out the mandatory tip on anymore. Owners: Look at the old McBobs menus and consider reintroducing some of the classic breakfast items. This was not nearly as good as the old menu. And please, if you're short staffed, step in. We had a great time playing bingo and celebrating St Patrick's Day. They had live music, dancers, and free jello shots. The inside was packed, but they had a tent outside for the activities. The food was a little pricy and ordering was tough from the tent because you waited in line inside and had to keep going back in to check if it was ready. read more

Been here several times. The food has always been very good. Made reservations for 6:00 and got seated right away. The servers got right to us and we settled in. Got our drinks right away and placed our ordered. The appetizer came out in good time. A double order of Scotch Egg. Something that everyone should try. It was hot and delicious, with a perfect side of brown mustard. Then we waited, and waited.... It wasn't that crowded and it took about 40 minutes to get our food. (Have never waited this long, with so few people in the restaurant). All the food was amazingly good, as usual. Got fish frys and corn beefs, dinners and sandwiches. Big portions, plenty hot and well seasoned. I hope the long wait for the food is not a sign of things to come. We will definately be back. The Corn Beer is some of the best in the city! read more

My dad loves Irish bars so I thought I'd take him here--HE LOVED IT. The kind bartender, the attentive cook, and the traditional bar full of good beer--all made for a great time for dad. He went wild when trying the Irish Springroll app--and I have to admit they were great (I just don't care either way about corned beef)! Just moved to the neighborhood.. my brother and I just went for a few drinks, also had cheesy bacon fries. The little appetizer was pretty good. My brother had beer I had wine. It's definitely a very diviey Irish bar. But 18% gratuity for only two of us.?! I've only heard of this when there's parties of six or more give me a break. It hasn't been the pandemic in five years. Scotch egg? Only place I've ever had one. Irish nachos? Ditto. Sandwiches? Delicious. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but we've never had a problem. The menu has more items and a larger variety of items than I would have expected from a neighborhood bar, but everything is worth checking out. Sometimes, I'm not in the mood for a corned beef sandwich, so I'll get a couple of Scotch eggs. Sometimes they come out a bit overdone, and sometimes they come out perfect, so be aware. Once, and only once, did I try the Irish nachos. Not because they don't taste good (they do), but it was such a gigantic serving, that I couldn't finish it all. Lesson learned. We came here on a Wednesday evening and found plenty of room to be seated and order our dinner. There were three of us and the couple shared a big rubben sandwich with mashed for a side and extra potato wedges and the single person ordered a beef quesadilla. The drinks showed up appropriately and the meal was quickly delivered soon after. This is my second review. I just noticed that I gave McBob's a 3 star rating 5 years ago and that needed to be rectified immediately. Mcbobs is a neighborhood treasure! It is an eclectic kind of neighborhood pub and grill that you walk in and feel like you are in a small town. You feel like you are among friends. Last time we went, we got to sit by the fireplace, which is always lovely. Everyone knows mcbobs corned beef slaps! Apparently my tastebuds needed refinement from the last time I reviewed this local gem, and for that I beg forgiveness! We also got their fish fry last time we were in and I was impressed at the variety of fish options offered. The fish fry was delicious, definitely recommend. I came back home After years of being away and it was a few restaurants I know I missed and EVERYWHERE I have been doesn't have corned beef that can even touch what mcbobs offer. I was being picky and afraid to try rye bread so I did light rye. (They only offer rye for the sandwich) but I ready was beyond pleased . I had to have my friend try the corned beef cause she never had it before. She really loved it and would like to have her own sandwich. She did however love her burger and said was the best burger she has had in a lonnnng time. We placed the order at the restaurant and it was about a 20 min wait but it was quiet and plenty of things to drink while we waited. Yesterday I ordered take out from McBob's. I ordered 2 Boils, 1 Farmers and a Rueben. the Rueben was good. However the corn beef in the dinners was in chunks and only 1 chunk between the 3 meals was NOT fatty. it was so fatty that it was hard to find edible corned beef. The total for the meals with automatic 18% gratuity was about 94.00 and less than 1/4 of the meat was edible. I was disappointed because it was my first time there and had heard only good things. it was very busy because of St Pat's day and I understand that, but the service was fine and everyone was friendly when I picked up the order, just the quality of the corned beef was not acceptable. McBob's serves ample portions of some seriously amazing pub grub. They're really something special. I'm writing this during COVID, so haven't dined in McBob's in a while but have done takeout (call and then go pick up). They'll get your order ready quickly for you to pick up piping hot. They're reuben is out-of-this-world. I've also had their Irish Meatloaf (stuffed with corn beef and bacon and topped with swiss? Stop! So amazing!). One of my favorite orders is their Jake V sandwich, which is turkey breast, bacon, avocado, sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on toasted rye. Seriously, what's not to love? They never skimp on the sandwich toppings (especially the protein) and everything is always cooked fresh and fab. Get to it (seriously, my stomach is rumbling just thinking about it)! read more

This is my favorite place in Milwaukee for a rueben sandwich! The bar is small and can get crowded especially around st pattys day but it's got it's own small bar charm. All the decoration is Ireland focused and they keep Irish beers like smithwicks available. I wouldn't go here in a hurry because the service is not super fast but the food is worth it. Dined there with partner and when we walked in and waited at the Hostess stand, I felt I wasn't recognized as someone who was looking for a table. The bartender only addressed my partner. When the server came she seemed to not want to talk to me. The food finally came (not a problem with the food coming out so late) and it was not hot, you could tell it sat for awhile before coming to our table. No follow up after a couple of bites, no refill on soda. And when the bill arrived the gratuity was already added to the the bill for a party of 2. Now if that is what you do, cool. But then don't have the receipt showing suggested gratuity. So, with that, I will be very hesitant for a return visit. read more
